What a waste of space! Such a shame, I couldn't believe the level of service and food offerings, so much so that I became curious and started speaking to the manager over many days. It turns out that the owner doesn't want to pay above minimum wage and that it is extremely difficult to find staff to come out of the way to the sticks by spending extra on petrol/time etc. Completely understandable from the staff's perspective! The owners are certainly "Dollar wise and cents foolish". This has great potential in becoming one of the best places in the region, the only heated large pool in the whole of Lisbon/Cascais area and a great space to bring people together as culinary destination also.

I don’t usually leave bad reviews but this is an exception. I want to also say, that I emailed emailed the hote with all these complaints afterwards and did not receive an apology, instead they completely invalidated my experience and denied everything. My complaint below outlines how we were put into a room with a broken shower that leaked (they said thanks for the reminder in the email reply that I sent), rude staff, A video camera that had months of travelling footage which went missing from my room and an overall below average experience. I stayed here back in October with my partner, we live in Lisbon and wanted to spend our anniversary here, we were very excited and booked massages too. Upon arriving to our room, our guest handbook had pages missing we were looking for information on the spa and room service (this didn’t phase us but it became one of the many issues). Secondly. our massages which were costly, were just below average, it did not feel like any other good massage I have ever had. We had asked could we use the pool after and they said yes. but once we left our massage room to walk to the pool a staff member approached us and told us we had to check in and pay, which did not make sense, because once we went to the desk they said it was charged to our room, we felt uncomfortable by the staff member so we went back to our room. Our room was large and very spacious but the shower in our room, leaked all over the bedroom multiple times, quite badly. After our stay I emailed this to the manager who said they knew about it and thanked us for the reminder? Why are the putting guests in this room? Especially on off season when the hotel was practically empty. Lastly I had a vintage video camera with months of travel footage that never left the room, go missing from our room. I emailed after our stay upon realising and they said it was never found even though I have photos of the camera in the room. Again I emailed this to the hotel before making this review but upon their reply which was complete inappropriate I thought it was best to warn future guests. Yes, this looks like a beautiful hotel with a spa, by the beach - technically it should tick all boxes but it’s not worth it. The overall experience while you are there is cold, hostile and unhelpful. I would 100% recommend booking elsewhere. Especially since a very important item of mine went missing from my room which another reviewer pointed out but I dismissed it, I wish I didn’t.

Room is fantastic. I think from my travel experience, this is the first hotel in Europe with a huge room. It's elegant, nice and clean also. Shower and bath tub work perfect, hot and cold water was also perfect. This hotel is also the only Europe hotel - to my experience - has a jet washer installed in a closet. Usual European hotels only have paper toilet. It has a golf facility, club house, nice swimming pool, perfect for family vacation. However the surrounding scenery was not that green, still need further development. Location also is very far from the city.

30 euro charge for food delivery when their on site restaurants don’t cater to dietary restrictions. No halal no kosher no vegan options. Seriously consider this when choosing to stay here as the on site staff are NOT willing to make exceptions.

I have strict dietary requirements so I had to deliver food to the hotel. They wanted to charge me 30 Euros in fees because I'm not eating at their restaurant. I've been to many, many hotels and this is the first time I've ever encountered this. This is intolerable and discriminatory. Overpriced hotel with abyssmal service. Would never return and would advise others not to stay here.

Disappointingly overpriced breakfast and bad service! We went there only to have breakfast and play golf. The hotel charges EUR 30 per person for the only choice of breakfast (buffet), price that was not nearly close reflecting the price average of the other high-end hotels' buffet breakfast in the area. On top of that, even if they had plenty of staff in the restaurant, they never delivered the one thing we ordered ourselves: a caffe latte. The location is ok if you only want to play golf and sit by a small pool with no view, otherwise, the area is quite deserted and has no good views compared to what you find in Cascais area.

Ignore the poor service reviews at your peril - I got food poisoning from the food at the Buffett, and that is when you pay the price of poor service through two lost days of holiday. Alas, I had read the other reviews about poor service but was drawn in by the beautiful setting, facilities of the hotel and reasonable price and dismissed the reviews from others hoping that perhaps things had gotten better. After all, I don’t need people fawning over me, and there are always some people who are simply difficult and can’t be pleased. Unfortunately, when staff are sloppy, things like food poisoning can happen - making a single batch of sausages in the AM and leaving them out for 4 hours is probably too obviously a health hazard, if only I had noticed before. But it was not just the food poisoning itself - the first night our aircon was broken so we slept poorly, then had to move rooms because it could not be repaired. Of course not everyone is bad, the concierge desk makes a real genuine effort and the room cleaning staff work v hard. But poor service is never accidental when it is this endemic, it is the simple consequence of poor management. So why is this hotel so poorly managed? 1. The Hotel is owned by a v wealthy old local family. This little hotel is just financially insignificant for them, and so they really don’t actually care. There is an abandoned graffitied villa on the path to the equestrian centre which is still being fought over by the family descendants apparently. 2. Because of the golf course, the hotel captures a steady stream of corporate bookings and golfers who opt for onsite convenience. So frankly the poor service of the hotel just doesn’t really have commercial consequences, so then why take action? Remember, a “5 star” rating is only about functional services like having room service, its not a reflection or actual rating of service levels, so don’t let the rating fool you. Last but not least, as per the other reviews, there is still a lot of construction going on all around the hotel (including a huge block next to the clubhouse), so you will definitely have a steady sound of drilling or digging when lying by the pool during weekdays. Sadly, a wasted holiday and we will certainly not return.

