Great fun and educational day out for the kids and adults! Being a castle it’s not suitable for disabled visitors but there are a few cafes and bars that you can relax in whilst others have an explore! That being said the car park for the castle is free for disabled badge holders. The Town is pleasant but quite hilly so not really suitable for visitors with mobility issues. There is a small gift shop on the way out which is pleasant and not too expensive, also a museum outside the castle which does have good disabled access. Well worth a visit.

Wow, this castle is huge with lots to explore. Great views of the river and information boards telling you all about where you are. The staff were friendly and we spent a good couple of hours wandering around. There was a festival happening when we visited but didn't stop us exploring, would highly recommend if you love a castle and history 😀

This is a magnificent castle. Really well preserved as well. This castle is big and has fantastic views of the river and surrounding area from up top. We also got a free audio guide with NFC technology so you just had to tap the audio device on the NFC sign and the guide will tell you about the history of the area of the castle you're in. The audio guide is free now as they're trialling it. The entry fee is very reasonable for the experience (£8.70 for adults). And the staff at the entry and in the gift shop are so friendly and helpful. In all, we loved this castle and wouldn't think twice to visit it again! Apparently they host a lot of concerts in this castle in summer and we'd love to attend one next year. Top attraction.

Came here as a last stop of the day on a day trip to Wales. I was very impressed with the castle. A lot bigger and more of it left than I was expecting. It took us a good couple of hours to get round it all. Lots of doors, stairs and rooms to have a look in and explore. They had re-enactments and displays on as well which was a nice touch. Wasn't overly busy either which was nice. The car park was reasonably priced too. Definitely recommend a visit here if you like castles. The view of it from the car park is very deceiving as once you get inside it just seems to keep going on. Three large sections and some lovely views out across the local town and river in places.

Some great views. Worth taking a coat as the wind whistles quite keenly through the place they are doing some work there at the moment so it will be interesting to see in its entirety when the work is done. Very reasonable price good parking and toilet facilities nearby.

Beautiful castle, some ruins, some restored rooms. Plenty of information around the different areas to tell you what each room may have been used for. You can walk right up to the archers walkway and peer through the slits, you can climb some of the spiral staircases into the towers. Some restoration in places to show you what things would have looked like all those years ago.

Amazing castle! Wonderful history! Castle ruins have wonderful views only a stones throw from the town itself, which is a beautiful little quaint place! Especially if you go on market day!! Which has lovely artisan stalls to enjoy + the river to enjoy! Parking directly below the castle

Fascinating historical place. Developed over a few centuries into an impressive fortification. Well presented, but be prepared for climbing stone staircases which can be slippery if wet. Strategically it is obvious why the site was chosen and developed. Explanation boards are placed close to area of interest so you are in no doubt what it is and how it is part of the greater picture. A very nice place to visit for an interesting 2-3 hours.

Fantastic Castle. I especially loved the oldest castle doors in Europe which are on display inside. Highly recommend. If time allows, I also recommend the self guided audio tour.

Nice traditional Castle on a hill. You can walk around the outside of the castle also which is reasonably high up but a good trek if that’s what you enjoy. Plenty to see nice historical place with lots of step climbing and windows to look out of. Very close to town which is handy as lots of nice little coffee shops nearby and a nice clean town centre to walk through. Enjoyed my visit and all the surroundings.

Went on rainy Wednesday and had the place mostly to ourselves! We visited roughly 10 castles in the area and this one was our favorite. The entry fee and parking cost were well worth it.

Loved this castle, it's the first stone built castle in Wales. As we were members of English heritage it was free entry, lots of free parking too. Same applies to National Trust members. Lots to see and some amazing views over the River Wye. The wrought iron bridge is also a must to see if you are in the area, well worth a visit 😀

The only downside is the awful car park. The views are just stunning, a good 2 hour explore and loads of nooks to find. Great historic layout. Would really love to see more information on William Marshall as only book available was romantic not factual

Great castle to visit on a sunny day. I would have liked a little more information about the history of it and the people who lived there but they are about to launch an audio tour which will probably solve that issue. It’s not a whole day event -probs a couple of hours at most. Beautiful location -worth taking a picnic and spending some time soaking up the views

This is a brilliant example of a castle just under 10 centuries old. Chepstow Castle overlooks the Wye river on one side and the town on the other, so good views and scenery adds to the experience, especially if you have good weather on the day! There is good car parking and toilets on site, before entering the castle. The castle has knowledgeable staff, a clear mobile information unit, and a well stocked gift shop

An interesting castle with a long history, back to the Normans. Nice views over the town and river. The only downside was that the audio guide beacons were not always in the most obvious places - I often missed them or had to search around. Sort this out and place them in obvious locations near the info panels (or include instructions in the audio) and it would be much better!

