We stayed here last night. We had afternoon tea payed to have meal in evening and spent well over £100 and food drinks and had breakfast in with deal. Afternoon tea was lovely. Evening meal well wished we when out as we had 3 courses and it was all disgusting me or my partner could not eat any of it. As we already paid for breakfast we was hoping that would be better but we got eggs that was not even cooked very disappointing? When I booked upgrade on room as it was my partners birthday well the room was very dated and run down. Bed was not comfortable at all. Overall beautiful hotel just needs updating 😌 and as for all the stuff was amazing could not do more for us was amazing and very lovely and helpful. Yes we would stay again. But definitely won't be eating at hotel as food is not good at all. That

Such a beautiful hotel! First time being here this weekend and I'm over impressed! the decor makes me feel all posh to be honest! it certainly deserves atleast another star for sure! the room was cheap and affordable for the price of the evening and luckily our room had a perfect view of Cardiff Castle! very impressed and certainly will be using this one again for future visits! 🥰

We picked this place due to it’s acceptance of dogs as in Cardiff there aren’t that many Hotels that accept dogs and to be honest we wouldn’t normally stay at a 3 star hotel but it did exceed my expectations we were in the bell tower suite and it was quite luxurious to be allowing dogs. The angel hotel isn’t the best hotel to pick in Cardiff but it is right in the centre and acceptably luxurious so yes 5 stars from me.

Stayed at the Angel Hotel over Easter. The Hotel is right opposite the Castle and also the Rugby Stadium. The room that I had was nice and spacious. In the room there was this safe, but for some weird reason the Guests are not ALLOWED to use them. The question has to be asked, but what is the point of having a room safe if you are not allowed to use them. The Hotel do not serve Sandwiches/snacks in the bar. I felt found all the staff that I met were all so friendly and helpful. When I say that I am of course including all of the boys and girls that we do not see without whom the Hotel would not run so smoothly. I am not sure if I will be staying at the Angel Hotel again.

Staff are lovely & friendly. Eager to help. Room is another matter! Our room sits on a slope. We asked for another room but only a twin room was available. We've managed to see other rooms around ours & they look nice. Seems our room is the only one in this condition. Must admit it has spoiled our stay.

Lovely room although on closer inspection there were a few flaws . A few stains on mirror, bath, walls and furniture. Headboards were resting against the bed not attached . Hardly any plug sockets and an ancient hairdryer which was melted ..so did expect more paying over £450 .. In saying that. ..beds were comfy , it wasn't too noisy being on a busy street at all. Staff were brilliant . Ordered room service.. the only choice was pizza .. which came after about 20 mins , freshly cooked and piping hot and was delicious. The foyer and entrance are stunning also .

It's a shame really, The Angel hotel is a beautiful building but the room I was in was quite shabby and tired looking. In desperate need of a new double glazed window, as our room faced Westgate Street it was very noisy. The food on offer that night was very poor, with no room service. As I'd paid £264 for one night, I didn't think it was Ideal. The staff checking in were very pleasant tho.

The location of this hotel is top notch. Short of that it's a mediocre hotel that's old and shows it. Our room had a pretty large noticable slant throughout and it felt like sleeping on a hill. Check in and out was easy. Location was great, right across the street from Cardiff Castle and beside the Rugby stadium. Close to the bar scene. If you only care about location this is the place.

My bathroom door had no lock, toilet situated badly under the wash basin. Breakfast OK evening meal edible but not good. On coach trip would not recommend.

Went here for Christmas Day lunch as a family of 8. The atmosphere was flat and felt a bit like a canteen where people were leaving and entering throughout the dinner. The food was disappointing and felt more like freezer offering from Iceland rather than restaurant food. The gravy was like water and the vegetables were hard. I wouldn’t recommend for dinner, especially for Christmas Day.

Great hotel, great location, proper victorian building with big rooms. Squeaky toilet door and not enough light around the mirror in our room. Also no bin in the bathroom. Staff helpful and friendly, breakfast great! Overall a fab overnight stay!

Needs updating for sure but it's clean, bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water, the location is so convenient to everything and the staff are amazing. Good selection at breakfast altho the mushrooms were terrible, there you go, can't have everything. Try to get a room on 3rd floor overlooking Castle if you can, quieter up there and there are two lifts. We had 301 which is huge with 4 windows and a settee There was no problem parking, we arrived about 4pm. Don't expect luxury, you get what you pay for but for all the above it's great.

Rooms are old and they are due to be renovated. The hotel is beautiful and I cannot wait to see this after renovations have been completed. Had a lovely room (larger than I was expecting) on the main road opposite Cardiff castle. It was so much quieter than expected. I thought I was in for a sleepless night, but was nicely surprised. Stay 2 nights over a busy weekend and had a great sleep. .

