The entrance is free, you only pay for the parking It’s a huge museum that has inside and outdoor areas. Outdoor area is a big old village that is amazing and has restaurants, bakery’s, toilets and seating. Employees are very kind and helpful as well. You would spend a full day here without getting bored.

Fantastic place to visit. Amazing houses, history all located within a beautiful location. The site is large but easy to navigate between houses, with good accessibility. On hand guides at each of the houses are knowledgeable and happy to talk. Two on site restaurants and a tea room, but plenty of green spaces on site with picnic benches so easy to bring a picnic or tailor the trip to suit your budget. A great place for an entire family as has everything for all generations.

Fantastic place to visit with friends or family. Basically you have the main building which houses a gallery and coffee shop, then everything else is dotted about the land, it's a big outdoor museum full of history. They have transported historical buildings from all over Wales and placed them here. The land is vast and exciting to explore. Definitely get there at 10am when it opens to allow yourself time to see everything plus have some time for coffee and food. Parking: it's pay and display, lots of spaces and feels extremely safe. £6 for the day. Some tips Weather : go on a dry sunny day to make the most of your experience. If you don't like rain, wait for a nice day as you'll be outside alot. Food and drinks: there are a couple of places to eat and drink. One is in the main building and the other is near the tannery inside the outdoor area. Both indoors. I didn't eat there but the Coffee wasnt great but the price was high. bring your own if you are a particular about that. There are a few table and benches outside the shop and near the bakery. All in all it's definitely worth visiting and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Some of the cottages are dark inside, don't be startled if a figure looks out from the darkness, it's most likely a staff member.

Amazing place to visit, access is free (donations accepted) so much to look at and do, gives a really good understanding of history and the types of accommodation and housing, house and gardens are impressive with such variety of flora and fauna. Definitely worth a visit. There are lots of activities for children to do, you can book to do high ropes, play parks. Plenty of open area for them to run around in.

It's one of my favourite places to visit. Entrance if free and parking is £ 6.00 for the day. Wonderful restored buildings showing Welsh heritage. Grounds are enchanting and peaceful. There is just so much to see outside. There is an indoor museum too , but always seem to run out of time to visit it. Good selection of refreshments available. I think it offers a great day out for any age group.

Brilliant day out. Large car park. Parking is £6 for the day and the museum is free entry. Lots to see and explore. Great for children. Beautiful grounds and ponds near the castle ..and we saw a Kingfisher 💞 Very educational but also just good fun.

Free entry, £6 parking, food in the restaurant was excellent. A beautiful place to visit and the layout is fantastic, it's like walking around a small town. Staff were lovely, buy some sweets at the sweet shop, some fresh bread at the bakery, wander up to the big house and sit by the beautiful gardens. Perfect day out thank you x

We wish we’d gone a bit earlier because this is a “whole day” experience if you’re truly interested in the history that there is to see here. Absolutely fascinating. All the out buildings and interiors are just wonderful and full of stories and memories. The row of houses where each interior is decorated according to the year it was built is just amazing. We didn’t have time to see the complete gallery section but we will be going back very soon. It’s free to visit which is fabulous. There are various touch pads around so you can donate contactlessly a £5 donation which is actually incredible value for what you’re seeing. The car park is £6 for the whole day. Take a picnic and wear a comfortable pair of shoes and you will have a fabulous day. Everywhere is wheel chair friendly apart from some of the old buildings. The coffee shop is reasonably priced and great to stop at half way around. There is also a traditional type bakery and sweet shop there. I would advise to take cash as well as cards as the bakery is cash only. It smells delicious.

