Great pub indeed I would say exceptional. Good room with a comfortable bed. Very good food either in the restaurant or the bar. But what really takes things to the next level is the fact that this is a real pub with a welcome for everyone and the best range of well kept beers for miles. If you haven't visited, go.

Sausage & Cider Festival 2022 Oh What a Day! Well done Rob & Sam on a truly fantastic family festival. Musically there was something for everyone, the sausages were absolutely delicious and the cider flowed freely. It was wonderful to see so many happy smiling faces, singing, clapping and dancing along to the music. The staff worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone was served quickly and were all warm, friendly and welcoming. Thank you to everyone including the 11 performing acts who worked so hard to to make this event the triumph that it was, my family and I look forward to the next festival.

Had a few pints up here since moving to Taffs Well, always enjoyed our visits but never stayed for food. Came up this past Sunday for a roast, can't believe what we've been missing. Fantastic food, great big helpings and lovely staff. Would highly recommend it based on the food alone, add to that the beautiful building, scenic location and lovely atmosphere and you've got a local pub to be cherished. We'll be back! Only sad that we couldn't add any photos to back up our review - once the food arrived we didn't come up for air until we paid the bill. No time for pictures!

Beautiful pub and lovely place to stay. We stopped there over night on the way home to break up a long drive, and I regret we weren't there longer. Food was amazing, both the evening meal and the following breakfast, and the location is fantastic. We went for a walk up the mountain with the dog and really enjoyed every minute. The rooms are comfortably furnished, the beds are very good, and the bathrooms wonderful. I would heartily recommend.

Fantastic pub in the heart of the village! Incredible food, and as it's dog friendly they even do a dogs dinner for your pooch. Food and bar prices are fair. Often have live music and there's a weekly quiz - even summer festivals. On Sundays they do a Carpark Carvery where you can get a hot roll, roasties and a little pot of gravy to dip them into. Perfect to stop off at after climbing The Garth. Highly recommend!

Nice little pub, only a couple vegetatian/vegan options, but they do offer a 'dog's dinner'. Staff were lovely, food was good. Dogs are allowed inside, book ahead if you don't want to be disappointed.

The food was amazing! Very comfortable setting. A relaxed pub atmosphere downstairs with a really nice dining area upstairs. Would definitely recommend for a meal or just meeting friends and family.

This place is a rare find , decided to look for a pub with good food on trip advisor and the reviews led us here . Lovely cosy pub great atmosphere, very busy and with no reservation we took a chance and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food is lovely, homemade with a great choice , will definitely be returning 😊

Delicious roast dinner on a cold Sunday in January. Good portion of meat and pots with vegetables to share. Desserts were freshly made and tasty too. Service was good and friendly. The only reason for the 4 and not 5* was the venue felt a little 'tired'. We hadn't visited for about 5 years and nothing had changed. Not a major refurb needed by any means just a bit of a clean up. Appreciate that the pub is used by lots of walkers so foot traffic is high.

The Gwaelod is such a great pub (maybe even my favourite in and around Cardiff). I had a bit of a hankering for a Sunday roast last weekend, and I couldn't have been happier with it. Generous portions, wonderfully cooked meat, and all the greedy boy trimmings I could have asked for (crackling, stuffing, a pig in a blanket and a Yorkshire pud). Really great beer selection, too.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night with my mum and we had the fried brie and chicken croquettes, which were some of the best food I've ever had! My steak and ale pie came with incredible puff pastry and mum loved her boiled ham. We shared a delicious bottle of red and a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The ambience in there is really relaxed and cosy. The best thing is definitely the amazing service across the board. In fact, when our taxi didn't turn up to take us home, the manager arranged for one of the barmen to finish early and take us in his own car! We were so grateful! Would definitely recommend any time of the year, just plan a good way to get home or book a taxi in advance. They get super busy every night so a booking is a good idea too.

