The drinks alone deserve 5 stars. Service was great too. My steak showed up cold and raw, but they fixed the problem quickly. 4 drinks, dinner and dessert for $90. Very affordable.

I came tonight for dinner as I had reservations for two. We came in and they asked if we wanted to sit at the bar. We didn’t want to sit at bar so they sat us in the dining area. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the dishes. It was uncomfortable cold in there and it was 40 degrees outside and I don’t think their heat was on. The menu has just a few entrees listed. We both opted for the burger and fries. The burger was good and it tasted really fresh. The burger did not have cheese on it, which is different but still good flavor. We both ordered cocktails and they were good. You can really tell the difference when a mixologist makes your drink. I see why they are known for their cocktails.

I had the BEST time at Planter's House! Their steak was sooo good, and the fries were really amazing. I tried a bunch of their fancy cocktails, and they were all really tasty. Oh, and the owner Ted Kilgore was awesome! He was super nice and kept checking on us to make sure everything was good (which it always was lol). You can tell he really cares about his customers. I'm definitely going back again soon!!!

Came here for drinks only. This place has the most thought out cocktail menu in the city. All their cocktails are intricately built and taste unlike anything I’ve ever had. You can taste the difference here. Their mixologist is an artist. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us maneuver all the choices. Highly recommended!

We stopped here for a round of drinks and a small bite. My partner ordered their old-fashioned, and I had a glass of wine. We shared some olives. The old fashioned was superb and served in a chilled glass. We also really enjoyed the variety of olives we were given. Drinks are pricey, but overall a nice high-end bar.

Had a great meal here - the bbq shrimp po'boy was delicious and my friend loved the duck carbonara. Great cocktails too!

Go for the cocktails. Avoid the food. Everything sounds flavorful on the menu but the execution was about as bland a meal as I’ve had since I stopped eating my boomer parents’ cooking. I brought the cashew chicken home because I think it’s plain enough that my 3 year old will like it. I’ve had better meals at pretty much any brewery in town for half the cost.

Great low key vibes. Stopped by for drinks after dinner. All the drinks were pretty flavorful and strong. I'll definitely be back for to try more of the menu.

Let's start this way - I'm from Chicago (relax, it's not a comparison piece), and there are a good number of extremely good cocktail forward bars that are considered world-class. I visit St. Louis often (family and friends), and I can almost always find an establishment somewhere that will serve me a manhattan instead of a beer. But, when I read about Planter's House back in 2014, I knew I had to go. Of course, 7 years later, I finally get the chance to go to Planter's House. Let me tell ya, it did NOT disappoint, not in the least bit. Sure, COVID rules makes everything feel odd, but, they were so accommodating and prepared that I almost forgot we were still in a pandemic (someone mentioned the 2-hour time limit - look buddy, we're in a pandemic, and these guys are doing the best they can with the limited seating, especially indoors. Instead buying that overpriced glass of wine, you should've had a cocktail....too bad for you. Trust me, the 2-hour time limit was perfect for us, and it's not going to last long). I'm going to start my review of PH by saying that I would put them in the top 5 cocktail bar experiences, ever. EVER. Not to brag (but I will), but, I've had the good fortune of having cocktail experiences at some of the best bars in the country. Planter's House is no different. It felt like home, to be honest. (actual real feel? I thought I might've been in the reincarnated Bar Deville, but in St. Louis....if you know you know). Service was impeccable, and friendly. And, sure, you can order from the menu, but, I asked if the bartender would do a "dealer's choice", and was told, "Absolutely!" First dealer's choice drink I asked for something whiskey based, bitter, on the rocks (or rock as it were), and no simple syrup nor sparkling ingredient. And, the bartender did not disappoint -- they made my drink and included Cynar (it was like we were kindred), and had a large, clear ice cube. Perfectly bitter and satisfying. Next dealer's choice, I asked for a green chartreuse based cocktail, the rest up to the bartender just not sweet. This second cocktail was amazing! Chartreuse, cognac, bitters, and just a splash of simple (it wasn't sweet at all, but very balanced) served up. Again, remembering my first drink, the second wasn't so vastly different and blew my mind away. My friends' drinks were all just as delicious - the winner of the afternoon was the Big O Painkller, a frozen drink that we perfect on a 90+ degree day, wiht just the right amount of booziness. We didn't really have much in the way of their food menu, but we did have the Faux-ritos (housemade Dorito style tortilla chips - wow) and the Curried Chex Mix (even bigger wow). We got to meet Ted Charak, who showed us the "upper" room that should be opening soon, and will be next on my places to visit. Ted and Ted have really created a gem of a spot in St. Louis, land of the King of Beers, and I hope they continue to prosper! Can't wait until we meet again Planter's House.

