Fantastic place, staff helpful, smiling and made the stay amazing. The room was just what we needed and very comfortable. Swimming pool after a busy day was great for relaxing. The food was tasty and prices not too bad. Plenty of tv screens for catching up on daily events around the bar. Plenty of parking and definitely stay again. Thanks to all the staff that made it a home from home. Room 512.

Poor When I complained on the first night that the room was sub standard and dirty it was not cleaned for us just told us that there had been a leak No offer of another room There were available rooms The queues for evening food were long and waited an hour for it to arrive on first night Slightly better on second evening Lift was out of order for the 3 days we were there Pool was good but only free if you book direct same for the gym Location suited us for Cardiff Checked whether complaint had been logged Not sure it had Lady asked if I wanted the manager to contact when complaint had been checked and a week later no contact Also told that as I had booked through a third party she couldn't do anything

Love staying at this handy location. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and staff are very helpful. The bar and grill is a great place to relax and the food is delicious. A great selection of wines to boot. The location is fabulous, with Whitchurch and Cardiff an easy bus journey where the bus stops just a minute from this hotel. Highly recommended!

It's a great hotel and all, nice and clean rooms, perfect for a night stay and also great services such as a Starbucks on the ground floor, and a pub adjacent to it. There is also an amazing gym along with a nice swimming pool, and even a spa. But when it comes to cost, I'm not too sure. The cost was kinda hefty, but I did get a family room. Don't know if they do cheaper rooms for less people, but if so, they are probably cheaper.

My wife and I are staying at several different hotels every year. We love comparing them all with regards to quality of service, accommodation, facilities et cetera. The Village Hotel was brilliant. All staff were friendly approachable and willing to help. Food was very good and excellent value for money. Pool area was also very nice and good facilities with sauna steam room. We will definitely be staying here again and thought it was much better overall than the Hilton. Special mention to Wendy and Olivia, who facilitated an excellent breakfast on Sunday morning. We also thought that Matt was one of the friendliest barman in South Wales. All-round excellent experience at the Village Hotel.

Amazing on all elements of the experience. Clean and relaxed. Location was just off the motorway so easy to get from place to place during your stay. Food is outstanding with it's different bars and restaurants

I’m confused at how people have rated this as a nice stay: we arrived and left within 30 minutes of arriving. The room was beyond tired and resembled a bad travelodge, the overall appearance of the place was dreadful and I couldn’t wait to leave. Shame really as Portsmouth village is brand new and good. Never ever ever will return to this place avoid at all costs Awful

I went to the village Hotel in Cardiff from beginning to end the whole experience was amazing. The pool had sloping steps to enter the jacuzzi also was in the pool so no climbing in. The pool temperature perfect the changing rooms were warm and had benches to use as I suffer from back problems this is all important to me. We went into the restaurant I am gluten intolerant and was told everything in the menu was available to me which was so brilliant to hear they had separate fryers with sun flower oil and gluten free in everything on the menu. The staff were so friendly polite and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back many times.Thankyou all 🥰

Went in to see if they still did carvery. Couldn't find any parent and child spaces so parked at far end of car park in the hope noone parks next to us. No carvery so got a standard menu, prices were extortionate so decided to eat elsewhere, had a couple of drinks and made our way. Lovely bar setup and staff were great 👍

The rooms are with old scruffy furniture and are a bit dusty. The hotel gym and pool are, unfortunately, open to the public, too busy, the pool is overcrowded, hard to find a space to park. Also, big screen downstairs to watch a game, which means drunk noisy hotel guests at 2 am. And paper-thin walls.

Very helpful and friendly staff . Clean hotel and good facilities. House keeping were happy to help if we needed anything. We booked online then rang to check everything was ok. The young lady (i think her name was Beth?) That we spoke to noticed we'd accidentally booked a twin instead of a double. It was the same price but we wanted a double. I mentioned that we were looking forward to a swim while we were there. She then went on to say that she had upgraded us to a family room. It was totally unexpected but much appreciated. We'd also like to make a special mention of Gayle and Beth from the bar and grill. We saw them every morning at breakfast and they always came over to see how our holiday was going and give us ideas on what we could do.

We have always had pleasant stays at the village hotel.staff friendly, good facilities. Some of the room need alittle refreshing (TV didn't work etc)but overall a great stay Thank you

Check-in we were informed was 15:00 - therefore we arrived at 16:00 and were told we would have to wait somewhere for at least 20-30minutes for our room to be ready! I mean… WHAT?!?!? I won’t be staying with Village Hotels again, as little things like this just shows how the rest of your stay will be (as I unfortunately found out later with their onsite pub/restaurant)!

