As a New Yorker, I’m a bit skeptical of other museums because in my opinion, the best museums are in NYC. That being said, I was very happy with the Palm Springs Art Museum! Awesome rotating galleries and a very helpful and pleasant staff make going here a pleasure! The outdoor sculpture gardens are very relaxing and the restaurant there is really peaceful and the food is great! The permanent collection is very good and warrants repeat viewings. If you’re a lover of art and want to see impressive pieces in an intimate, clean and organized environment, check out The Palm Springs Art Museum!

Very nice art museum nestled on the back side of the downtown park. Three levels, with a large variety of mediums and artists - from glass work to modern pieces to much older oil on canvas style paintings. Would recommend if you’re in the area and looking to get out of the sun for an hour!

Quaint museum in the heart of Palm Springs with the mountains as backdrop. There are 3 levels, a theatre, a garden and of course, a gift shop. The collection is decent as expected in a small museum so spend at least an hour. If you feel like taking a break, there is a nice cafe in the ground level. There is a museum parking but I recommend the covered parking across especially when it’s hot. When done, head out to the many restaurants in downtown PS. It’s worth visiting - support the Arts.

Excellent collection of a variety of American artists, styles and periods. Very good description, background of artists and their work. Beautiful building to house them. 1-2 hour will be a good visit. The area surrounding the museum has wonderful sculptures too.

Came on a weekday before 6pm because it is free! This museum is was extremely awesome! Actually exceeded my expectation and had a nice time walking around the museum and seeing all the pieces. Spent about an hour at this place and was not disappointed at all. They had more things downstairs, but I completely missed it and only realized once we left.

The modern art shines at this jewel in the desert. Visitors are "greeted" outside by a several stories tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe. Inside the collection spans modern, native American, glass, and photography.. There is a cafe with adjoining sculpture garden for outdoor dining. The 1968 Chevy Malibu suspended vertically above the ground is thought provoking.

Went in without much knowledge and was very pleasantly surprised. Eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional art and sculpture. Prices are fair and the location is awesomez right at the base of the mountains.

Love all the temporary and permanent installments of the museum. When we visited, they had a lot of Mexican artists and a couple ancient Mexican tribe prices, specifically Olmec. The staff here are simply amazing, helpful and knowledgeable. We will definitely visit again next time we’re in PS.

I went on a Sunday, and they were having an issue with their ticketing system so they let me in for free, a fun surprise, and thank you. Peaceful inside, exhibits on display are timely and interesting. Dwayne Hansen‘s Old Couple on a Bench was particularly well done and disturbing… At least for me. When I walked around the corner I thought this older couple was just tired and sitting, looking forward and disconnected from each other. As I stepped closer I realized that they weren’t real. Hansen captured an older couple so bored and disconnected, seemingly unfulfilled and out of time, out of shape, from what I gather neither having found passion… it made me cry because it captured an incredibly real fear of mine. To get to that stage of my life not having realized dreams or passion with intensity sounds too horrible to bear, and I found that I just couldn’t look at the older couple for the rest of my time in the museum. I’d like to spend at least one other afternoon at this museum reading through the exhibits again. I was in such a bad place after looking at the older couple that I didn’t appreciate some of the other lighter works.

I actually really enjoyed this little museum. Given that it's a museum in a small city, I knew it would be somewhat limited, but honestly I wasn't disappointed at all. The collection is decent and really varied. My favorite exhibits were the glass sculptures and modern art. The sculpture gardens were nice also, very peaceful. There was a wine bar/ bistro downstairs, but sadly it was closed for the summer. If you're in the city and looking for something to do, I recommend it.

An incredible variety of beautiful art. The permanent Pure, Simple, and Beautiful Forms: Glass Collection is a must see. Stunning colours and visually appealing. Lawrence Schiller’s the 60s images captured so well that takes you back in time. Museum has a cafe which is nicely tucked in surrounding art everywhere. A must visit museum.

A great local art museum with a good collection of mostly modern, abstract, and early 1900’s art with some local desert artwork displays, also. We enjoyed the collection of amazing charcoals by Robert Longo, and many of the quirky art pieces that play with textures and perspective. The museum is an amazing piece of architecture, too. Tickets are $14 for adults, but we went on a Thursday evening, because it is free between 5 and 7 PM. Be sure to get your tickets online before going, though! No walk-ins…. Don’t miss the amazing statue of Marilyn Monroe and the palm tree and fountain park right out front. A “must visit” place when you come to Palm Springs!

