A Travelodge is a Travelodge. So really all I can say about the room is it was tidy with a good view, on the top floor, looking towards the bay. The tenpin bowling next door was initially noticeable but soon was ignored. The staff were friendly and helpful. I couldn’t fault them. The location is amazing. A few minutes walk to the bay and all the eateries around there. 20 minutes walk away from Cardiff city centre and the wealth of shops. We stayed with our dog and will happily stay there again. The bonus compared to the competition was the free parking and this is what swayed me.

Fabulous stay "Very clean, great bathroom and spacious room, nice and warm showers, taste food not far from the city. Due to covid 19, the social distancing are in place to the different types of things that need to be placed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I definitely think this review will help you make the right choice to come to Cardiff.

Great location for Cardiff Bay and lots of amenities within walking distance. Free parking, staff however need to explain to customers how this works whilst checking in! Room was clean but no Hand-wash, shower gel or toiletries provided as stated in the booking. Also missing a bathroom floor mat, so quite a slippery floor once stepping out of the shower. Very noisy in the night with people in corridors. Service and attention to detail could be improved.

We stayed at the Travelodge for 2 nights, myself, my partner and our 1 year old and booked a twin room. This ended up being perfect as it meant that whilst we had the double bed, our toddler could enjoy the single bed. I ended up folding the legs in on the single bed so that it became more of a floor bed so if the little one fell out, he’d barely notice. The room was basic. My partner was expecting a fridge in there, but there wasn’t, which meant that some food that we’d bought along with us for the little one, we just couldn’t keep because there was nowhere cool to keep it. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work and there was one plug socket located on the one side of the room which meant no phones near the bed overnight if we wanted to charge them. (I appreciate this is a very first world problem!) I’d packed my power pack though so I used that instead. The room was clean and tidy and offered somewhere nice to stay overnight. The highlight was most definitely the service. Every single staff member we encountered was just lovely. When we spoke to reception, they were very informative and gave us loads of milk cartons to take advantage of when I asked for more milk. I’m a big tea drinker so I really appreciated this! Even when we went down to breakfast, the ladies working in the restaurant always greeted us with a smile and made a point of acknowledging our son. I quite enjoyed the buffet though I think it’s smaller than other Travelodge hotels we’ve stayed at. This hotel is dog friendly, which will suit some people. It did mean we had a bit of a loud dog in the room opposite us but on the whole, it wasn’t a problem. As with most hotels, a lot of noise carried through from the corridor, which I was conscious about given that the little one was asleep by 9pm. The location was pretty good as well. It’s only 10 minutes to walk to Cardiff Bay and about 30 minutes to walk into the city. I feel like we probably paid quite a bit for the room but given that it’s a week before the schools break up and it’s location, plus it seems it’s graduation time as well, there’s probably a high demand on rooms.

The hotel is generally OK and is usually pretty cheap. The biggest perk is the free parking. However, our bathroom was pretty disgusting in our room, lots of other people's hair around. Our toilet then started leaking all over the floor which was pretty grim. We moved rooms and although it was a Friday night and obviously some noise is expected but this hotel was SO loud. We literally got no sleep between people in the rooms next to us slamming their doors and shouting and people standing outside the main door. The lady that checked us in was really friendly but when we complained about our room we received no apology. Overall would definitely not recommend.

Lovely friendly staff and perfect location for Cardiff bay being a 5 min walk and the red dragon centre directly next door only issue with hotel is its looking dated and needs maintenance doing properly as our room had a leak above and ceiling was stained to bits and room walls and window sill were heavily chipped and marked.... Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice

Booked this place for a 2-night leisurely stay as I was told the two on St. Mary's Street were "on the warpath" and reviews of those suggested the same. GOOD - Friendly staff who let us check out at 2pm free of charge because some miscreants thought it funny to set off the fire alarm at 3.45am on our last night, leaving us very groggy and exacerbating my partner's medical issues - Acceptably comfortable bed - Next to Red Dragon Centre or whatever its called so in easy reach of food BAD - Main light in our room broken - Older and more basic side of things as far as Travelodge bathrooms go - Rubbish from previous occupants under bed - Noise from bowling alley might disturb if you want to have a lie-in - Room a bit stuffy despite it being winter but then we didn't test the air con - Staff member came in without knocking first on our checkout day All in all, acceptable for a night or two if you need a roof over your head and either can't or don't want to stay dead in the city centre.

