OK, I'm going to start my review with a quiz for your next hotel staff meeting! There are two fundamentals that every hotel on the planet MUST achieve before anything else, these are ONE of the following, is it; 1. Designer staff uniforms and a wonderful reception lobby? 2. Expensive artwork and a piano in the common areas? 3. Nice quality, clean, quiet guest room and a great night's sleep? 4. A superb location on the seafront like ours, so we don't have to worry about anything else?! I know the reception staff are hoping for number 1. And the management, especially the pianist in the group, thinks its number 2! But unfortunately its number 3! And your hotel failed miserably! Those terrible guests that pay your wages want their rooms improved and need to stop the owners buying another sculpture...! Horrid people! Anyway, I'm sure theirs some specialist quality coffee and a muffin in the corner of your meeting room to go have a little sob over! OK, here's my story; I usually stay at the Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & Spa in Cascais, but just 2 minutes walk away was this very designer boutique hotel called the Farol Hotel, right on the water and looked amazing! Don't judge a book by its cover comes to mind... but in this case, in the wrong way!! I decided to leave my usual haunt and try them out... what a big mistake! As you walk in, all looks amazing, artwork everywhere, smart, polite reception staff, designer furniture, piano, quality drapery etc. etc! Then you get to your room! That's where it all ends abruptly! Small dark room, broken switches, stained carpet, ikea quality furniture, shower pressure of a twisted garden hose and mold on the shower tray (see my photos)! They definitely dont extend their expensive furniture or quality into the room! Twice the price of my usual room across the road and of an incredibly lower quality! I should have just treated myself to the Grand Suite, twice the size and incredible quality, in my other hotel for the same price! Never stay in room 102! There are two sewage pipes coming down from the upstairs rooms with a thin boxing over them, with no sound insulation. All evening and many times during the night, it's like sleeping just outside a shower cubicle that keeps coming on! Breakfast was dire, no where near where a 5 star hotel should be. Terrible selection and of average quality. Also, just before we left the room at 7.50am for breakfast we heard noise outside our door, as we opened the door a cleaner was surrounding our doorway with room cleaning gear (see photo)! Like saying, "hope you're leaving soon"!! It's seems to me that you are paying for them to buy more expensive artwork and furniture for the reception and lobbies. Got to be the worst room I've ever paid 300€ for 1 night for! So if that's what you're into, good luck, but I'm going back to the Grande Real Villa Itália in future. P.S. You got 1 star for question number 4.! But see my photos... is this a 5 star hotel room?!!

Definitely not a 5 Star Hotel. I stayed in 300+ hotels almost all ratings, and this one is certainly not among the top rated ones. The one star is because they deceive and are not accommodating. After booking - during which we were not informed via the site that the pool and hot tub are not accessible - we came to the place. Pool and hot tub not accessible, and the front desk manager told me it’s visible on the website. I just checked again (have screen recording) and nowhere it states they are not accessible. They do not accommodate us with nearby spa access they mentioned. There is also an “interesting” smell across the hotel and stains and scratched throughout each floor and room. The breakfast was dull, tasteless and not a buffet as advertised. A small selection of items only, and we needed to add salt and spicy sauce to get flavor. I booked the hotel - although I live nearby - to relax in a hot tub and pool. I paid for a few days in a “five star” hotel without this, and will need to get my food somewhere else. There are bigger problems in the world, but paying a fortune for something that is not as sold is not ok. I rather spend the money on supporting good causes that have an impact in the world than this experience.

It’s not a bad place, but CARTON (paper) cocktail straws to me is an absolutely horrible solution both for the comfort AND the environment. Try macaroni instead, it truly works, does not destroy trees AND the mood in the end 🤪 The hotel is ok, sushi restaurant way overpriced for what it is (minus 0.5 for the restaurant pricing, minus 1.5 for the straws). Actually more -2 for the straws, whoever came up with this bizarre idea 🤨

Lovely hotel, with staff who couldn’t do enough. We didn’t book a room with a sea view, but it was lovely anyway. We were also welcomed with champagne for our honeymoon. Very nice! Thank you! One small bit of feedback, stop charging for the bike usage, should be included for a 5 star restaurant.

Beautiful hotel with great staff! Excellent customer service! The pool can’t be beat and the location is walkable to restaurants. I would definitely come back!

Do NOT trust the 5/5 ratings, the only possible explanation is that they are incentivizing people to give them a high rating. And do not trust the splashy photos, the first thing concierge says upon arrival is that "people see those photos and think that's what they're getting." Yet they still charge as if it's a high caliber hotel, it is definitely NOT. Many of the rooms are very small, deteriorating, and GROSS! Save your money. Staying at this hotel (should really be called motel) was by far the most negative aspect of our trip to beautiful Portugal. Absolutely terrible management, lots of misleading statements. The front line staff is doing their best but it seems the owner is just looking to extract as much money as possible with as little investment as possible.

Absolutely atrocious service! Booked two of the same rooms directly through the hotel. They charged one room at 430 Euros and one room at 860 Euros, even though I emailed and confirmed. No managers on site. When we first checked in they gave us one room that smelled like sewage. One of the workers told us that that’s the room that has issues and why the person who had checked in the day prior had checked out. Some hallways are completely dark with no lighting. Some rooms have no sound barrier. This is not a 5 star hotel. We were here for a wedding and were having a great time otherwise, but the hotel service was the worst part of our trip. Never experienced anything like this in all our travel experience.

