Went in for spinal epidural on 15th November. A member of nursing staff was uncaring and left me in pain. Ward staff had no knowledge of symptoms that could occur after procedure and I was left in terror, googling what was wrong with me. I have made a formal complaint and depending on the result of their investigation, I will post again in more detail. To update, I have received a reply to my complaint wherein they have used the standard corporate speak by repeating each point and evading the main issues. They say they have taken statements from the staff concerned and that their investigation does not reveal substandard care. So far, so unsatisfactory. To be continued...... 5th February: Further update, a member of staff acknowledged that her care of me fell short of their "high standards" and yet more corporate speak on how they will improve their services, based on my bad experience!! Perhaps I should offer my services as a consultant in how to treat patients with compassion. Some of the letter is actually beyond belief. 19th February: Have now submitted Stage 2 of my complaint requesting an independent internal review. We shall see now if they actually take any responsibility. To be continued

Unfortunately in June 2021 Spire Bushey Hospital almost killed me. I had an operation there with an over night stay and there was a complication after surgery that was completely missed by the nurses and doctors during my over night stay despite me showing clear symptoms from the moment I came out of surgery. I was rushed to an NHS A&E 1 day later after being discharged from Bushey Hospital with in severe septic shock needed an emergency operation and almost died this followed a very agonising 3 week stay in an NHS hospital. Then Spire did their own internal investigation and got that wrong. Firstly they sent me the wrong patients details so I actually had someone else’s information of another person who had complained. Then they stated that a complication was ruled out when it wasn’t and stated all my observations were normal which they weren’t. They said I was sipping fluids fine but never measured that I was given a black opaque jug of water which was changed far too regularly by the domestic staff so it definitely wasn’t measured. I raised a formal complaint with them which they have taken months and months and months to reply to and still have not responded despite me trying to chase the complaint. My surgeon at Bushey has been very helpful and told me he was very surprised that they did not even speak to him or approach him during their internal investigation so even he has found it shocking. You’re staff nearly killed me, they shared the opinions using confirmation bias to explain away clear symptoms of Spesis and there was not a NEWS score in sight. One nurse didn’t even know how to take a tympanic temperature (from the ear). The education of their staff post surgery is something they failed on their CQC report in January 2021 and it clearly put patients like me at serious risk. Please, please, please do you research when choosing a hospital for your operation because it’s so important to find a place with competent staff to look after you or your loved ones. Your life is at stake. EDIT: 03/10/23. I have responded to their message and emailed the address they have given. I have had no response.

Smooth on the day, eveything else was a nightmare. On the day of my surgery, everything was handled smoothly and I was well looked after. My nurse and my physio on the day were kind and helpful. However, every part of my journey other than that day was a mess. Every person you speak to believes from the bottom of their heart that you’re not their problem and the responsibility for your support lies with someone else. I just want support, and to be able to get answers from the health professionals who treated me and I’m sick of being passed back & forward, getting nothing done. Oh, and the secretaries never answer their phones and don’t have a voicemail

I was booked in for a day procedure and I felt I was in the absolute best hands from the moment I walked through the door until I left. Every single member of staff I met were beyond polite, caring, professional and helpful. They work like a well oiled machine, and their care and attention is second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the team at Spire Bushey.

I am disappointed. First of all, the consultant was rude. He is nothing more than a business man. Secondly, I have been charged incorrectly for tests. I thought private healthcare was meant to be better. Unfortunately not.

On the days up to my surgery I was treated really well and everyone was really nice. I had surgery on the 27th October 2021, was told they couldn't do anything and that I would have to have another procedure again as apparently they didn't have the equipment necessary at the time which I find unbelievable but gave them the benefit of the doubt. I was also told that I would get a follow up appointment in 4 weeks, it has now been almost 2 months and I haven't heard from anyone. Called a week ago chasing only to be told that the coordinator wasn't available then and that someone would be calling me back. I still haven't heard anything. I feel like if I was a paying patient maybe everything would have been sorted in the first surgery but as I am an NHS referral it wasn't. But even though I'm an NHS referral, I'm sure they aren't doing anything for free in collaborating with the NHS as they must get paid for taking on non paying patients. I have read some of the reviews on here and even their paying patients seem to have a hard time so it can't just be NHS patients complaining. The only reason I agreed to the NHS referral was because the NHS waiting list was and still is very long. I feel like the NHS would have probably done everything they needed to do during the first surgery or at least they would have tried. Not really sure where to go from here.

