A great day out for the family particularly when raining. Our tour guide was great and we learnt so much about currency production! To see all those coins is surreal! We even stamped our own coin. The gallery/museum section was fascinating and larger than expected. There is a cafe there selling hot food but we didn't use it but it smelt lovely!

Wanted to visit here for years and we weren't disappointed. Small tour group with a knowledgeable and funny guide. No photos in the factory but really informative. There was something for adults and children. Large free car park on the side with easy access to the visitor centre which includes a souvenir shop, cafe and toilets. All together we were here 2 hours, 45 mins guided tour and then we roamed around the exhibits. Really good value for money, highly recommended.

After two previous visits to the Royal Mint visitor centre, my wife and I, together with three friends decided to give the VIP tour a go. It was a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived our hosts couldn’t have been any more attentive. Our guides for the day were Hilary and Matthew, they were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They seemed to genuinely enjoy showing us around. Having been shielding throughout covid, the trip was my first to any sort of visitor centre since early 2019 (which as it happened was a “standard” trip to the Royal Mint just a week or so before the first lockdown). The VIP tour provides access to areas not seen on the standard tour, we met some of the design team and saw them working, and as we were such a small group (it was just the five of us on the tour), we were able to ask questions without feeling rushed, or feeling we were asking too many. We went into three factory areas and were able to see the minting close up while getting a full understanding of the manufacturing processes involved. We struck our own Commonwealth Games 50 pence pieces then visited the gallery. During our visit we had access to our own private room where we could leave bags etc and enjoyed some excellent food. Drinks and Welsh cakes / waffles were provided on arrival. Lunch was a delicious selection of freshly prepared meats, quiche, salads, bread etc. Then we had a choice of cakes and drinks in the afternoon prior to leaving. I thoroughly recommend a visit, whether it’s the standard tour or the VIP experience. Thanks to all the staff for making it a day to remember.

The Royal Mint is definitely worth a visit. We paid for a tour around the workshop. We got to see coins being struck from behind a glass wall. Then we got to strike our own £2 coin celebrating 150 years of the FA cup. Phil was our tour guide. He was knowledgeable on the whole process of coin making. After the tour, we looked around the museum. Lots to see. We spent just over three hours there. The car park is my next to the mint, and it's free. If you get a chance to visit, then go.

A great place to learn and get the behind the scene action on how coins are minted , distributed and quality is maintained. Located slightly away from the city, it's a proper 25 min drive and that's the only drawback I felt .. The gift shop is decent , slightly over priced , but overall a good place to visit

I don't think it's made clear before you arrive that you have to arrive bang on time to start a pre booked tour. We'd wrongly assumed you could turn up within say a 30min slot and wander around. We were only 2 minutes late but the tour had already left and given the security requirements, as the place holds many millions at any given time, it is now understandable, as you are escorted from building to building. The staff made us feel as though we were a huge inconvenience. Once in we did have a lovely time and loved the whole mint experience. We also bought lots in the gift shop and will keep an eye out for special events.

Good place to visit and very interesting. The staff are excellent. Arnie the tour guide was fantastic and brilliant with my son. He kept him entertained and engaged all the way around. The security lady was even brilliant. Both made my sons day!!

Had a lovely day here. We had a High Tea and a Guided Tour ending in the Museum. It was really interesting. The staff were very knowledgeable and I could have talked to them all afternoon. They were all very professional. This is a must !

Very interesting and educational for both me and the five year old. Learned loads I didn't know about coins and minting. Loved the small number of people on the tour, not crowded and easy for everyone to ask a question if they wanted. Not much happening in the actual mint but still cool to see how it worked and mint our own coin. Thought it might be a bit boring for five year old but it wasn't too long so he was kept interested and the reward for completing the scavenger Hunt was an unexpected bonus. Really nice little cafe and spotless facilities.

Amazing experience, rich in history and with coins from throughout the ages and from around the world. We even got to see coins being bagged and weighed. Staff were super friendly and helpful, even the lads on the shop floor interacted with us and showed us coins they were bagging. Brilliant. We went on the Christmas Experience which was worth every penny! I highly recommend a visit to The Royal Mint.

Visited for the first time recently. A interesting day out and great to do something different. Big carpark just a short walk away, nice modern entrance. We had a group tour by a nice lady who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about coins. This lasted about an hour. We seen a couple of museum exhibits and then a window into the factory where you seen staff bagging up coins. The tour discussed about collecting and commemorative coins yet we didn’t see a lot of them which was a shame, most people get into collecting because of the commemoratives. Lunch was nice in the cafe. My ticket was tour for Two with lunch, this allowed £10 per person for lunch which was sufficient. I will revisit again some day.