Great staff great hotel. Quiet and good size rooms. Very comfortable. Only one thing what I was struggling is the light in the room to dark for my liking. Gladly room is equipped with desk lamp. Thank you.

Used hotel and facilities for both pleasure and work. Staff very helpfull and polite. In particular the VWork centre. Had a very friendly, smart and extremely professional member of staff discuss the fantastic facilities for meetings and work called Aaron who presented the facilities on hand to me with great enthusiasm was very impressive. Enjoyed my stay overall and have and will be with you in the future.

We were informed that the swimming pool is open till 19.00 pm on Sundays, but we were told to vacate the pool by 18.00pm by one of their staff, and my daughter and son were not happy at all. We wanted a bottle of still water, and the entire Village hotel has no bottle of still water, moreover the reception staff was so kind enough to tell us the way for near by off licence where I can get the bottle of still water. Very poor and pathetic service. If there is below 1 star I will be offering that.

Fantastic hotel with good vibes and clean, modern rooms. Caitlyn on reception was particularly welcoming and, despite a slight issue with one of our rooms, was able to rectify this problem promptly and professionally. Kelly also went above and beyond in her service in the pub and grill, resulting in a great evening meal experience. All the other staff we encountered were equally as friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

Lovely hotel. Very helpful staff. Nice bar area with Sky Sports on multiple screens. Food available in bar. Lovely large swimming pool for guests. Plenty of car parking spaces.

Firstly all the staff were all welcoming, and the food lovely. Just the room was a slight let down. There wasn’t a main light which made it hard to see on a wet dark day with only lamps to use. Booking a “family” room which has the same room size dimensions as a standard double, and a shower, just had an added pull out bed for our little one which made it a squeeze. As a family room you would think there would be at least 3/4 cups for drinking from. But there was only 2 mugs. Would of been good if they had extra glasses to drink water from. However, great location, lovely staff and and breakfast was tasty.

Staff super friendly and clearly working their socks off to make guests feel welcomed and comfortable. Great location close to the motorway and for exploring South Wales and beyond! Only downside is the rooms are a little tired now (chipped furniture, broken fittings and stained carpets) but cant complain on price point. Im guessing it must be due a proper refurb soon rather than an aesthetic makeover. If not the senior management in the company should be taking note.

Comfy and clean room and bathroom. Bed a bit on the hard side, but could be just me. Loved the quality coffee on offer in the room. We attended a wedding there, it was faultless. Much love and thanks to the Scottish lady on reception. She's a proper star, she is!! Nice breakfast too, great choice of breakfast goodies!

If you want a quiet country hotel, this is not it. However, this is a busy and well run establishment. Great staff, good facilities and nice rooms. Just off the M4. Donna at reception was a real Star. Good disabled parking. In fact, lots of parking. Quick note - The postcode is not an exact location, and led us to a small housing estate next door. Food can be a bit basic, but good.

I've been coming to Village hotel since 7 years old and have had the opportunity to bring my own daughter for her 13th birthday. We stayed 2 nights and couldn't be happier. Donna, on reception is a wonderful lady, always so welcoming. It was amazing to introduce my daughter to her, from myself as a young girl with my mum to me and my daughter, Donna makes visiting the village that much much special. I'd also like to thank Sian (waitress in photo) she was so friendly and made my daughters birthday meal flow so easy. which couldn't of been easy as there were 7 of us, so thank you again. looking forward to returning in January 2024. The rooms, food, pool and hospitality is always 5***** and we'll worth the money.

Brilliant hotel with a much improved menu. Staff are very helpful and can not do enough to please. Lots of upgrades are in progress. Excellent business centre that was being used to its maximum. Very good addition to the hotel.

I recently went here for 5 weeks of training . And I can't honestly praise the staff enough. Mandy, Donna, Katie were just absolutely amazing. The others were amazing too just can't remember names. The Starbucks staff were awesome too. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Top class service... our entire group are going to miss these fantastic group of people and I'll even pop in now and again just to say hi. The village hotel are lucky to have them and I hope they appreciate all their hard work they all do.

Used to love coming to this hotel regularly for a night away for relax etc. Stayed here last night, it was okay but has gone down hill. Long queues at the bar for one. Early close at the bar and early close for rooms service. There used to be a lovely 3 course menu. This has been replaced with burger menu or salad bowls at £16 a go. The food we ordered was nice and cooked well. However, I was disappointed as we expect to have a special meal. Again breakfast used to be of a high standard. I was disappointed again, with not very good scrambled (no other choices) cheap sausages. Certainly not the standard that we have experienced in the past. Overall it was an okay night.. could be alot better though.

