Cheddar Gorge is stunning. Unfortunately the caves are currently closed due to Covid19 but the natural beauty of the gorge and the surrounding walks is breathtaking. Well worth a visit, just remember walking boots and poles as some of the paths are steep and uneven. On a clear day the views from the top of the gorge are magnificent.

My partner and I regularly hike around the Mendips, in various locations. It's pretty much beautiful throughout and it's hard to go wrong. Grab an OS map, or an app such as All Trails, and get out there!

we didnt want to pay to enter the gorge or other attractions as they were not as appealing to us. We have previously been in caves / gorges so know what to expect to see. However we drove from an Area in Somerset (Locking) around 35 min to this area. Its a lovely drive through the clifs and there is a lovely river and stream. We got hungry so decided to eat at one of the cafes ( their fresh scones are amazing ! ) We just did a little walking and had a stroll through the shops. Nice few hours out.

Stunning area for cycling, some brutal climbs & hair raising decent. Cycling up Cheddar Gorge is a must for any keen cyclist. Was there on August Bank Holiday weekend but apart from the foot of the Gorge the roads were lovely & quiet compared to my local New Forest Roads at this time of year.

Been up here before you was invented Google and now I can share my secret place of tranquil peace and thinking. I do alot of thinking here and the forest has changed but its managed so it will. Kids loved it and my old springer certainly does at 11 years old. Though he now can't walk. Lol really enjoyed but please take your rubbish home. There's no bins out here people. Take your rubbish home.

Beautiful scenery in the Mendip Hills, we only spent an hour here but I could have spend much more time there. Highly recommended visiting this location, though parking is sparse!

Lovely place to go camping / exploring. Lots to do and see. Deers Leap car park is a good spot to stay overnight in the van, only a small car park so get there early. Lovely views to wake up to.

Grew up here, roaming the fields till it was dark only heading home because it was dark and cold. Love the place, come and enjoy it. Leave no trace.

Second time we've visited, love it at Cheddar. Cheese, cider, good views, what else do you need? Has an alpine feel.

Beautiful place. Walk was short around the top of the hills. Fairly steep inclines. Cheddar was overrun with tourists but much quieter on the plateau above it 👍 recommended

This is great area for hiking with great views . Terrain is moderate so you can have good workout . I took circular from Cheddar George which is around 15 km in all and I was lucky to have nice weather .

A stunning part of the English countryside, with a mixture of views over to South Wales and many of the surrounding counties. Fantastic walking with lots of public footpaths over the upland areas and through wooded glades and valleys, and many beautiful villages with lovely pubs. Lots of things to see and do in the area.

Beautiful countryside, nature at its best.

  • 5/5 Shonie M. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely adore it here. Peaceful countryside at its best, random abandoned lead mines and underground passages too dangerous now to explore. Forest, plain, lake, whatever you want. Catch a glimpse of the Tor in the distance. Then drive to it, climb it, and look back on yourself. Then grab a pint and a burger at the George and Pilgrim, because who goes Glasto direction and doesn't go to the George and Pilgrim?!

Always a pleasure to be in or on top of the Mendips. Great for wildlife, views, walks and bike rides.

Simple but beautiful Grounds, strangely the church was closed on a Sunday.

An area of outstanding natural beauty, the Jo Quail can often be spotted in the Mendips during mid August, anyone lucky enough to catch the looping booming call of the female will never forget the experience.

Lovely walking with so many different paths to follow. Very quiet and great for dogs. Pretty wet and muddy at the moment down Dolebury end.

Such a beautiful, peaceful walk with fantastic views. It was a great escape from the day to day life of the city and only a 40 min drive from Bristol. Walked down into Cheddar gorge and had lunch in Lion Rock Tea Room, one of the many amazing cafés. Then browsed around the amazing selection of shops, selling things like local cider, cheese, handmade cakes and even an all year round Christmas shop. Such a wonderful day relaxing. I highly recommend a visit. 🙂
