Booked this heritage railway for my little one who loves trains. The carriage in 1st class is so nice, a huge dining table with lots of space. I felt the tickets were pricey for a train that goes up and down one track. Felt a little underwhelming especially as it was my first time on an old train and I was expecting a scenic journey. I appreciate the heritage side of it, and it was interesting seeing them refill coal and see all the working parts of an old train. A short journey in itself but if you love trains it’s a nice day out.

Good hour out with the family. Combined it with a visit to Big Pit on the same day. Little bit pricey for what it was but it was a nostalgic experience and the crew were great, allowing both my sons into the drivers part of the locomotive. Overall a nice experience.

Fantastic day out, all of the volunteers were so friendly and knowledgable. It was lovely hearing people talk so passionately about their job. We expected to only be here for a couple of hours and ended up spending the whole day, with a very informative guided tour of the engine sheds and surrounding buildings, after doing the train journey. The restoration work these people are doing is amazing. Thank you to all the lovely people that make this place so special.

We went on a normal day so no costumes but still a lovely trip in smashing weather. Good photo ops. Nice shop and cafe. Good video displays in cafe showing the history of the line and some of the rolling stock and buildings. We did overhear one of the workers commenting they need more volunteers to run it so if anyone is local enough, consider piling in!

We took my dad here for his 80th birthday and he had an hour experience with the driver on the engine. Whilst he did that we sat on the train for the hour enjoying the experience of being on a little bit of history. Not only were the staff /volunteers helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about steam trains but the toot toot of the train whistle and the chugg chugg of the engine powering you along were both pretty awesome. From the train you can easily get to big pit if you are looking for other things to do. Brilliant experience and I would recommend it for anyone.

I went for the Heritage Railway Experience at the railway today and thought it was just a completely brilliant day out. One round trip on the footplate with the driver and crew and another round trip with the guard. A really great day with some great people. Thoroughly recommended, even for those who aren't diehard railway enthusiasts.

Halloween Ghost Train…..We stumbled across this purely by chance! What an incredible find! We absolutely loved it. The costumes were awesome. Thank you so much. We’ll definitely see you again next year 👻💀

Delightful ride on steam train run by volunteers. Plenty of parking, small shop & cafe on site. Not a long journey but very enjoyable. Reasonably priced - best to buy tickets in advance. Wouldn’t bother with first class - standard is far more comfy!

We purchased three tickets for this experience, as we live locally we had a discounted ticket however we felt as a sole trip it wasn’t enough for us as a family. It would be great if perhaps there was another string to the bow to make this a more entertaining experience for all of the family. Perhaps a play area for the kids with a nice picnic area. The train ride was great nonetheless, the staff were great and the carriages and train were well looked after. We would revisit if we combined our ticket with the Big Pitt.

Blue skies over Blaenavon! Great to see Furness Railway's number 20 on its visit to the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway. It's always a great place to visit, but this little locomotive made the visit extra special!
