Nice castle with good views to the surrounding area. Good selection of rooms to visit. The gardens were nice to walk around and the watermill was very interesting. It was quiet and peaceful. Some steep paths and steps. We were there for around 4 hours.

Beautiful!! We have never been to Dunster or the castle before and absolutely loved it. It was a beautiful day, there was so much to see and explore and it was so well looked after. Didn't manage inside the castle but as national trust members we can use our cards to go back again and see inside. So recommend visiting.

Beautiful gardens, well planted on a very steep plot, surrounding the castle. Castle is well worth a visit inside (the great views, 'modern' kitchen & leather room are highlights) and the village is lovely too. Quite a steep walk from the carpark up to the castle, they helpfully provide a courtesy electric van for those with mobility problems, with wheelchair lift.

Beautiful grounds and gardens! Lots to see and do but be prepared for lots of hills and walking.. cause there is lots of it! They do operate a free shuttle bus from the entry point to the castle if you cant manage the hills which is a nice feature. As for the buildings and heritage around the grounds.. there is so much about from the castle itself to the old working watermill they occasionally operate to demonstrate it in use. This is a good day out for all and highly recommended

A must visit. The castle is absolutely stunning. So much to see and do Inside. There are some very knowledgeable volunteers who are more than happy to answer your questions and give you more information about the house. The watermill is fascinating and well worth the walk down to see it. The gardens are nice but the views are what really appealed to me. We arrived at 10 and left at 2pm. We got there early and there was plenty of parking but by the time we left it was quite busy. There is a buggy to take anyone who needs help to the house and the watermill. It is extremely steep and there are not a huge amount of wheelchair friendly paths

A hidden treasure, Dunster Castle and Watermill, managed by the National Trust, offers a perfect blend of history and natural beauty. A must-visit destination with stunning architecture and breathtaking landscapes. I was fascinated from start to finish😀

Absolutely superb National Trust property with a long and fascinating history. Thoroughly enjoyed both the historic buildings and the beautiful grounds/gardens. The story comes through loud and clear and the way you access so much of the castle/house means you naturally absorb how it was used over the years.

Great place to visit with lots of grounds to walk around, multiple coffee shops, a working watermill and the castle. The castle is up a pretty steep slope, which if you have mobility issues could be a challenge but they do have a shuttle service and mobility scooters available. There are a lot of rooms open to see in the castle and the staff are really helpful. Dog friendly and a great day out.

Unfortunately it was a very overcast and wet day when we decided to visit, but don’t let this out you off you can still enjoy looking around inside the castle when the weather is bad! The place has an interesting history and it was good to learn how it had been modified over the years. We will definitely be visiting again when the weather is a bit better, so that we can explore the grounds and other interesting features outside.

What an absolutely gorgeous castle, even though the weather wasn't fantastic, it was still a really beautiful castle, full of interesting history and surrounded by beautiful grounds. You can wander round the castle and there are tour guides telling you about that area of the castle. There are videos that you can watch, stories you can listen to or read about the castle and its background. The gardens were beautiful, even in the damp weather. I can imagine in summer, it will be even more fantastic. Dunster Castle is set in the cutest village as well. Lots of quaint little shops in the village and lots of coffee shops (and gorgeous cake). I was really taken back by how beautiful Dunster was. I would definitely go back. We went when the candlelight festival was on in the evening. That was a fantastic atmosphere and I was surprised how many people were there to watch the procession. People were dressed up in medieval clothing and knights went through the village, there was entertainment for the kids too. A really magical atmosphere.

Had an amazing day out here today. Beautiful castle, wonderful gardens and such a pretty river flowing through the grounds. Really well kept and so peaceful. Great photo opportunities with such beautiful panoramic views. As always National Trust hospitality surpassed our expectations with a gorgeous lunch in the Mill Tea room. Feta, tomato and basil bruscetta was absolutely delicious. Great day out.

Brilliant place to visit. Walk through the rooms to enjoy the history and the fabulous views. The staff are friendly and approachable. Nice tea room. The watermill talk very interesting. Beautiful grounds to walk round rather steep but that's to be expected.

Lovely place to visit, exceptional grounds and fantastic castle. Staff very informative. The water mill was fantastic to visit, still in use to. Plants and flowers in grounds are amazing, and the history behind how the come to be there is interesting. Take the time to speak to the staff and they will enlighten you with plenty of information, more than what is in the booklets

Had a great trip to Dunster castle. although the carpark was a little busy it was not too busy on site. As National Trust members it was all free, would recommend everyone to join. Really helpful guide at the front reception desk who gave us the best route for mobility impaired. Went also to the new cafe at the mill, great food. Highly recommended a visit.

Love this place and will definitely go back. Ideal for buggies and pushchairs and a romper mobility scooter as some paths are steep although even. Inside house is not so accessible but do able with small children/ infants, less so for wheelchairs. Worthy of a few hours wandering the grounds or picnicking and dog friendly for the most part. Plenty of tea rooms and drinks and snacks also and the pass allows you to explore Dunster village itself also so well worth a day trip.

Absolutely loved this place. It's beautiful, and the gardens are gorgeous. Love the fact that people live within the walls of the castle. You might struggle if you're not fully able, as the access into the castle at one point is really steep.

One of my favourite National Trust venues so far! The castle/house has a good number of rooms available to view and the gardens and watermill are a bonus. Good parking and toilet facilities although no food served, just hot drinks and cakes. However there are multiple cafes and pubs in the high street.

A lovely castle which was converted into a large home during Victorian times. Beautiful gardens, an interesting home and the usual standard of National Trust café and shop. The house has been set up so that you can sit in the chairs, touch some of the artefacts and even sound the dinner gong.

