I recommend it! A great place that we found by chance in a small alley next to the Palacio Nacional da Sintra. The setting - a very cozy typical small Portuguese restaurant. The food - the salads and main courses were delicious, but the dessert was definitely the "wow". We ordered a homemade walnut tart. He was great. The service - I give 5 stars because there is no 6. The waiter was exceptional. He spoke Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. He was constantly joking with the guests or himself and making everyone laugh. Like a psychologist, he managed to bring the visitors closer together and it became a very pleasant atmosphere. When he found out it was my birthday, he immediately brought and lit a candle and made everyone sing. Unique!

If I could give 10 stars I would. 1. Service was amazing, Carlos was very informative on the history of the food and wine. And made excellent recommendations for wine. 2. Food was amazing, so fresh, delicious and with an awesome flavor palette. 3. Reasonably priced for the quality. I stumbled upon this place by accident, but so happy. All 4 of us said it was the best experience we had in Portugal so far.

(Translated by Google) Traditional Portuguese cuisine restaurant in Sintra. The service and prices are good, good option to get away from the most touristy places. The food was good, excellent sardines for starters and main courses ok, good but nothing exceptional. The important improvement: the closed environment, because you will leave smoked and smell the food.

Lovely restaurant for a dinner! We had the Octopus and the Gambas which were really great! The goat cheese starter was not so good (dry and hard)! The red wine was delicious! The staff was friendly but we expected a little more from a place like this!

Tulhas has a wonderful interior design--very hip yet simultaneously historic. Small, cozy, high on atmosphere and aesthetics. Food was good but not exceptional. Enjoyed the experience and ambiance. Friendly staff.

Nice place , good food but I have to say I was surprised with the bill, €122 euros for 4 of us (2 adults 1 teenager 1 child) for a normal meal. We explored all over Portugal and dined at excellent restaurants(we are Portuguese Americans by the way) and we never came close to that bill. We joked about it the whole trip. All in all good place but a bit spicey ( pricey) for what it is ....bom apitito !

(Translated by Google) Pretty ordinary restaurant. Dishes are quite ordinary, without frills. The basement is quite stuffy, but there are tables on the street. (Original) Довольно обычный ресторан. Блюда вполне обычные, без изысков. Подвальчик довольно душный, но есть столики и на улице.

We had such an amazing experience at Tulhas. Nelson was our server and he explained a lot about the history of the restaurant, very attentative, and was great with our little one. The food was great. We ordered clams, grilled cod, and duck rice, which were all spectacular. The rice had a nice crunch and had a side of garlic and shallot oil for even more flavor. The desserts are all homemade. We got the flan and lime mousse. Definitely save room for dessert. Thank you Tulhas and Nelson for a great meal in Sintra!

Fantastic dinner! I love the food in Europe, but I’m usually not impressed with their steaks. However, the steak was so tender and flavorful that I absolutely loved it. The grilled cod was also great as usual. Definitely recommend this for the food and ambiance.

Looking for a snack, we were deceived by the good online reviews. The salad was okay, but the soup of the day tasted of nothing plus we found a hair in it and the waiter forgot the bread basket we had ordered -- apparently for good reason, because the bread we finally got was toasted leftovers from the day before. In the end, probably deliberately no question whether we would have liked it, the waiter went straight to the payment process. Definitely no recommendation.

Best food we've had in Portugal! Try the clams, they were amazing. Apparently they are the oldest restaurant in town. It's just slightly away from the areas with heavy foot traffic (where all the usual tourist restaurants are). Cute seats outside when the weather is nice, on your own platform :)

Avoid. Worst bacalhau in Lisbon, poorly prepared. A typical tourist trap, all talk, poor ingredients. Much better alternatives in Sintra.

  • 5/5 Tim C. 2 years ago on Google
Service was perfect: good wine recommendation, prompt and attentive service. Busy for a Sunday night, but we had no issues for a casual evening dinner. Shared the beet salad, 1 bream and 1 steak, plus dessert. Excellent and more relaxed than the heavier-trafficked tourist streets.

We had a delicious Portuguese lunch here after visiting Quinta da Regaleira. The waiter was super helpful, funny, and attentive. What’s more, he immediately came to our table after we sat down without having us wait for 10-15 min even to get a menu - unless you go out of your way to get one - like other places. After that, we had our meal on the table in less than 15 min. The bacalhau com natas (creamed cod) was delicious, as was the Iberian pork “lizards” (strips). I would have loved to try more dishes, but we were scheduled to go to Parque de Monserrate after lunch, and Sintra is quite the uphill workout. One more reason to go back! Also, the place is relatively tiny and gets packed pretty quickly, so make sure you book a table in advance (which you can do online, because this place understands it’s 2022 and that millennials have some discretionary spending budget now).

(Translated by Google) It is a nice place, well attended. We had an expensive but bad cod, a very rare thing in Portugal. Pomposo named "Cintra special cod", was a small and thin piece of grilled cod, seared with some vegetables. Nothing special. Very expensive drinks. We went to finish dessert and coffee somewhere else. Nada especial. Bebidas muy caras. Nos fuimos a finalizar postre y café a otro sitio.

