Perfectly sized for getting what you need. It's not the fun maze that the San José market is, but you don't need to be a lifer to find your way around this one.

Cannot visit Cartago without going here. Great market. Buy ALL the fruits. Good places to grab casual bites or coffee inside, and many other things (meats, fish, spices, purses, etc.). Bathrooms available inside (costs 300 colones to use - equivalent of 50 cents; although there are free public bathrooms in he shopping center across the street also, Paseo San Luis).

Extremely and disgusting dirty, is a real nightmare. Stay away from there

As a Cartago citizen I can say that this is a great place to buy fresh products, other than the supermarkets in the town. Basically it's a good place to go if you're planning a fresh plate. Cartago is a province dedicated mostly to agriculture and this is the place where all the farmers join to sell their products.

This is one of the bigger markets in Costa Rica. Typically there's lots of fresh produce and meats. Sadly there's not a single espresso machine in operation.

A very interesting market that has an old world charm. Mostly local with almost no tourists. A great immersion in the local culture.

What can I say, this place has a little bit of everything for everyone if you are willing to walk the labyrinth. It's super cheap and you will find something to take come cheap.

Clean and well organized market. There are a lot of fruit stands in front of the entrance - which might seem messy as they are competing with the street noise - but once you are inside you can easily talk to the vendors and buy anything a city market can offer.
