(Translated by Google) Military Architecture of Cartagena: stone relics on the shores of the Caribbean Today it is the best preserved colonial monument in Latin America and national pride, a meeting point for lovers, an inspiration for poets and a setting for academic, cultural and recreational activities.-Now, when there is no threat from pirates or invaders, the function of the walls and the forts of San Fernando, San José and San Felipe is to serve the enjoyment of national and international tourists who visit Cartagena. This work was carried out by order of King Felipe II, who entrusted the mission to Field Marshal Luís de Tejada and the Italian engineer Bautista Antonelli. Thanks to the 11 kilometers of walls, Cartagena defended themselves from English, French and Dutch pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today you can walk through the roofs of its bastions, those corners built in such a way that they served as sentry boxes and at the same time, as a first defense. Of great help were the fortifications that were built around the bay and the city, of which the most important is the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, better known as the Castillo de San Felipe. There is currently a controversy over the state of the walls and forts, due to vandalism and La Heroica's lack of planning.

(Translated by Google) Tour that starts at 10 or 16 if I remember correctly. Very complete and explain the history of the city since its discovery. During summer I would recommend the 4pm tour since the 10am tour is very hot and on sunny days it is quite suffocating (Don Omar Guide!)

Interesting tour of Cartagena old town. Our guide David was very knowledgable and kept us engaged throughout. The tour itself is only 2 hours long so shorter than most walking tours but you wouldn’t really want any longer with the Cartagena heat. The tour focusses mostly on the area around the Cathedral so worth exploring further afield on your own if you want to see the whole old town.

I did both the Walled City and Getsemani tour and I enjoyed both of them. I did the Walled City tour with Edgar and he's an amazing guide! He has (and shares) a lot of knowledge about the history and the culture and seems to be able to answer any question you might have! And on top of it he's funny and enterntaining!! I did the Getsemani tour the day after and Luis was my guide. It was very interesting to visit this neighbourhood with someone who grew (and still lives) there but unfortunately his English level was limited which made interactions (and sometimes comprehension) more difficult but the tour remained interesting despite this limitation. Would definitely recommand.

We took two tours whilst in town and would highly recommend both. The old town tour with tour guide Jesus was very interesting and informative and Kevin’s tour of the Bazurto market is an absolute must if you feel a bit adventurous (and hungry!).

The tour with Jesus was fun, informative and not a boring monologue ;-) I recommend taking the tour on your first day in Cartagena since we got some good tips about where to eat and go for nightlife. Jesus speaks very good English and during the tour he will try to teach you some Spanish :-) We took the Old city and Getsemani tour and it was a good introduction to the city. We enjoyed!

I don't usually write reviews, but Luis was so wonderful that I had to. He is one of the best tour guides I've had and his positive energy is truly contagious. His passion for his community shines through and he is extremely knowledgeable. I can't recommend this tour enough!

I don't usually leave reviews but I had to do it this time because this tour was AMAZING. Luis was such a passionate tour guide and I can't recommend him enough. I was touched by just how much he loves his community, or as he would say it, his family :) He showed us the history of the neighborhood through art (the tour was so informative!) and was so happy and outgoing the whole time. His joy was infectious. 11/10

We did the tour and it was enjoyable with our tour guide Roy quite knowledgeable about the area. However, there was quite a bit of upselling in the tour and we ended up going with a tour for the 4 islands trip that was recommended by the guides. This was a mess, disaster and extremely unprofessional. We were sceptical as there was no website, we were just sent a message on WhatsApp with the iteniary by one of the guides. We went with the tour expecting it to be decent based on the tours recommendation but it was a disaster; no hotel pick we ended up having to walk while having 3 separate tour guides hassling on the phone, the bus driver was on the phone on numerous occasions and ended up conking the bus - which resulted in about 5 of us having to get out and push the bus to start it. Then a member of the boat claimed she was missing approx 300k pesos on the boat which resulted in an argument. Throughout the day we passed through 3 different guides which was a mess. Posting this here because the tour company should not recommend this company to tourists and people should be aware of issues with the tour.

Free walking tours are the best. I've never been disappointed. Firstly, it's free! Vacations are already expensive enough so why not do something fun, informative and free! Free Tour Cartagena did an excellent job showing us around the Old City and explaining a lot of Cartagena's history and significance. Our guide, Edguardo, was excellent and his english was great! Thank you so much!

The Getsemani walking tour was totally engaging. Our guide Luis gave us some historical info when we started the tour. As we walked through the Parque Cenntario, monkeys were chasing each other through the tree branches - an added bonus. Luis told us his story as we walked through the streets of Getsemani viewing the mural artworks. He has a great passion for his neighborhood and his pride showed through his face and smile. The artwork is amazing and is best understood when with a guide. There are many restaurants and bars owned and managed by the residents of Getsemani. The prices are amazing - best deals in Cartagena! We were captivated for 2 hours and appreciated seeing Getsemani through Luis' eyes. He wants to be no where else, and is dedicated to the history and future of his beloved home. I highly recommend this tour and Luis!

