Great opportunity to see these beautiful creatures up close and learn more about them from knowledgeable volunteers! Met a stunning barn owl named Summer out of her cage and was in awe of the plumage and inquisitive personality she had. There are so many varieties of owls (barn, euro eagle, snowy, tawny, screech, great grey) and other birds of prey like red tail hawks and buzzards to see. We came at feeding time and interesting to see how they eat their food whole and display as natural as possible behaviors they would in the wild. Also, great to hear all of the different sounds each one made up close. Sadly, we heard how one falcon was left in a box outside their facility and great to see how they took it under their wing 🦅 and have a chance to thrive. Very peaceful surroundings and friendly staff top off this must visit organization. When we visited on Friday they were open until 2pm. Unfortunately Festival Park is closed for an indeterminate time where visitors had more ample parking and use toilets so people should be aware that this limits certain services and plan accordingly and above all, be mindful that the owl sanctuary is doing the best they can given the circumstances on top of offering free entry and run by volunteers! Consider making a generous donation like we did and help this worthy cause and improve the lives and facilities of this gem 🦉❤️

Visited today and what an amazing job these volunteers do. The owl sanctuary is a must visit for families and adults alike. The sanctuary rescues and cares for a multitude of Owls and Birds of Prey with a truly committed group of staff. If you are in the area, drop in and see for yourself, entry is free and donations are welcome and go to the running, upkeep and feeding of the rescued birds. Happy to visit and support 5 Stars

What a fantastic place this is. We thought there would only be a handful of birds but there is currently well over 40-50 birds. Phoenix the Steppe Eagle was a personal favourite, a very active bird. We was able to stroke some of the new younger owls 🦉 and the lady we spoke to was very informative and I have found the staff to be wonderful, considering reading other people's reviews. It is free but it is worth any form of donation you can give. If it was a £5 or £10 entry fee I would not complain.

Park the car park at the festival shopping centre. Walk towards the shopping centre past the red dragon down down the hill. Worth a visit if you like birds. Some majestic birds are here and the staff are eager to educate you on them. The staff can be a little obtrusive if you just want to stroll at your own pace. Some of the bird aviaries are a bit in need of a make over, you can help by leaving a donation though. Overall a pleasant enough experience.

Great birds and educational. Friendly staff. Gift shop also located within the sanctuary. I'd recommend locals and visitors to support this venture more by donating where you can and giving it the publicity it deserves.

Sadly the place was closed despite the website saying it is open. The area was a ghost town, the whole place seemed lifeless. Road leading up was also closed, no one was around. Pity as we were excited to see the sanctuary and it was unfortunately a wasted a trip.

Passionate staff & owners, whose hearts & efforts are in the right place, helping & rescuing these beautiful & beguiling birds. Visited on the offchance. It's hidden on a hillside, below what was Festival Park shopping area. Car parking is limited, and the access road is fun, in a narrow & twisting way....... These birds are kept in enclosures where you can get fairly close & observe them. Many different species of owls & falcons, from large to quite small, but all well looked after. This place really needs everyone's support, and donations are the only regular funding it receives. Please visit, chat with the informative staff, and take a little time to see & listen to what great work they do. The sanctuary & it's residents need our help & support, so take an hour to see & experience something quite unique & local. Let's keep it running & continuing to aid our feathered friends. Unmissable. 10/10.

Real dedication from all the staff giving these birds a second chance and the best care. The birds are alert and interested in you as you past. We even got a few to reply to our calls.

What an amazing place, walk down from the shopping centre to a secluded little wooded area. Straight away the birds impress and there is a really nice variation of birds here, especially liked the eagle owls. Contiune in to a raised area that has a display area for the birds and on to another area with yet more birds. Staff was brillaint, very friendly, informative and helpfull. Brought out a barn owl to the viewing area and although we could not touch due to covid it was nice to be up close with these amazing birds, two were already out. Will definetly go back and help support this amazing place.

This is free and relies on donations with friendly volunteers who clearly showed their love of the owls (and tortoise and bearded dragon!) and happily shared their knowledge . My 88 year old mother, in a wheelchair (wheelchair accessible), had a most enjoyable hour stroking a a couple of owls, holding a tortoise and a bearded dragon. A little out the way, but worth the visit. Sadly no toilet facilities but we were guided to a convenient restaurant a mile or so away. A pleasant outing.

