The Staff is very pleasant. The property is the worst Ritz Carlton property we have ever stayed at as it is dated and old. Many things in the room do not work properly, showers, toilets, etc. The facility and rooms are not clean. The property could be better maintained. Ritz Carlton should pull their franchise until the standards that are indicative of Ritz Carlton can be met. We had a 9:00pm dinner reservation. The restaurant was 75 percent full. However, we sat in the Spice restaurant waiting area until 9:45pm and left. Very disappointing for the prices charged per room. We don’t mind paying Ritz Carlton prices, but we do expect cleanliness, quality, a well maintained property and an updated facility.

Amazing hotel - 5 star experience, no doubts. Staff is ALWAYS waiting to help you. Golf Course was excellent, providing a great challenge. Spa was some of the best I’ve experienced, so attentive to needs and so accommodating. Pools were fantastic - they have 3 of them. On site restaurants are fantastic and even feature a Michelin rated location. They all need reservations. We will be returning. Thank you to the staff there. Cons: Everything closes early (7 or 8pm local time), and limited food destination for on-demand food.

Beautiful resort tucked away just outside of Lisbon (40 min). Hotel has a golf course that is well designed but not in great shape (burnt out / dry) for which they ask a premium price. They do have 27 holes and I may have played the 9 that was not maintained as well as the other holes. Still definitely worth getting out. Resort has a spectacular pool that over looks the hills / golf course. Food options are very good from a buffet breakfast that had everything to many things to list. Dinner options were equally good. We had a family of 4 and had one of the larger rooms - perfect in size! Had a great time at the resort and likely will go back!

I cannot fathom why anyone would suggest to others to stay here outside of torture or diverting strangers away from more sought after locals. It’s pretty yes. But that’s what you’ll find in positive reviews while a positive star rating it does not merit. That of course because the property itself is paltry. Old, falling apart, weak staff, lack of availability, lack of customer service. Unable to provide usb connectors so they offered to charge my phone at the desk for me. An example of the pompous nature on the surface to charge a boatload while lacking any ability to service. Pools close at 7, everything does. Except overbooked and overpriced restaurants. As someone who researched thousand of reviews before booking this trip, disappointed at the misleading positivity of any. Lifetime platinum status was of course laughed at being a Ritz, but find it worth mentioning being how poor it’s been. Given a card saying status equals upgraded room and free coffee or tea in the room. Of course the room was not upgraded as I was simultaneously offered a printed confirmation of my reservation details for the room paid for. Why provide them together? Shower leaks onto the entire bathroom ground as the shower is elevated like an 80s living room to kitchen. Everything in room says if you take it you’ll pay $8, you’ll pay $25, etc. Like they’ve only had hooligans here and need to remind you of it. Very strange, even weaker is the Penha Longa. Portugal can and does do a lot better. You should as well.

This is a stunning property with historic buildings. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are three restaurants that have Michelin stars! (I am confident the other restaurants are great too). We had dinner at two - both were perfect in all ways. Our room was large and overlooked the quiet golf course. They have a beautiful, sprawling playground that my ten year old daughter loved. We will return next time we are in Portugal.

This resort does not honor Marriott Bonvoy loyalty benefits. As an elite member, we are offered complimentary room upgrades based on availability and late checkout based on availability (see pic). Agents informed me upon check in that next level room was sold out. This was not true as I brought up room search on my Marriott app and guess what, multiple rooms types above my booked one were available for the entire stay. I did this on day of checking in and next day as well, still showing full availability as no surprise as we were visiting in November, their off-season. (See pics). Again, day after staff told me they were 'sold out'. This property really should not lie to their guests, especially loyal members. I called Marriott customer service and they closed the reason being was that I was not a Titanium members. Wrong answer as I am but regardless, a different reason than the resort agents told me. If the owner of this property does not want to honor the Marriott brand standards for loyalty, then go independent and give up the Marriott flag. Otherwise, commit to your customers what the brand promises, it's why you fly that flag!

The location is absolutely stunning. Rooms are refurbished in certain sections, the monastery wing does not have a pleasant experience in the rooms. Not adequate signage/ visible signage to guide you around the resort. Some staff unable to understand English so as a foreigner it would take a while before you would be understood. You may need to follow up your orders at the bars as staff tend to forget too.

