Staff was pleasant and friendly. Nobody truly speaks English but I could communicate. The rooms are a little disappointing. No balconies and zero view. My room faced a wall. Safe box was very scary. Not digital but a rusty box that I had to get a key and a lock...which was provided. I was very uncomfortable in the beginning but I adjusted and felt very safe there. AC was excellent and breakfast was just ok. There were insects all over the fruit and toaster. Juices tasted like water. Pool and bar area is very outdated but acceptable. I had a decent experience but would not return. It is not geared towards American standards but you do get a major culture shock if you're into that. Location was very good and the beach is by the pool but felt unsafe going because the literally harassing you when going outside pool gate. I'm glad I went but very happy to be home. I would not return. If you lose your room key which is a blank white card you will pay money but they won't necessarily give you a new key! Crazy!

This hotel is absolutely awful! Any hostel I have stayed in across Europe or Asia would be rated far superior to this property. If you travelled in the US this would be compared to an old rundown motel. The property boasts being near the ocean, and it is but the view is barely there, the beach is not what we were expecting sand and water are dirty, you need to travel to one of the islands to have Clear water. The property itself had holes in bathroom tiles, burn holes in the bedsheets, you only get one thin sheet, one mattress was super firm while the other was like sinking in a deflated balloon. There were ants and roaches in our room, after killing one of the cockroaches roaches we left it dead on the floor, housekeeping came in the next morning made the bed but left the roach! Breakfast is not very good but if all you want is bread and coffee you’ll be okay, however they also offer runny eggs. Our room was very cramped and did not even have enough space for us to open our luggage even though we were only two travellers. The furniture is worn and outdated. There was zero evidence of any Covid or sanitation precautions. The only somewhat nice thing is warm water in the shower, although the bathroom is so cramped you can’t comfortably shower and dress or simply use the toilet, and the AC worked which you won’t find in many rural towns.

I was very please with this Hotel. I read mixed reviews so I decided to write about my stay at Hotel Playa Club. I was very please with the hotel. We stayed 5 nights and did not had any problems. It's a very affordable hotel for those who are budget conscious travelers like me. It is a bit outdated and a tad tired, but very clean. Our room and bathroom were very clean. The cleaning lady did a great job every day. The room is a bit small with just the very basics: Closet with hangers, safe, TV and a mini refrigerator which to me was a plus. The bathroom the same , basics toiletries and towels that to me were a tad small. The bed was kind of small eventhough we booked a full size. Firm mattress , too firm for my taste, but I was able to get a full night sleep. The Aircondition worked quietly, but worked hard to keep up with Cartagena's heat. It kept the room confortable. One tip: if you keep the bathroom door closed , the room will stay cool. This Hotel has a cozy and shaded pool area in the courtyard. You have easy access to the beach ( just cross the road). Sitting at the pool you can see a beautiful sun set every afternoon. While.on vacation I do not spend a lot of time at the hotels, so this hotel wa perfect for us. Is convineintly locate near many good restaurants of all budgets. It is a short 20 - 25 minute taxi ride from the airport and 15-20 minutes from the Walled City and most of the historical sites. We spent somewhere around $4 -$6 dollars one way from most sites ( not to playa Blanca, is a lot farther). We felt very safe walking around even at 2 am. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful, always smiling and attentive. Juan( I think that was his name) at the door would have a taxi ready for us in short notice, even at 3 am during our departure. The accommodations were about 3 stars and the service a 5 stars.

Some of the staff were very nice. My sister was told upon arriving that there were no baby cribs, although we had requested one a month prior. The next day, we were told that they did have cribs and were not sure why she was told that. We had breakfast included, which was ok, but they will nickel and dime for the amount of food you eat. You can not have more than one serving of a specific food.