Went to try here the other week but missed food service by minutes so went back today, so glad we did, lovely place, fantastic service, lovely staff and absolutely fantastic food, been trying different places to tick off the list and this one is definitely knocking around the top of the list and we will most certainly be paying plenty more visits. Highly recommend the lamb and the fish and chips portions were fantastic.

Absolutely lovely meal and service. Really great vibe, dog friendly outside and in the bar area and super delicious food. Our waiter was great and really helpful. Clear gluten free options and good knowledge of coeliac disease - felt safe and looked after. I had the gluten free fish and chips which was such great quality and the crème brulé which was delicious. Really enjoyable meal - we will definitely be back.

Great menu, reasonably priced, delicious food served promptly. Great atmosphere in the bar. Best fish pie I've ever eaten. This place never disappoints.

This is a beautiful inn with fabulous rooms and amazing hospitality! We stayed for one night to get away from the city and felt cared for and rested. The rooms are very cosy and clean and the breakfast was exceptional. This place is definitely worth visiting! Thanks to all the team for a lovely stay 💕

We had a dog friendly room and it was lovely. Slight drawback was the the window was facing the carpark. Otherwise fantastic. Staff were VERY friendly and helpful. Breakfast room is not dog friendly (too close to kitchen) but dogs are very welcome for evening meals in the main pub area. Dinner menu very good and the quality was excellent. There is a lovely woodland walk that starts about 20 yards up Garth Hill. Also fairly easy walking access across the river to Taff's Well. The route takes you down a steeply sloping switchback path. The public footpath starts about 40 yards downhill from the front of the Inn.

I was visiting from Chicago and was recommended here by a Welsh friend of mine. Everything was perfect! The environment was charming and the servers were helpful. The lamb I had was perfectly cooked and tasted very fresh. Definitely a local hidden gem.

A real country pub with super helpful and friendly staff. Great atmosphere where all are welcome, and plenty to choose from at the bar. Check-in was really efficient. I didn't realise there was a comedy night until arrival, and what a great night it was! The rooms are clean and spacious, especially for such an old inn, and the bed was really comfortable. The food was amazing with a choice of eating in the bar or restaurant area, and the service was outstanding. Looking forward to a return visit soon! Definitely highly recommend A+ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We eat at this pub quite often and I feel I just have to leave a review. The food is outstanding - we try a different meal every time we go and the quality is always the same. Excellent. Served, quickly by professional, friendly and helpful staff. I highly recommend a trip to this pub, well worth it.

Utter perfection! Felt cared for in a beautifully presented environment! My partner and I had a one night stay and we couldn't have asked for better. On arrival the young lady at the bar and the woman who checked us in were both exceptionally helpful. The room was lovely with the perfect size and temperature but for me it was the fabulous bathroom that sealed the deal! Everything was done with wonderful professionalism and the little touches (proper milk with the tea/coffee things) went a long way to cementing our view that the place was just wonderful. Dinner in their restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced, I'm only sorry that we were too tired to venture down to the pub for a drink because I would have very much liked to. Thank you once again to all the staff who helped us during our stay. This property is a lovely place and for the location (20 mins from central Cardiff) you couldn't ask for better!

Though a little on the pricier side but worth every penny. Best Sunday roast we have had good for veggies and meat eaters. Puddings we're banging. The dog loved its "dogs dinner". Quiet atmosphere easy to talk and hear each other inside. Lots of seating outside

Came here for a meal. Came early to have a drink at the bar first. Plenty of seating outside, which was nice. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere, with everyone seeming to have a nice time. The pub has a nice selection of beer. Bar staff really friendly. The evening dining upstairs was a great experience. Staff were super attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much for them. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be returning as we all really enjoyed.

Lovely place, but very busy. We called on the hop on a Sunday lunchtime, but were slotted in without a fuss or problem. Very friendly and helpful staff and the meal was OK, but a bit overpriced for the quantity served. I'd happily go back, but at a less busy time to get the full flavour if the place.

Lovely place. Lovely food. Nice beer. Only slight let down was the espresso (beans not ground fine enough so very under extracted). Would definitely come here for food again, though.

