Food was fine, decent but not amazing. We didn’t think it was special or tastier than other places in Bologna. Prices were reasonable and excellent service. We had a reservation on a Saturday but the restaurant was pretty empty around 730pm.

Terrible at everything! Nothing to write home about, sheer disappointment. I love a good Italian osteria and feel strongly that there are many better ones in Bologna. Do not waste your time on this place.

Flavio was very kind and flexible with me and I was fortunate enough to sit for dinner. My time at Tratorria di Via Serra was like having dinner at a family friend’s house. It was simple, authentic and clearly portrayed the experiences of Flavio and Tomasso’s upbringing. It is not often, if not ever— that I feel moved by such a meal, but this truly changed me. It was a culmination of passion and simplicity that will leave anyone marked, if your heart welcomes. Thank you Flavio, Tomasso & Team. Your hospitality extended far beyond the plate.

The hidden gem of Bologna is located not far from the main train station. Trattoria DI Via Serra is a must visit restaurant to set your course for traditional bolognese cuisine. Within the unassuming neighborhood that boosts this powerhouse restaurant that gathered many awards, adds to your desire to try their food. Restaurant layout in a simplistic manner that is governed by a few service staffs, ensures service optimally and fluidity. Reservations by calling in are seriously recommended to avoid disappointment. The tortellini in chicken broth, certainly reveal the quality of the pasta and the meat fillings just balances the entire dish, making it this standout dish a sumptuous treat. The sheer pleasure of delights when such simple food that can be elevated to such finesse level amazes your palate that would be simply an indulgence. Certainly a recommended visit to any travelers visiting Bologna.

Authenticity, simplicity, and flavor are the best words to describe this wonder of Bologna. Our experience was lovely. The staff was very friendly, especially the co-owner who welcomes you at the entrance and make you feel comfortable. The dishes were delicious and fresh. To go along with that, the house wine is a pleasant surprise, especially the white! All of this with fair prices. Overall a great discovery! Make sure you book several days (weeks?) in advance!

What a magical place!!! This small local restaurant does only one lunch and one dinner seating but it’s so worth it. The owner is so welcoming (provided you have reservation or are very lucky) as restaurant only sits 35 people. He speaks Italian and English and explains the menu in full. Origins of all ingredients, types of cooking, specials of the day. The menu only has 4 starters, 4 pasta dishes and 3 mains, with daily specials in each category too. We left around €55 per person for an absolute feast here including wine.

One of the best meals of my life, no exaggeration. I will always remember this one. You will need to book a reservation for this place or line up before it opens. My wife and I lined up 15 min before it opened at 7pm on a Saturday night in October, and we were the last of about 4 couples to be let in without reservations. During our meal, they were constantly turning away people who arrived who did not have reservations so be warned. When we arrived, the chef presented his detailed, thoughtful authentic bolognese menu to everyone before we sat down which was very charming. My wife and I each ordered a full 4 course meal with wine, and everything was delicious. The highlights were the pastas - a pumpkin and cheese tortelloni, and a tortellini in broth - see the attached photos for all courses. The chef and serving staff were kind and helpful. The place had a simple, warm and authentic atmosphere as well. If you can get your foot through the door, be ready for an incredible cuisine experience.

Amazing! The food was incredible, the service was super friendly. Make sure you book in advance by phone! We booked 3 weeks in advance. We saw at least 5 groups turn up hoping to get a table. To book you'll need to call them. Don't worry if you don't speak Italian, they speak English very well.

This was our first meal in Bologna and they set a high mark.. Dinner hit all the high notes the regional cuisine has to offer..All the ingredients are chosen and cooked with obvious care. A full run of antipasti, primi and segundi was almost over-kill...This is rich and flavorful cooking and we were fairly stunned by the end of it.. The decent house red wine by the liter is a bargain as well.. The service is good and the owner and staff happy to explain the dishes. Eat and drink with gusto but reservations a must...

My favorite restaurant in Bologna. Not only is the good incredibly good (try the tortellini) but the staff makes the extra effort to make you feel at home. They even take the time to explain the entire menu in both Italian and English. Will come back anytime. It’s essential to book in advance.

