Pretty cool they had a 3d printer there and some small prints you can take home. Nice sized museum completely this is definitely 5 star. Staff was nice and helpful and the place was clean.

After living in Athens and being a student at UGA, I finally visited the Museum of Art and was not disappointed. There was an Italian Renaissance exhibit when I went and it was absolutely spectacular. There were people wandering around, but uncrowded. Noise levels were kept to a minimum, which helped keep things peaceful. Signage was posted for all art pieces explaining each piece. The only issue I had was with parking. The machine wasn't accepting cards, and there wasn't enough signal to use the parking app. While this isn't specific to the museum itself - and therefore isn't reflected in my rating- , it does impact the entire visit when trying to connect to a parking app in the museum so you don't get ticketed.

Wonderful museum with gratis entrance. I enjoyed the guided tour. The volunteers and staff are very passionate about art and their museum. I even had the pleasure to speak with a wonderful student named Ray about her work and the psychological significance that modernity has had on artistic expression. A great museum with great people. Definitely recommend, though parking on campus can be a bit interesting.

Enjoyable. Easy parking, low-key and interesting pieces included. Some of the staff seemed to be "followers". Otherwise, great trip for a rainy Sunday. Clean and odor-free. Accessible.

Very nice collection here. There's a photography exhibit right now that's just fantastic. You can listen to many of the photographers speak about the pictures which adds so much to the exhibit, just zap the QR code. The staff was cordial but not helpful, as an example when I had to ask the guy at the front desk which way to go after I checked in and the security staff seemed to be giving me the stink eye as I walked through the photography exhibit.

Went with my 4 kids, ages 8-14. The 8-year old did not enjoy it. The 11-yr old warmed up to the art while we were there. The older 2 enjoyed the abstract art over the historical art. I loved all of it. I particularly loved the historical art and the added information posted that gave me more context about what the art represents. We were there for about 2 hours. We rushed a little through the second part, so I would say plan for 2-1/2-3 hours to fully enjoy the art. It is free to get in, but you have to register for tickets with a time slot. Parking garage was close and free!

Small but very interesting museum that features traveling exhibits. Museum is located on the second level. Now they are featuring an outstanding Gees Bend quilting exhibit by Mary Lee Bendolph. Other exhibits include early American furnishings, ceramics, sculpture and paintings. A Renoir, Casset, some contemporary and folk art are also presented. Parking is limited but seems to be appropriate. Nice gift shop on first level. Great admission.

It’s my first time visiting Athens, and it’s one of the spots I enjoyed most. A combination of sophisticated art and history, I give it a 5 star 😎

There's a lot of different exhibits, mostly paintings. The art is segregated by theme or era. There's lots of abstract, realistic, and different types of art. It's nice for people who like to see art. There were closed areas unfortunately

Pretty good museum, there are lots of things to see here, including an outdoor art garden and a tiny little shop at the lobby. My personal favorites are the Japanese pottery and Russian art exhibits.

It was a great experience to go here. Easy to find. Has visitor parking for museum. My kids got to learn lots of different things. They had fun as well. Wish there was more in the gift shop for kids.

One of the most engaging, least expensive activities in Athens. There's so much to see! The museum has expanded its permanent collections quite a bit in the past few years, and its current exhibition (Italian Renaissance paintings) is stunningly beautiful. So much history, so much soul, so much emotion - all in one modest building! Admission is free, but when you experience all the amazing artwork you'll definitely feel good about leaving a donation.

Fantastic museum! We were there for hours and we were throughly impressed by the diversity of art. It was a day well spent. No admission fee and free parking just steps away from the entrance. We will be visiting this great museum again. A suggestion, were possible, more benches to sit and really study, absorbing the art work. The more time you spend observing the more you appreciate.

Thank you to Raquel for an interesting and informative tour. You are a superb ambassador for the city of Watkinsville. I am excited about learning more about my new town and I appreciate the emphasis by its citizens on preserving its history.

So fun! I loved all the exhibits, so many to appeal to any and all. They had an interactive one where you could weave part of a blanket, I liked if. I spent about an hour and a half here, reading quite a bit. We had to leave because it was closing and I could have probably stayed 20 more min or so but was pretty satisfied. There are 2 sections to the second floor so be sure not to miss out! They have free parking for museum patrons. We made reservations online (oct 2023) and they were free. Great art museum!

Wonderful post modern and abstract paintings! The stained glass lamps were especially beautiful and well crafted, I can't wait until the remaining exhibits are completed.