Edgar was a great guide - very passionate about Cartagena and Colombia as well as being funny bringing a good atmosphere to the day. It was a good tour taking you round the different key parts of Cartagena. The only downside was it was a hot day so you can start to loose concentration towards the end so make sure you bring water with you! All said would definitely recommend!

I did both the old city and getsemani walking tours and both were amazing! Edgar and Luis were so knowledgeable and passionate about Cartagena's history and culture. I was extremely impressed with the delicious "surprises" we got on both tours. I would recommend doing el centro in the morning, getting lunch and exploring on your own for a bit, and then see the other side of the city in getsemani.

This tour was one of the best we’ve ever been on! It blew our minds that it was free (suggested tip is around $6 usd, but definitely tip more if you are able to). Edgar was very personable and knowledgeable about Cartagena and Colombia. He took the time to meet everyone in the group and kept everyone engaged throughout the tour. I definitely recommend booking with this company and with Edgar if you can!

I'm not usually moved to write a review, only really when something is terrible or outstanding This one falls into the latter! We went with Luis around his home area of Getsemani. To be with someone so passionate, who evidently knows everyone and everything so well - it made all the difference. I'd recommend this many times over.

I don't recommend this one. This is not a great tour (and we did many walking tours in Colombia). It takes you to a few squares in the old city but the information you get in each of them is often lacking, missing, or clearly inaccurate. The guide, which was quite awkward (part of it was the language barrier), tried to over dramatize the history of the city in a way that was quite silly at times and made it difficult to know facts from fiction. For example, Francis Drake did not burn the city down just because he found a letter calling him a pirate, which offended him as an Englishman. There were dozens of examples like that (some of the reviews here make me suspect that some people actually believe the fictional history we were reputedly told on this tour). In other places the guide just did not do a good job. We stopped at a square and he asked "Who knows who is the most famous Columbian artist?" When someone answers "Botero" he says "you're right" and moves on, but forgets to point out that there is a Botero sculpture in the other corner of the square. Our tour was on 12/24 and multiple folks asked him what is there to do in town on Christmas. A trivial question, right? He said he didn't know and maybe there would not be much because of "the situation" (I think he meant COVID). In any event that was absurd. The city had dozen of events and parties during Christmas and we could have seen them preparing them during the tour. The tour was at 10am, which is super hot, which also made it difficult for everyone (including the guide). It might be better to take the tour (if at all) in the afternoon. Overall, the old city is nice but you can probably see it on your own just as well if not better.

Free walking tour with various neighborhood options. Did the one of Old Town on the Friday after we had arrived, and it was a good way to get acquainted with the city. There are English and Spanish speaking tours available. We did the afternoon tour that was two hours (from 4pm-6pm). We had Elis as our tour guide, and she was amazing. She was super personable and very knowledgeable about the city’s history. It’s best to wear comfortable shoes and to bring sunglasses/water/sunscreen for the tour. You see a lot of the city as well start from Plaza Santa Theresa, where they’ll meet you with a yellow umbrella.

We did both the old city and getsemani walking tours, and both were spectacular! Jesus (Old City Tour) and Luis (Getsemani) were incredible about Cartagena's history and culture, for every question, they had an answer, they provide you with a lot of recommendations (restaurants, activities, safety places) also don't need forget to wear comfy shoes because you will walk a lot and Sunscreen.

OLD CITY & GETSEMANI English tour. Christian was great. He was very enthusiastic about his city. I especially liked that Free Tour Cartagena uses bluetooth headsets so you can hear the guide. There are a lot of other tours around, and you can hear their microphones and loudspeakers everywhere.

Edgar the guide was knowledgeable, engaging and funny, and even though we were a big group and it was hot day, the tour was great. Don't forget a hat, sun cream, sun glasses, water and an umbrella - you might use them all in a single day :-) Though you will anyhow have a chance to buy those from omnipresent vendors...

(Translated by Google) Fully recommended. The meeting is in the Plaza de Santa Teresa at 10 minus something. They are free tours led by people with a lot of experience who tell you a little bit about the history of this beautiful city. The truth is that you have to bring a cap / hat, protector, sunglasses, water because it is very hot and sometimes it is hard. But it is completely worth it, the guide that we had a super nice older man. We ended up at the university where he told us several stories about GABO -Gabriel García Márquez- (Original) Completamente recomendado. La quedada es en la plaza de santa teresa a las 10 menos algo. Pero vale completamente la pena, el guía que nos tocó un señor mayor super agradable. Terminamos en la universidad donde nos contó varias historias sobre GABO -Gabriel García Márquez-
