Lovely Victorian decor, large rooms.Loved the building and the dining room. The man on the desk was very friendly and welcoming and the other staff were friendly too at breakfast. My room was very quiet cos it was at the back,my son had the room at the front cos traffic noise doesn't bother him. Friday evening a guest told us he was moving cos he thought it was shabby and things were broken in his room, wheras we loved it. Room 7 was very quiet and peaceful for me. (There was a knob missing on the wardrobe door and the flush button on the loo was a bit loose but didn't bother me) I loved the wallpaper and curtains unlike some of the other reviewers,in fact it was very entertaining reading some of their comments!! People expect so much these days, having been brought up in an old cottage in the 1950's that had an outside loo and no bathroom or hot water, and no heat in the bedrooms, I have looked upon a bath with hot water on tap as the height of luxury ever since!

Good location + parking to rear of hotel . A cold April day to arrive but warm & cosy throughout the hotel & slept well. Woke next morning to a superb freshly cooked English breakfast to start the day. The hotel dates back to late Victorian times lots of artefacts that blends with the decor.

Good Value Period Hotel. Very cheap compares with the larger chain hotels. The hotel has a very traditional feel but is welcoming. A little tired in places and there are some strict rules, not least breakfast on a Sunday only served between 8 and 9. Checkout at 10 send rather early as well. I would recommend staying only if you are on a budget. It's not in the best location either.

The building is beautiful and set in a great location, we were round the corner from Bute Park for the gig we went to and not far from the centre of Cardiff. The manager was great and bent over backwards to accommodate us. Thank you

The decor is a little dated and tired but full of character and charm. The location is perfect for the City centre, and the Principality (Millenium) stadium is a pleasant 10 minute walk away through Sophia Gardens. The staff were very pleasant, a good sized private car park at the rear and the breakfast was everything you could want (unlimited orange juice and tea/coffee, cereal, full English and toast). All for a fraction of the price of city centre hotels. It will be our first choice when we go back for next year's event. Recommended.

Lovely little B&B, rooms were sufficiently stocked, the beds were comfy, and breakfast was really nice. The Decor is a little outdated but that's not a massive issue. Parking is available at the rear, found via an unmarked and very narrow alley.

Pros: Rich in history Very friendly team of staff Marvellous full Welsh breakfast free of charge Fast free Wi-Fi Cons: There handyman is obviously an amateur or just plain bad. The light fixings & features are a lottery, even boardering on unsafe. With some renovation effort, this could be a great hotel.

Came to stay at the Penrhys Hotel with my elderly Grandmother. Was meant to be a special trip together for her birthday. Turned out to be the worst stay ever!!!! We arrived at the hotel and after booking a twin room (with 2 single beds) we were given a room with 1 double bed. After showing the staff our booking confirmation which stated 2 single beds they then moved us to the top floor of the hotel which wasn't ideal for my Grandmother with all of the stairs. The room itself was dirty, dated smelt very musty and was very hot. The bathroom door wouldn't shut and our bed linen was dirty. I wish this was all that went wrong! After taking my Grandmother out for the evening we returned to the hotel and came straight up to our room. We put the TV on to find that it didn't work. I went downstairs to the reception to tell them that the TV wouldn't turn on. The lady came upstairs to take a look and told me "Well it was working yesterday", she then went to find some batteries and on her return bought a man with her to fix the TV, A MAN THAT WE FOUND OUT WAS ONLY A GUEST WHO SHE OR I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW! She then proceeded to tell me that there was nothing she could do about it without even a simple apology. I then said to the lady that this wasn't really good enough, starting with making a mistake with the booking which we never got an apology for either. I asked the lady if we were going to get some money off of our booking as we paid nearly £100 for this room for 1 night. She started to get aggressive and was raising her voice at us and said "well what am I suppose to do about it" I asked her to leave our room as this was disgusting customer service , She then walked out of the room saying you can take this up with my manager and slammed the door behind her. At 11pm the lady returned to our room saying that she had spoken with her manager and they asked us to leave the hotel and said they would give us a full refund!! So at 11pm myself and my Grandmother left the hotel feeling very vulnerable and spent the next hour sat outside on the street working out what we were going to do! We ended up being collect by a family member at midnight and were driven home to Exeter. This ruined what was meant to be a special weekend! This hotel deserves nothing more than a 0 rating and should be shut down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
