Visiting just after two storms meant that a lot of the site was closed until safety checks had been completed. Nevertheless Dyffryn is a pleasant place to visit and there was still a lot to see. I will go back in late spring or summer to enjoy the gardens and arboretum. The house is closed to the public. The cafe produced a decent light lunch and I ate on the sunny south facing terrace. The car park is large with an electric charging point. Adequate toilets and a big gift shop that also sells plants.

Absolutely lovely gardens, perfect for a day out and a picnic. Really friendly staff and well maintained grounds. Good little cafe too. Beautiful throughout, it would be great to see how it changes through the seasons too. If I lived closer I'd come frequently!

We spent a lovely couple of hours at Dyffryn Gardens on a sunny Friday morning in October and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff member we spoke to in the shop on arrival was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable and suggested a couple of different routes through the garden as this was our first visit. She also provided us with a detailed map of the gardens. Unfortunately, the house was closed due to renovation work but we were aware of this before visiting. Even though you can't go inside just yet, they have completed work on one side of the building so only one side remains covered in scaffolding. The house looks very grand from the outside and we will certainly be coming back in future to visit inside when it reopens. The gardens here are very varied and a pleasure to enjoy. Near the entrance to the site there is a large arboretum but we were unable to visit most of this as it was quite muddy from recent rainfall. Near the entrance to the arboretum is a beautiful rockery which is home to a wide variety of plants and has a couple of benches and viewpoints. Most of the paths around the rockery are fairly even so could be enjoyed by wheelchair users and prams but some of the routes have steps. After we visited the rockery, we visited the main lawn outside the house before heading towards the cacti and exotic plants in the glasshouse. The glasshouse was home to a wide variety of exotic plants and also had a display of exotic squashes which were recently grown on site. After visiting the glasshouse, we meandered our way through the various garden 'rooms', stopping every now and then to take in the wide variety of plants and spectacular views they offer. Most of the paths in this area are flat and accessible to most. There are a couple of steps in places but there is usually a flatter alternative route. There were a couple of slippery paths in places, particularly near puddles so you might need to be extra careful. At the end of the garden rooms are a series of more natural areas at the end of the main law. There are also some water features here and well-positioned benches to sit and enjoy the view. There is also a toilet block nearby and an outdoor natural play area for children. The play area also sits at the end of one of the main routes through the arboretum so you could enjoy a circular walk back to the start on a dry day.

Beautiful gardens, a nice cafe where you can watch birds feeding over the river in the window, and a big manor house (closed for refurbishments on our visit) l. There's a glass house of succulents and various Japanese statues which we found pretty interesting. The shop also has some nice art, crafts and agricultural bits. Wear sensible shoes if you plan on walking the woodland.

Absolutely beautiful place. Spent almost the whole day here, just so gorgeous! All the staff are super helpful and friendly, the cafe has some super tasty food too. We spent ages in the natural play area with my toddler and I can't wait to come back again soon. Has definitely become one of my favourite places to visit

The gardens were very nice for a wander around. Lots of little paths to explore and secret areas to sit. The house wasn't open unfortunately and we were informed that it probably wouldn't open again until next year. We enjoyed a nice lunch in the cafe.

As a rare, warm & sunny day was forecast, we grabbed the opportunity to spend the day at Dyffryn Gardens. A beautiful, rural hideaway, set in around 55 acres of gardens & forestry, Dyffryn is a feast for the senses. The house is closed to the public at the moment due to conservation work, but that doesn't detract at all from the beauty that awaits. On rounding the house, a blaze of glory meets the eye. Flowers of all colours & sizes stand majestically for you to inspect, with bees buzzing away merrily, oblivious to all. There are wide open spaces & small hidden places, with benches to rest & recharge in both open & shady spots. There's so much to see, where to begin? A long water feature full of lily pads and glorious blue dragonflies leads you to a tumbling fountain, then the vine walk, full of grapes twisting & twining around their posts. There are so many different styles of garden that it would spoil it to go through them all. There is a natural play area for the youngsters & new this year, some musical instruments dotted around, just waiting to be played. The arboretum is a must if both quiet, beauty & shade are needed & it's a lovely way to end your visit. Of course, before leaving, we had to partake of tea & cake, a tad expensive but very enjoyable. The scones were huge & deliciously light. A lovely day out for all ages, give it a try.😁

I had a lovely day here with my family. A lot of the gardens are currently being re-worked but there was still plenty to see wandering through the maze of different zones. I will definitely be returning to this gorgeous spot in the future!

Really nice gardens, and the trees are really good with a lot of different varieties, Definitely worth a visit if you're a national trust member, (£11.00) the house is not open at the moment but they hope to have it open this year, so we'll be back again.