An absolute gem of a place. Wonderfully kind people. Great chance to see and experience several birds of prey, especially if you have kids. Unbelievably it is free to visit so please don't forget to donate generously.

Free of entry owl sanctuary with many beautiful birds to see. The staff are lovely and enthusiastic. If you are nearby, I would recommend to pay them a visit.

While not a large place, it's obvious how much love goes into looking after these rescued birds. The people who run it and the volunteers are very happy to talk to you about the birds. Free to go in this place relys on donations from the people who visit. The amount is completely up to you. No toilets but plenty of places such as supermarkets to pop into nearby before you visit. If you want to take something to eat, you're welcome, but no food is available to buy at the sanctuary. It is a quirky place and one which is well worth a visit.

Volunteers are very friendly and will chat to you about the birds. When we had visited, we were just in time to watch feeding time. One of the staff was telling us about her raising some of the birds since they were chicks. If you're travelling by car, the Festival Park car park is shut, so you have to go past the fishing lakes and park on the hill. The entrance is just on the corner.

Beautiful, amazing birds. Staff are wonderful and so friendly. The little gift shop is so quaint! They welcome volunteers and desperately need donations. I wish I could have donated more.

Well looked after, gorgeous birds. Owners/staff really knowledgeable and took time to answer all our questions. My 9 year old loved it here.

Visited a few weeks ago...its in desperate need of funding/repairs/remodelling. Volunteers were all sat at a picnic bench smoking and eating, felt unapproachable. A tortoise in a very small crate with no bottom on the concrete floor, the averies felt small and some birds on their own. It felt very sad. I asked how they are exercised, to which the lady said they don't need exercising. So most are alone and never get to fly. A lot of the averies have netting over the front so you can't see inside. Not really sure how this place meets any kind of standards for quality of life.

I went with my 1 year old baby in a sling carrier. Despite the cold wet weather we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I parked by the lake and walked up but you can drive right up. Not buggy friendly but that’s ok. The birds are all very healthy looking and some were hooting which my boy loved, and the owls seemed to enjoy our company. We left a good donation to help keep the place running. Staff were friendly. I highly recommend it and will return in the summer.

Lovely and friendly volunteers. Helping provide a sanctuary for rescued birds. A must go if you're in the area. They also have a a tortoise called Speedy.

Absolutely blown away!! What a beautifully tucked away piece of bird heaven.. the staff are so friendly and welcoming.. they have such a great set up and a good variety of birds which are looked after expertly. Volunteers are super friendly too. All in all can't wait to go again, my son loved it (2yrs old) and they couldn't do enough for him. If you want something to do in an afternoon with the kids or want to see wildlife you'd never normally get to see go there!

Visited here for the first time after going around and around trying to find the place. No clear signs anywhere. We Didn’t find the staff welcoming at all just constant stares and made us feel on edge Wouldn’t let my daughter hold the turquoise but ive seen children younger than her do so. Just said no she’s too young she can just go in and see it. Wouldn’t show us any of the other owls, just one. A can’t be arsed attitude from them all. Cages were dirty and smelly. Would not return here free or not.

A variety of orphan owls, lovingly taken care of, from all over the world. The staff are very caring and motivated. Children can hold certain owls. They rely on donations, so please put something in the collection box.

Getting this close to such beautiful birds is an amazing experience, staff encourage safe interaction with some of the residents and have a wealth of knowledge on bird behaviors and them as individuals. This sanctuary runs on donations so please dig deep when you visit

Although it was difficult to get to, (due to the Satnav taking you to the closed festival shopping centre and it not being clear how to get there from the festival shopping centre) when we eventually found it we thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

Visited today with my two little ones and the staff were very approachable. They went above and beyond to talk to us and made my children feel comfortable around the Owls. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you, we shall definitely be back.

Giving a one star review purely for the ridiculous policy of closing the toilet facilities for public use. Staff citing COVID-19 as the reason. This isn’t a rule and clearly the staff are just using this as an excuse. Telling my 10 year old daughter she could not use the facilities, forcing her to squat in an open space is absolutely disgraceful.

My daughter and I had a great time, the staff and voulenteers were extremely friendly and nymy daughter had her photo taken with a few of the owls and a bearded dragon which she loved. It's amazing that it's free!!
