4 of us did an English-speaking tour today with Arturo and had a great time. He was knowledgeable about the landmarks, easy to understand and seemed to really enjoy chatting with the group. He had some great recommendations for day trips and food. I’m glad we got the opportunity to experience Cartagena with a local, especially one who is so proud of his home. A few tips: -Tour starts after 10am but they ask you to arrive a few minutes early so it can start promptly. -You are walking around midday and it gets hot. Wear sunscreen, bring water, or bring cash so you can buy some on the way. -You’ll pass a few vendors who sell fruit and snacks. If that’s your thing, plan ahead and bring cash. -They operate on tips and give you suggested amounts toward the end. Plan for about 25k-50k per person. In my opinion, this tour is a great value.

The Walled City walking tour was lovely, visited the main attractions, and provided many unique stories (both myths and history!). The guide went above and beyond to help incorporate local small businesses (such as fruit stands, coffee man, and coconut cart) which offered us more opportunities to support local economy. Our guide was fun and approachable, with loads of insider knowledge. Ways to improve: COVID safety-- the guide did NOT wear a mask. The guide did not ask guests to wear masks either. The activity is NOT-socially distant but IS fully outdoors. Therefore I'd give it a 5/10 COVID-safe activity. 10am start time means you walk in the mid-day sun and heat-- by the end we were all a bit tired of walking in the heat. An earlier start time would of been great! The stories were hard to piece together into the longer history of Cartagena. Individually, each story was entertaining... but over all I was a bit confused on the chronology. The guide collected money from each individual by walking past each person with an open bag--- it was SUPER awkward. Almost every walking tour I've done before, they just pass a bag around so people don't feel supervised when giving a tip.

I'm a big fan of walking tours and done them all over the world, and these were some of the best experiences I've had! My experience with Rafa was actually my first food tour, because the typical model is so expensive it's always been prohibitive. This one was absolutely perfect - you tip your guide and pay for only what you choose to eat - and we loved everything about it. All the guides were excellent. I can't recommend these experiences enough should you find yourself in one of these cities. And for the record, you absolutely should add Colombia to your list. It's beautiful, interesting, has great food and coffee, it's clean and safe in these cities, and you can drink the water! What's not to like?!

We did the walking tour of Cartagena with our guide, Arturo. There were 25 participants in the tour group. Arturo is a extremely knowledgeable about the history of Cartagena. Our tour started with group introductions and then an overview of the 3 sections of the old town. We walked all throughout the old city and learned about the historical facts about buildings, the churches and local cuisine. The tour was about 2 and half hours. The guides make money by tips which is a good deal for the tourist. Arturo was fun and personable. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Beyond Colombia.

The evening tour at 4pm was perfect because it was cooler and it ended by the wall where we had a chance to view the sunset. Cartagena is full of history and culture, one would expect that a tour will explore such rich background and provide an amazing experience, one will find itself wrong. Our guide Arthur delivered a messy and unorganized tour, delivering information that was either irrelevant or made no sense, the learning highlights were: 1) you can murder a man if he runs away with your daughter without paying a dowry (apparently Colombia is a lawless country) 2) Colombian government spends alot of money providing health services to Venezuelan immigrants in the country. 3) Colombia don't have problems with drug cartels anymore. This tour was completely opposite to other tours organized by the company in other cities, which were amazing. Hopefully the company will put efforts to standardize the level of service provided.

As advertised, this is a great introduction to Cartagena. We met just outside the archways under the clock tower leading into the walled portion of the city, and the tour took us through some of the highlights of that portion of the city. The guide was friendly and informative. The one thing I feel like I can add to what has already been said in numerous other reviews is this: I debated whether to go in the Spanish or English tour group, as both were starting at the same time. Ultimately, I chose the Spanish group, which was less than half the size of the English group. There are, of course, positives and negatives to a smaller group, but I appreciated that it allowed for more personal attention and less time spent just keeping track of the group. Use this as a way to get your bearings after arriving in Cartagena then figure out where you want to focus your attention.

My wife and I went on the Free Walking Tour in Cartagena with Manu this past July. We really enjoyed it. Cartagena is a city full of history. Manu has so much knowledge of it. We were really grateful for the knowledge, passion, and excitement that he shared with us on our tour.