We felt a bit let down by our stay here. The initial wow of the room eventually dissipated as we realised it wasn’t as good as we thought. The bed was comfortable and a decent size and there was plenty of space in the suite that we had. Location was perfect for attending a concert at the Principality. That was about it for the positives. On the negative side we found the room to be too warm and we were unable to cool it off with either the aircon or by opening the windows. The lighting was poor with not many ceiling lights, this made the bathroom very dark, especially by the bath/shower. Some of the light switches did nothing and in the living room area the lamp couldn’t be turned on independently to the ceiling lights. There were loads of sockets and spurs on the wall where things have been removed but the new items wired differently, this took away the finish of the room. On the electrics the PAT testing labels all showed very old dates so I would worry about the safety of appliances. The final and worst part was that the shower wasn’t working due to a faulty shower hose. We mentioned this when checking out but we’re just fobbed off with the usual “you should have told us so we could have found a room for you to shower in” we wouldn’t have wanted to go to a different room to shower and would have ended up being late for our train if we did this. There was no real apology for this.

Lovely place to stay at great value, the staff were very friendly. We had a suite room which was very spacious but there was no view to speak of. The bathroom was a decent size.

We booked for 1 night which suited us for the location. Ample parking at an acceptable price as its so close . Ideal re luggage. Welcoming staff with a happy environment. They looked after our luggage as we arrived early. Central location near the Castle. Excellent rooms and a very tasty breakfast. Can highly recommend a stay here. The location is handy for buses and taxis also food shops near by

We stayed at the Angel Hotel for a concert at Principality Stadium and could not have had a more positive experience! It was so convenient to take the train into Cardiff Central and have the hotel be a 10 minute walk past the stadium. We had accidentally booked the wrong room, and both Joey at the front desk and the hotel manager were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to find us a different room in the fully booked hotel. We left the hotel and were able to find an easy meal before the concert. There are lots of great options in the area! After the show ended, we were able to walk right down the road and must have been back in our room within 10 minutes of the last applause. Thank you so much Angel Hotel for the easy and enjoyable experience!

I have stayed in this hotel a couple of times and like it, mainly because I like characterful hotels. It is easy to point to the aging hotel infrastructure and indeed this is a problem for many older hotels. However, it is easily within walking distance of the main railway station and some great bars, cocktail lounges and restaurants. The staff are extraordinarily friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I will stay again.

Great location, walk distance both from trainstation and City center. The room had a bad smell and no AC. During summer it was difficult to say in the room due to the warm temperature. The breakfast is not bad but there arent most to choose from. Staff is sympathetic. Check in and check out are easy and Quick.

Lovely old hôtel. The room was clean and large and bed was very comfortable. Our room looked out onto a street but the secondary double glazing kept traffic noise out. Bar prices reasonable for a city. Loved it.

The hotel itself is a beautiful building, with its location being extremely central with the town centre being just a 5 min walk away. The hotel has an outdoor car park 1 min away costing £15/day and they also allow pets for an additional £15. Reception also have a jar of treats for dogs which is a cute touch! The service was great overall however the rooms are in desperate need of TLC. Chipped sinks, bath with shower curtain, mould on the tiles in the bath etc., I wouldn’t say it’s the cleanest hotel either. The bed was also quite small for a double. I probably wouldn’t stay here again personally but if you’re looking for a one-night central hotel, it does the trick!

Could do with some updating and a basic addition such as a full length mirror but lovely staff (Joey was excellent), ideal location and breakfast buffet was always fresh and tasty. Would definitely stay again!

Lovely stay here in a spacious room. Breakfast was delicious, and drinks were served fast at the bar. Everyone working here was very friendly and the room was perfectly clean. It’s a beautiful hotel, very grand

My daughter and I had a twin room. It was spacious and considering it us in the centre of Cardiff the room was very quiet. The staff were amazing. We got to the hotel early as we were going to a show and our room was ready. Also, we were able to leave our suitcases behind reception after we checked out so we could go for breakfast and shopping.

I loved this hotel. Stayed for work purposes but was impressed by the features and old style of the hotel. Yes the rooms are a bit faded but mine was spotlessly clean and the staff are really friendly - they really made this hotel complete. The food was good both in the evening and for breakfast and the hotel had soul which is more than some of the other hotels in the area. Good location and great view of the castle etc.