Best restaurant experience in Portugal! The food is incredible, we recommend the clams and prawns and sheep’s cheese especially, all very reasonably priced as well, especially when compared to restaurants nearby. It was actually our server Nelson was the best part of the night, great guy, very attentive, running the whole restaurant floor perfectly. It also stays open later than anywhere else so a great place for a drink! 10/10, come here!

Terrible service. The man working there today 3rd January at 4pm was extremely rude. He didnt greet us. He was shouting at other customers. It was loud and awkward. We sat down and ordered dessert. We decided not to have a drink as we didn't feel welcomed. I asked for the bill and he shouted it is 5.50 euros.

Great food, and probably my favorite restaurant that I visited while in Lisbon. My group of friends and I tried a variety of menu items, and found everything to be delicious. The ambience was great, and Nelson was an absolute treat to have as our server. I would highly recommend this as the spot to grab a bite if you visit Sintra!

A typical Portuguese restaurant, small and with a pleasant atmosphere. The service was ok and fast. We served a vegetable cream soup and some Portuguese specific pork with potatoes.I stayed on the terrace, which means 3 tables pressed against the wall. The space is a bit narrow and you are a bit uncomfortable. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

A gem in Sintra that is less well known. The waiter, Nelson, is a real character. Food is correct .. traditional. Great quality for the price. A fun place. My new spot in Sintra. Enjoy.

Great place to have quality fresh food for a fair price in Sintra. We ordered some tapas to start and everything was delicious, the clams were really tasty and fresh and the melted cheese was beautifully accompanied with pumpkin jam. Then we ordered dorada and bacalao con nata, I can't tell which one was better. Lastly, the waiter was really chatty and funny, it made the experience even better!

The reason why we spent too much here is because the menu was not explained to us. We have ordered side dishes- rice and potatoes which was not necessary because the meal apparently was served with potatoes. But the waitress that time did not tell us even though I asked her. I think she didn’t understand well my question. The food was OK nothing special so I think this small restaurant is pricey for quality and ambience.

Tiny cosy place to have a good meal. We had a short stop at this restaurant and were not disappointed. We had some lamb chops, sheep cheese with jam, vegetarian soup and some beers. All dishes were tasty, fresh, full of flavour. There are also fish options of course, but we didn't order any. If you happen to be at Sintra and have doubts where to lunch/dinner, this is a very safe option.

Not even worth a review. The place where you get fish soup with overboiled rice for 32€, this dish is called sea food rice. The worst is that the staff doesn't care. bad food and attitude, not worth a single tile. we thought it was a place with original local food and are really disappointed. looks good tastes bad. never ever.

The restaurant looks nice however, we were given the wrong food twice. Food was very poor and very expensive. Staff weren’t welcoming at all and seemed to just want us to leave. The best part of the meal was leaving. If you are recommended this place like we were, do not fall into the same tourist trap.

A beautiful small restaurant with quality food. What really makes this place stand out is the staff. The multilingual waiters are masters of their profession and will recommend the perfect meal and wine pairing to you, cater to your every need and entertain you with their vast knowledge and anecdotes. While other restaurants make you feel like "just another random tourist", at Tulhas you will be treated like a valued individual and even more so, like a friend.

Tulhas is a refreshing change from the overload of tourist trap restaurants in Sintra! Located slightly out of the historical centre (by slightly I mean about 1-2 minutes walk), your efforts will most definitely be rewarded (if 2 minutes of stroll even requires any effort). While I can't guarantee that this place serves the best Portugese food (since I've yet to try all restaurants in Portugal), I'm positive that the experience you get here is top class! And because dining isn't just about how great the food tastes (especially as different people have different palates), the enjoyment of the entire restaurant experience from the moment you enter till the instance when you leave is often of greater importance! But for what it's worth, I absolutely enjoyed the food as well and consider it amongst the best I've tried in Portugal. More essentially, I felt at home immediately after stepping through their doors. The good people at Tulhas, Cardos Saraiva and his colleague (sorry I didn't get your name), went to great lengths to make me feel comfortable. They gave recommendations, explained the origins of the wine I was drinking, and shared their opinions and knowledge about everything under the sun from Portugese history to Mongolian empires. They also customise their service go each and every customer by attempting to say pleasantries such as "Enjoy your Meal" and "Thank You" in your native language. From what I could tell, they could pretty much manage every single language, seeing as how the diverse range of customers of different nationalities were all delighted by the suprising bonus. I absolutely enjoyed my meal; way more than enough to have me coming back for a second dinner. If I ever visit Sintra again, this place would remain my top choice for dinner! Kudos to Cardos and the Tulhas team, and keep up the great job!

You should never go. The worst restaurant ever. Provide the worst meal in Portugal. It's a snatch. The clerk is lying with his eyes. Serving drinks in dirty glasses. If the customer is identified as Asian, they serve a meal that is too bad to eat and charge an exorbitant price. The salad is dry with old vegetables. The meat is too hard to cut. Oily potatoes. Eating a bite made me feel sick. The worst restaurant that spoils the fun of coming to Sintra
