Makani “luxury” beach club ruined my anniversary. We had a reservation for NYE day, and booked & paid for the Mahalo pool upgrade over a month in advance. A few weeks before our trip to Cartagena, the club manager Camilo reached out to me on WhatsApp offering another upgrade to jacuzzi seats- which I politely declined. We get to Makani on NYE, first boat in at 9am. The host tried sitting my husband & I at the jacuzzi seats and I told her we declined those seats and that we want to sit at the Mahalo pool seats- as my reservation proved I booked. She goes and gets Camilo, who tried selling us again on these jacuzzi seats. After going back & forth, he admits that they double booked the Mahalo pool seats and that there was a big party coming in and booked the entire pool area. Mind you, we were the first ones there so I told them this wasn’t my problem & that the folks coming later will have to settle for the jacuzzi (a joke, def not an upgrade) seats. We spent about an hour arguing. He called the big group and asked if we can have their seats LOL ?? Like what of course they aren’t going to give up their seats, just like I didn’t want to. In the end, the big party was bringing more money to the venue so they were treated with priority. My husband and I had to settle for the jacuzzi seats, considering we could not book another beach club last minute on NYE. Stepped in glass, cut my foot. Food took so long that we couldn’t even eat it before our boat was leaving for the day. My main issue is that instead of telling us weeks ago that they made a mistake & giving us the opportunity to cancel & book elsewhere- they were greedy and still brought us here and tried to push us over on some seats we did not book or want. Beware.

Best decision ever! When looking for a Beach club in Cartagena, we saw several, but ended up picking this one because the boat ride was not as long, and boy did we pick great! The place is Amazing! And, not only that, the customer service is great too! They called us a couple of days before our reservation, because they were having some issues with the pool, and they needed to reschedule our reservation; due to the inconvenience they upgraded our beds to be right by the pool. The beach is very private, so it makes you feel as if you are on a private island. The beach has very calm waves, and the sand is soft and clear of anything that could hurt your feet. The water is super clear and delicious. And I loved how nice the beach was. The pool is amazing! And the day we were there, it was very calm, and quiet, so overall it was a very relaxing experience, and the music is played at a nice volume. The facilities are super clean, and beautiful. The drinks were very good, and the food was mouthwatering. I wish we had ordered extra Empanadas, as they were SUPER delicious. Daniel, our server, was the best. He got us new drinks super fast, and made our stay feel super luxurious. Overall, if this place had rooms to stay in, I would stay there, as it was amazing!

Self-proclaimed luxury is not always the luxury you might expect: The boat transfer was supposed to be at 11am - but no boat was to be found. Instead of offering a free shuttle to make up for their false information, they suggest taking a private shuttle (for 100'000). Not sure who has a wrong understanding of "luxury" - but I believe immaculate service is a must! Anyways: headed to Eteka Beach Club instead where service, hospitality and atmosphere is top of mind!

WOW. if you’re looking for a Cartagena beach club, stop your search and go here. It is absolutely amazing - the facilities, the staff and service, the food, everything. Absolutely beautiful day (we went on a Friday and it was really quiet). Insanely(!!) underpriced for the experience. This competes with the best resorts in Cancun and Hawaii. Completely worth it! Would LOVE to come back!

Our first impression was quite negative. As you come in the boat the first sight is a rubbish dump. This for a so called luxury beach club is not acceptable. The club itself is nice and the staff is friendly. The worst part about the club is the food. The quality is bad and it is expensive. We do not recommend this place.

For a place that aims to be a notch up from other establishments in Tierrabomba and charges accordingly, there were serious shortfalls which made our visit dissapointing. First this place needs a dock to embark and disembark guests. The return trip was seriously delayed because a guest in a wheelchair chair had to be lifted wheelchair and all into a two engine canoe and turbulent sunset winds. Second there were no towels available The excuse was " the boat with the towels has not arrived". We did not find this acceptable. After insisting, they finally came up with towels though they came well into the day. Other serious drawbacks were if you are someone who needs intervals of shade it is simply not available unless you purchase an upgrade. These upgrades are ridiculously expensive and they would normally be included in any first class resort. At the very least, umbrellas! Finally found the food dissapointing. The fried fish entree did not taste freshly cooked. The plantains were not either. On a bright note our server Laura Garcia compensated for it with excellent service and a bright smile.

This is hands down the best beach club I’ve visited in Cartagena! It’s only 15 min with the boat. Everything was taken care of! I’m big on hygiene and let me tell you the bathrooms and the showers are gorgeous! The staff is amazing, the food and drinks also and you have to get. A massage! The best experience I could have!

Very nice premises and facility and great food. Staff is kind and the pool service excellent, but at the check-in not as organized and trained. Crowd: There were mostly families and kids playing in the pool. Music: a nice resident band was playing, but when the band stopped, the music played by the dj was LOUD and a bit tacky, it ruined the atmosphere and didn’t make us nor relax or enjoy it.

The Makani Day club was a fantastic experience. We went on a Thursday, so there were only a handful of us at the club. The gathering point was easy to find, the boat ride to the club was relaxed and simple. We arrived and quickly checked in, and were escorted to our loungers where we met some new friends. Food and drinks were great and not at all expensive. The pool is a perfect temperature and there is plenty of shade. There is also a “hot tub” that is maybe a few degrees warmer than the pool. The ocean is a few hundred meters from the club, but an easy walk. The day we went it was a bit choppy and full of seaweed, but otherwise the Caribbean waters were great! Overall a great experience that I’d highly recommend and will return to.