This place does not deserve any star. After care, after surgery is non-existent. They gave us phone number to call if patient had any issues, my wife became sick with high temperature so i called all the numbers provided but no body answers any phone i ŵas on hold for hours. So do not rely on this hospital after care. We came though private insurance that we pay personally, we were rushed to leave hospital and night shift nurses have zero knowledge Attached picture is card where we were suppose to call

I just arrived out of surgery and a nice snack was waiting for me. The staff is professional and very friendly and makes an intimidating stay easy to deal with. Bed really comfortable, the room is first class with tv, proper shower and surprisingly good coffee.

I cannot thank the staff enough at Spire Bushey for all of their care during my admission. I felt in safe hands every step of the way and had a positive journey throughout, from booking through to coming in and going home. I would like to extend my personal thanks to Sister Kim, who was so kind and caring the whole time. The theatre team were amazing and so reassuring. My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, pantry staff were all so accomodating too. Administration, porters, housekeeping, catering and clinical teams, and to my consultant, thank you! You should all be extremely proud of the good work that you do. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending patients to this hospital

I recently spent one night at Bushey Spire following an operation. The medical staff were excellent throughout my stay with special shout out to Mr Cohen and to Loris C and Alan who cared for me post operation. Their professionalism was exceptional throughout. Kudos to you all!

Terrible place, wasnt allowed anyone with me even though I explained I was in a wheelchair most of the time. Prices were not clearly told to me and overall amount i was told was wrong. Staff in a certain dept had me running around and considering i saw a cardiologist I found it bad . Dr didnt tell me i needed a ct scan that same day but staff did and he was with someone so i couldnt querey why he hadnt told me. Had to start treatment before i had all costs told to me and when i questioned it and told them some one else was paying my bill they said they could ring that person. they couldnt off as she cant talk due to motor nuerone bulbar. Wouldnt go back there under any circumstances and had my further appts cancelled

Poor experience, lack of transparency, unwilling to clarify costs until after the consultation (I asked at reception and was told to speak to the consultant, I asked the consultant and was told that "[he] doesn't deal with" stuff like that, it's up to the admin team, and big surprise I am now expected to pay the highest possible amount). Perhaps it is my fault for assuming this would be a decently run hospital who were transparent with costs - where I could challenge costs before the consultation out if the cost is too high. The actual experience is more akin to a clip joint, and woefully unethical. I am told that on the call when I made the booking, I was allegedly told that the cost of the appointment would be exactly £240, I don't recall this and the hospital has so far been unwilling to share this recording with me, I believed it was £140. This doesn't change the fact that booking an appointment 15mins before I was due to be seen meant I was rushed, MIGHT have misheard (while on loudspeaker and getting ready). I queried the costs after I was handed a print out from the receptionist who said (something like), "the consultant has given us some information for you", among other things on the page the following is written: "My fee for an initial consultation > will not exceed < £240.00...", the purpose of my query, BEFORE my consultation, was to make sure I wouldn't be charged the maximum - which is more than I was willing to pay - but I allowed myself, naively, to be pushed down the conveyor belt instead of walking out. There was also an incredibly long wait to be seen, and while the consultant did make an effort to explain the delay, this compounds my dissatisfaction with the overall experience. The consultant in question was Mr M. Heliotis although the problems almost certainly lie between the consultant and the reception/admin team and their unwillingness to engage with customers when people have experiences like this.