Great castle full of hidden treasures. Ample car park a short walk away. Loads of goodies in the NT shop as you would expect. The rooms show a history of the castle and the people who lived there. Also excellent views out over the Bristol Channel to Wales. I especially liked the leather pictures.

Great views across the local area and seemingly great care given to the upkeep of the gardens which looked stunning in places. Parking at the castle led to a quick explore of Dunster too. Can thoroughly recommend looking out for the courtyard tearoom just up the high street from the castle.

Love this place. Great gardens and walk to the watermill. Lovely house with well presented rooms. Excellent views from the rooms. Only downside is that the village is not what it once was, all feels a bit shabby now. Needs a two tidy up. But the village is nothing to do with the castle.

Visited just after 10am Sunday morning, there was no queue to enter. It was quite quiet throughout our visit. Prices for non-members were £16 per adult. Thoroughly enjoyed walking round the castle grounds and exploring inside. The volunteers were very helpful, informative and willing to point out features in each area. There are some beautiful views available from various windows and gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed the water mill and had the process fully explained to us by the knowledgeable volunteer Gail. No question stumped her! Even as adults we enjoyed the interactive exhibits (flour milling and robin spotting). We also enjoyed the dragon in the garden and the children’s woodland activity course (you’re never too old!!).

Fantastic for a day out with family. Staff was very friendly and engaging with the visitors - telling all different interesting chunks of history about the Castle and the owners. Gardens around the castle are fantastic. There are plenty of paths to walk and explore. Both, kids and adults are able to enjoy. The variation of different plants and trees. River and water mill are other parts not to miss. Definitely worth to be back again. Visited during the winter on the sunny day.

Spent a day here with kids. There is plenty to do and see. Lots of walking (as to be expected) but plenty of places to stop and have a break. Cafe was great with a selection of both plant based and dairy ice cream. Lovely day out

Well preserved Medieval castle and surrounding village Happy learning from Gail@Watermill how it is functioning. Bought flour home and hoping for something delicious (not disastrous) 😅 Highly recommend for this National Trust site. 👍👍👍

Great National Trust site. Interesting house, beautiful, big grounds. Well worth a visit. Carpark at the front, village entrance/exit at the back. Various activities for kids, cafés and toilets. No dogs allowed on the grounds. The village is well worth walking through and circling when exiting via the waterwheel gate.

The castle is so beautiful, we took the kitchens tour and loved it! Amazing history and the guides are very helpful and kind, couldn’t recommend it enough. Take your time and have a lovely walk around the garden, use the map to walk all the way to the watermill while enjoying the sound of the water running. The cafe was also great, with good options.

Not your usual castle; this has a homely, lived in feel, reflecting its use since Victorian times. It's a beautiful building, the red stonework and labyrinth of passageways adding to its charm. Inside is very comfortable and welcoming, you can even play on the snooker table if you wish. It also has a few surprises in store with secret passages and tales of ghostly visitors. The grounds are also a delight; there's plenty to see and do in a day. It's well worth a walk down by the river to visit the working watermill if you get a chance or grab a cake in the tearoom made from the spelt flour they produce. A lovely place to bring the family for a day out.

What a find! I always love visiting National Trust sites, and this has to be the best and biggest one yet! I really could return to this place and still enjoy it as much as the previous visit. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful site, just prepare for lots of walking and hills.

A very beautiful area, with imposing Castle and grounds, a medieval village street, and a working watermill. The grounds are especially picturesque in Autumn, with beautiful views from the castle terrace across the rolling Somerset hills and towards the Bristol Channel. The terrace cafe was a really great find, with a very friendly cafe manager and delicious scones. The castle had the most unique collection of Wall hangings of painted leather. They look like tapestries at first glance but take a closer look to see their outstanding craftsmanship. The staff at the watermill were so friendly and informative. A lovely day out.

Well worth a visit. There are 17 rooms depicting various times through the centuries that you can view. The gardens are grown on the steep hill leading up to the Castle so can be difficult if you are a wheelchair user but it is do-able. There is a plenty to see and enjoy

Beautiful place. It was a bit of uphill to get into the castle, but you will be rewarded with a lovely view all around. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The place was well maintained, and sufficient information was provided in each room to understand the history. My favourites were the leather gallery and King Charles' room. The garden was nice but unfortunately it was raining when I was there. I'm hoping to come back on a sunny day.

My family and I (aged from nine to 82 years) visited Dunster Castle for the first time in June and we were all absolutely blown away by the beautiful grounds! We enjoyed a full day at the Castle, which also includes a watermill and stunning gardens. The tearooms are lovely, especially the cafe by the mill which has a great outdoor area. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, especially the Visitor Reception team who organised a mobility scooter for my father in-law. Thank you! The children's trail was lots of fun, too. We will definitely return soon. 😃

We had a lovely few hours at Dunster on route back from Cornwall. Our four year old was particularly interested in the water mill, but also enjoyed walking across the tree stump stepping 'stones' in the woodlands. It is a particularly scenic National Trust site and well worth a visit.

Dunster Castle is in my top five NT places to visit, not that I come here very often, my last visit being some seven years ago. It's location is stunning, it's gardens are beautiful, the interiors sumptuous but welcoming and the watermill just adds to the magical experience. Added to that is the easy access to the amazing village. If you've never been before, just go - you will not regret it.

👍👍 A beautiful flat sandy beach to visit anytime, but obviously nicer in the summer. The panoramic views are amazing from the walkway and sand along the coastline. The tide is usually out, which means plenty of room for walks and families to play or sunbathe. Family friendly with a row of shops, arcades...