Customer experience was amazing from the moment you went to board your boat. We didn’t want to leave at the end of the day! Great atmosphere, beautiful decor, bueno entertainment, food and drinks were excellent. Accommodated us vegans well with Patacones & avo to start and tofu rice for lunch! Couldn’t ask for more, left feeling relaxed and fantastic!

The communication via whatsapp was not very customer-friendly. One was made very harshly aware that by mistake only a partial amount was transferred. The boat ride was special but ok. We were very warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable at the beginning. Also the beach club itself was wonderful. The service was unfortunately not very convincing, sometimes they were still talking on the phone or with others during the service, very unusual. You got the feeling that you had to consume something all the time. When it came to the payment at the end, you were virtually pulled out of the pool. Everything had to be done very quickly, you hardly had time to dry off. Although it was said that we would return at 4pm with the boat, she stood next to us at 3.45pm and said we had to come immediately and the boat was already ready and waiting for us. We felt like we had been dispatched and got the feeling of 'thank you but hurry back now'. That the boat was waiting was not even true. We had to wait the rest of the time. Conclusion: nice beach club. Service with potential for improvement. For the price satisfactory but very far from European luxury standards.

Just arrived and they’re telling us it’s an additional $80 usd a day pp to use the pool that closes at 6:30 because they’re a beach club. They cater to the people coming for the day than their actual guests staying. I’m already paying $500 usd a night for an obstructed view of the ocean that wasn’t written in the description. They didn’t allow decorations for my boyfriend’s birthday stating it’s a luxury hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful trying their best to deal with the horrible policies set by the hotel. Food and drinks are mediocre and very slow even when you’re the only ones at the restaurant and no one was taking room service. Only thing luxury about this place is the price.

We visited today on an organised excursion from Oceana Vista cruise ship. We had 4 small cans of beer, 1 pina colada, and 3 small poolside food dishes. I asked if I could pay by cash in USD. The bill total was $221. I challenged this as the pina colada alone was showing as $35, and a small beer as $12. The waiter said the total was correct, and again I said ‘are you sure this is USD as it seems extortionate?’ He pointed at the total and said it was correct. I begrudgingly gave 250 USD and asked for the change. He returned with the change (but not the bill!). I felt robbed and it really ruined my day. After returning back to the mainland I spoke to others who had been on the same excursion and it quickly became apparent that the 221 was Colombian pesos. So I had been overcharged by approximately 151 USD. I have attached photos of our part-eaten food, and of the waiter who took our money. TO THE MANAGER: I have raised a complaint with Guest Services on Oceana Vista cruise ship. I also gave my contact details to our tour guide Kimberley. I want my 151 USD returned. If it is not returned, I will instruct my staff of over 1300 employees to also leave feedback on every review platform Makani is listed.

We loved our time at Makani! The club's space is beautiful and serene, the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, and the live band was lots of fun! We definitely intend on returning here the next time we're in Cartagena. I recommend reserving a set of chairs by the pool for an improved experience over the beach.

Amazing place and great activity for a day at a beach club. My 4 stars go to the fact that the elevated ticket price doesn't include a single drink, and prices there are still expensive compared to other Cartagena bars. They were also very intense and rigid with departure time, reminding up to 5 times that we had to go.

Overall had a decent day here but would probably try somewhere else if I return to Cartagena. The service was very slow and the food was just okay. But the property is beautiful and the pool is perfect.

Very tranquil and high-quality experience, more of a family or serene vibe than Bora Bora. Food was excellent and a huge step-up from others in the area. Space itself was very luxurious and immaculately decorated, with very kind staff.

Sadly I can not recommend this place to anyone. Starting off they told us they would come pick us up at the beach and drop us off at the resort. That sounds lovely but it took us about 25min to find the specific boat and people. We didnt get any reply on whatsapp. We arrived at the resort and the resort looked stunning. It is close by the beach and the restaurant, pool and the rooms are lovely. What is a shame though is that the people are just not really that friendly. A few of them are but the majority seems to not want to be there. Waiting times are long and people dont seem to want to help. There is only one single person that can speak english. To me that is just not acceptable in a five star hotel. The People are not informed about any activities going on in the hotel. Also i took a suite in the hotel. The second most expensive room in the hotel and I didnt get a nice place to lay by the pool since it was already reserved for the people with day passes. There is a lot more i could say about this Hotel but these are just some points. I think the Idea and infrastructure are good but the price is way to high for what you get in the end

Amazing experience and wonderful vibes! Everyone is friendly and you feel like you are completely removed from the world in a great way. I’m glad I didn’t pay attention to the bad reviews. I had an amazing experience and the staff were amazing. I recommend.

I went for the day with the VIP pass. It’s totally worth it. One of best beach clubs I’ve been to in the area. The installations are beautiful, food is excellent and the service is great! We had so much fun and will go back. Only 2 things to be aware of, the live music and ambiance is fun and good but it’s not a crazy party place and the ocean isn’t the beautiful blue water of Isas del Roasio but Makani is 100% worth it!

Overall nice beach club. Good setting. Good food. Expect loud music all day. Stray dogs on the premise. Nice pool but water is hot. Beach and water are disappointing (like all over Cartagena).

Amazing resort with very good accomodation and beautiful rooms. Everything looked brand new. The lady at the reception (Elsa) was very helpful. She made sure we had the best time.

😠 I’m disappointed in the service we have been having at crepes and waffles. Extremely slow, rude waitresses, they do not give you attention- plus there was a green worm in our food. Did not take it off our bill

👍 If the servers were only helpful and friendly I would give this restaurant five stars. The servers seem to have an attitude and an air of snootiness. Not acceptable. The food is well presented but it does take a while to get it. My Poblano crepe was quite acceptable. The mushroom crepe was super yum...
