Good place for a short walk with the family and pets (if you have them). I'd suggest wearing good walking shoes or wellies as some parts of the walk are muddy (expected with the rainy weather we've been having). Car park isn't too big but you'll find a spot either in or on the road. Kids will love the area for all the open space at the fort. Cafe serves plenty of options for all dietary requirements which was lovely to see. There are a bunch of benches in case you wanted to get a picnic too.

A lovely area just below the clouds. A place to walk the dog or take the kids. A place to buy a coffee, ice cream or bag of chips. There's a fort just a little west of the cafe and pleany of bridle ways.

This place is always open and there is plenty of information for the visitor. It is well taken care of and it's perfect for families with kids. Please note that there is no toilet in site.

The fort was interesting and not very busy. I was really moved by the memorials further along the historical trail and would highly recommend the trail as a whole. It brings history to life, is a challenging walk to enjoy and you are rewarded by incredible views at the top. There is a cafe and toilets at the start but make sure you take drinks and snacks to keep you going as not much on the way around the trail!

Nice walk to the fort. View from the other side of the hillside gives south London in the distance. Fort used from Napoleonic times to WW2 open most times to visitors the car park nearby is a 5-10 minute walk along an unmade footpath.

The 1890s was a worrying time in British history with France threatening to invade. England had to defend itself and its capital. If London was lost, the country and the empire would surely follow. Reigate Fort was part of England's defensive line. Reigate Fort was built as part of a 72-mile defence line to protect London whilst a huge ship-building programme was initiated by the British government. The southern line was divided into 10 sectors and the fort fell into 'Redhill Position', which was 11km long. It’s well preserved with lots of information panels explaining what each building was.

An interesting piece of history in a great location with good views of the Surrey Hills. The grounds are free to access and there are useful information boards around the site outlining its past. I was fortunate to visit on a Saturday when the National Trust volunteer was around; he was very friendly and allowed us to look around the well preserved underground buildings, giving an interesting tour of the rooms.