Great place for inspiration and relaxation. A lot of space. I had a scooter with me and friendly stuff let me leave it in a special room. I would recommend to save 1-2 hours for this place because it’s big and interesting.

I went out to Paln Springs to visit with family. My wife and I decided to stop in and see the Palm Springs Art Museum. I was very impressed. They have a lot of nice art and some interesting other pieces of art. The place was very clean and nice. The person working there was friendly and walked around us and showed us the paintings. We had a nice afternoon looking at some good art work. Highly recommend

Such a fun little oasis in Palm Springs. Classic modern art space on 4 floors (if you count the mezzanine). Recommend starting at the top and working your way down. The whole thing can be done in 2 hours. Pro-tip, there's a cafe on the garden or basement level where you can eat outside in one of the sculpture gardens.

Beautiful museum. Great place to go to get out of the heat. Free on Thursday evenings! I'm not from the area, but when I visit and have a few hours to kill I make the trip to the museum. Good size collection for a relatively small city.

During a free day, we visited the art museum during our trip and were astonished by the collection. We were greeted by a docent upon entering the museum, who was very knowledgeable. He taught us more about the collections than we would have otherwise. The museum has four levels with the entrance and exit located on the third level. I think we spent about an hour looking through the collections and we didn't have enough time to see the underground level. Even so, I recommend you explore everything since they have some interesting pieces. I particularly loved the contemporary pieces for their uniqueness. You can park in the museum's parking lot as well as the covered public lot across the street. After we finished at the museum, we walked over to the Palm Springs Village Fest that was going on at the same time. The day was well spent.

What a great place to escape the heat and gain some culture! You’ll walk away feeling inspired by the collection of vibrant, colorful and unique pieces of art. Walk around the 3+ stories at your own pace and you’ll have enough room to spread out and have enough time at each collection.

We went on a free admission Thursday and was surprised at the quality of the local museum. We loved the open space layout and architecture design. There were three floors of paintings, sculptures, drawings, mini theaters, and installations. The outdoor sculpture garden was beautifully landscaped and parking was easy when we arrived around 5:30 pm. There is a big multi level parking lot across the street with free parking as well.

A great way to spend 1-2 hours especially if it’s hot out. At $14 a person, I thought this was a great price compared to other art museums I’ve been to. Staff was friendly when we entered to help orient us to the museum. There’s also free parking which makes it even better!

First time ever visiting this wonderful art museum. I really enjoyed there special exhibitions and there permanent collection. They are known to exhibit Early Post War American art. After exploring we ended up having wine at there beautiful art sculpture patio. It was nice to relax and unWine.

I really enjoyed my visit to palm springs art museum. They have a good collection if modernist art. There was a bit of a line to get in, buying tickets in advance is a good idea. Worth a visit if you are in Palm Springs. They do have reciprocal membership if you are a member at one of the many museums in LA. Ample free parking around the museum

Great museum to visit while in town. There is plenty of unique art to see. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was not packed, we were able to enjoy the entire museum with no rush. The place was clean, various clean restrooms and plenty of areas to sit. Good place to spend the day if you like any form of art.

  • 3/5 Adam R. 1 year ago on Google
This is one of the very few things I would not recommend or do again. The exhibits were just random pieces of modern art with no real reason or purpose. The staff leaves you just wandering vs offering explanations or cool tips and almost everything was bland and boring. The mirrored forever piece in the entrance abd giant Marilyn Monroe are the only things worth seeing. There’s better ways to spend your time while in Palm Springs, unless you like uninspired art. With that said, the Picasso owl was cute. I did like that too.

  • 5/5 Lydia C. 10 months ago on Google
This was a nice way to spend some time looking at some art in downtown Palm Springs. There are three floors of installations, and a theatre in the basement for moving showings they have. We went on a Thursday evening when they offer free admission. Book those entry tickets in advance!

  • 5/5 Patrick D. 5 months ago on Google
Great museum with a diverse mix of art and artists. $16 ticket entry for adults is definitely worth it to see some great artists (Bourgeois, Picasso, Calder, Gilliam, Frankenthaller & many more!)

  • 5/5 Charlotte T. 8 months ago on Google
Really interesting exhibits I loved the diversity of the different pieces and I discovered that my interest is now more in 3D pieces than painting. I would recommend a visit. Just as an aside, the restaurant was closed which was an inconvenience as I struggle with my mobility and sitting down with a drink would have been great. Also I thought that the gift shop was very overpriced.

