I traveled to Costa Rica this summer to study abroad and improve my Spanish. During my two month stay, I studied Spanish at the Universidad de Costa Rica. I cannot express enough how much this place has changed my life forever. I will, for the rest of my life, live with a 'pura vida' mentality. All the amazing women at this school were some of the most influential people I have ever met and I am forever changed because of them.

I had a midnight flight and i didn't know what to do in San Juan. So i went to the UCR, in hope to see a sloth and after 2h of walking around i saw 3 of them hanging in a tree. Totally worth it. Amazing food too

University of Costa Rica and the surrounding is a great place to catch the local vibe. Probably one of the more safer areas of San Jose. Lots of statues around the campus to look at and learn the history of the university. You will also be able to walk the many trails around campus. The university has definitely integrated nature into campus life as they also offer a guided nature walk so you can learn more about the animals in the local area. The students are very friendly and enjoy practicing their English speaking skills so the area feels a bit more welcoming to foreigners.