I went for a GP appointment due to an Achilles injury. I saw Dr Dalal who was superb. I went in with damage to my Achilles' tendon. Firstly, she was very thorough and welcoming during the GP session where she confirmed she thought it was at least a partial rupture of the Achilles. But she has come into her own ever since, through BUPA on a Friday afternoon I couldn't get hold of any consultants. In her own time she contacted A consultant and helped arrange a consultant appointment with him two weeks earlier than anything BUPA could offer. She also ensured I had a scan at 8:20 the next morning which has confirmed a ruptured tendon. She spoke to the consultant to get advice to me between now and next Tuesday when I saw him. Since then she has constantly checked in with me to ensure progress and answered my questions where she could, and where she couldn't she reached out to the consultant to get me answers. Without her I would have been left with complete uncertainty about what to do next and if I was doing long term damage. I have nothing but phenomenal feedback for every element of her service and support.

The staff were fantastic (Nurses, Consultant, Theatre staff, Physios,Catering) 5* Excellent. BUT the room was TERRIBLE Fronted on car park bright lights all night could not sleep-3 nights- window blinds totally inadequate - complained while there including to the Hospital Director- they all said they knew about the problem for years, it is a problem in quite a few rooms -but they don’t have budget to fix it. FIND ANOTHER HOSPITAL

I attended the hospital for an auditory check. The doctor was great and helpful but the costs of the procedures were poorly explained and unclear. I was informed of the consultant’s fees but not of the the cost of the hospital fees and neither of whether a procedure was part of the appointment or an extra. The cost of a consultation plus wax removal totalled to nearly £700 pounds, this is the breakdown: £200 for the 20 minutes consultation £60 for the wax removal £400 for the use of hospital equipment The costs charged by the consultant were clear but those sustained by the hospital were not explained to me. If I would have known I would have had the procedure performed later in the year or somewhere else. Also the hospital charges differently whether you go via insurance (they charge more, as in my case) or private, also this was not mentioned in the day but only post factum. It didn’t help that to find all the above I had to chase them for a day with very long waiting times on the phone and callback systems that didn’t work (either didn’t call back or dropped the call). The hospital was responsive once I reached out for the right person via mail. Frankly, given all the stress that this caused me made me think that it would have been maybe better to wait 6 months and go via nhs.

My dad had his total knee replacement on Saturday 21st October at Spire Bushey and I have many good things to say and some special thanks to certain people working there who made the experience a positive one. My dad was diagnosed with arthritis over 15 years ago and told he needs a knee replacement in his 50s, but he held out mainly due to fear and decided he would rather walk being reliant on just one leg then get the other replaced. Fast forward to present day where my dad is now 69 years old we then met Dr Paddy Subramanian - he was very positive, informative and honest and my dad felt very reassured and confident in him, as did I - I wanted by dad to be treated well and also believed Dr Paddy would take care of him and we decided to go ahead. Dr Paddy in fact saw us twice as my dad started getting nervous and needed some additional reassurance and Dr Paddy certainly gave us that second time round also. He was very generous with his time The day of surgery came and we arrived at Spire reception and were escorted by Gary Mullins who was a very friendly and kind gentleman and gave my very nervous dad reassurance. It was a comforting start to what was a very nervous day and the service Gary provided was much needed as he was the first person to start our day. This kindness and comfort continued and didn’t stop with Gary- the nurses Herald and Jessica who worked in the Lea Ward on Saturday 21 October 2023 made the whole time spent in room 35 so comforting. They were very very kind, professional, personable, reassuring and took such FANTASTIC care of my dad. Two of the best nurses we have ever come across. Every patient / hospital needs a Gary, Jessica and Herald - 3 people I imagine any patient would instantly feel better by To anyone nervous about knee replacement - don’t be if you’re getting it done by Dr Paddy. My dad was terrified of getting this knee replacement for years and as was I for him! We had all sorts of nightmares including of him waking up mid surgery and seeing/ hearing / feeling the procedure. I unfortunately can’t remember the anaesthetists name but he did a fantastic job at providing the perfect amount of sedation. Its very early days for him as it’s only 2 days after surgery and there’s a long rough road to recovery and lots of work to do day in day out but far more positive now. The knee replacement surgery itself is rough when you think about what they are actually doing - but the reality was that although that might be true, it turned out to be the best and most comfortable surgery experience my dad has ever had. He woke up from surgery in a pretty good state and far better then any of his previous surgeries My dad was in room 35 which was a lovely room. Very comfortable, nice room with a nice bathroom. The hospital itself was extremely clean and nice also. The food was great and whoever prepared the omelette and crème brûlée did a great job as my dad really enjoyed it Also additionally, the Spire Diagnostic centre is where my dad had to go before surgery during the lead up for his checks. This place also gave my dad reassure and confidence for the surgery because the diagnostic centre is extremely impressive - very state of the art and the staff also great. Unfortunately I don’t know the names of the staff that did his tests during his first pre op assessment there but they did a great job Earl was the final person we saw during our stay there, he was super kind and friendly and his kindness left its mark I am a very grateful daughter. We were so nervous before but now so thankful to all those mentioned in this review Thank you Dr Paddy & the team that were all there in theatre with him for your expert work, thank you Herald, Jessica, Garry, Earl, Kwasi , the physio team and Spire Hospital Thank you all very much! Please pass on my thanks to all those mentioned in this review

