As soon as you get out of the car you know it's going to be good because of the smell and a full parking lot. Don't let the full parking lot scare you though, they are efficient. As soon as you walk in, you are standing at the counter ready to order. If you are one that takes a few minutes to decide what you want, I suggest looking at the online menu. For my Wife and I, it's a "no brainer". The brisket and bbq combo. You'll be lucky to finish it all. We drive over a half hour to get there and would drive longer if we had too. This is the best you'll get outside of Lexington NC.

Divine barbecue. Everything is prepared to perfection. I love the assortment of barbecue sauces on the table. The roll that comes with the meal is amazingly balanced with doughy and buttery flavors. The food comes out quickly and the service is attentive!

Wow! Love this place. I stopped in for lunch, and I was not disappointed. They have lots to try and I will be back. I went with the brisket plate since I love brisket. I picked the jalapeño grits and the Mac and cheese for sides. I also added the banana pudding and a sweet tea. It came with a roll as well. 4 sauce to choose from. Everything was amazing. I picked up a pulled pork plate for dinner to go with sweet potatoe crisp. I snuck a taste of the pulled pork and the sweet potatoe crisp and I am in for a delicious dinner too! Overall amazing food and I will be back, probably tomorrow.

The parking lot was packed, for good reason. There's an obvious amount of wood stacked outside for the smokers. The ordering process is little foreign to me but; it was smooth. You order at the counter and if you add a tip they cash it out and ask that you leave it for your server.( giving it directly the employees kudos to you 👏) With my drink and tip, plus my personal belongings it was a little precarious getting to my table. I ordered a pork and brisket plate that comes with 2 sides. I chose loaded mashed potatoes and cobbler. They give you three barbecue sauces on your table. Regular, mustard and vinegar style. You have to ask for hot. I tried each one and it's a tie between Regular and hot.(It wasn't too spicy but just right.) The beef and pork were equally moist and pleasantly smoked. ( They must use all fruitwoods, the smoke wasn't overwhelming. No liquid smoke!!!!) I have to mention the biscuits, they were buttery and held together nicely. The potatoes were flavorful . The dessert ( cobbler) had strawberries and rhubarb? The dough was well cooked and tender with the perfect amount sauce. I was impressed enough I got another order of brisket to share at home. Everything was delicious and not salty. They have a nice presentation of the food, checkered waxed paper in an aluminum pie plate( with one overtop to keep it warm.) The building is a little dark but clean. The staff is attentive and friendly. I was actually headed to another restaurant but turned around because the lot was full; however it wasn't difficult to park there are plenty of spots. Best decision I made this week!

The Best BBQ in this area. Every time we have an opportunity and drive by that area we make a mandatory stop here. Our second visit we found a 20+ people in line? In less than 10 min we were already ordering, had a table right away and food was hot and yummy in no time. Staff was extremely knowledgeable of their menu and all the possibilities we can select to make everyone happy. Polite, happy and pleasant.

Great pulled pork and ribs. Has 4 bbq sauces. Expect a wait,Ines form pretty quickly. I would prefer to see some more southern cooked sides. Seems like everyone is going frenchfries coleslaw beans. They do have fried okra.

Amazing BBQ! We own a BBQ restaurant in Canada and we've traveled all over the US looking for good BBQ, and this place has to be in the top 5 of best places I've ever been to. Great food, awesome environment, delicious sauces.

It's a 45 minute drive for us, but the food is truly worth it! The brisket is so good, we ordered some cold-packed for Christmas gifts. Good food without good service can ruin the experience, but you won't have that problem here. The staff is really friendly, always nearby and keeps your drinks refilled. We've enjoyed every meal here!

This restaurant was recommended to me multiple times, and I finally was in the area when they were open! I believe they are only open 3 days a week... Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I came in during lunch hours on Thursday at 12:45, and it was not super busy. They had your typical BBQ fare with pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and ribs. I asked the cashier, who takes the order, what she suggested. She recommended the combo plate of pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. It's the most expensive option on the menu, yet she assured me it was the best way to experience all they had to offer. I agreed with her suggestion and chose the beans and her recommendation of the sweet potato crunch. I paid with my debit card and left a $5 tip. I was handed a $5 bill with my slip to give to my server. I walked to the dining room, and a "hostess" took my slip and showed me to my table. The food arrived quickly and was fresh and hot. I was told it came with a half rack of ribs, but it was maybe a third. The ribs had a crust that was tasty, yet a bit dry. The pulled pork was decent but also a slight bit on the dry side. The brisket was phenomenal with a perfect amount of fat on the edges and was super tender. The beans were average but tasty. The sweet potato crunch was the star of the whole meal. Perfectly seasoned and mashed, with a delectable topping that I could put on everything! They offered 2 sauces... a vinegar based and typical tomato based. Both were decent, yet neither were over-the-top. All in all, I will definitely come back for a brisket sandwich for lunch with a sweet potato side! The service was friendly and genuine, and the atmosphere was southern and welcoming.