Such a good experience and something different to do. Tour guide was lovely he was really friendly and great with my child. Really interesting information and was great to get out on the factory floor and see money minted. Only downside for me was untidy loos and the cost. It was pretty expensive.

Fantastic visit. Daniel the tour guide was amazing considering his first tour. Would happily recommend to anyone. Only downside was their is certain areas where photography is not permitted due to what’s in the room and the particular section of the tour. But, the Your Guides and security are clear about these sections in advance. Very interesting to see how coinage is made.

Extremely enjoyable and informative place to visit, the museum covers the making of coins from the first coin to coins of today. The tour is very informative, explaining the making of coins from raw materials all the way to the finished currency, including all foreign coins made. If you take a weekend tour, the factory floor is not in operation, but! you do get a chance to go onto the factory floor. Because if you do a weekday tour, you're only allowed to watch from behind the glass. Security is tight, but that's to be expected. Also, it has a nice cafe to get something to eat and drink.

The tour and museum were both fantastic - very engaging and informative about how our coins ware made (from design through to delivery) and that the Royal mint also makes other countries coinage. The tour was about 45-55 minutes then allow at least another 30-45+ for the exhibition afterwards. Tours should be prebooked as they can sell out. Ours had about 20 people with variety of ages, and everyone seemed engaged. As it was a bank holiday we were able to go on the factory floor rather than just viewing through glass, which was a nice touch. Photos are not allowed during the tour, but are in the exhibit. The cafe is nice for a snack or lunch - the sandwiches were actually great quality especially for the moderate price. Toilets are newer and clean. Car park had ample parking and only a two minute walk from the entrance.

More than a museum, the tours of the live minting facilities, gives an intriguing insight into the history and mechanics of present day money (coins only). Far for being staid, adults and even children (over 5) will likely find the Royal Mint interesting. We ended up spending more in the shops for the thematic coin collections. Our son has decided that he may become a coin collector as a result of our visit!

Great experience for everyone from a young cool collector to a Numismatist or anyone curious in how coins are made. Includes a tour of the Factory an opportunity to strike you own coin (add-on) and visit to the museum with changing exhibits.

Very interesting place for those old enough to appreciate it. Staff extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the history and current scenario. Who knew we made coins for so many other countries?! Cafe was reasonable but not very exciting. Shop was expensive but full of great gifts if you happen to be loaded. I would say there's very little point taking anyone under the age of 8 there unless they have a pre-existing fascination surrounding coins and their history.

Wonderful experience. As we visited in the weekend we were permitted to see the inner factory and minting machines one by one in close proximity. Museum is amazing and well explained by the Guide . Amazing to see the boxes of Coins, beautiful car, had great experience.

We really enjoyed The Royal Mint Experience! There were lots of interesting facts. We never knew how many coins the Royal Mint makes for other countries. The children had lots of fun seeing all the coins and striking their own. Our guide was absolutely lovely and even the workers on the floor were interacting with the children through the glass. We would definitely recommend the experience to others!

Great place to visit to learn the history of coins , we took the tour to see how they are made and even have a turn at striking your own coin. Tommy our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging . Museum was very interesting aswell full of history and hands on exhibitions . Well stocked gift shop and great cafe. All in all a great visit , highly recommended.

Just amazing how the world's coins are made, not just the pound. Had an amazing tour guide called Cat, and a very knowledgeable security guard. It did cost £55 for 2 of us with a meal and you get to mint your own 50p x 2 (just push a button) but still worth it. Would recommend it and if I'm down that neck of the woods I would go again. Best to book online before you go.

I really enjoyed visiting The Royal Mint and learning about the history of the mint and how things have evolved. The tour was shorter than I expected but still enjoyable. We got to stamp our own coins which were the decimal day 50p. Toilets and a cafe onsite. Lots of free parking available. Booking in advance is advised.

The tour and exhibition is well worth a visit. On the tour, you will learn about how coins are made and you will even get a chance to mint one yourself (which you can later purchase for a small fee from the gift shop). The tour is in a secure part of the complex, so you're not allowed to take photos, but photos are allowed in the exhibition. There is also a cafe on site if you want a hot or cold drink or some food.

I suggested the Royal Mint Experience as a stop on our journey home from a Welsh holiday, and got a resounding 'Meh' from my Husband and Teens. We decided not to book in case we got held up on the way there, but buying tickets on the door was not a problem at all. The signposting wasn't great driving there, but the SatNav found it nice and easily. The staff were lovely and welcoming. We took the tour and the tour guide was knowledgeable, and held our interest. The exhibition was really interesting too. Overall it turned out to be a great stop.which broke the journey nicely and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the family.

