I have to say what a lovely meal we had here. We were on our way to an event in Cardiff and stopped in with no booking. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our meals vet hot, tasty and very good value for money HOWEVER today I received a parking fine for "unauthorised use of the car park". I didn't see any signage only the one by the door saying cars left at own risk. I will be fighting it.

This Toby restaurant is newly renovated and looks really fresh and inviting. The carvery was delicious. The Chef came to serve us as soon as we arrived at the counter and was very friendly. The food was cooked to perfection all the serving bowls were full so a good variety of food available. Loved the beef dripping roast potatoes they were amazing. The Waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. Well worth a visit.

Our waiter was wonderful. Asian gent (apologies, I didn’t spot his name). He was attentive and funny, we loved him. Food was lush, no queue. And the availability of a gluten-free gravy (veggie option) is awesome. The only thing I could say needed improvement was minor, and that was that the gravies and sauces ran out and took a while to be refilled. Other than that, it was brill.

Super busy, but the queue moved fine. All the staff were working very hard, nobody was idle. The first server who took our order forgot our drinks, but we asked another server who brought them super quick. The first server had also charged us for 3 carveries instead of 2, but the second server apologised and fixed that too. The food was great, plentiful, hot and tasty. However, the vegan meatballs we ordered were really quite awful. They were mushy, the sauce was sour, and they look very unappealing, we tried one but could not eat them. The second server took one of the orders off our bill for us without us having to ask. Really impressed overall with the service and food

So myself, my husband and my toddler went to Toby in Whitchurch and honestly it was a total car crash. They were missing lots of items due to not having them in stock, the fried eggs were horrendous but when we arrived there were about 3 eggs in the pot so I had to ask for more to be cooked (surely the chef stood behind the food should have been on top of this considering he was stood there twiddling his fingers) I had to ask for more mushrooms and white bread. I would never go back as it was a true let down! I had also stopped going to this Toby for carvery a long time ago to the meat being 90% fat and the food not being up to scratch. Though maybe the breakfast would have been better but how wrong I was!

All I can say is I will not be eating there again! I was so disappointed as i was the person who suggested we eat there. The food was dry or waterlogged, the roast potatoes looked and tasted as if they were boiled and then put in oven for about 5 minutes just to add a bit of colour! I took my grandson there and paid for him to have a 2 course meal, we didn't stick around for dessert, so I never had the full value and no refund offered! The only positive were the staff were pleasant

The food was awful, it was cold, the beef was oozing blood and full of fat that it was inedible, the waitress was amazing and took the food away to re heat it, and changed the meat to Turkey, but sadly it had spoilt what was a birthday Sunday lunch. My other daughter had recommended we eat with yourselves, but it was so bad would not return, I feel it was £40.00 wasted. I could not fault the waitress who was lovely and tried her best

Stunning carvery, no queue & open till late! We had a late-in-the-day booking, 19;30. No queue when waiting for food, the food was great considering the length of time in which it was sat on the hot plates. Friendly staff. My go to!

Food is always high quality. Macaroni goes very hard on edges unfortunately. Service is not so good. Waiting ages to be seated, table was covered with plates and glasses. Had to ask bar staff to clear table. Then had to ask again to wipe it. Girl sprayed cleaner over table when we had drinks in hand and staff should be trained to spray the cloth not the table. Bar staff took forever serving each customer then wander off while you’re stood waiting, then return asking who’s next when we were the only ones standing at bar when they walked off. Bit disappointing. In short, great food, service needs work.

Our first visit here and were more than pleased with our welcome. The staff were excellent, very polite and helpful. Considering the fact it was a very busy time we were still more than happy with the service. The food was very tasty, nicely cooked and a brilliant choice. We will definitely go back.

We arrived at the Toby Cavery, Llanishen on 2/1/24 around 18:15. We pre-booked our t 21will still have the festive menu on 2/1/24. When we arrived the staff told us that the beef (Cavery)is finished.we had a drink and then we went to have the main meal around 7pm. The chef advised us that they have got only Turkey left. We received a pathetic and poor service. They should reserve the food for pre-booked people. They should not have told us that they haven’t got the Cavery except Turkey. Most of us had just Turkey Cavery. Also just wanted to specify that we asked for water for drinking and the staff said they had not enough glasses for water. They said that they could provide us glasses from the pub. So we ourselves have to get the water and glasses from the bar and served the water. Is this service you provide to the customers? I never ever had such experience from any of the pubs or restaurants such treatment; Always provided drinking water. Here in Toby Cavery we had to serve the water to our group. I had Cavery from other places in Cardiff and Caerphilly. But this is the first time I had food from the Toby Cavery in Llanishen and it was a very bad experience. It was a very poor service and management. I will not come again here and I will not recommend to anyone. This is not the problem of staff there but this is a management issue. I am the group leader and my colleagues tried your food on 21/12/23 and they were very impressed. This is the reason we booked our tables in Toby Cavery in Llanishen, Cardiff. After all this happened they didn’t give us any discount apart from the BlueLightCard discount. They said they cannot give us anymore discount as they have already given the discount and their system won’t allow. Thank you Toby Cavery for your nice new year gift. Never expected this.