Horrible! The staff were unfriendly, the hotel threatened to call the police on us, there were unwelcomeing wide open spaces which could have been used for activities and in spite of the over expensive price of 500€ a night!, they wanted us to pay for the use of the indoor pool. Be careful which hotel you stay in! Though the breakfast was nice.

Look like and feels like a cheap factory building. damaged flooring in the rooms, way too expensive. Cold - not cosy at all. Staff not accommodating and no clue how to deal with guests. Classic music like at an undertakers most of the time, Stay somewhere else and just come for breakfast

A curious place - has all the hall-marks of a bond villain's lair as you pull up and as others have noted, is quite cavernous to the point of being cold. Rooms are large with a quirky layout; I assume they're trying to be modern and upmarket but missing the mark. Simple things like having no towel radiators are just an annoyance. Day-time staff helpful and friendly, the night staff threatened our group saying they'd call the police if we made too much noise after-hours! Pool is lovely and slightly salinated - and it's heated which wasn't apparent from the website; a welcome bonus. Seems like air-conditioning is something the hotel doesn't really believe in, room A/C sub par which ancient controls and only seemed to work near the shower and balcony, none around the bed area which is needed when the weather gets warm. Breakfast buffet was very good with decent choice, lovely fresh fruit and pancakes/waffles made to order. All in all, a good hotel that is trying to get to that luxury market but ultimately falls short.

We stayed at The Oitavos for 3 nights. The hotel claims to be a “Five Star Resort”, but they are more like a mediocre four star resort. Cons: the hotel is cold and unwelcoming, the service is subpar (whether that’s waitstaff, room service, concierge or the front desk), the spa is laughable (the material on my massage table was cracked and the masseuse was terrible and didn’t speak to you at all. Not to mention, the spa pool was rusting and clearly not taken care of), the receptionist at the spa was rude (she made a point to ask us numerous times if we were staying the hotel since guests were only permitted to use the hotel), and the food was hit or miss (the golf course restaurant was the best but only open for lunch and early dinner. The pool restaurant food was good one day and bad the next. The downstairs restaurant had the best tables for sunset constantly “reserved” but no one ever showed?). The front desk tried to charge us an additional 100 euro at the end of our stay because they were disorganized and charged us for an airport transfer we had paid for in cash on the first day. I would not stay here again. Ever. Pros: the rooms are by far the largest I’ve ever seen in an European country, the location was within minutes of Cascais (not walkable though), and the view was beautiful. I’ve been at Hilton Hotels that have better service than this alleged “Five Star Resort.” Word of advice- use the money to stay somewhere worth its value.

This hotel is so huge & spacious we always have an area to have our small groups meetings. It’s clean and environmentally conscious. However the service staff at lunch were not very service oriented. We checked with them the dishes at the buffet and the staff took the labels and asked us to read. Yes the ingredients were written but we don’t understand that’s why we asked.

Very nice hotel with large rooms. Good place to stay for relaxing, playing golf and enjoying the Atlantic Ocean. Seafood is delicious, very well done.

Although the hotel, golf course and everything in this hotel are fantastic, the most valuable for this luxury accommodation are their employees. They are simply unbelievable. Thanks everybody at the staff for making a great stay. We will be back sure in the near future to this magnificent hotel.