Basic, clean hotel good for a short stay. Located close to city centre in Cardiff Bay area. Staff very friendly. Only negative was body wash dispenser in bathroom didn’t work which is very annoying when you’re in shower.

Its a travel lodge, and you get what you pay for. The room was clean and basic, the bed was comfy. It was pretty much as you expect. I originally paid £110 a few days before for the room with free cancellation before midday on the day of arrival. At about 11 on the day of arrival I checked the prices and saw the room was now only £70. So I cancelled my booking for free and rebooked saving myself £40. Keep this in mind when booking

An all round great hotel! Staff were fantastic and super friendly! Fire alarm did go off but the manager or deputy manager? Was great with it and thanked us all for coming down. Rooms had a great view over Cardiff and the location was super close to the bay meaning close transport links to the city centre!

Stopped here while on holiday is in a prime location for both Cardiff city centre and the Bay. It was about a 2 minute walk to the train that takes you from the Bay to the town centre. The train takes about 3-4 minutes to get you to the town centre instead of walking which is about 15-20 minutes. Another good reason to stop here is on a night if you want to sleep your not directly near the pubs and bars like you would be if booking in the town. Would stop here again.

Nice clean room, bed, towels and bathroom. Reasonable sized tv but I didn't watch it. Comfy bed, slept very well with extra pillows in the room. Breakfast was help yourself english Breakfast with fruit and croissants, yogurt, cereals toast and maybe other bits I missed. Hot food was a bit dry but filled me up nicely. Start a 7am though,so I had to rush. Would definitely stay again! Oh, also next door to cinema, bowling alley, casino and a few restaurants. Literally 1 minute walk.

We used this Travelodge because it was central to the area we wanted to be. It was walking distance to the Bay and provided lots of place to dine . Parking was free and easy as long as you remember to submit reg number before leaving the hotel each time . (Barrier system in place) The staff were friendly and the area was clean. All you would expect from Travelodge. We also brought our dog on this occasion (£20 extra per stay ) so happy on all accounts.

First time I was unable to leave a bag at the hotel after arriving an hour early. Was told I could book an early check-in for £10.00 ! Which also meant a room was ready. Just another way of getting a bit extra out of you. Could easily have put bags behind reception or in the room that they wanted me to pay for. Very disappointing.

Mixed feelings about this Travelodge. Negatives: Basic room that felt very dated. I was surprised to find out the hotel opened in 2008 and not 1980. Cubby hole in the headboard instead of a bedside table, only room for a cup. Tiny, dim bedside lights & non-working desk lamp. Very dirty window. Shower tray not completely cleaned. Positives: personable and helpful reception staff. Working lifts. Well stocked vending machines in reception. Plenty of parking. Within walking distance of town. Hotel was quiet at night (Sunday). I've since read about the future development of this site that will include a new hotel. That probably explains why it is just ticking over and not being updated.

Lovely friendly and accessible travel lodge. we were able to park the car right outside and because we were so central we didn't use the car again until we packed up and left to come home. My husband who is disabled and in a wheelchair found the whole experience uncomplicated and easy.

Good location and free parking. But the shower was horrendous. No any soap or bath gel when we first got into the room and the dispenser was broken and extremely filthy. Asked for a refill, both of them were filled up but they didn’t even bother to fix and clean them. Some of the dirts were even inside of the bath gel they refilled.

Booked due to the free parking and was pleasantly surprised by our stay. Staff were lovely, everyone was welcoming and provided better service than we've had in some 5 star hotels. Room was fine, dated and could do with an update, but the bed was comfortable and clean. Location is a 15 minute walk to the city centre and there is free parking in a shared carpark, just put your reg plate in when checking out. Only feedback is to potentially look at installing a soft close function on the room doors, we stayed for 3 nights and had no issues apart from the last evening when another guest was entering and leaving their rooms between 1 and 3am that kept us awake with the doors slamming. Not the hotels fault, but perhaps the doors could have something installed to prevent this. Breakfast buffet was nice and had veggie options. Overall, we would stay again, good value for money.

Never again, a horrible lady named Kim ruined it. wanted a late check out, was told the systems were down when we checked in and we could pay when leaving in the morning .Kim walked in 11.30, 11.45,(despite normal checking being 12) and then again at 12.15 and told us we have 30 mins to leave or we'll be charged for another day. We explained the situation about the systems being down and even asked if we could pay for a late check out now (12.15pm) but she wasn't having any of it. Maybe the colour of our skin offended her! At reception she hardly apologized and wasn't bothered about customer service! Did not attempt to make us happy, nothing, lifeless empty woman! I don't know why Kim has a job there ,absolutely vile woman. Other than that, make sure you put your reg in the machine and if you go out, to re enter your reg(every time) otherwise you'll get a ticket. Night staff were polite and friendly but Kim needs re training.