We spent 2 fabulous nights at Penha Longa and wow what a phenomenal experience. Everything was exceptional from our room to the restaurants, breakfast buffet, the pool, kids club and all the facilities. It was like playground heaven for our toddler. We went to the LAB Michelin star restaurant which was a special experience. It’s a genuine 5 star experience with amazing small touches like delicious chocolates on your bed at turn down, popcorn at 5pm, fruit skewers and carrots and cucumber at the pool and SPF sunscreen available. The gym is also exceptional. We absolutely loved our stay and cannot recommend it enough.

Pros: location, 10/10 front desk staff, comfy bed, huge property, the Michelin restaurants Cons: Not walkable to anything off site so you’re a bit stuck for food options. The on site restaurants are expensive even by Ritz standards and very mediocre (other than the Michelin restaurants). The B Lounge in the lobby charges over 20 euros for a G&T, and then the server will bring out stale chips and disappear for an hour. Breakfast was by far the most chaotic and anxiety inducing event I’ve ever participated in at any hotel. The management seems to believe that all of the servers need to be running and going as fast as possible, running all of the guests over, taking only the first part of their order, etc. It felt as though a table had been setup in the middle of a busy highway and I’m sitting there trying to enjoy my morning coffee. And to top it off, by far the worst thing about the resturants is that some guests let their children run wild, watch videos on their phone with the volume turned all the way up, and otherwise act in an incredibly obnoxious manner and nothing gets said to them.

We stayed for 10 days and it was great experience overall. The hotel is under the Ritz Carlton umbrella and it was clear from the service we were getting. Great service, constantly, by every single one person that was dealing with us. Glass of champagne on arrival, box of chocolates in the room, everyone was super nice, helpful and friendly. The hotel was on limited capacity but the indoor swimming pool and gym were open and some restaurants as well. In 10 days we basically didn't leave the resort as it's huge, super green and peaceful, amazing environment. They had enough things on the menu to keep trying new things every day. Breakfast was great as well, real honey on display was such a nice touch. We stayed in junior suite, then executive suite and lay night in imperial suite which has a jacuzzi and a sauna! All the rooms were nice and comfortable but could use a bit of modernization, but we felt like at home either way. I would really recommend this hotel if your want to relax, refresh, play golf, have your wedding there or just go experience some good service.

Stayed for two nights with my husband, and we had the best experience. For me the highlight is the staff , from the moment you checkin to the moment you leave, you feel that everything is been taken care of. You can truly disconnect and enjoy the experience. Highly recommend the Lab restaurant, as well. Every ingredient and taste will transport you to a place in Portugals history. Accommodations are great, there’s a sense of respect for the historic importance of the place infused with contemporary pieces of furniture. Overall, you will notice that every little detail is thoughtful and intentional to elevate your experience.

Starting with some positives, a really beautiful property set in an idyllic location, the service and Ritz Carlton Team was mostly good however training and small touches desperately missing… and now to the negatives, the overall atmosphere and ambience by the pool and on the golf course destroyed by the race track noise … also the quality and management of the golf course very poor and horribly overpriced for the quality…

Super nice hotel with great rooms, friendly staff and a great breakfast. Do avoid going to the breakfast at 9:30 if you do not have kids because it is quite the moment that all kids of the whole hotel go there and for us (couple no kids) there are better moments to go. The spa is also amazing and the gym is great.

I wouldn’t call it 5 star. Three of the restaurants were overpriced for avg and small quantity food. It’s dedicated to groups and families which I wish I had known prior. In one restaurant kids were screaming and pulling on curtains and staff said nothing. I can see why if their primary clientele is weddings, big events, and families but very frustrating nonetheless. LAB was incredible and in my view is the highlight of the hotel. There was a strike at the monuments for Portugal day and concierge overheard me voicing my concerns (kindly) about trying to figure out what to do.. he had an attitude and said “well how were we supposed to know.. that’s the point of a strike”… when I needed help it seemed like I would have to wait forever but when it came to times I didn’t need anything, they were non stop asking what they could help with. I’ve had much better stays in other Ritz Carlton’s. Disappointed cause I had high hopes for this one

This place is magical. The staff is absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, while in Portugal, I broke my ankle. The staff here went above and beyond to help our last day incredible , despite the circumstances. I will forever be grateful to all those in Portugal who helped us during this very difficult time. Their hospitality was such a blessing. Before I broke my ankle, we golfed at this resort and the b.views were breathtaking. It is a beautiful course and reasonably priced for being a Championship course. I loved staying here. The grounds are gorgeous and again, I cannot compliment the staff enough. I hope to come back again and stay at this amazing place.

