Very lovely castle. It's very easy to walk around and spend most of the day taking in the amazing scenery. It helped that it was a beautiful sunny day but even if it had been cloudy it would still be worth the look around. My favorite castle so far in the UK.

Amazing castle complex. Walking through the park with the castle in view was a great way to start our day. We arrived early so there weren't many people there. It felt like we had the place to ourselves for most of our visit. The circular route was easy to follow, I do wish there was more informative signage. The giant booklet they give you at the entrance was a bit too much to digest while walking around. Regardless, it's a beautiful place for a wander.

A most excellent castle indeed. Very large and open area. A most on all four sides. Some wonderful surprises and features. Lots of work is being done and it should be even better next year. We loved it and took a lot of photos. There is a great cafe across the road as well. Great gift shop too, picked up a lovely Penderyn whisky gift set. We'll definitely revisit some time.

Amazing visit to Caerphilly Castle which happens to be the largest castle in all of Wales. Staff is extremely friendly. The grounds are stunning on and around the castle. Nice walking paths. Castle itself is very interesting. Really glad we made the trip to Caerphilly to see this gem.

Experience history first hand! Our group had an amazing time exploring the entirety of this once amazing piece of architecture. Bring a stable pair of shoes for the steep spiral staircases and there are plenty of opportunities for great pictures.

It's a well kept monument with significant restoration work done. Furniture is recreated in a room which gives a feel of life in the past. Staff is polite and helpful. Worth visiting the second largest castle complex in the UK

Brilliant castle! Apparently second largest in Britain but doesn't feel that big. Lovely to walk around the perimeter on a sunny day. The kids will lovely the dragons and audio story that accompanies. Nice few hours spent here

AMAZING CASTLE! Currently it's open but under renovation (hence the ugly scaffolding all over the place) but it's definitely worth visiting nevertheless. If you don't want to pay to get inside, you can take in the views from the moat walkway all around the castle for free. But if you pay the admission fee, you'll be rewarded with some stunning views over Caerphilly, some interesting rooms and lots of things to do inside. It's pretty much a one way system, so you don't have to think too hard when navigating the castle. Overall, it's worth visiting.

We have a cadw membership and this was our first trip to Caerphilly Castle, we had a great day even with the conservation work being carried out where you can usually access! Beautiful views and the information boards easy to read and fun to read for kids meaning they can join in enjoying the history of the big beautiful castle grounds! My only downside was the dragons were barely visible and not at all enjoyable as they were covered by weeds and overgrown grass, if these had been cut back it would have been exciting to see them as it was one of the things my kids were excited about, very sad to see them neglected.

A really lovely castle. Second largest in Britain. Easy to get to. Lots of open space, very family friendly. Lovely scenic views. Peaceful surrounding. Easy to find parking nearby. Tickets can be brought in person or online. Well stocked gift shop. Lots of view points throughout. Limited exploring if disabled or if you are unable to manage crooked stairs. No guided tour is necessary.

Caerphilly Castle is an absolute must-visit! This historical gem left me truly impressed. The castle's impressive architecture, rich history, and stunning surroundings create an unforgettable experience. Caerphilly Castle is a remarkable testament to Welsh history and architecture. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a captivating outing, this castle won't disappoint. Note: There is a car park close to the castle.

It's Caerphilly's main tourist attraction, and so you would expect it to be worth the money. I'd say it definitely warrants at least a visit, but there's nothing much to do apart from walking and taking pictures. I would not recommend seniors to visit the upper levels of the castle, as it requires going up small and abrupt steps.

A very pretty castle with beautiful surroundings and views of Wales. The castle itself is empty and does not have much to offer, most of it was under renovation and rooms are pretty much empty. We paid 15.00 for two student tickets and received a free guidebook. I must say the staff is lovely, welcoming and informative

Absolutely wonderful time had by all! Dog friendly on ground level. Exploring was so much fun and so interesting for all of the family. Shame about the scaffolding but rhe guidebook was really helpful in getting a good view of how the castle should be.

A large castle with a reasonable amount intact. We got a guide book for free which gives a very good explanation of the history and significance of the castle. Well worth visiting!