Brilliant place to visit. Free entrance but £6 car park charge. Depending which way you travel, if you go over a train crossing turn immediately left ( right before crossing if from other direction). Don’t bother going into the castle as only 2 rooms are open to view. The day we went it was raining but that didn’t put us off. Lots to see & do. If you like old fashioned sweets I recommend that you go to the shop that sells bread, £1.40 per 100g , limited selection there though compared if you went to the main sweet shop that charged £2 for 100g. Friendly & helpful staff. The galleries were good. I would definitely visit again if in the area

You can't go wrong! free to enter (Donation given if possible for running costs). Lovely cafe which serves decent hot and cold options. Nice coffee served. Decent little park for the little ones. I hadn't been since I was a kid and even though alot has changed in the galleries it still all takes me back. One of the best parts is that dogs are allowed and there are water facilities available for the 4 legged friends and a convenient bus that takes you right into the ground.

This Really is a great day out, free admission too. Mixture of history and nature, with some nice walks thrown into the mix. Plenty of parking available at £6 for all day, a dining hall in the main building and lots of clean toilets around the site. The castle and gardens are really nice, with lots of interesting flowers.

I was there on a bank holiday, and it is lush! Recommended as a fantastic family day out. The main drawback was the dining hall, which had a limited selection of food, was pricey, and did not have food that looked particularly appetizing. It had a mixture of history, gorgeous walks, and a great play area. Dogs are welcome, and admission is free. Please avoid buses 17 and 18, they are the wrong ones to take! The correct bus to take to get back to Cardiff's downtown was number 32.

Only did about a 3rd of it today. Well worth a visit, the gardens are wonderful and full of wildlife. Only downside only 1 of the food halls were open which durring a hot day was not great. However, the next times I visit will take my own picnic and eat alfresco.

This was an absolute surprise, as I saw it online and decided to visit whilst in the area. I did book parking (£6) in advance, and the museum is free to enter!!! I was lucky to go on a bright, warm spring day, which made it even more perfect!!! I would highly recommend visiting, especially if you love history... and walking!!!

It's stunningly beautiful. It is better to plan to spend whole day there. Absolutely free, just pay for a car park in advance to not waste your time there. A vivid immersion into history, a castle with a luxurious park where you can seat enjoying views, and a small museum that add nuances for understanding past eras.

St. Fagan’s is absolutely incredible and if you’re visiting Wales, you must add this to your bucket list. It’s a living, breathing, outdoor history museum, and there’s interesting things for people of all ages. I had a wonderful time chatting with the baker and several of the workers and it was just amazing the amount of history that is all around you here. Be sure to check out the museum exhibits inside as well. Very clean bathrooms, and I love how everything is in welsh and English. I learned lots of words today and it was a history lover’s dream come true.

Gorgeous place! Accommodates for everyone and the map provides a guide, even including wheelchair accessible routes. We spent hours there and didn't even cover the whole park but what we saw was so impressive, we'll definitely be visiting again! £6 car park ticket that needs to be booked in advance, free entry - so worth it!

St Fagans Museum is an absolute gem in Cardiff! My recent visit left me utterly captivated and inspired. This museum beautifully weaves history, culture, and community together into an immersive experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, I was transported back in time. The meticulously reconstructed buildings, each with their unique stories to tell, showcased the rich tapestry of Welsh heritage. Walking through the open-air exhibits felt like strolling through history itself, surrounded by the authenticity of centuries past. St Fagans' serene environment and sprawling green spaces create a tranquil atmosphere, and perfect for leisurely walks. It's a great place for families with children, solo travelers, and anyone interested in exploring the vibrant history of Wales. In conclusion, St Fagans Museum is an exceptional institution that celebrates Welsh heritage with unparalleled dedication and authenticity. If you're in Cardiff, this museum is an absolute must-visit. Prepare to embark on a remarkable journey through time and culture that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for Wales' rich history and traditions. Notes : Entry to Museum is free, Car Parking £6 for a day

only £6 to park for the full day and there is so much to see 1 trip isn't always long enough. I've been so many times and only this time I found the castle and gardens, canal with fountains running through. It's just beautiful. Always enjoy walking through time in the houses as well. there's loads of picnic areas dotted around to sit and eat. Coffee shop and food/snacks to buy if you haven't brought a picnic. The little fair was fun for the kids too with old time gamblers to play with. This is a fab place for a whole day out with as little spending as possible. One of my favourite places to visit in Wales since I was a kid.

