This castle is well worth a visit. From the outside we thought it was going to be small but going in you realise just how much there is to see. Plenty of castle to walk around and great views at the top. So much castle for your money and worth a visit. Spent about 2 hours here, loved it.

Fantastic Welsh border castle ruined after the end of the Civil War. Some interesting architectural remains from its time as a manor house as well as a castle. Well stocked little shop, toilets on site. Plenty of towers to climb, walls to clamber around fantastic views over the Black Mountains from the top of the main keep. Plenty for history buffs and passing tourists alike.

Great experience. One of Wales great castles. So much to see and do. I'd highly recommend a visit. Staff were great, good facilities. Helped that we went on a stunning day as well mind you. Only downside is that it was quite muddy in places where there were bottlenecks and the car park was too. I'd imagine after a bit of rain it would be pretty bad.

Fantastic large ruined castle . Lots of stairs to climb towers, tunnels to walk through. One of the towers is moated and very photogenic. Great views from the top of the tower too.

A little creepy but his place is amazing. Walking around the interior and reading the numerous and extensive interior signs is so informative and gives you an idea of life in the castle. Coolest thing is looking up at the walls and you see fireplaces still in the masonry walls even though the floors have long disappeared. If you can make it up the 90 narrow steps definitely go up to the tower to see the view that the castle guards had. Gift shop has some interesting items and staff is friendly. Highly recommended.

Had a great afternoon wandering around the castle. I took about 100 pictures. I went up two of the towers and the different levels around the castle. I would like to come again when the school children are back in school. Very hard trying to take photographs without people in them.

A fantastic medieval castle with Tudor alterations. There could arguably be a few more safety precautions but the castle is well worth a visit even if just for the view available from the top of the great tower! Be mindful of the pigeon nesting on the staircase though...

Beautiful spot in wales with a lovely view of the countryside from the castle. It’s about £24 for three people to enter so it’s not the cheapest attraction to visit but it’s beautifully maintained and quite a spectacular building. Really loved I could bring my dog (except on the winding staircases) Wish we can just carried our child instead of using a pram.

Lovely place, mostly ruins but able to climb up a few towers, beautiful views. Information all over the castle to read. There were things going on ie. People dressed up in old styled clothes in tents giving an idea of how life once was. Toilets, gift shop, was a man selling hot food which was tasty. Allowed dogs too which was great.

Fascinating castle where the signs of its usage over centuries are visible. Great place to explore and fantastic views from the top.

Absolutely fantastic! Lots to explore, but not too much to overwhelm the little folk. Lovely views from the top. Pack a picnic because there is a nice hidden grass area around the back to relax.

We went on a beautiful day this time, but I'd been many times before and it's always a fascinating and lovely place. Enchanted this time by the many swifts and swallows that form some of the current residents. Well worth a visit, as this is one of the more important castles in the area, and is still an imposing sight.

Our family really enjoyed visiting Raglan Castle last Sunday. It's nice that you can take your dog with you. Obviously, dog need to stay on a lead, and you can't go up the stairs for safety reasons, but you can swap with a family member. So nice. And beautiful views. I recommend it.

Always pop in here on a nice day. Easy to get to on the Abergavenny road can't miss it on the hill as you pass. It has got some nice features and excellent views of the Welsh mountains from the battlements. Is quite kid friendly with accessible areas just keep an eye on them near the moat. Otherwise plenty of open space around the castle to enjoy.

Fantastic place for a day out. For the price of the ticket you get an amazing value. We went there on a Sunday and there was hardly anyone there so we were free to enjoy the beauty of the castle without any crowds. definitely recommend climbing the grand staircase because of the amazing view at the top Very beautiful and and inexpensive way to experience Welsh culture!!!

Beautiful castle! If you are able, try to climb the two towers for nice views of the surrounding fields. 🏰

Lovely castle that is a 2 minute detour from our journey. Great place to stop off and stretch your legs for a bit. Dog friendly, so he got a nice stroll around as well. Must be kept on lead at all times though. Bathrooms there, no snacks though other than what the gift shop sells. Somewhat accessible for wheelchairs, but some bits totally not due to it being a ruins. Stopped here before a few years back and would stop again, bit pricey for entry though in my opinion.

Great castle, so much to see and amazing views from the top of the tower. Interesting history and some lovely if ruined architecture. Great for kids, and big kids

Good day out if it is dry as most of it is open. We went on a very rainy day and it was really quiet so it felt like we had the castle to ourselves which was nice. It's a little bit pricey. The history of the caslte is actually very interesting. The staff is lovely.

amazing!!!! easy to find, ample parking and £16 for both of us to get in; lots of benches with lovely views, clean toilets and a lovely little shop; and the castle is EPIC!!! we spent 3 hours wandering around, going down passages and climbing up towers exploring once of the best castles I've ever been to!

