We
were
guests
at
the
"Miner's
Day
2019"
in
the
Mining
and
History
Museum
in
Oer-Erkenschwick.
It
was
a
really
great
atmosphere.
Various
artists
delighted
the
guests
with
a
great
program:
whether
comedian
Jaqueline
Feldmann,
the
group
"Die
Landgrafen",
Comidians
Hotte
and
Toto
on
Tour
and
many
others
led
through
a
colorful
program
-
there
was
something
entertaining
for
every
taste.
Ruhr
mining
can
look
back
on
a
centuries-long
history.
There
was
coal
mining
in
the
Ruhr
area
as
early
as
around
1300,
as
documents
from
that
time
prove.
But
the
history
of
industrial
coal
mining
only
began
in
the
19th
century,
because
ever
better,
modern
machines
enabled
workers
to
transport
the
coal
from
ever
greater
depths.
The
mine,
the
coking
plant
and
the
nitrogen
works
were
active
from
the
first
sinking
in
1899
until
the
closure
of
the
Haard
mine
in
1999.
In
2008,
the
last
coal
mines
in
Germany
closed
-
it
was
the
end
of
a
traditional
industry.
Many
people
forget
that
Germany
also
has
many
natural
resources,
including
hard
coal.
The
miner's
profession
was
once
a
respected
profession
in
the
traditional
craft
that
was
often
passed
down
through
generations.
The
Ewald
Continuation
colliery
can
also
look
back
on
years
steeped
in
history.
I
think
it's
really
great
that
the
mining
and
history
museum
exists.
The
miner's
profession
must
not
be
forgotten.
The
Ewald
Continuation
mine
is
a
local
recreation
area
that
was
opened
to
the
public
in
2009.