We were told at 8 o clock by one of the staff we couldn’t order food as we hadn’t booked a table, bearing in mind we were staying at the hotel and had been sat at a table for over an hour. When we mentioned it to the bar staff they said we could order food. The Lady that told us we couldn’t order food came to our table and said do you want to speak to me. We said no and she was very sarcastic and said if you want food you had better order now as the kitchen closes at 9. I ordered it on the app which was really easy. People were coming in after being out for the evening so have a drink at the bar and they were told the bar is closed. This is 10pm on a Saturday night…we asked the young lady from the bar as she was clearing our table if we could have some milk for tea upstairs in the room she told us to ask at the bar. Her tall colleague was cleaning a table next to us said when she’d gone. She should have got the milk for you, so he went and got it and was very polite and apologetic. We won’t be coming back.

It was okay, but not great. The good, - The pool is lovely, nice pool side facilities (sauna, steam room and hot tub) clean and tidy. - The room was good, nice comfy bed and everything you need in a room. The bathroom could do with a deeper clean. - The hotel is clean and tidy and has free parking if you are staying. - Breakfast coffee was nice, and the juice was fresh and had infused water too. The bad, - The reception area has a strong smell of chlorine. - We had a evening meal in the restaurant, the menu is very limited, it took about 40mins for our burgers to arrive then didn't have all sides, very slow to provide condiments and cutlery. Burger was hard and dry. - Breakfast was limited on quality and items, 🥐 danishes were dry and hard - Lift was out so was a bit of a trek to the room up stairs and down them (although the receptionist offered to take our bags for us) In conclusion, we would stay again, however wouldn't eat evening meal there, as the facilities are lovely, unfortunately catering let's it down.

Room 116 worn out. Vanity damaged, lamps worn, sink cracked, toilet seat warped, window broken, hard beds etc. Really only worth 50 a night ....at most! About time whoever took over this hotel started to maintain it properly if they still expect to command a premium. It used to be -much- better a few years ago, and such a handy location too. They wouldn't last long in business where I live, in tourist-centric central Florida, with worn out rooms like that. Next trip, it'll be the Holiday Inn for me I think.

Our second visit was not a good one. It seems when there's a wedding/party going on, you're subjected to the disco in the room too. I think our room was above the storage room and I was woken at 2am by the noise - sounded like ten pin bowling balls running on tracks for over 10 mins?!? The bar was understaffed massively, not serving cocktails and low on items what with the fuel crisis and co2 shortage. Breakfast was ok. Selection limited. Seemed bizarre hiding the hot drinks machine round by the breakfast counter, that then seemingly turned itself off. I don't think we'll return...😬

Google says this is air conditioned but please note it is not. Rooms are small but nice. TV huge and works. Staff excellent. Hotel very good. Parking easy. Check in automated and easy. Starbucks in reception a bonus. Really liked the mugs they provided for tea and coffee. Are some weird noises at night, rumbling noises no idea what they are.

Stayed for one night in October and we’re disappointed firstly by the lack of menu options but then when it came to going to bed we saw a stain on the bed, thinking it was the sheets, but instead it was a mattress protector covered in period blood and old urine stains!! We maybe wouldn’t have noticed but the sheets were thin enough to see right through. Not only this but the bathrooms hadn’t been properly cleaned, finding pubic hairs behind the door. We’ve stayed in the one in Manchester but we definitely won’t be in Cardiff! Don’t recommend, go to a nice one or an independent hotel instead. (By the way, I’m a housekeeper so I know it should’ve been cleaned)

We actually won our stay here in a competition but will definitely visit again. Staff were great the club room we stayed on was large and well laid out. The restaurant was equally well staffed and the food was great. Didn't have time to visit the gym and spa unfortunately but will next time

We had Sunday lunch here today at 16.30. The four meals came in three instalments, the final meal came as the rest of us were finishing ours. The food staff appeared very busy, but the bar staff quiet and standing around, the venue was virtually empty. The food was not what I expected for 17 pound for a single plate. No one apologised or seemed concerned. We won't be coming back.

We had a weekend away planned for this weekend, sadly both myself and my wife have tested positive for Covid, tried to do the right thing and ring to change the date as to not spread it round the hotel and the staff only to be told they won't change it as the government guid lines state we can still go. As random members of the public we clearly care more about your members of staff and other guests more then you do.

What a fantastic place to stay. I stayed here with a friend while playing golf for several days locally. Staff, great, welcoming and friendly. Room, comfy with everything one needs. Restaurant is modern with a good atmosphere, tasty food, a well stocked bar and if that's not your cup of tea there is an onsite Starbucks. There is an extremely well equipped gym, swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. My perfect day, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room followed by an all inclusive breakfast, a round of golf with some food and drink in the evening. Thank you The Village Cardiff.