From someone who travels a lot... Oitavos, or Big Blue, as I like to call it, is an interesting place. The reviews we read beforehand left us perplexed but the photos (and the golf) sold us. We were shocked and unhappy by the looks of it when we arrived. However, we really warmed to the place, quite a lot. At first glance, it's an oddly gigantic space that they didn't quite fill appropriately so it feels cold and empty, at least the common areas do. But the points of the hotel that matter the most i.e. room, included breakfast, pool, view, service, were wonderful. Here are the pro and cons. Pros -Enormous rooms. Minimalist and super cool. Very comfortable bed. -The balcony is also enormous and feels luxurious to have. Doors open fully to the room so the outdoors come in. -The breakfast is easily, EASILY the best we've ever had while traveling. A huge spread of everything hot and cold and whole fruits. If you want an entire mango, you can have it. I'd go back just for the breakfasts. - The pool is wonderful. Heated, large, wonderful surroundings. - If you golf, it is outstanding. Windy at times but phenomenal. And you can drive the cart to the course directly from the hotel. - Glorious shower. (Yes, if you point the hand held nozzle towards the door, it will leak into the room, so don't do that. -We had great experiences with the staff. Not a single problem and we asked them many questions. - Free parking and lots of it. - Lovely walking and biking paths. - Great location to beaches and the town of Cascais. - The view of the ocean and golf. Cons - Feel exceptionally big and empty in areas. Lack of atmosphere and slightly sterile vibe in common areas. - I love a spa but this one was not enticing, though I can't speak specifically about it as I didn't go (because it was not enticing.) - Bizarre facade. The facade that faces the ocean is lovely. The facade that you see when you enter the hotel is bizarre and quite ugly, which is off-putting. If you asked me when we arrived if we'd stay there again, I would have said "hec no!". But ask me now after our 4 night stay, I would definitely go back. Extras: We didn't eat any meals besides breakfast there so can't speak to that. But we walked to a wonderful local seafood place called Marea and it was special. Cascais is a sweet town. Hard to park so good luck. If you have a car, drive to Cabo da Roca but especially to Praia da Adraga.. One of the most stunning beaches I've seen.

We came here for a conference of about 1200 people and I would say that the hotel accommodated it decently. The first day was a bit of a rush to set up the event but the second day was good . The hotel is just outside of Cascais. The staff seems friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel and super happy to see how they provide their excess meals to REFOOD, a local charity that distributes to the local community in need. Absolutely amazing and will refer all my friends here because of this kind gesture they offer.

😀 The service was excellent, the level of cleanliness was very high, the restaurant was wonderful, the breakfast was varied and delicious, and the location of the hotel is great But as for the negatives 😕 The hotel rooms need maintenance, as well as the external facilities, as well as the sports center, which is completely in need of maintenance And the bathrooms of the rooms are annoying, and that is because nothing separates them from the room except for glass I give a rating of 8.5 for this hotel

Wonderful hotel. Best breakfast spread we have experienced. But - it is best if you have your own car, or are okay with taking taxis into Cascais. The coastal walk is beautiful, but it's about an hour in to town. The hotel food is pricey, but it is also luxurious. All in all, it is exactly what we wanted for a quiet, relaxing week full of long walks and mimosas at breakfast.

Stayed there in a business event. It’s amazing the size and comfort of the rooms. The place is very calm and the facilities are good.

People were nice. Hotel was modern and have nice conference rooms. All you could expect from a high end hotel with a golf park. Although regarding quality/price ratio is not of the best ones.

I live in Lisbon, and this was a weekend staycation for me, and I cannot wait to return and book my next visit here. From the front desk, to the concierge, to the breakfast and dining staff, the menu, the rooms (omg), the views, everything is quite literally perfect. It's close enough for a little escape from the city and summer heat, and it's close enough for a quick stroll down to the sea (though there is a pool and it wasn't crowded), or inland for a hike, a bike ride, etc. Of course, if golf is your thing, there's plenty of that around. It was super peaceful, quiet, the environment and ambiance couldn't have been better. If you can, please do not skip this property -- the family management really make you feel quite at home and you're on a proper holiday.

Big plus is that the rooms and areas are very spacious. Service wasnt the best. During lunch, it wasnt possible to eat at the hotel and you had to use the “bistro” on the golf course which was overpriced and sold out multiple meals. Other than that, all good.

Staff super friendly (Pedro of the conciergerie in particular) and nice hotel with a great view on the surroundings. The rooms are very large but questionable space organization (shower in front of the door?). Besides that, a quiet stay even if it was for business.

This is a really lovely resort just outside of Cascais. The room was huge and immaculate, with every amenity you can think of. We stayed in a corner room, which had a spectacular view of the pool and the coast. Breakfast was lovely each morning - the buffet had a ton of choice, and there was also the option to order egg dishes/waffles/crepes fresh from the kitchen, which always came promptly. The pool area was wonderful, and never overly crowded. The Dunes golf course was excellent as well, and the golf concierge was helpful. The hotel has a shuttle to take you into Cascais, and it's easy and inexpensive to get an Uber back. Overall, this place is excellent and I would recommend it. The only major issue is that the area is so lovely, that many houses are going up around the resort and golf course, which causes constant noise, and there are cranes EVERYWHERE. There is a huge house going up very near the golf clubhouse, which blocks the water view.