Spent a good two hours walking around the gardens in late March. Lots to see. Tea and ice cream in front of the house was very pleasant. Definitely would visit again

Lovely location. Good facilities. A lot of garden preparation in progress. Need to go at different times of the year to appreciate the whole of it but that's the nature of the gardens.

The house at National Trust Dyffryn Gardens is undergoing a major refurbishment.....As you will see by the photographs it is completely surrounded by scaffolding.....There is plenty of information there to show you what work is being carried out..... Every side of this magnificent house needs repairing.......The work the contractors are doing is an amazing job ,it will look as good as new once it is completed.... There is also a lot more work to be done in some of the garden areas,to restore to it original beauty......👍

Ample of parking, nice welcoming reception area with cafe, facilities, plant shop and gift shop and picnic area. It's a dog friendly venue. If you want space for the kids to run off energy, this is a perfect place. Parks, woodland secret gardens. Lots of flat paths for push chairs and wheel chairs. They have golf buggies for people with accessibility restrictions so they can enjoy this venue. The big house is being restored so no access at the moment. Sadly no time scale on completion.

Lovely garden and mansion House just outside Cardiff. The house is closed for renovations at the moment but the gardens are still nice to walk around. Small cafe at the entrance and a free car park. Well worth a visit.

An excellent recommendation from one of the staff at St Fagans museum after we arrived with no ticket. Mostly flat so we were able to take a wheelchair around. Very pretty gardens even at this time of the year. Well worth a visit. You may even need a couple of visits to see it all. Lots to see. Free to get in. Well laid out and well staffed.

Easy car parking, especially for blue badge holders. Cafe and reception (including toilets) easily accessible. Tarmac path to house, which is still undergoing restoration so not open. Large gardens and walkways some with steps around estate. Courtyard café next to house with larger seating area but doesn't have hot food other than takeaway pasties and sausage rolls. Main cafe by entrance has proper cups, plates and cutlery. Courtyard cafe has disposable cups and cutlery. Also sandwiches prepacked at Courtyard cafe. Golf buggy driven by very helpful driver to get you around the gardens. Will be absolutely stunning when gardens fully restored by a team of NT gardeners.

Really enjoyed are visit, spentnearlythe wholeday here, lovely interesting gardens, well laid out, with lots of work done and lots of work to do, plenty of interesting statues, great green house, walled garden, lots of water, (would of liked to of seen ramps for hedgehogs ect to get out if they fell in! )lots of staff all friendly and helpful, lots of places to sit and admire the views and read our books. Good choice of food and drinks in the restaurant, with nice choice of cakes. Had a very well run and laid out library of second hand books to buy. Nice shop and selection of items including plants. House wasn't open as having lots of work done to the outside so scaffolding all round, lots of noticeboards to let you know what's going on, not all the garden was available to walk round. Really looking forward to are next visit to see how they are getting on with finding and restoring this house and gardens . Also FREE parking and plenty of it, Excellent.

Even though the weather was awful, we still had a lovely time and can't wait to go back in the spring. The staff were so friendly and the cafe served lovely hot drinks and cakes which were very much needed due to the weather conditions. Getting around is very good for young and old alike......well worth a visit.

We had a great day out. Garden and grounds looking very nice. Lovely people working there who are extremely helpful. The house should be finished and open early next year

Definitely worth a visit. A series of gardens with a lot to see. Plenty of space so you're not crowded by other visitors. And space for children to run and play and let off steam while adults guess the plant names. ( give yourself a point for each one you can name without looking at the label :D )

A fantastic place ,although as it was summer I was expecting the flowers and gardens to be in full bloom , I still had a lovely wander around, thankfully being school holidays it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be.

Unusually I think the National Trust actually undersold this venue. The gardens are definitely well worth visiting. They are split into various 'rooms' but unlike many places, here there is great variety within with a different feel around every corner. The planting has been carefully considered and feels appropriate, with some interesting combinations for inspiration. We didn't spend long enough on our visit as it was a speculative stop when traveling nearby but, having discovered it, we will be making another journey specifically to visit soon.

We spent a couple of hours here while we were in the area and it was well worth the visit. It’s a lovely looking house, unfortunately we couldn’t go in when we visited due to on-going restoration work, but the outside is beautiful all the same. The gardens surrounding the house are worth exploring, there’s loads of interesting landscaping to see and some great plants and flowers - tropical plants and cacti in the glass houses were my favourites!

  • 4/5 Wei H. 6 months ago on Google
Highlights of the gorgeous garden is their green house of sub tropical plants and desert plants which some were amazing size and range. Beautiful Dahlia were out when we visited. Medium size. The mansion was closed for renovations but the gardens were peaceful and beautifully constructed so still worth a visit.

Wonderful garden ... love to see many maple trees turning red-orange. Will definitely visit again when the house restoration project is completed. At the end of the visit, we spent an hour with coffee, cakes & reading second book we bought there. Great experience !!