The Museum tbh I wouldn't so much call it a museum, it's obviously a collection of artwork with university funding. The artwork barely has any notable descriptions on the work itself and weirdly seems to inject bias into a commentary on a piece of art. Didn't care for being told I couldn't have a clear bottle of water with me when I've been to numerous museums from Hawai’i to Italy were fine with it. On top of which the guards seemed entirely unnecessary when even the Museums in Rome didn't have guards in plain view. Then of course they had an exhibit on Imperial Russia which displayed a disclaimer stating they did not support the tzars, but then had photos of alligators shot and children holding taxidermy heads of dogs. Worst Museum I've ever seen

What can I say? This place is so beautiful, but definitely go during the daytime because they have a beautiful stained glass piece, and a couple of pieces outside, although it's mainly all indoors. The employee at the help desk was very kind and helpful, and the security guard wasn't creepy like at some other places where they watch over your shoulder constantly. Extremely clean building, and very beautiful art exhibits. Parking is free, but difficult to find from the main road. We drove right past it, and as we were sitting in the car, we saw several other people miss it and have to turn around too. But that's the only negative thing about this place! So so worth a trip! Perfect for date night too.

This was my first time here. I was pleasantly surprised by the free parking and free admission. I enjoyed the museum collection of drawings by Italian artists as well as the Tiffany exhibition currently on display. It inspired me to investigate some of the artists and their styles. Thank you to the staff and donors.

What a wonderful resource this Art Museum is!! It is such a gift to be able to go in on a donation only basis. I love that it is available to the public. It has many varied exhibits. I spent two hours here but could have easily stayed longer.

This is such a great art museum. Loved it!Much bigger than we thought it would be. Only had a couple of hours so we had to run through the last half before they were closing. We DEFINITELY plan to go back when we can get there earlier in the day. Oh yeah, it's also free. That's not common in my experiences with art museums.

Great art, some very insipiring and moving! I really appreciated that all the art not only had the title/artist but also a little description of the piece. Parking and admission to the museum were free, too.

Well maintained historic building. Many exhibits of antique household items and things that were excavated during renovation. The stairs are a steep challenge if you have bad knees (or short legs) For a tour guide their office is across the street and they are more than happy to come and open everything and give a full tour; just call the number listed on the door. Check out all the historic markers and monuments on the property too

Having spent most of my life visiting museums in the northeast US, this museum is certainly smaller in comparison but no less enjoyable. Nice way to spend a few hours out of the heat or in between meetings/appointments. Appreciate the Covid-19 precautions to visit the museum as well.

Had never heard of Emma Amos but now I know what people mean when they say a painting moved them. Every piece was so thoughtful and thought provoking and left me agape for about an hour while we took our time examining each one. All of the art is amazing and what a gem to be able to see it for donations.

What a treasure for Athens! This museum is amazing! This place not only has fabulous art, but great programs for the entire family and it’s free! We took a delightful tour with Brenda—one of their knowledgeable, charming and energetic docents. She kept over 20 people in the palm of her hand with her interesting and insightful presentation. I can’t wait to come back to Athens and this museum!

Im sure this place is great. My review is based on the access. I didnt realize prior to my trip this museum was part of the UGA campus. I could not figure out where to park or how to access the entrance of the museum. The parking garage and small parking lot appeared to be for staff use only and was super confusing from a first time visitor standpoint. Im sure I was at the right place but I grew frustrated and left.

This is a smallish teaching museum on UGA's campus. They had some very beautiful pieces and well curated collections. I felt like I was in a smaller version of the High Museum. No charge, but they do take donations.

Exhibits are thoughtfully put together. I'm always interested to see the what the new exhibits are going to be. A highlight everyone in our family looks forward to is the Family Day they put on once a month on a Sat. A free craft/ art project is provided for lil artists and the family to work on after exploring the coordinating exhibit and going on their educational hunt to learn more about the artwork or artist. Great way to learn about art and have fun. So thankful we have this resource in Athens!

What an uncomfortable atmosphere! I visited today 1-28-2020 and honestly will not be back. I came alone with my son shortly after they opened. As far as I could tell my son and I were the only ones there. We were followed by two guards (I suppose that's what they were since we were treated like criminals) the entire time. I knew from the website not to bring a bag so my son and I came ready to observe some art and hopefully start an appreciation for art and conversation about things he saw that interested him. Two guards followed us constantly but not from a distance. It was such a blatant hovering that made me very uncomfortable. Instead of enjoying my visit I actually cut my visit short and left because I felt so harassed and uncomfortable. They are not accomplishing anything by driving away visitors. I even tried to smile at one of the guards in an attempt to be polite and she stared me down like a criminal about to perform an art heist. I would NOT recommend this place at all. Does a single woman and child really need two guards following them?! Honestly, just have a sign that says mother's with children NOT welcome!
