Big portions, good food. They said each main is about 8oz of protein. I was only one person and wanted to try more than one thing so it ended up being a lot for me. Could have easily fed 3 people off the butter chicken and malai kofta and rice and garlic naan. I liked everything I had, the garlic naan was crispy and garlicky, I never had malai kofta before and it was delicious! The butter chicken was good but I've had better. The mango lassi was huge! Good for 2 people Recommend!

My husband and I were craving Indian food and found this place was top rated so we went. It was top rated for good reason. We were treated with the greatest hospitality. Our server Krishna was so welcoming. He was very professional and personable. We really bonded chatting about our life journeys but he also gave us our space and let us enjoy the food, which was delicious. We felt really taken care of, as if we came to someone's home. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated and played Indian music that we enjoyed. It was such a lovely stop. Heartfelt thanks to Krishna and we would proudly recommend this restaurant to Indians and non-Indians alike.

Great hospitality . Arjun is an amazing host. Food is good . We had Daal tadka, aloo gobi matar , tandoori roti and steamed rice. Taste was good . The chutneys are yummy. But the daal was very spicy for a medium spice level. I would advise the owner to take care of the spice level because my spice level is high and even my stomach was hurting after finishing the Daal . Tip for food lover - When you go this place for lunch or diner , please opt for low spice option to enjoy the food thoroughly.

Wonderful Indian restaurant right by the San Jose Airport. They have an indoor/outdoor seating (all covered). The restaurant is in a open strip mall with surrounding restaurants, but feels like a fancy Indian restaurant. The service was great and the staff were very clean. We ordered the chicken tikka marsala and butter chicken. Rice is an extra charge. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend 👌

The food here is so good! Some of the best Indian food we had in Costa Rica. My parents are very picky and loved it! ☺️ They also were very helpful in creating vegan options and also options that fit with my mom’s many dietary restrictions.

Amazing food with great service! I cannot recommend enough the Taj Mahal in Alajuela. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the best Indian food in all of Costa Rica. I have eaten a fair amount of Indian food and I can say without a doubt this was one of the best. Freshly cooked, full of flavour and helpful and speedy service. Will definitely come again!

Veggie Masala was excellent. Pipping got full of flavors and just the right amount of spice. This Indian gem is tucked in the plaza. Have a complimentary ice cream on a stick dessert. Highly recommend. Food is legit.

This place is very special! Not only the food was really really good, but also we were welcomed by very nice and friendly people that shared with us their rich culture and philosophy. You can appreciate the quality of fine cuisine with a variety of aromates and fresh herbs, perfectly cooked vegetables, fine ingredients. We are so grateful to have diner with you guys! See you soon for our next stay in Alajuela.

My husband loves Indian food, me? Not so much! But this was the best Indian meal I have had to date. I had the coconut fish curry with vegetable rice and it was delicious. He was happy with his extra spicy vindaloo. It is a Nicely decorated restaurant with a quiet atmosphere. Waiter Praneer (sp?) gave excellent service. Parking tip: pay to park at the machine in the center of the mall - then use ticket to exit.

This is a very cute restaurant. It’s in a strip mall, but it doesn’t feel like it. Food was decent, and the service was above and beyond. Would recommend. The tikka chicken masala was delicious, as was the complimentary appetizer.

Amazing authentic Indian food. Better than in India I thought. A must visit location in San Jose Costa Rica. I am told they have 6 more locations in Costa Rica. The owner Prateek is an extremely customer friendly and a very enterprising sweet guy Jag Holla

We are so glad that we happened upon this place. As we browsed the robust menu, we delighted looking around at the decor. Even the water glasses were so cool! Our host and server helped us decide what to order. All items ordered were phenomenal... especially the fresh and creative fresh juice blends! If there were more than 2 of us, we would of loved to have tried more options. The next time we are in Costa Rica we will for sure visit again.

10/10 I would come here if you are in need of a great food! I’m from the United States and I been here twice in one week! The tandoori dumplings are excellent as a starter. The butter chicken was also really and and the palaak chicken was amazing also! Great service as well unlike many restaurants in the area.. tending to you often asking how everything is.. I would come here

From the drinks to appetizers to main courses and even dessert, everything was beyond delicious! Service was great and the waiters were very attentive. The atmosphere for the restaurant was outdoor seating and very authentic and pleasant to experience while eating our dinner. The quality of the food was very authentic and delicious, I would say it’s one of the best Indian places I’ve been to and highly recommend visiting it if you’re around Alajuela area. Parking is safe and secure when you enter the plaza (gated).

Although an open aired place in a strip mall, the food, service and decor were incredible. I had the mushroom soup and cauliflower rice as well as Chai. They accommodated my lactose intolerance and made the soup without dairy and brought coconut milk for my Chai. Everything was delicious.

We had an amazing dinner experience thanks to the recommendations by Dharmendra. We ordered different drinks, paneer appetizer, sizzler among other dishes. Every drink/dish was unique and well prepared. The quantity was more than sufficient for the 3 of us. We are on a 11 day tour of Costa Rica and were craving Indian food and are so so glad we came across this gem! Thank you Dharmendra, for making our experience a great one and for the yummmm pickle on the side 🙂

A pricey Indian restaurant, service was top notch, sadly we didn't know we had to specify the spicy level of the food which was very very mild (quite common for Costa Ricans) Other than that no complaints, definitely worth checking out, the onion bhaaji and pakoras were not my favourite. I'm more used to the Indian-british style, the curries were tasty particularly the palak pabeer

Really enjoyed this place during our trip. I like to try to find a nice Indian spot wherever we go. Looks like I found it! We had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Biryani, Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Naan as well as a Mango Lassi. I liked all of it. It filled us up, and we had leftovers to take for breakfast. This wasn’t an inexpensive meal, but I feel the food quality and service are in line with that. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The place was in a strip mall which doesn’t sound good, but it really works well. We loved it. I’d highly recommend. Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5

Went for dinner during the holidays. Excellent food, great service and nice location. Taj is another example of the high quality of Indian cuisine in Costa Rica vis-a-vis USA. Menu is Punjabi and you get the typical fare. The dal tadka, mixed vegetables and paneer Tikka masala were outstanding. We ordered less spicy based on previous reviews and the restaurant honored it. The rotis and naans were good but could have been better. Naan was rubbery. The free starter was good. Service was exemplary and food arrived at a reasonable time. It was pricy though which is expected in the capital city and with the mall location.