A last minute find and we were very happy with this find! We were greeted by a beautiful cat when we arrived. The gentleman behind the till was welcoming. We enjoyed exploring the castle, lots of things to explore. It had been a rainy weekend so was slippery in some parts so good footwear a must. Saw people with dogs so safe to assume a dog friendly venue. Toilets available and a reasonably priced gift shop.

This is such an amazing, beautiful castle, with most of it it tact. If you love history and architecture, then Raglan Castle is the perfect place, but with beauty thrown in. There are such stunning views from the top of the castle all around with wildlife thrown in. There are nests of swifts in the grounds. Its truly beautiful. Raglan Castle has a beautiful gift shop where you can also buy drinks and snacks. They also have easily accessible toilets on the grounds. They also have a big car park so you shouldn't need to worry about parking. The prices to enter the castle were pretty good and affordable for families. All in all, it's a great day out. You won't be disappointed. It's one of the best castles I have seen.

This is the childhood home of Henry VIII and is in a pretty good state of preservation. I went here on a family day out to spend time with my eldest daughter, who lives in Wales now. So the usual ensued with the kids going around fairly rapidly, eventually catching up with me trapesing around like a kid in a candy store snapping photos and enjoying the architecture. So after being made to buy them some posh coffee, I took them up a small Welsh mountain for a short walk.

Staff very friendly. It was drizzling and they let us borrow an umbrella. We bought the family pack so we were able to vist a good number of castles.

It was very interesting and lovely to go back in time. It would have been nice to have seen some soldiers in their uniforms or servants in the kitchen area so you could get a feel of how things were in those days. Also some narration , sounds and smells. This would enable your imagination to run wild. There was no lighting when going down underground, a bit spooky. Especially as the ground was wet and slippery. I can understand that some things are not possible due to being exposed to the elements. In essence, this is a great place to explore and free to English heritage members on producing your membership card. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it gave me an insight as to how the other half lived. Well worth a visit. Car parking is free. Take care, pot holes look quite deep on the grassed area near the reception entrance, fills with water following rainfall. The paths throughout the castle are cobbled and very slippery in wet weather. Enjoy.

Highly atmospheric ruins of a late medieval castle in the Monmouthshire countryside. Easy access off the A40 and free car parking on site. Extensive ruins so plenty of rooms, towers and moat to explore, plus nice walk around the ground. Shop and toilets but no food unless there's an event on, so take a picnic. Usual high standard of CADW information. £8.50 for adults.

Great castle and pretty quiet in the morning (even for a hot weekend when they had an event on). Didn't use the audio guides but wish we had now as the information on the map and signs dotted around wasn't much to go off. Very dog friendly and could access most of it with the dog - just one or two spiral staircases he couldn't go up so we did those bits one by one. Not much in the way of food unless there's an event on. We had a good time but don't feel the need to come back any time soon, done it now 😀

Great stunning castle with amazing views when you reach the top of the towers! Great for taking photos. Will probably only take you an hour or two to walk round And we were lucky enough to meet a cat near the shop on the way out 😍

Had a lovely time here, spent a solid hour on our way back from a rainy trip to Wales. Ample parking at the castle and a decent little gift shop complement the experience. A castle rich in history, with plenty to explore and look at.

Very cool place! This is a must see! The best castle we visited in southern/mid Wales/England. You can explore a lot of the castle and even go all the way to the top of the original guard tower.

  • 5/5 Ellie B. 11 months ago on Google
It was a scenic place on a sunny day. We were able to bring our dog in to walk around with us, which was one of the reasons we chose to stop. There were no issues with that. There were only a few sections we couldn't take the dog in, but this wasn't an issue when one of us could hold the dog while the other looked.

Cannot rate this castle highly enough. It is so impressive and so much of it left. Came here on a whim as a pitstop on way home from Wales. So glad we did. Spent a good 3 hours here and could have spent longer. It's one of the best I've been to. So much to see and walk round. If you get a chance to visit here I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Beautiful castle, alot of it still remains. We were fortunate to be there, when there was a Tudor murder mystery weekend, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and even found the murderer! A really great place to visit.

Lovely castle and would recommend. It'd quite extensive and you able to move around the property freely. Move of a medieval residence and interesting to see the small differences between that and a castle. Feel they could have a bit more information and knowledge up about the developments of the area, site etc.

I have a bit of an obsession with exploring old castles so when looking for one in the area, I found Raglan online. It seemed to be in great repair and the cost to visit was much lower than expected (we paid £8.30 each). I booked it online, but it seems thus wasn't really necessary on the day we went as people were also just turning up and buying tickets. Thre was ample free parking and the castle itself was huge and immensely impressive. Lots to see and explore and the views were stunning. The Great Tower was closed, thanks to a swarm of bees who made it their home, but that detracted from nothing. Would definitely recommend!