Wonderful hotel with prime location in cascais. A’ la carte breakfast with eggs, omelets, pancakes and waffles. We where there in the end of march so it was a little to early for the pool to be open. We would like to try to spend some time at the pool area, but then we just have to come again 😊

Amazing place to stay! From the impeccable staff to the fantastic food and drinks everything was simply perfect. Elvin and Salvador at the Bar on the Rocks recommended local drinks and beer with friendly and welcoming greetings. Joel and Eric served us with excellent food and amazing sangria's at the bar and pool. Manuel and Pedro helped us get the perfect ocean view suite and recommended amazing restaurants near by. The breakfast and dinners at the hotel were outstanding and provided with smiles and hospitality from the gracious staff. Thank you for being such wonderful hosts, we plan on coming back someday to visit again.

This is hotel is more of a 4 star property at best. Every room is different and I’m sure some of the very high priced suites are nice. The garden view rooms are actually parking lot view and street view which makes them quite noisy when you have the window open. The air condition blows right on the bed so it is impossible to sleep with it on. The room had a very very strong odour which when inquired I was told is the signature scent of the hotel but was not present in the room I switched to. If you like strong scents perhaps you won’t mind it. The hotel is a smoke free property but someone was smoking all night and the entire room smelled because the door has a lot of space around it. The drinks at the outdoor bar are not great and very expensive for the quality. The hotel is a 15 min walk to town via a boardwalk which is quite nice. There is bike rentals for the wonderful paved bike trail that starts in front of the hotel. The morning breakfast is ok but selection is not great. Outside of the view of the ocean, location and outdoor pool there isn’t a ton of value in the room or service. Save your money and book some of the other great properties in town.

I recommended this to a friend who travels a lot and knows a typical 5* hotel and is a demanding person I will admit; however this is NOT a 5* hotel and their week long visit was marred by choosing this hotel…amazing location but the furnishings in the lobby and rooms are extremely dated and there is much of the external part of the hotel that is in need of serious investments. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would say the images here on Google are very misleading.

We were stay across the road. We came in for a drink and was met by a very nice gentleman who invited us in and opened the door.. The two bar staff Tatiana and her colleague who's name I missed .. (he had some time in Jersey.. ) both delivered us excellent service during our time in the bar area.. I would highly recommend this establishment. I feel quite sure I'll come and stay here in the future

Great service and beautiful modern hotel. Do not stay in the 100 rooms. Many of them are below the restaurant which meant very load noises in the early am and late night. Almost the sound of moving furniture above you with the occasional construction sounding work going on.

Also checkout the happy hour 4-6 at this very cool hotel chateau on the cliff. It has the most beautiful sunset cliff view, music and sangrias Instagram perfect.

Brilliant stay for 3 nights. Incredible location and views into the Atlantic. 10 min walk from the historic centre of Cascais. Scooters outside to go round town. A lovely old style hotel that’s tried to keep close to its form; our room had a big wooden beam in the middle and the doors were “old” - not negative things. The whole hotel’s interior design is very art-focussed and seems to collaborate with artists / art projects often - very cool. Food and drinks were great at the hotel venue itself but a little expensive for what you get. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Cascais.

The location is great, but the rest kind of average. The hotel is quite ‘rustic’ in a bad sense because you can sense that things are old and falling apart. Additionally, service is poor. A chair broke in my room just by sitting on it and they insisted on charging for it - please update your furniture instead relying on it breaking and then having customers pay for it. Avoid

We spent the afternoon at the pool as non guests and for the 75 Euro fee it included food and drinks. It was a wonderful day especially because the pool employees- Francisco and Alex - were absolutely gracious and helpful which made our afternoon even better. The pool overlooks the ocean and it was dreamy watching the passing boats, swimmers and wave runners on such a sunny breezy day.

Definitely not a 5 star hotel, but not a bad hotel. Our biggest complaint was the horrible moldy smell in the bathroom, which was sometimes more pungent than other times. With the bathroom door closed, it was ok. The best thing about the hotel were the views and the shower (many different settings). Breakfast was fine as well. If I go back to Cascais, I would choose a different place to stay.

My review was rejected by hotel because they only want good reviews. Aug 2022 Liked · breakfast was fine, not much option available. room was fine, we saw some spider web on the corners of the room, bathroom was very clean, nice and comfort beds.location is plus point. Disliked · spider web on the rooms corners, and as we request extra bed and last day 10cm long centipede came from mattress, after that my daughter didn't want to sleep on that mattress as that's was our last night we managed in one bed. I will suggest before putting ma tress in the room put in the sun or put some medicine to kill insects. She now with trauma and where ever now we are going we are not requesting for extra beds.

This is one of my favorite spots to go for an end-of-day tea. The location is unsurpassed, and the decoration quite appealing. Situated right on top of the rocks leading to the Atlantic, this spot will calm you down and fill your spirit. Worth a visit, definitely!

Such a great location looking out over the sea. Fantastic service. Room needed a mirror in the bedroom and more accessible plugs but was very comfortable and great ensuite ,but beware shower head position which can cause bathroom flood!

I stayed with my family for a week at the beautiful Farol hotel and we loved every second of it. The staff was super welcoming and helpful. We received an upgrade when we checked-in to a room with sea view which was a real addition to our stay. The breakfast staff were familiar with you and your preferences after the first day, but especially Catarina Mendes at the reception was super helpful, kind and professional during the entire stay. She was always aware of everything and showed genuine interest in your experience. Overall an amazing holiday and we will definitely return.
