Located in the Linear Park of Puerto Duro, the statue monument to one of the most famous indigenous people of the Conquest, was erected in 1974 by Eladio Gil, reproducing the statuette made by HĂ©ctor Lombana for the India Catalina awards in 1960. India symbolizes the native race, it is a monument intended to honor the Caribbean culture of its primitive inhabitants, symbolized by an Indian woman who served as an interpreter for the conqueror Pedro de Heredia when he founded and conquered this territory in 1533.

According to the story, India Catalina was an indigenous woman who was captured by the Spanish in the Cartagena region and who, due to her ability to quickly learn the Spanish language and her knowledge of indigenous customs, became an interpreter and mediator between the indigenous people and Spanish colonists. His role as an interpreter was important during the time of Spanish colonization, and he is credited with helping to establish relations of peace and cooperation between the Spanish and the indigenous people. In honor of her historical role, a statue of India Catalina was erected in the Plaza de la Aduana in the historic center of Cartagena de Indias. The statue was created by Bogotá sculptor Eladio Gil, and was inaugurated in 1974. The figure of India Catalina has become an important cultural symbol of Colombia, and her image appears in many places, including on Colombian banknotes and coins. Ultimately, India Catalina is an important figure in Colombian history and culture, and her legacy continues to be honored and celebrated throughout the country.

This small park is in a potentially beautiful location but unfortunately is not adequately cleaned of garbage and is a resting place for the homeless.

A simple square with the statue of India Catalina, it is not very popular with tourists, it is close to a car roundabout with a lot of people moving around, but the surrounding area is dirty with a lot of trash in the mangroves around it.

it is next to a road with a lot of traffic so it is noisy, the only good thing is the statue

Excellent place to visit especially if you really want to KNOW the place instead of simply being a tourist. Bus services, taxi / collectivo services, Terminal de transporte, Ave. Pedre de Heredia, everywhere. Just learn to be a resident. It's worth it. Be careful with the women offerinf massages on the beaches in Bocagrande. They can "throw themselves" on you and demand $ 80,000 pesos and take $100,000 instead. One that goes by the name of Margareta was particularly brutal! The city is beautiful though. Walk with lots of sunblock.

(Translated by Google) The only relevance is that there is a sculpture of the emblematic India Catalina, which for the relevance of the character is quite small, moreover it is a meeting point because it is right at the entrance of the tourist area. It has no other attraction as visitors will have it where they can shelter from the inclement sun. It's usually pretty desolate.

(Translated by Google) Since it was moved... Now it is more accessible to arrive and be able to see what this monument represents for our city... Better views, in fact it has changed quite a bit (Original) Desde que se cambió de lugar... Ahora es más accesible llegar y poder observar lo que representa este monumento para nuestra ciudad... Mejores vistas, en realidad cambio bastante

👍👍 Sloths 🦥 are here and super close and really friendly. A nice park with multiple entrances, lots of trees so plenty of shade if you wish to sit and relax. Good for people watching an animal spotting. People pay a lot of money to see a sloth and you can get one for free here. There are reports of...