Amazing and well preserved castle spanning hundreds of years. I would recommend the audio guide as it contains vastly more information about the history of the castle than the information board... And it's free to use!

Had a good hour or so wandering around this ancient site. Useful free audio guide. Very much a fair weather day out as most is outside. Note, if you're an English heritage member of one year or more you get in free.

It's a great castle with a long story... from William the Conqueror, who made it one of the first Norman strongholds in Wales, to Tudor ages. It used to be a home to the most powerful men for more than six centuries. It's also called the oldest surviving stone castle in Britain. (the construction of it began in 1067). And only after 1690 Chepstow was decommissioned and left empty, falling into ruins... Anyway, I recommend to see it once.

Chepstow Castle. We visited Chepstow Castle on a Friday lunchtime during summer holidays,  and to be fair, it wasn't really that busy. There is a sizeable car park right in front of the Castle which was very handy. Pretty cheap too really. The entrance to the castle was a very short walk up a gentle incline. It cost less than £10 each to enter and is free for CADW members. There are information boards dotted around the castle telling you all about the history, construction and purpose during its habitation. You can really explore here and its quite a large Castle ruin. There are lots of areas to walk around and many levels to investigate.  We even made our way right to the top of the tower, some 5 stories up. Cool. There were things to do around the castle like badge making and medieval games to play. Quite clearly somewhere you can bring the kids. There is also a nice gift shop inside the castle walls which was staffed by a very nice lady who was very polite and happy. There is enough pathway to accommodate wheelchair users and minimal ability people so everyone can enjoy the Castle. We had a great time and we actually learned a few things.  Very much worth a visit.

This place surpassed my expectations immensely. The castle has many places to explore freely. The views over the river are beautiful. We went on a Monday afternoon and there was hardly anyone there 👍 highly recommended if you are in the area or visiting.🙌🏼

Amazing castle, and one of the largest I've ever seen. Wonderfully preserved. For years, I'd kayaked from Bigswear down to Chepstow, and the castle was very impressive from the water, but from inside the Castle its huge.

Excellent historical site. With superb views over the river Wye and great information boards. Ticket price as of May 2023 was £8.70 per adult, £4 for big guide book and £1.95 for a small one. Please note a certain level of fitness is required if you intend to climb the many stone staircases. Always hold on to the steel rails when using the staircases as they are very steep and winding. Staff friendly and helpful.

Very interesting and worth a visit. Situated on the banks of the Wye River. Mainly a ruin, there are a few rooms intact. Lots of information boards to keep you interested. There's a small souvenirs shop. Might add, the staff are friendly and informative. It made a good half day out on a cold Winter's day. Good parking and toilets in car park. It's right on the edge of Chepstow town so an easy walk to the centre for refreshments.

Lovely piece of history , interesting. Price reasonable. Parking is just outside the castle and on Sunday 1st 2h is free then you have to pay 1pound extra for each hour . I spent there 2h walking around there is gift shop there and toilets .

Great castle, with beautiful views. I liked how there is access to most of the rooms and parapets instead of them being closed off like alot of other places. The staff were really friendly and helpful too. Dogs on a lead are allowed too, they have to stay on the ground floor level.

An excellent place to visit, staff very happy to accommodate despite the venue being set up for rock concert that evening. Could easily spend half a day here and many people took a picnic in to eat in grounds. Beautiful views over the Wye Valley and there was a craft room set up inside for children to make a badge ( could get it turned into a badge in Gift Shop for £1). Tickets can be bought on door. Excellent t value for the time you spend in there ( Think I paid £8.50)

Lovely old castle to walk around. Dog friendly. Some steep hills and tiny steps worn down in places so wear suitable shoes. A good 2 to 3 hour visit

Lovely place to visit with your family or single.. on certain days events are held and there is loads to soak up.. lots of original pieces still remain too. Situated on the Wye the surrounding areas are also well worth checking out. Lots of parking available and toilets nearby too.

Fab! We do love visiting castles and this one didn't disappoint. Plenty of open space for a picnic. Beautiful scenery. Not so good for someone who has mobility issues.
