Got totally ripped off by the laundry service. 120k for 2 bags. The most expensive price I've experienced in South America. Quadruple the price of other places

A great central place for gathering and being able to share together, while still being in the center of everything Cartagena has to offer. I stayed in the hostel with a group of friends for a city getaway. There is beautiful decor and gathering spaces in the living room, a giant table perfect for games or a chat. The balcony overlooks a street where you can observe the night life and tourists passing through. Very comfortable beds and air conditioned. I would highly recommendation this for a group of friends or family.

One of the most memorable experiences in Colombia for my friends and I! Beautiful place and the perfect location within the walled city! The host was very welcoming and was very attentive. I couldn’t have chosen a better place and will definitely be going back soon!! Thank you!!!

This is my cousin and I first time in Colombia and did not know what to really expect. The place is located right in the hear of Cartegena inside the “walled city”. Christian and Astrid (staff) are very helpful and super nice. We asked them about tours and places to Visit and they gave us the information we needed. Christian would even walk us or make sure it was something safe for us to do. Overall the place is really clean and convenient as for as location and how far everything is. Only about 20 min ride or less and super cheap. The rooms are a tad small so if you’re looking for space that is the only down side. There is A/c and to be honest we forgot about the small space after two days and felt fine. I would stay here again!

This hostel was a great price and very clean and modern. Every morning there was fresh juice available, the bathrooms were clean and stocked, beds were quite comfortable. The host Christian went out of his way to make sure that we had a great time and also helped us book our ferries to the island. He was a great help and we really appreciate his help, when staying in Cartagena you are staying for the city so being able to find a cheap but very clean and modern place means you can spend money on the food and experience the city! Also it was just walking distance from amazing gelato, dinner, drinks and has a great balcony so you can see the city below if you want to stay in for a night. Highly recommend this place if you are staying in Cartagena and do no need a traditional hotel.

Such a lovely hostal, right in the heart of the Old Town. We stayed in room 1 with a balcony which was just fab, we went out to get dinner than sat and watched the world go by as we ate. The staff are lovely, really helpful and the breakfast was excellent! For backpackers we really appreciated having towels and the chilled water filling station, they even leave a thermos flask in your room. Super clean and nice modern common areas. Check in was super easy, we arrived late at night and used codes to enter the hostal and our room. The area feels safe being in the centre of the tourist neighbourhood, we walked around early morning and at night. Excellent stay, thank you!

We weren't massively impressed with the hostel, especially because we stayed in much better hostels in Colombia for less money than this, but I guess it does the job for just one night. The aircond worked well and the breakfast was nice - option of waffle or scrambled eggs on toast, fruit, coffee and juice (not fresh though). We arrived the hostel at 16:00 but the rooms still wasn't ready - we had to wait for an hour until we could enter our room. The room was relatively clean but the sheets were stained and a bit brownish. The room was small and had no windows to the outdoor, only 2 to the corridor.

Stopped for a coffee, it was made with a lot of care and was so good! With a glass of honey on the side for syrup! The banana bread was awesome too!

El barrio hostal is good value because of its location bang in the centre of the walled old town. Given how Getsemaní has developed, with its friendly (and less aggressively touristy) vibe, I would consider that area a good alternative during my next visit. I appreciated the shared kitchen and free coffee as well as the 9pm-8am "quiet time".

😠 Beware of the staff here. Our waiter tried to demand a tip after we paid with a credit card. He tried to crumple up the receipt after I asked to see it to confirm the service charge was already included. Message to the owner: You should fire staff that tries to cheat and take advantage of your custo...
