Stayed here for 2 nights for a little getaway. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very vibrant and modern and cosy with all the necessary amenities required. Parking didn't seem busy at the rear of the establishment but don't know if that would be different at peak times of the year. The bar area and outdoor area was nice and pleasant and the food and drink menu had a good selection. Only downside was the front of the building had scaffolding and work ongoing which we didn't know about but apart from that would definitely stay again.

Wouldn’t recommend We stayed for a few nights. The rooms are right above the pub so are very noisy until we’ll past midnight. Like being above a nightclub not a pub. The pub is meant to close at midnight but the music didn’t stop until after 1am. We went down to ask them to turn it off and where given a rude short response. The staff just had the music on for themselves at that point. Food isn’t good either, multiple breakfast options not available. The food we did get was small portions and over cooked. The location is good close to the city centre and local park.

EDIT IN RESPONSE: Hi Adam, seems like a mistaken identity, I had a terrible meal here with my wife yesterday, and we left on our own accord, after complaining twice. This makes you look even worse. Terrible pub, terrible staff, terrible prices, terrible food. Completely relies on the building and location. Go elsewhere. The Beverley is decent prices and the Cricketers is a decent pub. This place is garbage.

I went here for food with a group of friends, all I can say was thank god I wasn't staying the night! The service was horrendous and so was the food. Over half of the menu was not available and couldn't cater to my friend with a gluten intolerance. The quality of the food was so poor if I didn't have to pay upfront I wouldn't have paid. It was the most greasy burger I've ever had and for the price, was a joke! Will never be going back!

We stayed at the Pontcanna Inn last weekend, and I can not recommend it enough! Perfect location, super friendly staff, really cool interiors and overall great atmosphere. And the best part - we could bring our dog!! We didn't want to leave. And will definitely be back.

We only visited the bar. But we had a good evening and the place was comfortable, not too noisy, good location (near the city, but still quiet) Would've been better if there was more choice of alcohol-free beers - especially in January!

Real shame, place itself is spot on but I’ve just been in there at about 6.30pm watching the six nations and a bouncer has literally just assaulted maybe 6-7 people, knocked them down on the floor and spilt their drinks over themselves for no fault of their own. I was smoking a vape outside, which I admit with hine sight I wasn’t aware I was not supposed to be doing when I was approached by an overly aggressive bouncer. I was not drunk myself, I’m still not (same night) I had had 2 pints as I was driving back and explained that I didn’t realise and hadn’t seen the signage, a person in the group of mine came to explain the situation and was dragged out the back of the pub, knocking the aforementioned people over and dragged into an alley way with no cameras. I immediately followed to insure there was witnesses and also people who were knocked down came over aswell. Luckily nothing was done as I think the bouncer realised what he had done. Why should we have to deal with this? Also happy that this was all on camera. Genuinley gutted, ruined mine and potentially more peoples nights and made me not want to go back to a place I regularly go to at no fault of the establishments but then bouncers…

Had a pre match drink here, it was very full but got seats in garden, very good service, friendly and good atmosphere. Good place to have a drink pre cricket.

Decent venue but I wouldn’t recommend the food really as it’s microwave ready meal standard but quite pricey for that standard. Drink range decent and friendly helpful staff. Decent beer garden out front and to the rear. Highchairs available

Amazing little spot this! Great choice of drinks, and the clients they have here are great, don't feel like there will be a wild west bar fight any time soon. Most of the staff were friendly.. one looked like she had a wasp nest up her skirt.. but guess you always have the odd one which looks like the world is coming to an end. I will be returning, just hope she ain't the table girl for me the next time.

Had a lovely afternoon here today. My dog was as well looked after as I was, with fresh water and some treats brought out for him. Food was also great!

The room we had was perfect. We stayed on Saturday night, great atmosphere. We ate in the restaurant and food was nice. Breakfast in the morning was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend. We are looking to come again and will be booking here.

Had a lovely afternoon/ evening in this neighbourhood pub. Nice welcome by friendly staff and lots of seating options - front garden; hard and soft seating areas inside; and a lovely rear beer garden with awnings and a burger truck. Lots of tvs too for watching sport. The pub had a great vibe with a trendy clientele.

We had a lovely time, staff friendly and helpful. Room comfortable and clean. The bar and dinning area was relaxed and a great atmosphere. We will definitely visit again and recommend.

Great atmosphere for quiz night but I wouldn’t eat again on a quiz night, all the meals were over cooked and very unappetising, shame as very nice pub, great location and friendly staff

  • 3/5 James D. 1 year ago on Google
Nice enough pub but quite a few of the menu items were unavailable - it was midweek so perhaps better stocked at the weekend. Food was ok. Staff friendly.

Great venue and location, attractive building and interior. Our large room was lovely well decorated, very clean and great shower. Good meal on Saturday night and great veggie breakfast on Sunday morning.Really enjoyable stay with friends.. loved it, thanks

The room is very comfortable, spacious and clean, however it’s actually located above the pub/restaurant. So be prepared the noises will continue at least until 23:30 if you choose to stay here. The location is also very nice and handy because it’s very close to the Cardiff Castle. The restaurant downstairs offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and etc. Which is also very handy for travelers as well. Plus the food there is also very good!! I would definitely recommend!!