This is a fun museum, the exhibits are clever and exciting, not stuffy at all. Summer nights open free after 5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They bring out a dj and music pumping. Gift store had amazing ingenious little pieces of art to take home in bags and vases and just gorgeous things.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is a great place to visit while in Palm Springs. The museum features modern a contemporary art, Native American art, photography, and historical artifacts. We made reservations for our visited on a Thursday evening from 5-8pm. Admission is free on Thursday nights and the museum has a DJ playing music as well. The museum is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts and culture seekers. We really enjoyed our visit here and we would recommend visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum.

In Palm Springs for a few days & my last it was 107°. Looking for things to do inside and this was a great choice. Looks smaller in the pics but was actually bigger than I thought. So glad I checked it out. I was there 90 mins and could've been there way longer very easily. 4 floors, highly recommend.

  • 4/5 Jason B. 10 months ago on Google
My visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum left me with mixed feelings. The museum showcased a wonderful collection of art with diverse exhibits, but unfortunately, the staff at the entrance were rude and disinterested, which detracted from the overall experience. However, the museum's impressive displays, including thought-provoking contemporary art and well-maintained galleries, made up for the initial encounter. With some improvement in customer service, the Palm Springs Art Museum has the potential to be an even more remarkable cultural institution.

  • 5/5 A 1 year ago on Google
Much bigger than we thought. There are three floors of exhibits and a decent sized gift shop on the first floor. We were able to do a short free tour of one of the exhibits with a docent. Definitely worth a visit!

Came on a Thursday afternoon and was pleased. As soon as arrived I noticed a buzz of people everywhere. The door attendants greeted me upon entering. Nice art pieces and even a gift shop and outdoor patio. The night seemed to have been a music night as guests were allowed to walk around with provided headphones for music. I seen outdoor area with music and food I assume. Quite full even at 8 pm when closing hour is but I left a little early.

  • 5/5 Lucrezia T. 1 year ago on Google
The museum is only opened Thursday thru Sunday so be sure to check before arriving. Its collection is modern art and so you will see an excellent collection of different genre from expressionist to representational art We arrived just before 2 and were just in time to join the tour which one of the docents led. The tour was 1 1/4 hr and took us through the highlights of the collection. A lovely way to spend the afternoon.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is a must-visit destination for art lovers. The museum boasts an impressive collection of contemporary and modern art, featuring works by both established and emerging artists. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Additionally, the museum's location in downtown Palm Springs provides a beautiful backdrop for visitors to enjoy as they peruse the galleries. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum for anyone interested in experiencing the vibrant art scene of Southern California.

Well worth the trip!!! I have been a local resident here in the desert since 2001 and have never come to an exhibit at the museum. I happen to see one of the artists speak at an event and it inspired me to take my family to the museum. My kids are between 8 and 13 so going to a museum can be dubious but I was willing to take a chance with the LIGHT and CHANGE exhibit and it paid off. My whole family loved it and we highly recommend it.

  • 5/5 Klau P. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice, small museum, with some some beautiful art, not much variety of art, but it was nice. My favorite was the Mexican art, and exhibitions such as; Lawrence Schiller: The ‘60s, Phillip K. Smith III: LIGHT + CHANGE, Gonzalo Lebrija: History of Suspended Time (A monument for the impossible) this one is located outside along with The Babies and Marylin, its a sight to see. We went on a Thursday from 5-8pm which is free and has a DJ so it was a lot of fun!

Cute tittle museum. It won’t overwhelm you but it will satisfy you. They have beautiful art and always changing their displays. Very well kept. Their bistro was closed though so we didn’t get to enjoy that part of it I don’t remember the dates but they do close it during some months in the year so call before you go. It cost us $28 to enter. $14 per adult My children ages 10 and 12 were free. Go and enjoy some art and get out of the heat :)

21+ night at a museum? Whats's not to love? The drinks are $12, which is not bad for SF. I have never been to a zoo or aquarium after age 12 because it is the cruelest thing in the world to keep animals in captivity like that. But I'm glad to find that the Cal academy of science's living animal exhibit are humane, mainly aimed to preserve endangered species.

This was a great way to end our trip. Not the National Gallery or MOMA, but a fine art museum, in a beautiful building, in a lovely setting, curated with taste. If I were an artist, this is where I’d like my work to be shown. The space was used to great advantage to bring out the best of art displayed, and it allowed for some installations to co-exist with hanging art work. A Chihuly glass sculpture was a bonus.

Super solid given the town size. Great facilities for education—there were student classes and retiree groups. Nice curation and fantastic local funding and support to be able to acquire work of this stature. International cities of 4+ million people don’t have this level of art. And the restaurant is actually better than anything on the strip especially the service.