Having been a patient of Elstree Cancer Centre on and off for 3 years I thought that it was time to write a review. Very simply the nurses and staff have all been fantastic. I cannot fault them in any way. They are all professional, attentive and fun when dealing with the difficulties us cancer patients are having. From Michelle meeting me at reception with a smile to Glynis who makes me toast to Emiliya, Caroline, Ron, Cristina, Ashling and Hayley who administer my drugs and keep me sane to Jackie being at the end of the phone and finally to Sam and Agatha who keep control of this motley crew (only joking). It must be a challenging job for them, with many highs and lows, but they always put a smile on my face when sometimes I am not feeling that great. Thank you so much for everything. If you ever have the need for cancer treatment, then I highly recommend these girls!

Saturday 9th July 2022 approx 6.15am I visited the Spire Bushy Hospital as i was completely lost. The night porter and receptionist where just the most kind hearted, helpful, comforting people. The lovely lady who looked so professional searched the web and printed off directions for me, then the night porter offered me a lift as he was about to finish. Truly wonderful people who deserve the very very best. Never received such outstanding service in all my life. THANK YOU

I stayed at the spire for a hysterectomy and 3 nights recovery. Every single person was wonderful and caring and I had a pain free time. Mr boret who did the procedure has an excellent bedside manner and is obviously very expert. . The room was large. The food was good and the experience was faultless. Everyone from reception, to housekeeping, pantry and nurses inspired confidence and made me feel very cared for.

My husband had an operation recently and I can honestly say I cannot find a fault with the service. From the moment he walked in he was attended to fantastically. Nothing was too much trouble. A definite shout out to the theatre team in anaesthetics and recovery who put him at ease and managed his pain so well.

Absolutely shocking!!!! I paid £718 for blood tests which I am still waiting for the results of over 2 months later. Then to top it off I’ve just received another invoice for £77, for what? Your guess is as good as mine… It’s been an absolute nightmare trying to get my results back can’t believe I’m still waiting. You go private for piece of mind and to alleviate any stress but this has been one of the most stressful times I have experienced. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL!!!!

Having the misfortune to have made several visits to Spire Bushey Hospital I now know many of the staff as friends and enjoy being warmly greeted by them. Yesterday I had a particularly good experience. Arriving without an appointment, Monica, in reception, squeezed me in and was particularly attentive to ensure that I was not overlooked. Abigail, the phlebotomist, also wore angel wings. Any apprehension, because of a reputation for having difficult veins, was quickly evaporated as Abigal set about her work like a well-oiled machine. It was a totally painless experience. I have no hesitation in recommending Spire Bushy Hospital for sympathetic medical attention.

Always seen on time. Dr Kumari is very thorough and phlebotomists are very good, I have deep veins which aren't easy to draw blood from and the phlebotomists always manage easily. Saw Priti today who was super fast and very good at what she does.