Absolutely horrible. Everything about this hotel was disgusting. To begin we had no blankets and when we asked the front desk they got annoyed at us for asking. We then woke up the next day to a not so good breakfast and decided to continue skipping breakfast the rest of our stay which was unfortunate. The walls are also paper thin and you can hear everything that goes on which is very uncomfortable. Overall we weren’t very pleased from the get go but we thought to ourselves it’s a place to sleep and shower so whatever, but no. Housekeeping never came to clean our room one day which i honestly didn’t necessarily care about but i really did need clean towels, when i asked for new ones at the front desk they did nothing to help me. We also woke up every single night due to noise throughout the hotel. One night in specific there was a room partying until 4am which the hotel did nothing about. And I can’t say the entire staff is unpleasant because there were a few nice folks but for the most part they were all quite rude. At one point I went downstairs to the bar area to buy a bag of chips, when I didn’t have exact change the woman behind the bar laughed at me and rolled her eyes at me for even suggesting she break the bill i offered her. I decided to leave the bag and walk away. If you’re looking for unpleasant staff with terrible costumer service skills and a place that constantly reeks of cigarettes and weed all night with no “quiet hours” go for it. Otherwise do yourself a favor and don’t stay here. Easily the worst hotel I've ever stayed at.

Rooms are very plain but functional for a short/last minute stay, beds are extremely hard... The staff is ok, could be more engaging. Breakfast was acceptable.

They need to wash the cups. Found two roaches in the shower. As soon as you get in the room you can smell mold. Breakfast is always the same. Stuff is good.

I love the Hotel although I received the room with no windows and no balcony this time. I love the hotel. I still give it 5 stars although I Prefer a room with a balcony. The service is awesome, the comfort is awesome, and the location is outstanding!

This hotel is old but is very clean and the service is awesome! Great helpful staff in any matter. Very nice staff. First this hotel has a pool next to the beach, you need only to cross the street and you are on the beach. Also it has an open restaurant area under a big tree which gives him a natural look. They have a very generous breakfast( bread 4-6 kinds), oatmeal’s and cereal’s, fruits, eggs, cheese and meat. To recommend.

It is your typical 2 star hotel. You get an almost full size bed & a tiny little shower. There was small amount of mold on the shower wall. Location is good because it is near the center of the city. You get breakfast every morning. The beach is at the back of the hotel, just a quick walk. But something unfortunate happened during our stay: it was our fault for not using the safe but we got $60 USD stolen from us. (Of course we didn’t get it back!) Although we reported it to the front desk. All they did was apologize and stated they would report it and investigate which led to nothing. We decided not to make a huge fuss about it either. So I would say keep your important belongings on you at all times or use the safe provided.

Hotel was in great location across the street from the clubs and restaurants. Staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Definitely recommend staying at Ethnic Thematic Hotel in the Walled City.

The best hotel in Bocagrande. The staff is kind and willing to help, especially Jimmy. Despite it is not a huge building, you can find everything you need to feel comfortable. You can see dusk and dawn from the swimming pool. There's also a back door in front of the beach which is so helpful. Bedrooms are comfortable with AC, tv, hot water in the bathroom. The included breakfast is amazing!

Ok let me start off by saying I was truly nervous about this hotel because of some of the bad reviews. I was treated like a KING by Jorge. I had a hiccup on the room, but after that it was smooth sailing from there. He made sure (Jorge) did all the little things to make our stay acceptable and comfortable. They more than with out of their way for us. We were talking about playing cards downstairs and the next thing we hear them knocking on door with a table. Great service if I go back I will stay there. Only draw back was the breakfast they didn't change it up to much and I'm a picky eater so I didn't like breakfast too much. Other than that, the hotel had decent rooms for the price and great services.

Room was very small for the 4 of us. Bad odors from bathroom drainages came out to the room. We asked twice for additional blankets and we were told they did not have any available. Pros: excellent location and friendly staff.

The staff are professional. The rooms are clean. Nonetheless, I want to give this place a two-star rating. It's noisy. We experienced construction, nightclubs, and the noise from the maids. I had the misfortune of having a room opposite their storage area. I was woken several times by their shouting. Although the room was a bit sad, I think that is have been more accepting had I been allowed to sleep. I won't return. Gotta love the view, though...

Beautiful place with friendly staff, I'd recommend 👌; They need to work in the food; sometimes there were regular meals with no affection to the guests. I'm sure they're going to improve and will become the best hotel in Cartagena!