The castle was being repaired on our visit so sections of it were closed, because of this we were given a free guide book. The size of the castle is impressive, but not much to see inside. There's a good view from the tower, but you cannot go to the very top although there are new stairways in place.

I love castles and the history around them - so generally I will always rate them highly. This is the 2nd largest castle in UK after Windsor and it has so much history wrapped into it - loved it.

Despite the weather, had a great day. Amazing castle. Didn't give 5 stars because there were lots of opportunities missed to engage the public. Could have spun much more of s story.

What struck me most about this castle is its external structure. I loved that it was still surrounded by water, which makes the scenery even more impressive. The leaning tower is really characteristic and the wooden statue that was placed there as a fake support is really funny. I was a little disappointed with the interior, but undoubtedly the castle is preserved in the best possible way. Undoubtedly worth visiting.

Visited 09/08/23 first people through the gate on this lovely sunny morning. Staff in the visitors entrance were brilliant and so welcoming. Then as we went into the castle we realised how beautiful and immense it was. You can see the castle remains from miles around and being inside it you can understand why. Each room was so full of history and so much information was available. The highlight for myself, husband and our 12 year old Grandson was the Guide Peter who in full medieval dress, came to talk to us and made our visit exceptional. He had such a great knowledge about the castles history and the people who once lived there. He made himself available to us wherever we were in the castle so we could ask him questions. You can tell he has massive knowledge and love for the castle. He tailored the information to the crowd as there were some very young children there, giving the option for people who wanted more information to ask him individually, which our grandson did and Peter talked at length answering all his questions. Thank you all the staff but especially Peter for making this an absolutely unforgettable experience for us all. The model dragons near the entrance and their story was fantastic and really added to the castles atmosphere!!! Well done all concerned. Highly recommended for a visit.

Huge castle, really awesome. It could do with some more information boards around the place. We got a free guide book as some of the castle is closed off to the public for work being done. The staff were lovely, very helpful & informative. We will definitely visit again. One negative, there was still signs everywhere with covid restriction directions, which got a little confusing at times, especially for the kids who kept telling me 'we can't go that way"

A nice place to stop and visit while visiting South Wales. I was informed that Caerphilly is the second largest castle in the Uk next to Windsor so i definitely recommend a visit here. The reason why i have awarded 4 stars is because i felt like the interior route could have been marked better since there were moments i wasn't sure i had seen it all. Also i wish the interior had more areas to learn or read instead of having to read from the book that was given to me at the entrance. Apart from this i recommend the visit.

Remarkable but if history on full view. We were greeted in the gift shop by Tom and enthusiastic employee who really is an ambassador for the sight. We decided to join CADW, which we were able to do so in the shop. We were able to walk through the castle with only one restriction to the courtyard as work was being done. There is also a path outside that circles the castle. This makes a great day trip from other areas as there is a train station in Caerphilly. Quaint town with shops and restaurants to round out your visit. Highly recommend and we will be back

Most impressive castle in size and location. Parts are set out to show how things were in the old days - weapons etc. Also a number of videos showing the history of the castle. Most parts are accessible including climbing stairs to the tops of towers from which are great views.

Charming town. We had very good weather and we were lucky to visit this beautiful town on a fair day. All in all a very nice experience . The car park is close by and there are lots of cafes and restaurants. Good location for a day out

A great example of Welsh Hisyory. Some parts are out of bounds at the moment as it is currently undergoing renovations however you are still able to see the majority of the castle. Can't wait to go back once the work is completed.

A very relaxed day in Caerphilly. First we had a lunch opposite the castle and then had a nice walk around the castle grounds. There are ducks, gees, swans and that made my photos even more spectacular. We went in after 2pm and first thing we found was dragon exposition, that was very nice. At this point its one way walk and its actually better. The yard was nice, we dropped coin in the well nd had nice photos with hidden soldier. Totally worth taking kids too as it has some stories to tell. Interesting history. Only thing I wish was available was the memorabilia coin, the machine where one can make it your self was out of order. Should be another option. People mostly collect coins, magnets, pins, postcards.

Great castle to explore! Loved the free guide book. Definitely worth a visit if in the area and once the whole castle is open again (renovation going on when we went, so a few rooms off limit including the great hall).

