Mostly an ok place to stay, but there are false amenities listed. We're asked not to eat in our rooms, however the dining room is locked every time I try. As someone traveling with a food allergy this is a huge huge problem. We're told there is a guest lounge on the first floor, but it is nowhere to be found. Of note, as an ex smoker it was clear to me someone had smoked in the room previously. Also, really gross there are no top sheets on the bed, just a fitted. What bodily fluids am I sharing with previous guests? Absolutely disgusting to think about. My biggest complaint is that my door was knocked on aggressively to check out a day before I was to check out, while I was trying to adjust for jet lag. Absolutely startled from my sleep for no reason. I can't see giving a positive review based on the above. Had the amenities been there and I hadn't been startled from my sleep for no good reason, this would have been at least a 4 star review, you decide.

Very nice clean comfortable place. Only drawback is breakfast is advertised but not available. Even a couple of brioche or croissants would have been better than nothing. At £105 expensive stay .

A generally nice stay, the rooms were semi-spacious and in good condition. The only drawbacks are that 1) there were bedbugs in my bed and 2) the shared bathroom was unclean and overcrowded as you couldn’t get into it 99% of the time Edit: attached are the pictures of the bedbugs for proof

Excellent stay. Good, clean room at great value for price. Comfortable bed and within easy walking distance of Cardiff city centre. Shared shower and loo spotless, clean and fresh at all times and good tea/coffee making facilities. Very grateful to host for allowing me into room ahead of booking-in time after strenuous journey. I would hope to stay here again when visiting Cardiff and surroundings. Only drawback second night was neighbour with TV on full volume all night through. Not the hotel's fault, of course, but a reminder to some that a hotel is shared with others and to please be mindful that not everyone appreciates an involuntary blow-by-blow commentary on the queen's lying in state from 11pm to 5am.

Booked 2 days in this hotel, I was been asked to leave in the first day morning without refunds. They said found cigarettes in the toilet bin and ask £100 penates. I asked my friend, he said he put the cigarettes into the bin but didn’t smoke in the room. I tried to talk with the manager and he is very rude and tried to hold my belongings. He said to us they could smell the smoke in the room, and said if I don’t pay the penates he will call the police. I and my friend didn’t smoke in the room. I ask he to call the police, he said I must pay the money first. I am not sure about we could put the cigarette into the bin or not even we did not smoke in the room,so I paid. I will ask the police about that. In the end when I came out the manager close the door very hard. I don’t think this is worth hotel to book in. Wow,the owner reply with lies. Did you see my friend sleep in the room? He just visited me, and did you see we smoke in the bath room? And could you ask the guy who smell the smoke give a reply? And when did we smoke in the bath room?

I stayed at the Tanes past weekend and it was 100% worth the price we paid and the accommodation and hospitality from staff was perfect. Thank you and when I’m back in Cardiff I will be back

Great hotel, lovely room and even better service. As soon as you walk in the hotel you feel a homely vibe and when i opened my room door i was very impressed with how clean and nice it was. The showers were just so lovely after such a long day and the peace and quiet helped me have such a great sleep. The service was fantastic, there was always someone there to help with a genuinely good attitude. Highly recommend.

Room was nice and reasonably clean. There was quite a bit of dust on top of the closet. Shared shower and toilet where separated from eachother. Despite offering breakfast on the website, there is no breakfast as of April 2023. Which is quite the unfortunate surprise. City centre is about a 20 minute walk away. And there's a few shops closer by. Car park is at the back of the building, through a small alley. But parking is also free in the surrounding streets.

Having had to change my booking due to health issues, the staff and manager were very supportive and could adjust my booking under the circumstances. I would highly recommend Tanes to anyone visiting Cardiff and I will look to stay there the next time I am in town. Thanks.

Clean and warm. Basic but cheap. I found the layout of the place a bit disorientating... Doors leading to other, locked doors. Staircases to nowhere etc Manager was brusque and distracted... It was as if my innocent enquiries to him were disturbing some greater, secret project he was working on. He also appeared seemingly at random in different parts of building at a speed that seemed to defy the laws of physics : often buttoning up his trousers as he did so. The other staff member I encountered was also not very personable. He was the handyman, I think. Again, he gave off a distracted, disturbing vibe when I asked him where reception was. He muttered something indistinguishable and scurried off into the basement shadows, clutching a sack. So, yes. Strange errie vibe but technically totally acceptable for the price.

Absolutely amazing for the price. More than we expected and manager so kind and attentive. Definitely more ban for you buck and not that far from city centre.

5 out of 5 as the hotelier went out of his way to welcome me even though I arrived late. Room was clean, kettle was a nice touch and well stocked. Bed simple, comfortable. Shared shower small but clean with provided toiletries. Sink in room and working TV. My only negative would be a very busy street outside, might be worth sleeping with the window closed. Great value for the price.

I booked a single room here at short notice direct with hotel and was very happy with the price for a few nights stay . Hotel manager / Host met me on arrival and was very polite and easy to talk to. My room was very clean and fresh with a sink , TV , tea and coffee and a comfortable bed, the housekeeping staff were also very nice and chatty and kept the room nice and clean and topped up with tea/coffee etc daily. The toilet and shower area was just outside the room and was also very clean, I honestly couldn't fault this hotel and would certainly recommend to others. There is private car parking for guests however there is ample street parking around the hotel also. The huge town centre is only 0.7 miles from the hotel where there is plenty of places to eat for breakfast/lunch or snacks. I will be making regular visits to Crdiff in the coming months and will certainly be hoping to stay here each time

My mother visited here yesterday. Do not be misled by the images online. Customer service is appalling and no breakfast in the morning as advertised. Rooms are extremely small and upgrade was offered even though the hotel was allegedly full. She was sharing a bathroom with another room and the loo was on a different floor. Asking for information was like talking to a brick wall. Directions to the "hotel" were very unclear and and little to no information was offered on how to get there or where to park. My mother had the worst stay ever and will not be returning to this place.

3 stars is not enough. Last minute booking due to work. Clean and very tastefully and quirkily decorated. I booked a room with private bathroom. I understand some have shared bathroom. Read before you book! Yes rooms could be bigger but for the price you can't complaim .Teapot nice touch. Stayed in a lot lot worse for a lot lot more money. Will definitely be first choice for this area again.

Very nice hotel and looks unique and different. Didn’t feel like I’m staying in a hotel it’s like an old modern house. Feels like home. Had a great time and the staff was really nice and helpful would go back again for Cardiff visits.

Nice welcoming host. On very busy road so noisy all hours. Nicely done up just in need of new shower cubicle and least desk fan for warm nights.

Conveniently located near the bus stop..the rooms could be more reasonably priced though as it's not that near the city centre..but it's still a better option considering the average hotel room prices in Cardiff..