The smell in the corridors and the first room we had was horrendous. Smelled like raw sewage! Also, bit of a con in upgrading to a club room. No sky TV, reported this to the manger who came to the room, couldn't get it working and said he would sort it. Never heard from him again! Free parking with club room upgrade sounds good but it's free parking on the weekend anyway. No coffee machine in room either. Can someone from the hotel tell me what the benefit of the club room upgrade is again! The reason I give a 2 star and not a 1 is that the sports bar is great, decently priced drinks, massive screen and bar food was great. staff in the sports bar were really nice. Breakfast was meh. In closing, please sort that smell out. Absolutely ruined our stay!

Fantastic hotel in a very commuter friendly location. Great food and amazing staff. Have stayed here a number of times while traveling with Cardiff Demons Rugby Leage and Wales Rugby League. Always very accommodating to our needs.

I have been coming here for 20+ years for the speedway and sadly I will not be returning! The staff were rude and the hygiene levels are below standard. The rooms were not cleaned at all, the beds were unkempt, the toilet rolls were not restocked, the bins weren’t taken out and we had toe nail clippings that weren’t ours down the side of the bed. When we asked for a high chair at breakfast it was covered in curry so obviously was not cleaned from the night before. I was then handed a spray and blue roll to do it myself. The level of service has dramatically declined and the cleanliness needs to improve drastically.

It was an average stay but I won’t be staying again. Electronic check in system fine but the screens clearly haven’t been cleaned for a while. No explanation as to where the room can be found. The room is very basic for the cost. Damaged furniture and blinds. Main criticism is how dark the room is. Even in daylight it’s so dark. Forget trying to do anything in the evening. The designers have obviously decided to remove any main/ceiling lights and provide lighting for ambience rather than practicality. Both would be better. The cleanliness of the room was also to be questioned. I’m not one to go around trying to find issues but it’s visibly dirty and a basic room turnaround had only been done. I get it might be a tight turnaround but the room needs a deep clean. Floor clearly not been hoovered. Stains all over the carpet. Dust all over the blinds. Empty tissue box in the bathroom. Included toiletries not topped up. Walls paper thin - you can hear everything that’s going on in the room next door! Restaurant is adequate and average service.

I cannot thank the staff at this hotel enough, they made our stay extra special. My family stayed for the weekend for my son's 18th, Mandy made sure everything was amazing for him including balloons, a birthday card and bubbles. The breakfast was simply stunning, a special call out here for Heidi xxx

  • 2/5 Alex S. 1 year ago on Google
The staff where all great. But the menu is very small and not much to offer unless you like a lot of burgers. The pool was good and warm. The cleaning staff did not come into the room all week had to ask 3 times for more loo roll.

We were really looking forward to this trip as the hotel looked nice on the pictures...turned up and there’s scaffolding right round the front of the hotel which wasn’t a great start. The service at the main desk was great, the guy there was super friendly. However, we got to the “Club Room” and it was bland, outdated, scruffy and something in the room smelled (maybe the carpet). Looked in the bathroom and there was a great big hole in the wall next to the toilet! You could still hear the M4 through the small window that looked out over scaffolding. Just really disappointed. The spa facilities were nice, and customer service was good but I wouldn’t stay here again unless I absolutely had too. You get a cleaner, nicer room in the Premier Inn for a lot cheaper.

Meetings and events team are exceptional. Attended Mothers Day ABBA Tribute with welcome cocktail and 3 course lunch. Servers were friendly and attentive. Food was fresh and unusually for big events, piping hot on hot plates. The tribute act was beyond our expectations - such lovely singers with great voices who did a fantastic job of audience participation, especially with children. Photo opportunities and nothing was too much trouble for friendly team. It is clear the head of the team Michael truly cares about customer experience. I highly recommend Village Cardiff events and will be booking future party nights without hesitation.

Excellent amenities for the price compared to other gyms in Cardiff. There’s always a friendly welcome. Dot and Eve work wonders keeping the showers and changing rooms clean and tidy and always have a smile for you on the poolside and nothing is too much trouble for them. I was really pleased to see that Jamie didn’t change when he became team leader, he’s still his friendly self always cheerful and is willing to go above and beyond to help you and always greets you with a big smile. All the poolside staff and team leaders are a great asset to the club

Stayed here for 1 night for an office celebration. A modern self service system for check in. Room was clean and tidy with a large double bed. 3 course meal in the function was good and tasty. Breakfast was also good, although a bit of a slow moving queue for a cooked breakfast. Service was very good. Check out was the same method, not a bad experience overall