This was such a great place to visit! We were really impressed by the village and especially loved the old shops, the prefab and the terraced houses. Loads of facilities on site and good parking. Toilets, shop and so much else to see and do. Definitely a whole day of things to do. The guides were friendly and helpful too.

Fantastic outdoor museum. Very family friendly & free entry, you only have to pay 6£ for parking. The site is quite large and can be done in a few hours. It’s spans dwellings from the Iron Age up through Victorian times. We visited this site 20 years ago and it continues to evolve with new additions. Highly recommend this place. We came with our 18 year old and he enjoyed it as well.

“Today we have been at St Fagans National Museum of History of Wales, which is like a little town that takes you through years of history of the Welsh buildings, gardens and lifestyle. It was so interesting to see how the gardens were set up differently during the years, and it’s adorable that they are cultivating them, so it was amazing! Very nice walks in nature between each little piece of history. If you ever have the chance, go have a look. It’s free! (You only have to pay for parking) 🍀🌲☘️🌼🌱” There where some houses closed due to COVID, but we’ll go back to see the rest at some point 💚

Wonderful museum celebrating the history of Wales. Wide open spaces, historic buildings, gardens, exhibitions and art. There is also a bookable treetop experience (you must pay for this) and a free play parks. Great play for whole family but wear comfortable shoes and make sure you get some cheesy bread rolls from the popty.

This place is excellent. There is so much to see and do plus it is beautifully maintained and clean. There's no way you can see it all in one day so it's somewhere you could go to again and again if you're close. Be aware, while there try there absolute best to be accessible there is a lot of walking involved. I saw a couple of golf buggies around so these might be available to those who need help getting around but I'm not sure. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes. There's lots of places to eat and there all looked good. We went with family and decided to take a picnic, there are plenty of place to set up your own picnic but they are out in the open so if like us you decide to eat at the one moment in the day when it rains!! Be prepared for soggy sandwiches. All in all a great day out for little kids, big kids and adults alike. I would totally go again if I'm ever in South Wales. I can't believe you only need to pay for parking. We popped a donation in on our way out which I recommend you do if you can afford it because it's such a wonderful place that deserves to be looked after.

St Fagans has a variety of props, mansions and gardens that will take you through a time lapse of Welsh culture. It's free as well. You can walk through a time lapse of the Welsh home decade to decade. Go to a traditional sweet shop. Visit Victorian gardens. Visit a solicitors house who served Elizabeth 1st. And my favourite part was looking at the olden rural development which would have housed entire families and their animals. The tour guides will tell you loads about the the props and social history. I was curious and asked about the history and it's curtious to do so. The old school house and court house was was my favourite they were quite spooky.

Beautiful surroundings in which to learn a lot about Welsh history and heritage. Plenty of picnic spots and space. Plenty of room for all, even when busy. No entry fee but there is a £6 parking fee. We'll worth it and easy to spend the whole day or an afternoon. It's especially worth a visit on a sunny day in spring/summer to see all the flowers and gardens in bloom.

It is amazing for being free. The car park is six pounds but there isn't an entry fee. The galleries are spaced out well so you're not on top of one another and they're quite interesting. The houses that have been moved and rebuilt are very cool and beautiful. The lakes nearer the back of the woods are beautiful and so is the house. It is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or not.

Went over to St Fagans whilst I was staying in Cardiff during the Bank Holiday. It is also free admission. There are good bus links from Cardiff city centre to St Fagans so you don't need to bother with the car. The place is really interesting as they have saved and reconstructed a lot of buildings from all over Wales They also have interesting exhibitions inside as well. I expect that I will be going back when I am back in Cardiff to see what new exhibits they have.