Giving Penha Longa a 5 star review honestly seems like a disservice to the hotel. If I could give them more, I would in a heart beat. We stayed here with our 3 young children. This is the ultimate base for sightseeing with amazing services for the kids. They have a wonderful outdoor playground as well as a small indoor one in case it rains. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. The large outdoor chess set was a huge hit. We did the tepee in our room for the kids to play in. And, one of the best parts of our entire trip, our 5 and 3 year old did a pizza making class with the chefs in one of the kitchen. Super hands on and interactive. My kids had a blast and have already asked to come back next month! I can’t recommend the hotel and staff enough. Absolutely incredible!

The staff were so wonderful, kind, and accommodating! The resort is in a lovely location, which is close to nature, but also a short drive (15-20 minutes) to larger towns with good restaurants. Ubers are easy to call. The spa was great and the gym is top knotch!

Wonderful service, food and facilities! Great views from the infinity pool and the spa as well. The only downside is you need a cab to the closest supermarket or pharmacy. Otherwise it's been an overall great experience.

Not a five star hotel but more a big structure dedicated to groups and marriages. Very noisy every weekend. Full of big groups of Americans Poor service of the rooms. Poor cleaning. Ridiculous prices for the beverages compared to the rest of the country : ex:10€ for a pint They make students in internship do the work they are not supposed to do instead of professionals ( it would cost them more). After leaving the hotel I must add that the people of the management on site are really helpful, but have a lot to improve and think about.

Came here to attend a wedding. Our rooms weren't ready but the front desk helped us store our luggages while we explored the Resort. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a cranky toddler with me and the balloon he was given put a smile on his face. The playground was awesome! Thank you for a memorable stay at your resort.

It is good but not really wow. Anyone who has been to other 5 star or even 4 stars will understand what I say. It’s old, honestly. But yes it is very clean and they use Dyptique for their toiletries which is super nice. This place is in the mountain side, good for a retreat location.

Beautiful hotel ,good service, very quiet surrounded by nature and golf feels. Decent breakfast, 3 pools : one indoor , two outdoor , infinity pool adults only , and the main, where children are welcome. Service is helpful to book transport or restaurant.

The rooms themselves were dated and the elevator situation is not great. Buuuutttt, literally everything else was near perfection. The restaurants, especially lab were exceptional. The location is one of the prettiest I may have every seen for a resort. I even went on a little picture adventure that took me in the chapel and some ruins that was amazing. If you are in the lisbon area and don't stay here, you're making a large mistake!

Easily one of the top three hotel experiences I've ever had. The staff is truly extraordinary- even though I only was there for one night, they addressed me by name each time and were genuinely concerned about my experience. A super room upgrade with incredible views for my Bonvoy Gold status, a magnificent breakfast included...I can't say enough nice things about Penha Longa.

Had an amazing experience at this hotel resort! It offers all the amenities one could wish for, and the staff is truly the best. From comfortable accommodations to a range of facilities, it exceeded expectations. Can't wait to come back for another enjoyable stay!

This is our home away from home. From the moment you enter the doors and are greeted by their warm and welcoming reception team you feel like the holiday has truly started. From the amazing beds to breakfast and the gym amenities and beautiful grounds, this is where we come to rest from our busy working schedule. We’ve been coming every year with our family and hope to for the years to come. Thank you Penha Longa!

Wonderful place to stay with kids. The staff was all so nice. I would go back again. So many amenities for kids. There were a couple of negatives though: I would avoid the nachos at the restaurant by the pool. They are disgusting. It seems as though they were created by someone who has never tried or seen nachos and had only read about them in a book. Also, the Mercatto restaurant left a lot to be desired in terms of flavor and quantity of food.