My wife is from Texas. This stuff (brisket) is actually really good. Traditional Texas way is with pickles, onions, sauce on thick white bread. I’m told this best in the state last 3 years. I wish I could eat enough to get the meat sweats, but I’m getting ( have gotten) to old to do dumb things like that.

Best BBQ we’ve had in a long time. Out of state visitors looking for some iconic NC barbecue and we found it. The unique experience paired with the heavenly food made this a top notch visit. Great service from every employee we encountered. The portions were nice and big, we had the platters which were enough for two meals each.

I've eaten here numerous times if I don't want to take the time to smoke my own meats this is where I am coming. Both locations are great. Everything I've tried is wonderful. I can't say I've gotten anything bad.

My first visit... You order just inside the door, and before seating. I chose the pork sandwich with a side of jalapeno cheese grits. We were seated, and the food came out extremely quickly. Barely had time to wash my hands, and it was there! The pulled pork was excellent, and I loved the multiple sauces on the table. As good as the bbq was, it was overshadowed by the grits. Smooth, thick and flavorful. Worth the trip on its own. But let me reiterate, that the pork was excellent! The service was fast and friendly, couldn't ask for more. A great meal, a great experience. These folks know what they're doing, and make sure you feel welcome and leave full of good food. Can't wait to return!

The reviews don’t lie this place is legit! One of the best bbq restaurants I have ever eaten at. The brisket was so flavorful and you must get the jalapeño cheese grits! As I have gotten older jalapeño dishes can be too hot but these were just right. Don’t miss it. We drive 40 minutes and it was worth every mile. Great service too.

We tried the beef, chicken, pulled pork and ribs. All delicious. The staff there were friendly and took the time to ask us our opinion of the food since we are from Texas and BBQ is the norm there.

Service: I'm going to start with the service the front staff and wait staff are nice and friendly. There is one lady, a shorter lady who is really rude. She's loud for no reason, pretty damn rude compared to the rest and will rush you when making your order. The wait staff are great. Very nice and attentive to your needs. Food: Pretty good overall. -Brisket is decent. -pulled pork is good. -ribs are good. -chicken is really good. -cole slaw is good. -red slaw is okay. -potato salad is good. -jalepeno grits is really good. Fyi: this smokehouse seems to use a water-based electric smoker because the smokering and bark and texture of food isn't like of traditional wood fired smoker. But I'd recommend this place for those in the area as it's probably one of the best within an hour range of this spot.

BBQ was very good, fries good enough w/o ketchup, and the jalapeno grits are awesome. That coming from a "damn yankee" who had never eaten grits, until later in life and I have to say they are some of the best I've ever had! Right consistence and flavor....complements to the whole staff, thank you for the excellent food.

We happened into the restaurant while passing through. Was very pleased with everything we had a chance to try. The brisket was quite good, had a nice bark and pleasant smoke level. The sides we tried were very well done, the jalapeño grits were very good. Will definitely be back when we are in the area again. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

Tonight was my first visit. It took me all of 2 bites to know it will not be my last visit. I had the absolute best pulled pork and brisket! It was amazing! Delicious from the first bite to the last. I tried all the sauces, but found the mustard- based sauce to be my personal favorite. Service was impeccable as well. If you’re looking for great food, at a great price, with friendly staff…go to JD’s!

Lots of pulled pork in the sandwich, had to take some home! Plenty of sauces and banana pudding is tasty (also popular). Cobbler seemed a bit too sweet for my taste, less cobbler and more sauce

This place is so, so good. Could not believe how fast we got through the long line on a Friday nite, got our table and the food to us. The staff was top notch, so friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Would recommend the jalapeño cheddar grits, sweet potato casserole and banana pudding. We will definitely be back even though we live 1 1/2 hours away.

Thought they have pretty good food and interesting sauces to go with. It was only minutes once inside to give our order to being seated and receiving our food. When you pay for your food you receive your drinks. They have tea and Pepsi products there. If not wanting to stay, you can have your order to go. Parking is around 3 sides of building. Will definitely go back again.

The brisket was a bit dry but still good. The BBQ pork was moist. The cole slaw was way too salty but the other sides were tasty. Good service and atmosphere.

👍👍 Great hand pressed burgers. I love the fresh baked goods. Reminds me of home. I like siting in the picnic tables and watching people forget to put their gas caps back on. Warm friendly service.