My team and I (Ă—13 of us) had our Christmas lunch at the Pontcanna Inn. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was delicious and we were not rushed which meant we could sit and enjoy each others company for a while before moving on. All in all, a really pleasant afternoon. A Billy bonus being it's a dog friendly venue so a colleague could bring his sausage dog along to meet the team!

Really impressed with the venue Weren’t too sure what to expect as rooms above pub / restaurant. Large clean rooms with plenty of space and nice decor, not something you would get in a large chain.

Had an overnight stay here on saturday. Couldn;t have been happier, the rooms were amazing, so clean, fab decor, really comfy beds. All the staff we dealt with were so helpful, no complaints at all. Plus the breakfast we had in the morning too was lush, we'll definitely be going back, so lovely to find somewhere different :)

Couldn't give it 5 star because I didn't try their food. But, bar clean and tidy and staff very welcoming. Will go back, especially on a Monday to have a go at the quiz.

Good spot to have a drink and a bite to eat while watching sport out the back. Modest portions and a fairly limited selection from the food van at the back. Ample seating and tables out the back

Stayed a night here recently and loved it. The beds were super comfy (the pillows especially!) and the design of the rooms is so well thought out. I loved all the details! You can tell someone has put a lot of effort in. Would definitely recommend.

Part of the chain of pubs that offer points rewards for visits which is a cool idea. Staff and even the bouncers were pretty friendly. Seems like a lively place for pre drinks

Order on the app. Drinks arrive quickly but food takes a while. Tidy food tho. Good vegan options. Great outdoor space, front and back. Sunday lunch is lush.

Stayed in one of the rooms on a Friday night. We're were warmly welcomed by the staff. The room was well decorated and the bed was really comfy. The next day we had lunch there and our meal was 10/10. Highly recommend the hot wings. Definitely will stay and eat there again when we go back to Cardiff.

Stayed overnight as part of our 30th wedding anniversary celebrations. The staff are fantastically warm, friendly, and helpful. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. Spent the evening in the bar - lively, friendly atmosphere, very laid back. We loved it. Definitely intend to stay again - esp during cricket season!

Absolutely perfect as soon as we arrived! Big thank you to Adam for checking us in, couldnt have been better at his customer service, and by far the best I've experienced. Room was nice and cosy with a comfy bed and a load of cushions. Lovely rain style shower. Didnt have time to get some food/drinks downstairs but will do when we return next!

Nice atmosphere, limited menu, not alot to choose from and quite expensive for the portion size. ÂŁ16 for an 8oz cheap cut of steak, definitely no miller Carter. Mac and cheese with a sprinkle of bacon, so over priced, chicken burger looked the best dish on the table but again ÂŁ12.50. The fish and chips were lovely, freshly battered, very tasty but quite small and served with at best a small/med portion of McDonald's sized fries. Don't get me wrong the fries were very nice but come on for ÂŁ12.50 put a large portion of fries on the plate to bulk it up. Was the food lovely, yes, is it good value, no, as the portions were poor, fine for a small appetite or light lunch. I'd guess that professionals in the area wouldn't mind paying for small amounts of nicely cooked food. Also, 2 on the table were hoping to have a fish finger sandwich and a vegan meatball sandwich but unfortunately they only serve at lunch time, which unfortunately reduces there already limited option menu. Will I eat their again, probably not. So many better places in Cardiff.

Amazing stay at Pontcanna Inn. Walking distance to Cardiff City center, but far enough away for a quiet nights sleep. The room was compact, however, plenty of room for just me, bed was incredibly comfortable, tea tray had everything I needed, and the ensuite was a good size. I enjoyed numerous meals during my stay including roast on Sunday. All in all I highly recommend Pontcanna inn for lodging, drinks and dining!

Lovely meal, great value, quick service, dog friendly. Outside seating which I prefer. However the outside seating was an enclosed courtyard - some seats under cover - and smoking was allowed (dirty ash trays on the tables) That's where the star was lost.

This is a great pub but suffered from queues when we visited, albeit in an international cricket evening. Great choice of beers and lagers, seems to have a good range of wines too.

Great location for a visit to Cardiff, everything walking distance, nice bar and outdoor area with reasonable food, resident parking, rooms spacious and bed comfortable. Definitely recommend đź‘Ś

Booked in advance, including what we wanted to order. Despite this the service was very slow, several orders were wrong, and a child was left without their order for several minutes while everyone else had their food.

Great service, friendly staff. Nice little venue. A lovely pint of thatchers too. The steak pie was arguably one of the best pies I have ever had, the meat was so tender and juicy. It was amazing. The chips just standard fried chips which was a shame, I feel If they used homemade potatoes with there meals it would be a top 10 in Cardiff for food.

Visited for lunch today, food was average but what really let our visit down, was the less than underwhelming 'service' by the 'barman'. Couldn't have seemed less interested if he tried, as if we were an inconvenience ( the place was empty) guessing hospitality is not the job for him. Such a shame, as we've had good service in the past.

Nicely designed room with a good shower and comfortable bed and proper coffee machine. Good range of beers and had an excellent burger and katsu chicken burger. Really convenient for the centre and for the gig we went to at Tramshed (15 min walk). Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good value too.

Another venue let us down for a party of 20+ on a saturday. Manager and staff were able to fit us in even though there was another party booked. Everybody enjoyed their food and there are some fussy eaters with us. Would definately eat there again.