This is a small restaurant, easy to miss, but should be part of the itinerary of anyone visiting this area! The food is simple and delicious, all pasta handmade - you’ll feel like you have an Italian grandma that has just cooked for you! Friendly staff and good service. I had the house wine and the tortelloni… delicious! I wish I was hungrier and could have tried the starters and desserts as well!

Amazing place , delicious Italian food and delightful desert, a chocolate cake that just melted in my mouth. The only little thing for improving - the cutlery could be better, the desert fork had a sharp smell of metal which a bit ruined the delicate taste of the cake

Luckily we managed to get a table on a Saturdsy night without being organised enough to book. We had to sit outside so can't comment on the atmosphere. The restaurant was fully booked and although there appeared only to be 2 staff working, we were nevertheless well looked after. The food was lovely, I had the bolognase and my husband the beef stew. Well, they call it beef stew but it was just beef (very tasty) and came without anything else so we had to order accompanying potatoes. The food was delicious and worth a visit.

Absolutely delicious pasta. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Best bet for getting a table is to go there a few days before to book or turn up at 7 and ring on the bell.

A highlight of our time in Bologna! Simple food done well with fresh ingredients and incredible flavours. Highly recommend getting there as soon as they open to guarantee a seat as it gets full quickly!

Imagine this: you’re 6 year-old again, it’s Sunday, and your grandma has been cooking lunch since early morning. Trattoria di Via Serra feels exactly like this. A throwback of childhood, comfort, and familiar coziness. The ingredients are simple yet so rich in flavor and delicate at the same time. We enjoyed every single dish and cannot wait to be back to try even more. Highly recommend everything, from the antipasti to dessert. A note also goes to the personnel. The owner welcomed us on a Sunday without a reservation and gave us the perfect quiet table and checked in on us making sure everything was good multiple times (but without being intrusive). The waitress was extremely kind, gave us much appreciated recommendations, and always made sure we ate everything in the correct way (put the pesto in the crescentine right away so that it melts and .. ah, so flavorful) to enjoy the dish even more. Not only the food is incredibly delicious, the genuineness and kindness of the personnel makes everything perfect. Definitely a must! Grazie!

What a lovely way to spend an evening. From start to finish we were taken care of by Flavio, in excellent English, who explained every dish in detail and was a knowledgeable guide to the food. The cooking was done to perfection by Tommaso and came out fresh and hot. Make sure you book this restaurant early as the thing that we heard Flavio say to the twenty or thirty people who tried to get a table while we were there was 'sorry we are fully booked. Yes, for the week I'm afraid'!

A nice lunch, not spectacular. I had a tortellini in chicken broth that was very good, the stuffed Guinea fowl with potatoes was ok, so was the simple mix green salad. 46 euro for a simple meal is perhaps a bit on the high side.

Amazing in every way!!! The food is delicious, well prepared and so reasonably priced. The space is charming and intimate, giving you the feeling you’re at the core of everything best Italy has to offer when it comes to food and hospitality. Waitress was extremely friendly, the house wine paired perfectly with our dishes. If I had an extra night in Bologna I would’ve gone there again. Can’t recommend this place enough!!!

We were lucky enough to get the one and only non-reserved table. 100% recommend, the staff was brilliant, the food was absolutely amazing. Still the atmosphere of the restaurant was cosy and local. We'd love to come back!

The 35 seats in this trattoria fill up quickly. The owners are passionate about the ingredients going into each dish so you can find local and seasonal dishes on the menu. Expect a superb meal here.

Lovely Place! We were greeted by the owner and he took time to explain the menu, and to recommend wine for us. The menu is very seasonal and local, changing often. But will always feature a few pasta, vegetarian and meat options. We had a wonderful lunch, everything was delicious!!

An exquisite restaurant. The staff was welcoming and very helpful and the food was absolutely wonderful. We took 2 dishes that were today's specials and they were fantastic, better be asking about specials if you're there.
