Great for running laps around - less busy early morning. One lap of the rec plus one lap of Roath Park lake is about 5km. Keep an eye out for the Handlebar Barista coffee bike most weekdays.

It is a lovely place with a well maintained pitch for sporting activities. There are a number of goal post. The pitch should be about the size of 6 standard football pitch. There is a playground for children, and a library is located adjacent.

This is a fine area of a children's playground, a library, a spacious car park, and comfy gardens! It is a monumental place when roaming Cardiff! Also, parking on Sundays is free!

Great place for sports and picnics. We gather here as for picnics as a church and its great because the boys can play volley ball and families can gather to chat. Lovely on a sunny day!

Still great for a stroll, I just wish they would keep on top of it a little bit more. A few more bins never hurt anyone.

Unfortunately the carpark is not very clearly marked nor well lit e.g entry/exit and one way signs especially on a very dark and rainy evening, only plus is, it's free. Attended a fitness class here for the first time, once inside spacious reception area, but again no signs/activity board or staff to ask where to go, having found the room it's dark and stuffy with only the fire door to get any fresh air but couldn't open for obvious reasons as there was no stick to open the windows and as you can imagine a room full of ladies during a fitness class it gets a bit sweaty and stufffy. Overall great class and location, but definitely needs to be modernised and updated inside and out.

Amazing park with tons of people you can make friends with, however once u go a lot it can get boring and repetitive , but it is a very beautiful and multicultural park.

Like many other parks and open spaces, the Recreation Ground was used for allotments during the 1914-18 war and this continued after the war until 1920, when the Parks Committee served notices on the allotment holders to terminate their tenancies.[12] During the 1920s the level of the Recreation Ground was raised by tipping "scavenging refuse". This process was started in 1923, not without opposition from local residents,[13][14]and was completed in 1929. A.A. Pettigrew reported that in 1930 the surface was still unsatisfactory for the playing of games. When the sports field was eventually restored, rugby and soccer pitchces were provided in winter, while in summer baseball was the dominant game.[15] Ordnance Survey maps show that the playing area was enlarged between 1919 and 1940, by the removal of the footpath running along the south west side of Roath Brook. Later maps show that this footpath was restored in the 1950s and now runs between the brook and the playing field.

Son played under 10's football on a Saturday morning here. Pitch is a bit bumpy and uneven. Convenient for coffee on Wellfield Road.

The garden park is meticulously landscaped, with well-manicured lawns providing a soft, inviting space to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Mixed lovely when people have not left all their rubbish where they sat instead of taking it home or putting it in a bin

I'm reviewing this because it keeps popping up in my notifications πŸ˜‚. I can't say I normally review grassy fields πŸ€”. Ok... It is a nice, large, flat grassy area, popular with walkers, dog walkers, runners, picnicers (is that a word?) and sports people. It has a parking area and library / community centre on site and is located between the lovely shops, bars and restaurants on Wellfield / Albany road and Roath park lake and gardens. There is an enclosed children's playground area with swings, slide etc behind the library. Great in the summer when it is dry but can get a bit boggy in the wet weather as it is flat. I mean, I would give it 5 stars but I'm basically rating a large grassy area.. It isn't that exciting but ideally located and good for the things mentioned above πŸ‘†πŸ˜¬

The kids loved it. It was our first time visiting and one of them commented when we were leaving " this has been a good day" Also available is a library and gym. You can spend the whole day there.

Huge local recreational area used by nearby schools and sports teams but a haven for joggers and dogwalkers. Always busy in summer with students, bbqers and picnicking families. Lovely gardens across the road leading up to the lake and a nice play area at the end for the kids.

A very nice place for family and children, but it needs an increase and a little expansion of children's saliva

There is usually a great buzz around Roath Rec, especially in the summer when it’s great to see people of all ages socialising and having picnics on the grass.

Lovely afternoon spent there with family and friends. The only downside was the litter left by people who were too lazy to dispose of it in the prominent litter bins. We did dispose of some of the litter we came across.

Quite a nice area in cardiff, to just wander & chill. The place is surrounded by cafes & coffeshops for snacks and drinks while watching the world go by. Decent park for the kids, always fairly clean & tody there too.

Free parking on Sundays. Playground is OK for an hour or so. The field gets busy on warm days with people enjoying themselves and all types of people arrive for picnics music and a beer.

Went with my dogs. Parking is nightmare. All the dog waste bins were full and overflowing. They either don't have enough or they don't empty them regularly enough. Parks and streets, in Port Talbot by comparison, in the 5 years I have been living there dog waste bins appear to be emptied daily. So much clearer.

Great open space used by community groups for sports such football and rugby. Small well equipped children's park at edge of field. Unfortunately toilets in library building no longer available since half building converted into gym. There are cafes close by in Wellfield Road. Parking next to library pay and display. There is 2 hrs free parking but very important you must still register car on pay and display machine to have free parking for 2 hrs. Local Nordic walking group use it for warm ups before heading off for practice walks around Roath Park lake. Lake has cafe with clean toilets.

Not much for toddlers, but for slightly older children there is a fair bit of equipment. Our toddler did like the big slide. Busy on a Saturday and carpark very busy. Well situated for nearby cafes.