Went here today with my boyfriend and it was last minute arrangement for early dinner. Its the queen's jubilee and the place and staff really we re in the spirit. No issues parking or getting a table. Staff really chatty and helpful. The Chef was very welcoming and the carvery looked fresh and well kept and replenished. We were not rushed and our visit exceeded expectations 100 percent. Been a while since I d been here and as always an awesome experience.well worth the money and an A++ rating 😀 we ll be back! THANK YOU 😊

Everything was fantastic about our visit. Servers were all brilliant, very polite and on the ball. Food was really nice, we went for the carvery. The only little issue we had was when the gravy bowls were empty however this was resolved fairly quickly.

The staff were great all immensely friendly and helpful. Our table was ready for us on arrival. Our server was attentive although seemed rushed off his feet. The food was good. Although my began daughter had issues with her meal. It took a long time to come even though we ordered it way before we went up for our carvery. Then there was no began gravy. This came out 15 mins after she had plated up her food which was now cold and the gravy was grainy. The staff were great about it when I discussed the issue and removed her food from our bill. When paying the cracker treat vouchers did not work and the final bill was higher than it should've been because we ordered desserts based on them being a pound and this was not calculated at the end of the meal correctly due to the voucher not scanning.

Booked Christmas day for 7. Table wasn't ready but that wasn't an issue for us, we were happy to wait in the bar. However, even though everything was pre booked we didn't get starters for a further 20mins after sitting down then 2 were missing and had to be asked for. Carvery as usual is beautiful and plenty of it. Desserts were lovely. Overall all guests enjoyed the meal. We didn't have any crackers on our table and as most tables didn't appear to have any, we didn't query this but found out later that we just didn't get given any. This was quite disappointing.

My mum has been a regular at this Toby Carvery visiting at least 8 times over the past 4/5 months. She has just received a 50 pounds fine for parking in the car park......even though all other times she 'remembered' to add the registration details. When she questioned it she received no support to remove the fine, eve though she has an email with her reservation. Great way to lose a loyal client!

Recently stayed at the Hotel behind the pub, who recommended we try the Toby where we could book in a breakfast for the following morning. We arrived to an empty pub at just after 9.15pm to be told we could book breakfast, but they weren't doing it the following morning as they weren't going to open until 11.30am, but we could book any other day (we were only staying overnight!), we ordered drinks (a coffee plus other drinks, to be also frowned at and told the coffee machine gets switched off at 9.30pm so we could only have one), and sat down, staff were spraying and wiping tables all around us (sometimes twice to make a point that they wanted us out). The last orders bell rang at 10pm. Staff were not friendly nor welcoming and it was made very clear we were not welcome. Not the best end to a wonderful day in Cardiff!

Had a lovely lunch at the Toby Carvery Whitchurch. Our server Charley was very helpful with finding us a good seat, going through our dietary requirements (gluten free and dairy free available) and recommendations for puddings/drinks. Food was lovely, hot and fresh. Clean and tidy dining room and toilets. Lots of parking. And we benefited from the Meerkat Meals promotion. Thank you everyone at Whitchurch Toby! 725

We came on a Tuesday evening to enjoy a family meal. Service by Charley was excellent. She was very attentive and had a good chat with us. We had 2 bowls of pigs in blankets (the deal is always worth it!). Food quality of the meal was fabulous. The beef was gorgeously tender and flavoursome. The turkey was fresh and moist. Mike our server was very kind and explained that he was going to get fresh meat so he didn’t like he was just walking off! Puddings were of a high standard. We had profiteroles, crumble and the honeycomb sundae. Would definitely recommend all of them. Lovely experience, thank you Toby Carvery Whitchurch!

