The beautiful atmosphere of the main town square can be attributed to the Palazzo d'Accursio. The beautiful atmosphere was evoked by the famous musician Luccio Dalla in his unforgettable song Piazza Grande. The Palazzo D’Accursio, located in the center of Bologna in Piazza Maggiore, is one of the most important buildings in Bologna, which has been the seat of the city since 1336. Now is the city's Town Hall. A significant building for the city of Bologna, rich in history. The earliest structure of the Palazzo d'Accursio originally began as the residence of the jurist Accursius, but over time, it was incorporated and expanded to include adjacent buildings to house civic offices. In 1336 it became the seat of the Anziani ("Elders"), the highest magistrates of the commune, and then the seat of the government. In the 15th century it was refurbished under the designs of architect Fioravante Fioravanti, who added the Clock Tower (Torre d'Accursio). The façade features a portcullis and a Madonna with Child, a terracotta by Niccolò dell'Arca (1478) in the upper section. Over the portal is a large bronze statue of Bolognese Pope Gregory XIII (1580). A bronze statue of Pope Boniface VIII, once here, is now in the Medieval Museum. Inside the complex it is possible to visit, climbing the sixteenth-century cordoned staircase attributed to Bramante, up to the Hall of the Communal Council, on the first floor, where the Bolognese Senate met, and contains a gallery ceiling frescoed with Baroque-style quadrature by Angelo Michele Colonna and Gioacchino Pizzoli (1675–1677). The palace is also home to the Civic Art Collection, with paintings from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the Museo Morandi, with the works by Giorgio Morandi, and the Biblioteca Salaborsa, the town libraries.

Beautiful palace in the heart of Bologna functioning as City Hall for almost thousand years. Amazing halls with paintings, frescoes and sculptures, historic stairs and stunning views of the city from the clock tower. Free entry except for the tower.

A complex of beautiful palaces on the main square, today working seat of Municipal Goverment. Some nice halls (Municipal Hall, Red Hall...) are accessible for free, in one part is a municipal collection of works of art (paid entry). On the main facade you can see two small eagle statues, the left one was made by Michelangelo.

We ddnt went inside so I have no Idea how it looks like. So I only took photo from outside. I like it when it's evening coz they put on the lights so that makes the building alive.

Magnificent complex of buildings, city art collection, spectacular recently restored frescoed ceilings and the greatest views over the main square. Spent 2hrs here including going to the clock tower. The main town hall rooms are free to enter, otherwise €8 for everything else.

Palazzo d'Accursio was the seat of several administrative offices in Bologna in the past. It comprises a series of buildings and has significant historical value. Now in these buildings are the city administration.

Beautiful palace dating from the 11th century. It has been used as the seat of the Bologna'a municipality and eventually started its service as Town Hall since 1336. There's a beautiful interior garden that can be visited for free, while some of the rooms inside the palace are also accessible when they're not being used for administrative work and meetings. The second floor can be reached via an impressive sixteenth-century staircase.

Free to enter and explore the first two levels which have some interesting art. Nice view of the plaza. The access to the tower and few rooms need a ticket.

It was eerily quiet, such a massive building with so much art tucked away in it. The courtyard when you enter already looks quite spectacular to our northern European eyes. Then you go up two flights of stairs which were made for horses to be able to ascend, then the Clock Tower which was pretty interesting, and then the massive display of artworks.

Wonderful museum but the attandant at the ticket office was a very rude man. Toilets are also not signposted. Great museum that was coloured by staff who are unprofessional in this type of job. Get new staff and a few signs and it'll be great for sure
