We
first
started
to
look
for
a
new
car
mid
last
year
(early
June
2021)
when
our
fairly
old
Range
Rover
was
giving
more
grief
than
its
worth
so
I
swore
off
Land
Rover,
and
started
to
look
around
for
another
SUV.
We
visited
Lexus
(hard
sale
-
we
walked
away),
Mercedes
(who
couldn't
care
less
and
when
they
did
-
no
car
was
available
to
look
at),
Volvo
(young
sales
guy
who
tried
REALLY
hard
and
said
the
most
absurd
things),
BMW
were
nice
enough
but
just
not
open
/
didn't
have
the
right
car
in
to
look
at.
Obviously
we
liked
the
cars
those
brads
had
on
offer
otherwise
we
wouldn't
have
gone
there,
but
for
what
we
needed
and
our
budget
-
they
just
didn't
deliver,
add
to
that
some
iffy
sales
room
experiences
and
we
started
to
lose
hope.
Didn't
think
I'd
say
this
but
I
did
-
let's
go
and
have
a
look
around
Land
Rover.
Croydon
branch
is
not
far
from
us,
and
we
had
been
past
it
before
with
a
flying
visit
to
compare
with
above-mentioned
makes,
so
we
went
back
but
this
time
to
seriously
consider
one
of
their
cars.
We
arrived,
nothing
major,
just
stood
there
hoping
to
catch
someone's
attention,
and
Richie
happened
to
walk
by
and
asked
if
we
were
OK.
You
can
imagine
that
at
this
point
we
are
no
longer
coming
in
a
dealership
full
of
excitement,
so
the
sceptical
and
somewhat
vary
us
replied
-
we
are
looking
for
a
new
car.
That's
how
we
met,
and
it
was
the
best
moment
of
serendipity
in
the
world
of
car
buying.
We
explained
what
we
were
after,
and
because
we
had
the
Range
Rover
I
thought
we'd
go
for
another
one
(within
our
budget,
we
are
not
in
the
SVAutobiography
group,
not
even
close)
so
we
were
eyeing
up
the
Velar.
To
this
day
I
am
thankful
that
Richie
just
offered
me
to
test
drive
one
(I
hadn't
planned
on
it,
we
hadn't
booked
it
in)
because
it
wasn't
anything
like
what
I
was
used
to
(could
be
the
smaller
engine
size)
neither
in
a
way
it
felt
to
drive
nor
the
space
I
was
used
to.
Because
that
is
what
made
us
go
and
look
at
the
new
Discovery.
What
we
really
liked
about
Richie
was
that
he
was
just
a
normal
guy,
not
the
stereotypical
car
salesman
(we
encountered
a
couple
of
those,
oh
so
cringe).
By
our
very
nature
we
are
open
people,
we
hadn't
gone
in
there
with
a
previous
pep
talk
to
haggle
nor
play
hardball,
and
in
return
we
wanted
someone
who
is
straight
with
us.
We
know
how
sales
world
works
so
we
don't
have
an
issue
with
the
person
wanting
to
earn
their
cut,
and
it's
nice
that
Richie
didn't
treat
us
like
idiots
in
order
to
get
our
custom.
In
fact,
he
was
so
laid
back
yet
personable
in
his
approach,
that
it
lowered
that
tension
of
pressure
to
make
up
our
minds.
Which
is
just
as
well
because
we
circled
from
Range
Rover
to
Discovery
(cost
a
lot
more
but
it
was
so
worth
it),
and
now
-
several
months
later,
are
the
proud
owners
of
a
very
handsome
car.
Due
to
global
shortages
of
chips
and
semi
conductors
we
were
advised
that
the
waiting
time
would
be
between
2-4
months,
which
was
fine
because
we
had
already
heard
about
the
4
month
mark.
Due
to
the
jobs
we
do
-
we
know
about
generic
production
processes,
and
didn't
expect
for
the
car
to
arrive
on
day
dot,
but
we
did
want
to
know
approx.
ETA.
Richie
was
pretty
good
at
coming
back
and
saying,
"no
news
yet",
and
it
just
so
happened
that
our
build
slot
came
to
3
months
after
we
had
secured
the
finance,
and
the
actual
car
arrived
4
months
after
that.
All
in
all
7
months,
but
that's
not
excessively
over
the
advised
timeline
(we
did
think
that
2
months
is
a
way
too
optimistic
estimate),
given
that
there
was
Christmas,
New
Year,
Chinese
New
Year
in
the
middle
(loads
of
factories
and
supply
chain
cogs
shut
down
for
extended
periods
of
time
during
these
festivities).
It's
a
little
think
but
a
nice
touch
-
we
got
a
video
from
Richie
when
the
car
had
been
dropped
off
by
their
transporter.
It
was
so
lovely,
thank
you
for
that.
Handover
was
lovely,
Richie
helped
us
get
the
dashcam
(and
have
it
fitted),
and
his
whole
team
at
Croydon
made
such
an
effort
to
hand
us
the
new
car
in
style
-
velvet
ropes
and
everything!
Croydon
team
=
superstars.
