The hike up is full of steps so be prepared to do lots of ups and downs throughout the rocky trail. I did it in running shoes but I thinking hiking boots with grips would’ve served me better for sure. It’s was a great moderate hike and almost exactly 1.5 miles to the oasis. To our surprise, yes, there is water, but not tons. It’s spotted with little ponds. The palms are huge and super lush. The oasis itself felt 10 degrees cooler in the shade just it provided. Definitely worth the hike to get to them. The high was 60 degrees as we were hiking and it was a perfect temperature because right when we’d start to sweat, a nice cool breeze would come along. There were people on the trail that were all ages and sizes so I think it would be a great family hike.

Beautiful oasis at the end of 1.5 mile trail. It took me about 30 minutes to get there. Not a difficult trail, lots of folks walking on the trail. The parking lot is full by 10am. Come enjoy the shade by these behemoths.

Good moderate 1.6 mile hike on a well marked trail. Trail ends abruptly at the oasis with somewhat difficult rock scramble to basically nowhere. Nice palm grove at end with visible wet spots.

Very good hike. The poster at the trail entrance says it is hard, but I would say it is moderate. I am not a very sporty person, it took me about 30 to reach the oasis and about 35-40 min to get back to the parking lot. The way back was a bit more complex since it was a longer way up. The oasis itself looks nice. It was dry (end of Nov).

This is a great trail to be able to see amazing views. It is only 1.5 miles out to view the Forty-nine Palms Oasis that is out there. It is quite remarkable to have the palm trees in this nice little cove in the middle of the national park and desert environment. Make sure you check it out and ensure you are covered up as the sun is out most days here.

Started our hike in the middle of the afternoon to beat the heat. The hike was relatively short and easy (about 3 miles round trip), but totally worth the effort for the palm trees. There’s a gradual ascent through the desert landscape with stunning views all around. The oasis was wonderful, but the highlight for me was at sunset—when the air cooled with a slight breeze and the colors changing around us.

What an incredible hike. The walk towards the oasis is through dramatic and sprawling desert landscapes and the payoff of the palms at the end is amazing. It felt otherworldly! The trail is well marked and their were people of all ages walking. There are quite a few inclines both ways and some stairs, but in general it’s a moderate hike. It took us around 2 hours to complete (including time spent at the oasis). Getting there and parking was super easy.

Great hike to an oasis. I did not think this was strenuous, but it definitely would be in the summer.

Beautiful! The hike in is harder in than back. Don't ask me how. Careful where you step along the trail, there's baby brittlebush growing. At the oasis, there's sections closed off for habitat restoration. Be mindful. Plenty of photo ops. Don't leave valuables in your car. Ours was broken into here in the parking lot. Window smashed with a rock. But don't let that detpur you! This is by far the easiest oasis in JTNP to hike to.

Now this hike should definitely be added to your itinerary during your Joshua Tree visit! It is an easy to moderate hike that will get your blood starting to pump and give you that breathtaking view. Great for all ages - we saw young kids and an older couple doing the hike. In April, it wasn’t too busy and we easily found parking. There is also a bathroom at the entrance. Note: there is limited shade until you reach the palm trees so make sure you bring enough water.

This was a beautiful hike. Bring plenty of water, the temperature was in the low 90s, but the sun is harsh. I had three children, ages 8-14, so it took a little longer to do. Be aware and respectful of wildlife. There is a restroom at the beginning of the hike, it is very smelly. 🤢

Longer hike than expected and definitely go early, as the sun rises, otherwise you're stuck on the hillside in the blazing sun! The oasis is cute and well meeded shade, but you're not allowed all the way to the center and where the water runs, for conservation reasons.