If you're an NHS patient at Spire, anticipate minimal follow-ups, ignored emails, and discomfort. After cast removal, there was no follow-up, and they claimed I missed an appointment they never informed me about. I only received a letter from my last appointment(recieved Monday) on November 28th. As expected, Spire redirected me back to the NHS. This situation has left me quite upset, especially considering my prolonged issue and that I have informed them of a fall I had. I now have an injury on the hand that I had surgery on. This has set me back mentally. Reconsider if you're an NHS patient; other options are available.

I have unfortunately been coming here for many years and safe to say I know the hospital and staff extremely well by now. I have been in every department of this hospital and not had a single issue from being an inpatient, outpatient, imaging, physio, hydrotherapy, theatre I cannot say a single bad word about the care from this hospital. I have come in quite anxious before prior to appointments and tests only to be constantly reassured and it's little things like that you truly appreciate!. I know someone else mentioned Monica here but I have known her for an extremely long time and I hope Spire Healthcare see this because honestly she deserves an award for the AMAZING customer care, she's always so happy, friendly, chatty and so lovely so THANK YOU Monica! When it says on Google "we deliver high standards of care" that's 100% true! I will add one thing at the diagnostic centre many park on the disabled bay without a disabled badge leaving people like myself with a disabled badge having to walk from the main car park at the top down something that can cause pain/discomfort so please DO NOT park in the disabled bay at the front at the diagnostic centre if you DO NOT have a disabled badge and you can be fined and reported for this!

I had an operation in December and the surgeon and staff well I can't say thank you enough, just fantastic from the moment I came in until I was fit enough to go home and I had a moment when I thought I was going home but one of the nurses saw me and she said to me that she wasn't happy with my stats so she said no and kept me until I was better

Excellent experience of spinal surgery and post op care. Having read some of the reviews I was slightly dubious, but I can’t fault the service. Pre-op and op all ran perfectly on time, day and night nurses all excellent and very attentive. A very clean and well organised hospital in my opinion. I stayed for 2 days and one night.

I was referred by NHS for sinus surgery. From start to finish there was a complete lack of concern for my wellbeing. I tried to be optimistic but it was clear they don't care about NHS patients. Every consultation felt like the surgeon was doing it on his lunch break and wanted me out the office as quick as possible and even after my sinus surgery I received such poor communication. I had to constantly call only for them to tell me to use basic hay-fever nasal sprays (did not even say for how long). He only gave me one check up after my surgery, where I again, was "checked" in about 30 seconds and sent off. Even when I left the hospital very weak and bleeding heavily from my nose they did not even want to give me a few extra nose bandages and left me to walk out in the cold by myself after a major operation. It's no surprise that the surgery did not alleviate my chronic sinusitis at all and not even 2 months after I'm worse off than before. Absolutely the worst hospital experience I've ever had. If I could give ZERO stars I would. It's very clear that they do not actually care about patients.

Very mixed feelings about my stay at the Spire 7/10/22. This is not an easy place to get to especially if you don’t drive and have to be there at 7am. Nonetheless I made it, arrived at 7.10. Shown to room at approx 7.45 and left after a Buick stAtement some one would be along to check me in and tell me to get dressed. At 8.30 consultant arrived to mark up my foot, have you been checked in he asked, no was my reply. Need to get this sorted as you are likely be first down. Approx 5 min later nurse turned up with forms. Given the urgency she asked me if I’d change whilst she filled in the form. Given how pressured she looked I obliged. I could tell you the amount of repetition in that form filling was annoying. Anaesthetist popped in, repeated some quests but that ok he needed to check what I was having done. Ready to go to theatre and off I walked in my surgical robe (no dressing gown). Person taking me was nice an chatty. Theatre staff pleasant and procedure quick. Taken to recovery room, after about 15min nurse called for transport to take me back. Man to wheel the trolly and nurse to guide me. Recovery room nurse mentioned my blood pressure a bit high 170 which had being rising. Taken back to room, as we travelled accompanying nurse said oh you are probably hungry, I’ll organise some food, took over 30mins to get that but it was pleasant. Blood pressure taken again now 180, but nurse asked if I had a headache and left. Probably about an hour I called nurse to go to bathroom, they came and I asked could my blood pressure be taken again, she would be back. What felt like an age but probably another 30mins she came back took blood pressure still high. She didn’t have my notes so wrote it down on a tissue. I asked to see doctor another nurse came in and told me doctor attending an emergency so would be with me when he could (only one doctor). By this time I’m developing a headache and back ache. Original accompanying nurse came in and I explained someone else had not since long taken my blood pressure and it was still high he might want to get my notes. Off he went and returned with machine but no notes, took blood pressure, starting to come down, again needed to write on tissue. Doctor came to visit and offered me painkillers but didn’t appear worried. Nurse came in and gave me pill. After a while I decided I had enough and wanted to go home. Asked to be discharged an nurse went off for my paperwork. After a while he returned and walked me to reception. On the way he stated he forgot to do the follow up appointment. Got to reception and booked cab. Couldn’t wait to leave and will never attend this hospital. My biggest observation is the lack of communication between them all. They were so laid back they were almost horizontal, no urgency. They could see I was concerned but I didn’t feel like a priority. Why my Notes were not in the room and the need for tissue paper was beyond me. No blood pressure machine in room, so it was an upheaval to bring it in and out. I normally go to kings oak, couldn’t this time due to timing but I’ll be heading back. You could really learn from this hospital who respond to patient concerns and make them feel safe. They even go as far as calling you when you get home to check how you are doing. I’m not sure you guys actually know I’ve gone. I received a follow up appointment at the spires. Never will I attend this place again.