A very basic hotel it is dog friendly and in a good location between the town and the wharf. The first thing I noticed upon booking into my room is that there was mould around the windows. The breakfast was £9.50 for all you can eat, but I never felt like I wanted a second, serving, as it was only ever lukewarm and bacon was very salty. I would recommend for a few nights, but I will not stay for any longer than that.

Stayed while on our Wales Road trip. Situated in the Atlantic Wharf area of Cardiff it is right in the heart of Cardiff and all it has to offer. It is a sizeable building but giving it a 3 star rating is a bit generous as we have stayed in 1 star Travelodges that have been far more spacious roomwise but maybe it has given that due to its proximity to the centre of everything to do in Cardiff. There is a car park behind it that actually takes you into the rear of the building and your free parking allowance allows you to park on the nearby Red Dragon Complex car park. Please be aware that you MUST input your car reg into the console in reception EVERY time you drive out or you will receive a parking ticket. The rooms were clean and bed comfy. Also if you are in a room that faces Hemingway Road and you have the window open, please be prepared for noisy cars and vans using that road ALL night and it gets quite annoying. Apart from that the 2 night stay was nice and ideally placed to enjoy the Welsh capital to it's fullest

Nice location about 10 minutes walk to Cardiff Bay centre. Free parking via Red Dragon location. Very pleasant people at reception and cafe. Decent room with all expected facilities. Breakfast in nice room was full buffet and just fine. You can't expect more from a Travelodge and value for money was excellent.

Allowed a staff member to come into room at 1am waking us up and move furniture around “looking for silent alarm in the headboard”. When I complained about the night being disturbed and other facilities being broken and they blamed me for tampering with the alarm and let the staff member off and closed investigation!? Very poor customer services as they seemed to want to cover it up and money driven as they felt this wasn’t worth atleast a partial refund for the intrusion. would not recommend even on budget

Staff friendly and helpful, room good size and clean. Vibrant location and good for trips out. Husband is disabled and shower seat is ridiculously small and unsafe. Goodness knows how a large person would sit on it.

All a bit bog standard, lots of hotels have to upgrade TVs but these are very small. Luckily the room is small (double) so it's not too far away. Badly in need of modernisation, it would work in the 90s but not with premier inns within spitting distance. Bed ok and clean so not end of the world buuuut, no free WiFi? Seriously, it doesn't have to be fast just free. Few plugs in the room, none by bedside and no usb sockets either. No bath. Also noise, as others have noted here, no AC so window must be open in summer and one side had the casino and the other side an NHS testing centre with 24hr generator. So your covid free at least! It's ok but they can't charge the same as premier Inn, the one in the bay is very nice, and even the older one in town, which despite having small TVs, at least has upgraded it's electrics, very comfy beds and a bath, oh and free WiFi. Hurry up travelodge, their building another premier Inn close to the city centre!!!

Great value. Room was a bit hot and fan wasnt great. Comfy bed. Clean and tidy room. Staff very friendly and breakfast food and service was fab.

Good service and comfortable bed as usual, we did not try the food. One very big gripe, why in a 2 person room is there only ever 1 chair. Sitting on the bed is not good for older backs.

Nice place, staff were friendly and the rooms were as expected. Good amount of stuff close by from food to local pubs and shops. Very handy for those who don't mind a walk as Cardiff town centre is about a 20min walk away although there is a train station just across the road and bus stops just as close.

Paid full money a week before . Arrived at 11pm for check in. Room isn’t available!!!!! They says, I have to stay another travelogue. They will arrange taxi. Sat here at reception till 12pm. Still waiting for taxi and arranging things. Not fair!!!!

Usual Travelodge with competitive prices. This one is in a great location for Cardiff Bay and about 15mins walk from Cardiff centre. Benefit of free parking. Staff are very friendly and happy to help, particularly D-J in the restaurant.

Rooms are relatively cheap and you do get that sense. (You get what you pay for) Service is good, but feels there's not much engagement when talking to customers. Locations is great! In the middle of everything! All in all, decent hotel to stay at if you are after a simple roof over your head with loads of local restaurants and bars. 24 hour bar also helps!