Friendly staff - lovely table service by Della: very efficient, friendly and polite. Food was excellent - we had carveries, the meat was just melt in the mouth with a fantastic selection of veg. Kitchen staff had a sense of humour, worked diligently with due care, speed and great consideration paid to customers and keeping everything clean. Handed a raffle ticket number at the end (which was a nice touch). My Raffle Ticket Number: 371

The website time slots for takeaways are incorrect, the staff have known people turn up for takeaways over an hour earlier than the food is ready as a result of this. Yet nobody there cared enough to report it to IT. The manager is quite lazy and uncaring to these type of situations. I have been stood at the entrance for 15minutes unattended while the manager has sat in view and not even bothered to do anything about it to the point I've walked around to find staff myself. Its shocking how the takeaways and some dining customers are treated and its a shame as the food is lovely and the waitresses are friendly when service. Clearly a serious management problem. I was offered compensation in the form of a gift card with less value than I spent on a meal I didn't receive due to such poor management.

I had the Turkey Carvery and as always the food is delicious and the best value for money for a Carvery in Cardiff that I have come across. We were served by Lewis who was so polite and friendly, he wanted to make sure that we were happy with our meal and, if there was anything else that we wanted. His attention to his customers was Perfect, I wish all places that I ate at had such a courteous, friendly, polite and professional waiter as Lewis, thank you ! Review left by AA 552657 (208)

Service was great, from booking a table online right through to leaving again!!! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful - it's always nice to have a little chat with someone when you can! The food was fantastic as always. Very clean, super atmosphere and the decor made us feel comfortable too. Highly recommended 👌🏼.

The server was awful, he seemed untrained and greatly lacking in basic customer service skills. Upon taking our starters order he didn’t ask about main meals even though we made it clear one person in the party would be eating from the menu as opposed to the carvery. After a 30+ minute wait for starters he then took the main order. 3 of us went up for carvery whilst the other awaited their order of a y pudding wrap. We waited and waited. We finally asked him where the meal was and he said he’d come back. By the time he returned to tell us it would be another 20 minutes (over 50 minute wait) the rest of the party had eaten their main meal. As an alternative this person didn’t have a meal. Considering the rest of is had had a starter as part of the 3 courses, this individual had eaten nothing. Instead she ate just a dessert. This was supposed to be an enjoyable meal with friends, following the death of my Dad. Instead we had to complain and one of the party went to McDonalds instead. Upon requesting the manager she explained that the wraps take 20-30 minutes and we should have been told this. Clearly we were not advised and based on the timescale set upon questioning it was clear he hadn’t ordered it. The one member of the party was given a free dessert and we were given a discount but in all honesty the evening was ruined. The manager did show she cared about what had happened ~ its a pity this didn’t follow through on everything else. Very disappointing.

Great food, great venue and a great location, the staff were brilliant. Really happy with my Carvery meal and seasonal crumble with custard.

We had breakfast and dinner at this place over the weekend. The dinner (carvery) was very reasonably priced, and the food was great British comfort food. the wait staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also good, although the buffet didn't include orange juice, which would have made it a 5 star place. Perfect spot for families, groups and couples looking for great British roast dinner.

Vikki was a really lovely host. She was really kind and friendly. It was my first time at Toby Carvery, and the food was definitely worth the price we paid. Just wanted to thank Vikki for taking our Christmas pictures and for being such an attentive host! [7]

Great carvery selection. Plenty of Veg varieties provided lots of choice. None of the veg was over cooked or sloppy. Vegan pie was nice; but limited vegan choice on the menu, although veg made up for that. Plum and apple crumble desert was exceptional. Great value for money.

I wasn’t expecting much but, Toby carvery have really blown me away with their food, service and overall vibes were elite to say the least… my favourite waiting staff has to be Vikki. She was so kind and patient with us and she was never afraid to explain the small things for a first time goer… she needs a raise

We had a party of 25 booked weeks in advance not that this made any difference even they said that they will reserve for us. When we arrived the young boy told us that unfortunately there were people in the area that was reserved for us, would not normally be a problem but the area that they gave us the 3 tables were not together or close to each other. The server was quite rude and told us to sit down they will come and serve us, 20 minutes went by nobody came. When we asked about service she said, you need to go up and order as 2 of your party already have. Various members of or party and myself use this restaurant quite regularly, not anymore. Your staff need to be retrained in customer service and the food although usually good needs to be improved.

We booked this hotel not having high expectations. However we were pleasantly surprised. The lady on reception was very friendly and helpful. The room was much better than expected. There was even a coffee-pod machine. The bed was very comfortable. On the downside, the access was awkward, especially in the dark. It's tucked behind the Toby Carvery. All in all, though, a pleasant stay. Would definitely use this hotel again.
