The grounds and the rooms are out of this world awesome. The restaurant and service are a completely different story, sadly. We visited during slow season which explains why the pool bars were closed but we had no way to get swim towels. We were the only guests at the restaurant and the waitress treated us like a major inconvenience. She was mad we didn’t want our table covered in dead bugs and when we ordered wine she gave us a choice of 2 bottles and the one we chose was slammed onto our table for us to open and pour. The next morning our table still had our dirty silverware on it.

First I have to say the staff here is simply amazing. We got stranded on a dirt road 5km from the resort and they did what they could to help us out. They even went looking for us on the dark. I will never forget that. When we finally got the the Spa Reddit they called is down and were very relaxing, told us to just rest and enjoy ourselves and the manager went out with his own car to try to save our stranded car. The hotel itself must have been amazing some time ago, there is plenty of rooms and suites all beautiful if in need of a little update, but as I read in another review they are now under new management so it will only improve. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the spa, but the restaurant was very good. Service was timely and or meals were really delicious (pork ribs and pasta). I wish we had another day there.

Spectacular setting. Hot underground stream feeds one of the pools. This part very enjoyable. There is a 3 mile hike up to a vista. You’ll need hiking shoes and maybe walking sticks. Food mediocre. Use spa one- very good. There are two towns near it and worth a visit.

Our last night in CR was booked at this resort and we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience! The grounds of this resort are stunning! Rivers, waterfalls, ponds, foliage, and thoughtfully designed private spaces made us feel quite serene! The restaurant was mediocre, but the service was great. The bathrooms could use some updating, but the private sunroom with a jacuzzi tub was very enjoyable. Additionally, they could improve their bed and pillow quality, but everything else about our stay was fantastic--plus it is close to rock climbing :)

Such a beautiful place! The hot tubs are all different temperatures so you can choose which one is right for you. The service in the bar and restaurant and the food was delicious! You do have to park at the bottom and walk up to the rooms, pools and restaurant, although it appears they have a shuttle if you were not able to. It's so beautiful it would be a shame not to take the walk however. I don't want to leave!

Beautiful hotel surrounded by nature. Nice walks, thermal pool is very nice and the room we stayed was very nice, large with a very confortable mattress and a nice balcony. The place seems to be a little bit in an abandon stage even though it's very beautiful and being surrounded with nature is always nice. The main downside of the place is the restaurant. Overpriced for what it's offered. And the staff is extremely slow and incapable. Common sense doesn't work for them. Breakfast is very poor too. Doesn't meet the standards of a place like this. Overall, it was a good experience.

Beautiful grounds, easy to seek out birds for watching. The huge swimming pool is heated by natural volcano heat, can be cool in the mornings. Rooms are clean but run down. Service is great and the bar at the top of the hill is limited in some drinks, but a really nice place to visit.

New owner/management has taken over in the last 4 months. Although the hotel/resort has a huge potential with its quiet, beautiful natural surroundings and a number of lovely and attentive staff, there are many areas that need modernization, renovation, investment and retraining. Some of the complaints seen in this and other websites reflect the mixed quality in this transition period I think. All the best and good luck to the new management, I would like to comeback one day to witness the positive changes that I am certain they will bring.

I wish I was writing this review under a different circumstances. After driving 3 hours with my wife and two children(10 years and 7 y 9 months) and talking about warm spring, and planning our stay at Rio, it was disappointing to face Jonathan, the manger. As soon as we entered the reception area, you could feel the disappointment in staff’s faces. They came up with 8 age policy at the check in. We didn’t see the welcome you expect at the check in! Jonathan’s mind was set not to check us in. Despite Jonathon’s failed efforts and doing research online trying to find ‘under 8 year old not allowed’ policy, he refused to check us in. After contacting Expedia , Expedia representative said they should have checked you in because their policy states CHILDREN ARE WELCOME And there is no talk of age. And now after this incident, they changed their policy on Expedia. Anyway , we had to deal with crying children, their disappointment and their anxiety of where are we going to sleep tonight. So , one could image what my rating for this hotel would be. Hope this could help you with your decision.

Came here for a special day with their "day pass" option. It was my first time in a natural hot spring thermal pool. Lovely

Woke up to the sounds of tropical birds, and the babbling creak running through the property. You are surrounded by coffee plants skirting the hills and tropical forests on every side of this hidden valley. In the midst of this, an old chapel offers peace and solitude where you can hear God walking through the garden to greet you.

Unfortunately, not reliable customer service. I contacted them via Whatsapp & email for a few days to reserve massage treatments. No response.