Good tour guide, very informative. You see a little of the production area, but obviously not a lot for security reasons. Can't take photos in this area, but can in the display sections. Can press your own coin at an extra cost. Nice cafe with hot and cold food available at reasonable prices. Plenty of car parking spaces.

Pleasant visit which was educational on the process of money production by the Royal mint. The parking is free at the car park. There are toilets on site in several places. There is a small gift shop and also a cafe, which offers a selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, cakes and refreshments. Reception staff were very professional and courteous, they were great to deal with.

Fantastic visit to the Royal Mint. The facilities are outstanding for a public venue. The parking is spot on, lots of big spaces available when we visited. The tour guide was knowledgeable and super friendly. The shop staff also went above and beyond for us. 5 stars all round.

Great opportunity to learn first hand all about the worldwide coins produced under their licence, opportunities to strike your own coin, visit the museum and relax in the cafe is good. Shop has extras you can't buy online

What a wonderful place to take the grandchildren. I've been quite a few times with students and loved it every time. The staff are so friendly and seem so happy that they must enjoy their jobs. It's so well organised, clean and tidy, you wouldn't believe how many millions are stored there. The cafe is lovely, lots of space. The children had a great time. The price is amazing especially with the presents the children had from father Christmas. I would highly recommend the Christmas experience to all.

A great insight into the process of coin production for this country and many other countries that have their coins made here. The ticket option which includes a meal and a coin triple struck in your presence is great value for money. There is a nearby dedicated free car park too.

Lovely family visit to the Royal Mint. The guided tour was very informative and got the coins being made on the factory floor. Full of history and great to see the vast range of minted coins. We all had a great time, facilities are very good and overall a fab experience.

Great fun and although very interesting for adults it has a lot geared to children. A nice place to spend a few hours on a rainy day and has a decent cafe and gift shop which you can access for free from the free car park. So if you haven't got time to do the tour and are just looking to break your journey through Wales then this could be an interesting variation on the usual service centre (but they don't sell fuel, obviously!)

  • 5/5 Florence W. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent visit. Best times are before the 3pm slot which allows more time to see the exhibition at your leisure. Guides know their subject well and are very good. Nice Caffe and services. Good parking. Excellent staff.

This was a coin collectors heaven. It was really good, I loved the tour and going inside the factory itself. I'd recommend booking personally, but you don't have to. Plenty of parking disabled and normal. Overall, the tour lasted about an hr, maybe less if no one asks any questions. Our tour guide was brilliant. She knew her stuff x

Brilliant, went today had a fantastic time, well layed out, brilliant tour guide Zac, spotlessly clean throughout, very friendly staff, great food in the cafe, what's not to like, my grandson at 6yrs had a brilliant time, loads of parking for disabled. Well worth a visit.

This is a great place to visit. Watching the coins being minted to go all over the world is amazing, the museum is fascinating, make sure you take the option to mint your own coin. Be careful how much you spend in the shop though, lots of shiny stuff to tempt your money away.

  • 5/5 haley j. 1 year ago on Google
A really lovely tour of the Royal mint tour guide very knowledgeable, tour lasts about an hour we even got to press our own coin, the museum is a great to explore its a shame some the activities are still closed off for the kids. A lovely few hours out

Really enjoyed. Worth a visit of you're in the area. Not worth the entry money though. Printing your own coin is a rip off at £6.90 for a 50p coin. Really!

  • 5/5 Krystyna B. 2 years ago on Google
Found this place very interesting. You can book a guided tour and even mint your own coin. Surprising who they mint for.

  • 5/5 Chris F. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing to see how it all works. £90m of coins sitting in that warehouse. I'd be like scrooge mcduck, swimming in it!

  • 5/5 Craig F. 1 year ago on Google
It was a good experience, only took 45mins for the guided tour, but we were a small group of 15 people, so expect it to take longer with bigger groups, once that was done spent time round history of the mint museum. I collect coins since i were little so im only ever gonna say good times about the place, well worth the drive to, had a picnic outside before we sent back.

  • 5/5 Richard C. 2 years ago on Google
A much more interesting day out than I expected! I’m a coin collector myself… so was looking forward to the gift shop… what I didn’t expect was a chance to see the actual production floor. Nothing beats seeing millions on cash! The tour guide was professional and friendly - the on-site cafe did the job and parking was nice and easy. Great day out - even with kids - but especially coin collectors! A British institution.

Good place to learn about how money is made and the history of our money too. Also nice seeing medals as well