Its a nice place to spend with kids. It reminded me of my childhood days which I spent with my grand parents in the village house. There is kids play area and some fun rides as well. The museum is educative. There were many people enjoying that place as a picnic spot. They had their carpet spead on lawns and enjoyed their friends and family time. You can have a leisure day off. The entry to the gardens, museum is absolutely free. You just have to pay for the car parking and display it. There is a shop and restaurant which might interest you.

So much to see. Great displays of social history. Lanes connecting houses like normal country lanes add to the natural feel of the place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful grounds. And you can buy food/visit as well as gifts mementoes of visit from museum. And it's free apart from parking...all day for £6- a bargain.

My friend said this place has good reputation and usually being recommended for Cardiff’s visitor. We finally found the bus from town centre to there (~20-30 min bus journey to St Fagans). We both had no regret and agreed it was one of the highlight location in Cardiff. You must visit there to get some idea of people’s life in the old Wales.

I love this place!!! You can either go to the galleries or go outside where they have a unique open-air exhibition. So, they take buildings that are somehow peculiar or unique to the Welsh culture, and then they reassemble them there at their site. They have events throughout the day. They invite craftspeople to do exhibitions so you can see their work. We saw a clog master, a bread maker master, and a lovespoon master (this one was my favourite by far, the lovespoons were divine!). We didn't have time to see everything because it's a big place and the tour only gave us two hours. Entry is free. They have restaurants and toilets inside. I so very much recommend this!

  • 5/5 Rachel B. 9 months ago on Google
We visited on a Saturday in June - very warm day. I wish we'd realised that so many of the places to buy things from on site were cash only (we had none on us when the kids really needed an icecream to cool off a bit), also wish we'd realised there is a free ATM inside the entrance. Car park is £6 all day. Entrance to museum is free. Spent the whole day there and still didn't see it all. Quite a lot of the houses were shut up which was a shame - but a reason to return. Some of the staff were quiet and sat back unless approached but a few were eager and ready with information or a story as soon as you entered their part of the museum. They had traditional Welsh dancers on the green when we arrived which was lovely and a lovely experience when they asked visitors to join in too. Very well laid out, mostly flat and whilst the houses aren't all accessible if in a wheelchair, just meandering through the grounds is lovely, although vast!

WOW. What a day out this is. So much to see and do, I've selected just a small sample of photos but it's never going to pay it the justice it deserves. It's a great look at the history Wales has to offer and there's something from everywhere in Wales and a lot of history all in one place. From old farm house to modern (80's) terrace houses and a lot more in-between. Take a pack lunch and some drinks and enjoy a day of walking around the real history of Wales.

What a really excellent place to visit. This was my 2nd attempt to visit. Foolishly I didn't check the website before arriving. You need to book and obtain your FREE ticket to get in. Covid rules, not theirs. They were really good about it and suggested other nearby places we could visit, which we did. So. Visited on Wednesday after booking. Greeted by a car park attendant who was very helpful, knew that I had asked for an accessible parking space and advised the best place to park. At the building entrance we were greeted by another helpful chap who advised us what was open/closed etc because of covid and suggested a good route we could take with the wheelchair. We have a cuppa and cake in the cafe, wandered around the various buildings, galleries and woodland at our own pace, had lunch in the cafe which was very good and did more wandering. Left about 5 hrs after arriving having had a stress free time at an excellent venue staffed by excellent, knowlegeable people who were happy to help. 10/10 St Fagans. Thank you so much for making our visit so good. We'll be back again soon.

The grounds were WAY more expansive than we expected!! Very relaxing walk around the museum and the landscaping was beautiful - we visited in September, and a lot of the blooms were purple tones. The village of St. Fagans has several nice pubs to enjoy some pints. I would definitely recommend the ciders, though beware! Most of them are over 6%, so keep an eye on your intoxication level!!!!

I've come here several times and I've witnessed some of the most beautiful archaeological historical artefacts. I absolutely love the Welsh village, the green space and family activities. I'm giving this a 5 star for the improvements made with their community and diversity outreach. Recently, I attended the Black History Month exhibition of local people from Cardiff. Possibly one of the best exhibitions ever!