  • 5/5 Karen B. 2 years ago on Google
Have stayed here many times , excellent location and Kim on reception is always friendly and helpful. Will be back again for Christmas markets. Highly recommend 🙂

  • 3/5 Brian W. 1 year ago on Google
The breakfast was good, the service cannot be faulted as it was great. The location was good too (got a bit confused with the location as you need to go through barriers to a car park and was worried I would be charged if I had made the wrong turn!!). The only let down was my room (room 321) - visible dust underneath the bed which makes you question the cleanliness of the entire room and some black mould in the shower cubicle. Would I stay again? Probably - harsh to judge a hotel on one of many rooms.

+ Free car park, a clean room, friendly staff, lovely light on bed. - Only one chair in room for two people; 2 big towels, but only one small one; you have to ask for hair dryer; there are 2 electrical sockets next to table only and it's far from bed. A nice hotel for several days.

  • 5/5 Nicola S. 1 year ago on Google
Brilliant location for gigs in Cardiff. Staff very friendly and helpful. 24hr bar also serving food. Had a fabulous pizza 🍕 😋 I thought breakfast was expensive initially £8.99 all you can eat but after having it I thought it was good value, tasty food and plenty of choice to set you up for the day. Free parking in the Dragon Centre is a bonus too. Rooms are adequate for a short stay though main road is quite noisy so had to close the window. Definitely will return.

  • 4/5 Paul T. 2 years ago on Google
A nice budget hotel. The rooms are clean, they do a decent breakfast and the staff are pleasant. There is parking on site and the location is superb. A short walk to the bay, or an even shorter walk to the train taking you into Cardiff.

  • 4/5 Jon T. 1 year ago on Google
Usual Travelodge standard room. Everything worked. Acceptably clean. Breakfast buffet great quality and value for money. Pleased to be back in the Travelodge habit again. Would stay there again. Location great for the Bay, lots of restaurants within walking distance. Parking we found difficult to find. When you find the Red Dragon carpark, ignore the warnings of£100 fines and park near to the Travelodge. When you leave you enter the car registration number in the Travelodge console on the desk and have 20 mins to leave so pack the car first then enter the reg and then leave. Hotel very near the Welsh Parliament building.

Worst service from a manager. Unprofessional, looks very scruffy, no manners, unhelpful. I had an issue with the room cleanliness and hygiene. I raised the issue with a member of staff which when i showed her the pictures, she said she will call the manager . The manager turned up like he just got back from a night out on the lash. His body adore was apparent. When i showed him the pictures of the dirt and stagnant water in the soap dispenser with all the mould in and around the shower. His answer to me was oh yeh we dealing with it. He didn't even apologise. And when I said to him this is dirt that should have been cleaned between each guest. He again replied we dealing with it. I then replied to him good answer and walked away, as obviously he was not interested at all. After noticing the dirt and hygiene standards in the room. I started to pay more attention to the rest of the premises. Food on floor in restaurants. Under tablets and chairs. It was not busy at all. Coffee machine filthy. Cups, i had to move 5 cups before i found 1 that had no marks. Carpet only Hovered in central section of the room not the edges. Please think twice about staying here. I will attach pictures.

Nicely located, with an easy straight walk to the city for concert venues & shopping. Friendly reception staff. It's as you would expect for a Travelodge with basic rooms, but a good bed, clean & well appointed facilities. Good shower with decent pressure & loads of hot water. Free parking but you have to remember to put your car reg into the tablet by reception each time you intend to drive out of the car park, or the barrier won't open. We enjoyed our stay here & would book again without hesitation

Perfect location for the bay (with the added bonus of free parking), and a very short walk/drive or train into the citty. There are plenty of bars and restaurants a very short walk away! Our room was clean, tidy and exactly what we needed for a short break. We slept very well during our stay; the bed was really comfortable. The staff were all very lovely and super helpful! - we’ll definitely be staying here again when we return to Cardiff :)

We stayed in the hotel for 2nights with a child. The location is fab, walking distance from Cardiff Bay, Staff were friendly and parking is free. However, the room was disgusting. The toilet and shower had a vile smell, like sewage and there were spiderwebs in the room. I had to question whether the room had been cleaned given the covid is still around. I would not stay here again.

I've been using this hotel for the last 12 years. Rooms have always been clean and tidy. And service with a smile every time. Ideally located on the edge of the city centre with free onsite parking. Rooms are starting to look a little tired now. But still great value for money.