The place is beautiful and well kept, however 1) the main house is closed for visitors which is a huge shame, 2) there is no safe way to get there if you don't drive - very behind the times, as they should be encouraging active travel! There's no direct train connection and the closest bus stop is more than a mile away. I ended up taking the train to Barry and cycling from there, but the route wasn't exactly safe and led along a busy motorway which was super stressful, therefore 1 star less. The gardens are well kept and have loads of various plants, from roses to edibles (such as fennel and pumpkins). I very much enjoyed the glass house with lemon trees, what a treat! There are toilets on site, a café and a souvenir shop with some yummy-looking curds and jams. I decided to buy a toffee apple curd, can't wait to tuck in! There's also a bookstore with second hand books, which looked interesting and had loads of tables inside and outside to sit with a book or to eat your lunch at. They advertise autumn walk from 1/09 however I found 23/09 was way too early for autumn walk as all plants/trees were still very much green, i.e. no bursts of colour as advertised, I suppose we were blessed with a warm September though.

Beautiful gardens with lots to see. Nice walks through the copse. Lots of areas suitable for wheelchairs and benches dotted around in lots of locations. Plenty of toilets located around the site and a nice cafe offering light bites and picnic benches available. Small shop and plants available for sale. House currently not open as undergoing extensive external and internal renovations. Definitely worth a visit.

Went here then it was cold and wet day. It's a nice place to go for a walk. But definitely would wait for spring or summer to go there, then all plants, trees and flowers have blossomed so you could also have nice picnic with family or friends. It's a beautiful garden. Cafe and shop ladies was very lovely 😊 it's also dog friendly 🐶

Nice location for a wander around the gardens and different areas of the gardens. The house was under construction and looks like it could be a long time until open. Lots of areas around the gardens that were off limits because of ongoing work being done. Watch out for the wasps around the seating cafe area as it was impossible to sit there.

Beautiful place to visit as we do often. Watching the earth spring to life again this time and at the end of our walk a lovely coffee and cheese scone sitting outside in the sun, perfect.

Lovely day out at Dyffryn Gardens today. The house wasn't open but there was lots to do for children and I believe 'The tiger had come for tea'. 😀 The gardens are undergoing lots of work and repairs so not at their very best but still lovely. It's spring so the bulbs are looking gorgeous and the dormant plants are starting to poke their heads out of the ground. Cactus fans must visit the greenhouse, some amazing specimens on show.

  • 5/5 Heather K. 2 years ago on Google
Dyffryn is absolutely fabulous. A beautiful place and such a lot of work to do to restore it its full glory. Everyone was very welcoming and I loved our visit there, including the tiger who came to tea exhibition.

Dyffryn Gardens is a pleasant National Trust location, boasting a large estate with an expansive garden and arboretum. Traveling to this location on a wet and windy day did mean that the arboretum was closed to the public, but don't let that spoil your visit. There's plenty to see and do around the estate. The gardens offer plenty in the way of discovering wonderful cubby holes, statues hidden amongst the trees and doorways leading to new scenes - there is plenty to discover in the estate. On a wet day, it's advised to wear suitable footwear as it can get very muddy on some walking trails. The route up towards the greenhouse features some slippery pathways so take care. The on-site café also offers more than tea or coffee. At the back of this rest stop is an expansive book store, offering secondhand books from a plethora of genres for a small fee. You can expect to find plenty of restrooms dotted around this estate too, so you're never too far away from a pitstop if required. Overall, there is plenty to discover at Dyffryn Gardens and we will be eager to revisit in the summer when the arboretum and hopefully the house too reopens. AT.

Lovely place to visit with my family. Beautiful and fun spaces for my 3 year old. He loved it. When will the cafe bring back dishes and real cutlery? Our coffee and sandwiches produced a lot of waste which could have been avoided by serving food on plates and drinks in cups. Honestly I expected better quality from the cafe.

  • 5/5 Linda C. 2 years ago on Google
A beautiful place to visit. Staff working extremely hard in all areas of the gardens. Water feature looking attractive. It was good to see the cactus plants in the Glasshouse once more.

Another NT property with fantastic gardens! Plenty of hidden spots to rest, Caffe to have nice cuppa, play area for children and a lot of space to move around. The house is leased for NT for 50 years so hopefully it'll be available to wander inside in some time. Now let's enjoy it's exterior.

  • 4/5 Stephen M. 2 years ago on Google
This is the first time I have been to this garden, we were lucky to have a beautiful day weather wise, and I really enjoyed it very quiet on our visit mid week. The pandemic has had an effect sadly with the gardening staff being furloughed there are lots of areas of the garden now a work in progress to catch up on the work not done. Still plenty to enjoy some stunning trees & plants. Quiet and relaxing to walk in the grounds. The house is not open at the moment so I cant comment. We did pay a visit to the shop, but not the tea shop or book store. I am sure we will visit again.