Attended a wedding here. The location is excellent. The chapel was old times but really nice. The location for dinner was upstairs in a nice location. The service was truly excellent, but the food was just okay.... not what would be expected for the money that must have been paid by the hosts. The dance floor was good, and late night snacks were decent, but again, there was no value for the money paid. They just capitalize on the location for a "destination" wedding. It's definitely overrated, in my opinion. This is not a review for the hotel (thankfully, I did not stay here) but as a wedding venue. I will say it again : Staff were super.

This hotel was amazing for a family trip with kids. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you and your kid are having a good time. If you ever need any help Chad and Adriana are there to help you with what ever you need. They were so sweet to me and my family that I feel like we have family in Portugal and I can’t wait to go back!

Luxury stay with a professional and hospitable service. The staff are well trained to make you feel appreciated. Enjoyable Golf experience. Don’t miss the tour visit the 15th century monastery inside the resort. The long rock is the name to get the treasure. Keep up for the good to become better.

Lovely location and incredible staff. If really pushed to come up with a downside, is that they are not really setup to handle a lot of people, so either going with a large group or facing a particularly busy period will result in long waiting times from the (regardless) very friendly service staff. Otherwise a perfect experience for me, my wife and our small 10 month old baby daughter, who just loved to splash around in their great pools. Of important note is that we would often come up with crazy requests, like ordering off the menu or asking to accommodate some incoming guests or ours for the day, and not once did the incredible people here let us down.

Beautiful place in Sintra and best service.Amazing attention to detail from Joao Rocha at check-in and we will be coming back. Also pool service was great thanks to Mohammed. I would give six ⭐

Beautiful hotel, great rooms and great service. I dont play golf and had plenty to do with a 4 day stay. We went to Sintra and Cascais, which are both a 10 minute drive away, and suggest a visit. No need to rent a car as both Uber and Bolt work well. For food I loved the morning breakfast where there is a buffet and a la carte. My negatives are expensive bar and pool food which wasnt great quality. Room service delivery was a 10 euro delivery fee! So we actually ordered uber eats for cheaper and better quality food. We ate at Midori, Arola and Spices restaurants. Midori and Arola were really good and recommend, Spices was just ok. Rooms were very clean and well made up every day. Turn down service every night with chocolate and water bottles provided. Great positive of the room was the Nespresso machine with always filled up coffee pods. There was a big corporate group when we were staying, they were quite disruptive and loud in the evening. We did mention this at the front desk and they reviewed cctv and did talk to the guests in question. Pools were lovely, though these weren't heated. Overall, i would easily stay here again. Service was the best I've had in a while.

Beautiful place do relax, a great luxury resort with All the activities you can think of, from golf, to spa or even live shows of classic music, ballet, or cultural events. Located in one of the most outstanding regions of the big Lisbon, Sintra and the surroundings are absolutely a can't miss region to visit. Treat yourself with this trip to you deserve it ;-)

Very cool resort in a good location, close to Lisbon and in a national park, with a nice looking golf course. Got upgraded to a junior suite with an outside patio which was nice but not quite what I’d consider a “suite” relative to other places I’ve stayed. Food options were great with several restaurants and a great bar, but service was kind of slow at times with only one bartender. It was kind of annoying that you have to pay for mini golf and other small activities that you would think would just be free, but RC properties seem to do their own thing in that sense. Definitely a beautiful place though with cool walking trails, but expect the usual RC service, maybe an occasional upgrade but nothing super above and beyond in terms of status.

Such a stunning resort with breathtaking views. Property has the most gorgeous 14th century monastery that’s been well-maintained and several restaurants including Lab, a Michelin star restaurant. However what really stood out for me was the staff. Everyone was so accommodating.