A lovely old Inn perched atop a beautiful hill. The lamb shank was delicious, and the only potential negative is that you have to drive some very narrow, steep and windy roads, and it can be quite hard to get parking. If you've got the energy, I'd highly recommend getting the train into Taff's Well and walking up to it.

Absolutely brilliant - the great craft ales, the lovely food, the friendly staff all meant that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We stayed three nights and will definitely be back for more. It's a destination all on its own!

Climbed the hill then delighted ourselves with some superb food. Phenomenal starters, stellar mains, felt full.. but couldn’t resist ordering pudding as we knew we’d regret it if we didn’t! Happy boyfriend, happy dog (who was also served yummy sausages with dog-safe gravy and given lots of treats / cuddles. Highly recommend :)

We made a last minute decision to come here while visiting nearby. There was a buzz about the place before you opened the door. The Manageress greeted us with smiles and we were quickly made to feel welcome. The staff are a special bunch, helpful, attentive and have ready smiles. The Boss has a strong sense of the community and brings people together with music, cider and quizzes and sources from local producers He knows where his stuff comes from. I remember the laughter! Great to hear in these grim times. We really enjoyed our food.Probably a little price however the whole experience was worth every penny. Didn’t stay so can’t comment but if you want good food, friendly service and, a local pub with soul…. Go Sorry didn’t stay!

Stunning country style pub at the base of the Garth, so is ideally situated for walk and food/drinks afterwards. The Sunday roast is very popular and needs to be booked a couple of weeks in advance. Managed to get a seat and a hot roast roll (beef, lamb or turkey available) served with roast potatoes, pug in blanket and stuffing with a small jug of gravy. Stunning!!! Awesome place with lovely views during the summer from a good sized beer garden out the front. Couldn't recommend enough!

The food was lovely, we had a work Christmas lunch and ordered from the normal menu. We did have trouble parking, there were 7 of us and we all had separate cars. The car park was full when we got there, a couple of us managed to squeeze in but the rest had to go back down to the road and had to park some distance away. Luckily no one had accessibility issues.

Visited here for lunch seated upstairs - lovely views and traditional decor. Ordered salmon with laverbread & cockle cream sauce - delicious. Cooked to perfection! Prices reasonable for the quality of food and atmosphere.

Lovely meal. Service very good. Table 16 nice . Only downside was that the table water was colder than the bottle of wine. Overall though really enjoyed it and would definitely go again.

I can only begin this review by saying the accommodation, hospitality, and venue is so good that we are thinking about giving up our deposit to have our wedding here. Rob and the team are incredible, the beer is some of the best in the region, and food is world class. If you’re looking for a world class pub and authentic Welsh experience you must visit the Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn!

Had given 4 stars but now upgraded to 5. A friendly, cozy pub with excellent service and delicious food served in the restaurant with some vegan+ vegetarian choices too. Great choice of beers on the bar what more can you want. Great pub

Probably the nicest place we've been to around here! A proper village pub. Even though it was busy, we didn't have to wait long for our food which was absolutely delicious and piping hot! Our dog Rosie, enjoyed her "dogs dinner" and a staff member even brought a water bowl and treats for her! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Will most definitely be back! Thank you to the lovely staff at the Gwaelod Y Garth 😀 ❤

Took the visiting family for lunch and we all loved it. We had battered fish, pork belly and pie. Pork belly was soft with a thin layer of fat. Don't normally order the dish as it is difficult to get it right., but they did and we loved it. I will definitely come back for more. Crème Brûlée was delicious and perfectly made. Customer service was prompt and attentive. Additional note: try the exclusive craft beer. Recommended.

Another delicious meal in this cozy location. I'm in Wales every year or two to visit family and a stop here is mandatory. Every starter and meal I've ever had here has been perfect. We also tried their takeaway Sunday dinner and it was brilliant! Everyone got their choice of main, and the sides were all perfectly done. The price was so reasonable too.