Had my bloods taken today by Priti. Seen five minutes earlier than my appointment and met by Priti with her usual smile and happy disposition. I remembered Priti from last year when she carried out my pre operative assessment. She put me at my ease even though I was about to undergo major surgery. She is an asset to the hospital with her years of critical care experience. I am a regular patient at Spire Bushey and am always acknowledged by a member of the team that have cared for me previously. Can’t speak highly enough of their care and treatment.

I am very disappointed with this place. Doesn't feel private at all. My surgeon was very professional the anesthetic ladies were so professional. The really made me feel special. But the black nurse... No words for her unprofessionalism. It is not about racism as there were many other races with good manners

I’ve just had a blood test and I can’t praise the staff highly enough. Particularly Priti Chohan who took my blood. Professional, efficient, friendly and comforting. Than you Shaul Ronnie Cohen

I had 2 surgeries in last 6 months. Both performed by Mr Sheridan. I have been well looked after in every area. Amazing staff and surgeon. Would highly recommend.

14/4 surgery date. I was very nervous but the team here was so professional and caring. Thank you in particular to nursing staff Loris and Mr Al-Taan consultant and anaesthetist (whose name I didn't catch). Progress since surgery has been brilliant and I truly feel I'm getting my life back.

I’ve been to this hospital a few times and every single time I’ve had a fantastic experience. I recently attended and met Bridie a fantastic nurse and Dr Chakravorty who was great. Both Bridie and Dr Chakravorty were incredibly knowledgable and informative about the appointments, what would happen next etc. A lovely lady called Hayley arranged my booking and she was amazing, very calm when I wasn’t feeling so calm! She was incredibly reassuring and had everything under control. I’d definitely recommend this hospital; always efficient, friendly, organised and very clean.

My wife has had a shocking experience. She had surgery moved over 4 times, paying for services she never received and when complained was only offered partial payment as a ‘goodwill gesture’, yet over a month later, Spire continue to earn interest and withhold the funds. Their response after agreeing to partial payment is to ‘seek legal advice’. They do not value their patients at all and continue to ignore emails. Disgraceful service.

I had such a great experience yesterday at Spire Bushey Hospital. Nujauna (apologies if I have mis spelled your name. I came to check the spelling of your name as I was leaving but you weren't there) at Reception was so warm and welcoming; it made such a difference to how I felt when I first walked in. The hospital is bright, airy, and clean, and all the staff are really pleasant with 10/10 hospitality. I also have to mention that I observed a lady called Simona who was so attentive to a patient. She took her time, no question was too much, and her manner was lovely to see. This interaction gave me great comfort in the quality of customer service at the Hospital. Keep up the great work Spire Bushey, you're doing a great job and it's clearly being led brilliantly!