Absolutely magnificent. Was easy to find our way around. Obviously it’s a very old historical building so if you’re visiting expect tiny spiral stairs! Views was gorgeous, entrance staff was really nice too. I’ve marked a star down just because I’d have loved some more information on the castle. There’s not much around. Definitely recommend a visit though

Incredibly well preserved castle, with some very nice feature as the leaning tower, the over wall defense system, the staircases and some halls. The wall with the pond and defensive lake are offer a fantastic landscape at sunset. Our kids really enjoy the nest of the dragons!

A very good castle. Probably the best one in Wales. There are some restoration works going on inside the main area of the castle. Unfortunately unable to see all areas of the castle. But they have done a great job in opening what they can to allow you to see everything possible. The castle is dog friendly on ground floor levels only. If you're going alone with your dog, I would recommend waiting 1 and a half years til the restoration is completed.

What a beautifully kept Welsh castle surrounded by a moat and set in lovely grounds. Sadly I arrived too late in the day to tour the internals of the castle. It closes at 6pm but I could still walk the grounds and take good pictures.

  • 5/5 Nicholas D. 2 years ago on Google
The monument is so well preserved, and whoever did the AV installations is absolutely above reproach - make sure you enjoy the dragon tale on your left after you enter. It's a real feat of audio engineering.

  • 5/5 Adam C. 9 months ago on Google
Lovely to visit. A fair amount to see and read. Not too bad for price, especially offering NHS discount. Some lovely views from near the top. Unfortunately some of the areas were closed when we visited, but by way of apology, they gave us a free guidebook which was a really kind gesture and was really informative.

The largest castle in Wales and Second largest in the UK, I absolutely loved walking through what's left of the castle, and there was a lot more to explore than I initially thought! I love that you get to walk through self-guided, and it wasn't too busy on the Wed we went so we got to enjoy on our own time and at our own pace without feeling rushed. They have a leaning tower that actually leans more than Pisa! Right across the street is also a cute little shopping strip with anything you could need before or after your visit!

Lovely day out with my grandchildren. The staff are very helpful and friendly here. This isn't my first visit here but my first with my grandchildren. They were awestruck by it. The walk around the perimeter of the exterior is pleasant, with benches dotted around for those who need a rest. There is a nice coffee shop just opposite the main gates with a view of the castle. The town itself has a nice variety of shops and plenty of places to eat. We'll worth a visit.

Lovely morning spent exploring this castle with its history well explained by the guidebook and exhibitions. Weather was kind, allowing good exploring outside as well as in

Well worth a visit. It was amazing, so much to explore and learn. Each section had an information board. These gave very clear information with picures regarding that particular area/person /weapon. I would suggest wear stout footwear to get the full potential from your visit.

I had an amazing time at this castle, me and my partner were given free entry as I'm in a wheelchair and unable to access anywhere there are stairs. I had such a great time exploring the grounds and took so many photos! highly recommend visiting here!

Easy parking although it wasn't school holidays. The Castle was interesting and fun to explore. Lovely walk around the castle...loads of ducks and birds. Great day out.

  • 4/5 Dan S. 10 months ago on Google
Well-preserved castle ruins. There's some history to learn, but most of the rooms are empty. Probably won't take more than 2 hours to walk around, inside and out, but worth seeing the leaning tower and the displays of large weapons. Staff were a couple of disinterested teenagers who were polite at least. No on-site café; there's one just outside that has jolly staff, a good menu and a very utilitarian feel about it.

  • 4/5 Catherine A. 2 years ago on Google
Took my two girls (11 and 8) to the castle. Was a cold and wet day. Was great to wander around the castle. Up and down the turning staircases. We loved the views of the moat. Big hit was the dragon. Would be great to visit in the summer when things become a little more normal and perhaps some of the characters are around. We would definitely go back.

👍👍 I found this hidden gem of a place nestled in a side street opposite Caerphilly Castle. There is a skate park, playground, tennis courts and loads of green areas for the kids to play. Ample car parking is includes in the amenities and there was also a visit from a ice-cream van!

👍👍 Great place for a walk with a few, not too challenging routes around the hill. The mountain overlooks Caerphilly; from its top you can see the Caerphilly Castle as well as a better part of the town. When the sky is clear you can also see Cardiff Bay from here, as well as hills around Newport.