  • 4/5 Bryan J H. 2 years ago on Google
Staff and service is a 10/10. The restaurant options are all very good and the location is convenient from Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais. Beautiful property and great golf course. The negatives would be 1) rooms were a bit outdated (no movies or streaming options on TVs) and 2) the gym / spa was tired. Older gym equipment and the jacuzzi is not hot, plunge pool is not cold

A beautiful location with an ancient monastery that is well preserved and has beautiful traditional Portuguese tiles inside. We stayed in a Deluxe Room with a Garden View. The room was nice and spacious and had everything we needed. Unfortunately, the view wasn’t so much on the garden as it was on the breakfast hall - this was a disappointment because we came for my partner’s birthday and specifically requested a nice view in a quiet part of the resort. Positive: beautiful location, many activities (tennis, golf, volleyball, football, pools, hiking paths, biking paths, monastery, gardens), the room size, the bathroom, the coffee, friendly people at the reception. Negative: stale food for breakfast (baked goods didn’t taste fresh, limited selection of bread, old tomatoes, flies landing on meat, no vegan yogurts at the buffet), strong cigarette / tobacco smell around the lift area that spreads along the entire corridor, expensive services for the hotel guests (just renting a golf cart costs 30€/h), dirty carpets in the room and outside, the outdoor plastic chess pieces were broken which is a shame for a hotel that has five stars, the mini-bar items were somehow disproportionately expensive (more expensive than at the airport), not even a single bottled water offered for free, no restaurant offers outside seating (at in December) which is a shame and rather surprising during the corona times (the reason given was “we don’t have lights outside”).

Long overdue review, from January of 2022. Absolutely amazing guest relations, from the check in process to the restaurant concierge, we were treated like royalty. This was our first stay in Portugal, and was such a welcoming experience. The breakfast (and servers/attendants) were the best in Portugal. This is a special, wonderful place because of the employees, and we so appreciated everyone who works there. We also went to dinner at one of the Michelin starred restaurants, which we enjoyed, but with so many quality options in the area, probably would not return as it cost more than a two night stay.

I stayed here for a women's golf trip in October 2021. The trip had been postponed a couple of times due to the pandemic. Wow was it worth the wait!!! I do not have enough time or words to express my gratitude to the hotel staff for such an amazing experience. Not only was the resort and its grounds (it was a family's estate) gorgeous, the service, and food (and wine) was over the top fantastic! Every single meal, quick bite or snack was delicious. From the front desk staff to housekeeping to the banquet staff to the golf course staff were exceptional. This was definitely one of my favorite hotel stays in 2021 because of the Penha Longa Resort and their commitment to show me and our group a fantastic time for my (first) trip to Lisbon, Portugal. BTW they have three or four Michelin star restaurants on resort grounds. I HIGHLY recommend you book a reservation as far in advance as possible because they are all popular and book quickly.

  • 5/5 Phyllis A. 2 years ago on Google
It was a great place. You can spend weeks exploring and never see all the grounds. Pool-excellent, Food-spectacular, Service-impeccable, Golf Course looked well groomed. Everywhere you looked you saw lush greenfields. I am sure I am not hitting all the highlights but, it was a great stay. I hope you get a chance to experience this wonderful place.

If you have a car the location is not bad, but it is a bit off the beaten path. On the other hand, if you have a car, it's 20 minutes away from all the cool castles. The grounds are huge! They even have a few ruins of their own right next to the main building. We've encountered the best service in Portugal right here.

Great place to relax with the family and beautiful scenery. Service is great for the hotel staff and rooms. The restaurant and pool service is a bit slower than what we are used to in the US so any room for improvement would be there. But def recommend the resort for anyone in the sintra area.

Penha Longa, located in Sintra, is one of the most beautiful resorts and wedding venues I have been too as a destination wedding photographer. I adore the location, the staff (they are so friendly and professional). You can host a wedding here and have everything you need, room accommodations, perfect spots for your wedding (and portraits) and a great view. Bonus that it is not far from Lisbon Airport. Would recommend anyone to have their wedding here!

Lovely hotel with friendly attentive staff. Still struggling post covid with staff shortages but managing it quite well by rotating opening of restaurants. Be sure to book a restaurant in advance.

Great product and location. Service very friendly and natural too, even thought it's a Ritz Carlton and they have their credo which needs to be memorized. There is an obvious lack of maintenance in several areas which should not happen for any hotel, much less this level. Lacking daily supervision and walking the property