Booked a standard room and had a discounted rate on Expedia. Paid £90 for a double room inc breakfast for 2 (plus £15 for parking). Room was basic. Bed was a small double. Heating was on high which proved problematic for us as the room was very small. We had to open the window but as it was a road side bedroom it was a bit noisy. We didn't flag it up with reception as we were late to check in and just wanted to get to bed. We tried to adjust the radiator but the thermostat didnt work. Rooms were priced high across Cardiff on the night we stayed and was lucky to get a room for less than £100. When we checked in the hotel was full so assume this type of room is the cheapest or the last to sell. Had we paid more for the hotel I wouldn't have been too pleased. The hotel overall was good. Breakfast had a great selection of food. Service we received from the staff was good.

We stayed at this hotel from 4th Dec till 8th Dec 2023. All the staff were nice and very friendly, we felt very welcomed. The room was spacious, and the restaurant and bar were well managed. My partner loved the carpet (it was purple). The location, which was no fault of their own was centered at the heart of Cardiff, in the centre of the capital City, which can go either way. However, made everything we wanted to do for this stay within walking distance.

Had an overnight stay in the hotel. Great location in the city centre, staff were all great and polite. Bed was really comfortable. Unfortunately the hotel looks very tired, and could do with an upgrade.

The room we were in was clean, beds comfortable so happy with that. However, the bartender over priced £3.50 for drinks and when asked about it he just said 'sorry about that' and walked off!! And the food... was simply inedible. It was disgusting to put it mildly. I paid for all inclusive and couldn't eat the food it was vile. The free house wine tasted like battery acid... I feel I've been ripped off I spent 140 for the night for 2 people all inclusive and didn't really benefit from any perks at all. Eating awful, undercooked food and drinking battery acid are certainly not perks. I will certainly NOT be back at the Angel Hotel. My advice? Avoid!!

Very lovely place to stay, we were looked after well, nothing too small to do Thank you all 😁 One thing I would mention is that pedestrian right of way now in place. Don't use Google maps as it's out of date now.

Great hotel right near the centre of Cardiff, about 5 minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants. Had to make a change to the book last minute through booking.com, when we arrived they had not seen the change meaning the room was too small but they changed it to a family room for free. Amazing facilities, friendly helpful staff, definitely stay there again.

Great location, only a couple of minutes from Cardiff Castle and the northern side of the Main Street, plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants very close. Less than 10 minute walk from the station. Room was large and clean, basic amenities and comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Clear signs and approaches ensure social distancing. Car park available. Highly recommend

We went to wales for a weekend trip. The location of the hotel was amazing, taking advantage of day and night life of cardiff. `The staff are lovely & friendly. Eager to help, however the room was a total let down. For how much we paid we should have got atleast a slightly better quality living arrangement but, that was not the case. There was a damp spot on the carpet that made the room smell damp. The bed was on a slant, 'we did inform the reception but no one could do anything, the room overall was out dated, dust settling everywhere and in need of a good clean. The only thing good about it was the size. I must admit it did spoil the stay, dont think I will be usuing it in the future. I should also mention that there was no parking available to us as the small carpark they had was full, also no alternative arrangements available so spent 1 hour looking for parking and also spending extortionate amount for parking as a result.

This hotel is steeped in history and unfortunately the decor reflects this. We did enjoy a very tasty three course meal but the servers let the experience down somewhat by ignoring diners and chatting amongst themselves. Our server had little to no knowledge of what was on the wine list too. All staff had masks on and hand sanitizer was available everywhere. A little more training and a lick of paint would make all the difference.

First impressions count. Looks lovely from the outside. Reception very nice friendly and large area. The grand stair case through the Reception doors. But then you get Into 1 of the smallest lifts I've ever seen. Then to be presented with all icon describe as a mens sports changing room. I walk down the corridor to my room to see boots trainers hockey sticks and it stinks. My room has a cracked window and is covered in mould, the view is well I'm lost for words. Just look at the photos. The kettle is under the TV? Is that even safe. The wall here are very thin so you can hear next doors conversation. The parking for the hotel is £15 a day.

Convenient location for city centre and Stadium, however the hotel is tired and needs some love and care. The rooms were insanely hot-we all complained to reception and some were given fans for their rooms. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the coffee was good. Car park was hit and miss so make alternative arrangements, if possible.

This is a beautiful building and our room was lovely and spacious and well furnished. The hotel is situated directly opposite the castle, so couldn't be better for a little sight seeing the next day! The only down side is that the lounge and bar areas are a little on the small side but are very well presented none the less.

  • 3/5 Gareth J. 1 year ago on Google
You really do pay for the name and location, my room was discounted because of a work event, but wasn't worth the price, very dated decor and the bed wasn't exactly comfortable, the fact your are right opposite the stadiums mean you are paying a ridiculous amount for a very average room, your better off staying in a travel lodge or premier Inn really. Staff are lovely though, and location just is great, close to the stadiums but also not far from Cardiff Central.