We made the mistake of ordering from the wrong location and showing up here. The waiter was a boss and hooked us up by immediately putting in our order and cancelling our other food. He rushed it and had our food to us in no time! The food itself was bomb with delicious spices and mopping it up with naan is a must!

The food is good, but it’s not worth the price. In Germany the same dinner we ordered would have cost us at least $20 less in total. We payed $30 each, times 3 (don’t forget we are still in Latin-America). The food doesn’t come with rice or anything, and a portion of rice costs around $6,50 for the plain version. At the bottom of the menu it says 13% tax & 10% tip on top. The service was great but we prefer choosing how much we tip rather than having it added to the bill directly. Wouldn’t eat there again because of the price-performance ratio.

Excellent food!! We were totally amazed at the quality of the food and the service that was provided to us. Truly amazing experience. Very close to San Jose airport and also one in city center. The Chana Masala and the Malai Kofta we ate tasted better than any Indian restaurant we ever ate! And we travel a lot.

Very great food of course! The only thing that you might need to be aware of this bottle displayed on their table when about to sit especially when you’re thirsty after walking around plaza you might wanna ask for water first because i learned my lesson for opening the bottle and that I thought it was free, most restaurants provide free water in a nice bottle haha so thats what I thought. Anyway i got charged for accidentally opening it up which cost extra 5$.

The BEST Indian cuisine experience in Costa Rica! Our server Harbhajan Singh was very friendly and made excellent recommendations. We ordered saag lamb and chicken vindaloo. Very pleased with the flavor and spice they made for our personal spicy palette. Most impressively the deserts, gulab jamun and turmeric milk latte were the best we’ve ever had. The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant is top tier, using traditional Indian decor and serving with copper ware. We really didn’t know amazing Indian cuisine like this existed in Costa Rica. Must visit whether you love Indian food or have never tried it. You will not be disappointed!

Fantastic Indian restaurant close to San Jose airport. We were very pleasantly surprised by the taste, quality and variety of food available here. In a country with a miniscule Indian population, it was great to find such delicious and authentic food. We came down here a second time before flying out of Costa Rica to find some refreshing Indian food as a welcome change from the local food we ate on the rest of our trip. Lovely service by Arjun, very friendly staff.

Arjun and Harbhajan singh were great hosts. The food was the best Indian dining I’ve had in Latin America. The portions were large and the food was served perfectly. They were celebrating a Hindu festival and were so gracious enough to invite me participate. Great dinner and time. The mushroom curry, rice, garlic naan, mango lassi were all very good vegetarian options.

Taj Mahal exceeded our expectations. All of the dishes we tried were delicious and fresh. We had the cocunut curry fish, and a vegetarian dish with eggplant and potatoes in a deliciously spiced tomatoe sauce. The dal soup was the tastiest I’ve had, or made myself, with a complexity of spices. Such a variety of naan! The presentation of the dishes was beautiful! The menu was a work of art for its presentation and content. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, very clean, with open air. The service by Harbhajan Singh was impeccable. This was an unexpected treat in the heart of Alajuela/San Jose, Costa Rica. This is such a gushing review that it sounds sponsored but I promise you it is not. We spent our last evening here on our way back to the USA and we’re so happy to have found this gem so close to our hotel near the San Jose Airport.

Coming from Indian people who have dined at many many Indian restaurants, We had a wonderful experience dining at Taj Mahal! We were greeted really well by Arjun. He was super friendly throughout! We started with ordering paneer tikka appetizer (prepared by chef Rajeev) and masala chai which was out of the world! Reminded us of authentic Indian paneer tikka! The main course - Chicken Spinach, Bombay Fried Rice and Missi Roti (prepared by Chef Bhavani) were delicious! And the cherry on the cake were the desserts - Gulab Jamun and Kulfi Faluda - out of the world! Not only was the food outstanding, but the presentation of the food was impressive! Both Arjun and Harbhajan were engaged with us throughout and provided us great insight into the food and San José in general. Highly recommend!

The res vindaloo has no favor. I ordered indian hot and guess what no spice at all. Thats supposed to be the hottest. Glad i wasted 30 dollars on this. This isn't my first time ordering Indian food. I even had homemade Indian food last week with my buddies from india so i got some idea of what the spice level should be. I remember my first time ordering Indian food and the guy asked me if i like my food spicey and i said i love spicey foods and he recommended i get medium.

Everything we tried here was out of this world! We tried the Lamb Almond Korma, the Butter Chicken and the Coconut Prawn Curry and they were all amazing. The service was stellar and our host could not have been more friendly. If you are in the area and you are not coming here, you are missing out!

Excellent food People in Costa Rica usually mentions this type of food is too spicy but it is not!!! It’s packed with flavor which is amazing!!! My husband and I tried the Visa Nights menu and everything from beverages to desert was just fresh super hot perfectly served and full of new flavors and textures. Definitely will visit again Recommended for all those looking for new rich and unforgettable flavors to try.
