We went for the first time on Friday after I googled “Best Chinese restaurant in Newcastle” Papillon certainly lived up to the recommendations. The food was delicious- the best either of us had ever tasted. The service was outstanding- friendly, attentive yet unobtrusive. Will the owner even came out and said hello to us! We’ll be going to Papillon regularly from now on.

Always delicious Chinese food. It's our must go place when we go back and visit our family from Melbourne. Salty egg yolk sweet corn is one of our favourites. If you also like spicy food, they have plenty of dishes to choose from. Taiwanese popcorn chicken is also a hit. If you want to taste more of real Asian cuisine, ask the staff for recommendations.

One of the worst chinese take aways i have ever had. The vegetables and mushrooms in my dish were clearly from a can and not fresh and the rest of the dish had no flavour. The worst spring rolls ive ever had in my life, frozen ones from the supermarket would have been better. Ended up spending over 100 bucks between 3 and no one enjoyed their meal. Would never order from here again!!

A real hidden gem in Newcastle. Great and authentic Chinese food, it deserves more attention and applause. The staff are also welcoming. Maybe due to its inconvenient location, it seems to me that not many people have the chance to try their fabulous food.

A small local restaurant, but the food and service are excellent. Definitely worth a try.

I have had a LOT of Chinese food over the years. I've eaten it in England, Ireland, America and even in China. But none have come close to the fusion menu offered by Papillon in Cooks Hill. The traditional Chinese / Taiwanese food is outstanding. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. By far the best Chinese restaurant in Newcastle, and better than any I've been to in Sydney. Highly recommended dishes: 🤗Gong Bao Ji (stir fried chicken & veg in the best sauce ever) 🤗Mei Cai Kou Rou (steamed pork belly with pickle veg) 🤗Xian Su Ji (Taiwanese style deep-fried chicken) 🤗Shui Zhu Niu (tender beef in chili oil) 🤗Beef & Vegetable Stir-fry And my personal favourite ... drum roll please 🥁🥁🥁 🤗🤗🤗Hua Dan Xia Qiu (king prawn with juicy egg) YUMMY YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!

Walked 1.5km to this chinese restaurant, food quality was worth the distance but the time it took for the the dishes to be served was not timely considering I was the 2nd customer when I arrived, and the 3rd and 4th table ordered later but was served before me, go figure 🤔 otherwise comfort food and I will certainly return to try other dishes.

Small neighborhood Chinese Cafe and Takeaway. Has a big reputation that is totally justified. Excellent food. Happy vibe. Love it.

I must say, it's so refreshing to dine at a restaurant that doesn't prioritize flashy decor over authentic flavors. I mean, who needs delicious food when you can have walls covered in neon lights and tables that scream 'Instagrammable'? This place clearly missed the memo that a meal should be about taste, not just the perfect selfie backdrop. But hey, if you're looking for a place to boast about your dining adventures on social media, this one isn't it. Instead, it's a quaint little spot where the real stars are the flavors, not the photo ops. What a novel concept!

By far the best authentic Chinese in Newcastle. We came from Sydney just to eat here again. Better than most Chinese Chinese restaurants in Sydney as well and very well priced. Would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants authentic Chinese at a good price.

Authentic Chinese great food. I would say probably one of the better Asian restaurants in the City. It's all in the quality and the taste....

Undercharged one dish by $2 and then requested we go get cash to pay it back when it was their mistake, turns out they didn't even put the fried rice in the bag. We got home and we're missing items. The food took forever and tasted disgusting. Mostly just tasteless and filled with fried onions. Worst Chinese food of my life and my partner and I both had upset stomachs for eating any of it. I do not recommend. Service was average and food disgusting.

If you want to eat real Chinese food just go there! The best dishes I had the chance to taste. Big servings and very tasty! Quality was fire. Waitresses were very gentle and kind with us thanks a lot for that experience at your restaurant!

Good is sensational, tapas/share plates only, but everything is unique and really good! I had the zucchini spaghetti, I'm no veg, but it ad great and the spanner crab was sensational! Love the place: a wine in an original bank-style building; high ceilings, beautifully designed, large, darkly well-lit with a corner of large comfortable couches, candles, oh and the fabulous wine list.