Stayed here on the first night of a two week road trip. It was a very hot day and we had had a long journey so the air con was very welcome. Central location, close to everything..we parked across the road in the stadium car park as didn't want to get to hotel car park and find it full. Room was nice and good size, staff were friendly and the breakfast the next morning was very good. We would stay again if visiting Cardiff

This is a pretty old hotel right smack bang in the middle of Cardiff. It's very close to a lot of places from the Principality Stadium and the Brewdog bar (which has very nice selection of Ales and fantastic burgers). The hotel has a lot of character to it, with a really old style. The main lobby and main stairs area are honestly pretty stunning. My friend and I were staying here as we were going to a gig at the nearby stadium. After the gig we went for a night out and hit a few places for a drink then staggered for ~5 minutes back to the hotel - it's location is great. Went straight to the bar and the barman gave us pints of water to take back to our room, so that was nice. The hotel is pretty old so there are some cracks in the walls, pillars etc. We weren't fazed by the damaged old building because we were only sleeping there, which was absolutely fine. The beds were fine also, with adequate covers/sheets.

We came to the hotel for a murder mystery evening. The food was out of this world. The show was brilliant with amazing actors. Our room was clean with enough space, beds are very comfortable. Would recommend this hotel and the event.

If Cardiff could choose one hotel to represent all of the good things of the city, this should be it. Well beyond being in the best possible location, the historic charm and details make staying here an experience. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The manager on staff went well above her duties to help my wife and I with a nice quiet space for work while organizing a special event for other guests. Cool, calm, and collected, she deserves a raise! Love this city and when we come back will be looking nowhere else to book. They don't just treat you well, they treat you like family, CHEERS! 💙✌

A very nice hotel just opposite Cardiff Castle and on the edge of the shopping centre. Couldn't be better placed for shops, restaurants and bars. Excellent variety at buffet style breakfast. Room good but ours let down by having vent ducts terminating outside window and annoyingly squeaky floor to bathroom.

  • 5/5 Julia W. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel is lovely. Its right opposite the Castle in the centre of town and very reasonably priced. The room had a very comfy bed, air con, good hospitality tray, lovely smelling shampoo and soap and a massive towel!

  • 3/5 Ian P. 1 year ago on Google
old fashioned hotel in need of some TLC in rooms. However, comfortable and surprisingly quiet, even looking over main road. Breakfast is one of the better in Cardiff. overall, bit pricey for 3* hotel.

The Angel hotel sits in the city centre of Cardiff, so everything you need is less than 10 minutes walk away. making it a very convenient place to stay. the decor inside the lobby is very elegant and eye opening, it gives the place a very grand feeling. The rooms were well presented and had all the usual facilities, Tea/Coffee, TV etc. And the room was clean. Service was excellent in the restaurant in the morning, and the quality of the breakfast was very good, and tasted wonderful. Very good place to stay in Cardiff.

With the help of the Welsh government, I was fortunate to stay at the Angel Hotel. The hotel is clean and tidy, the location is unique, the staff is just like the name of the hotel, kind and amiable. Thanks to all the staff of the hotel, you brought us a homely feeling. Strong recommend!

This is very good for a three star city-centre hotel with its own car park. It proved ideal to leave the car and walk to all the things we wanted see though there are plenty of buses or taxis or city-bikes if you want to go further afield. We opted for the dinner, bed & breakfast booking and standard of food was excellent throughout though there are plenty of other venues if you want to be more adventurous. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the room and facilities were spotless. Most of the windows are single-glazed so the management do point out that bedrooms can be pretty noisy overnight, so they provide free earplugs! We slept like logs on the comfy beds so our stay here was very enjoyable.

The Good: Location, value (we paid £39 pp for a family room of four with breakfast) one of the beds was comfy (others not so), clean linen, spacious family room. The Bad: On arrival the kettle was disgusting with old sugar papers and lots of orange stuff coming out when filled (always rinse your room kettle!!!), lumpy pillows, very tired room and general public areas. The Angel I have known for over 30 years, and she is a Grande Dame, but one now who should be retired. Too much money needs spending on her. Staff mixed - some amazing and others not so. View from room 224 was abysmal with the neighbouring room (non guest I imagine) with old food on plates visible in the window. Frost the glass rather than see the bones of the hotel (pipes and generally ugly). In the evening we used the stairs to go out and there were several young children on the mid landing with small toys everywhere. We have to pick our way over and through them. Not safe. I guess from one other encounter along with this one that the hotel is hosting refugees which is wonderful, but care needs to be taken when mixing long term residents with regular guests regarding safety and fire regs.