I went just for one drink last night and that was definitely an excellent choice. I got the Mumbai Jam and it was so good! For dessert I got the pineapple gooey butter cake (don’t know why I got the cake because I don’t like gooey butter cake but it wasn’t bad, I will definitely get the brownie the next time I go!). Overall, I’d go back for sure to try the full range of their cocktails and I can see it being a cute date spot.

Wife’s steak tasted like an old tough cow. My pork steak was amazing! Snacks menu was blah. The drink menu stated extravagant balanced mixes, but the drinks tasted like they had simple overly sweet mixers. Environment was mediocre. Service was fine. I won’t seek out this place.

The drinks were excellent, loved the Mint Julep! The food was slightly overrated. The fries came with a homemade ketchup and aoli, both which were inedible. The aoli had no flavor and the ketchup was just gross. They don't carry regular ketchup, bummer!

Planters house, although not commonly known, is one of the best established in St. Louis. I tried 4 cocktails and 2 entrees during my first visit and I still wanted more.

This place has fantastic cocktails and a delightful atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for date nights. I love both the indoor and the patio.

Delicious cocktails!!! Seriously cannot recommend this place enough for their drinks. The food is good, but it's a limited menu, because their focus is their cocktails. Great patio, too! 2022 Holiday Edit: It's a few years later and I'm still impressed! The holiday pop up bar at Planter's House is excellent! You definitely want to have a reservation to enjoy their special menu and drink selections. They go all out with the decorations and everything is delicious. Do yourself a favor and spring for the uber, because you're going to want to try everything on the drink menu.

What a gem of a cocktail bar! The atmosphere, the cocktails, the food... All amazing. You'd be hard pressed to find a better cocktail bar anywhere. We are lucky to have this here in St. Louis!

We came here yesterday for the first time and I must say that I really loved the atmosphere of this place and how kind their staff are. It appears to me that their menu contains globally inspired dishes including asian cuisine so I was very excited to try their food. I’m not going to say that we were disappointed but we left quite dissatisfied. Here’s why: For snacks, we ordered sambal pickled egg and plantain chips with aji verde. —— sambal pickled eggs are versatile and can be served either hot or cold. In our case, it was served cold which is fine, but it was flavorless. I was expecting a hot and spicy flavor since sambal is usually made out of chili. What we had is simply a cold boiled egg showered with a “sambal sauce” that tasted like plain boiled egg water. I don’t think it was pickled at all and if it was, the lack of flavor was there for sure. —— I was expecting a freshly cooked plantain chips with aji verde but got in a small paper bag instead. The sauce is overwhelmed with cilantro that its hard to taste the rest of what else is in there (like the parmesan, jalapeños, lime juice, etc…). For entree, we ordered the following: —— Mushroom pancit which was made out of sautéed mushrooms, mushroom shoyu, rice noodles, carrot & green bean salad. I grew up in a Filipino household so I know what Pancit tastes like. I get that this dish used a mushroom shoyu instead of a regular soy sauce but I find this rendition of mushroom pancit very bland. It seems like the noodles weren’t stir fried with the vegetables and shoyu because of how pale the noodles were. The noodles were balled-up, the veggies were put on top and it looks like the sauce were just poured in there - it was soupy. And mind you, a soupy pancit is great but the ingredients seemed so separated even though they were all in there together. —— Duck carbonara which was seared duck breast, pancetta, sautéed mushrooms, egg, thyme, house made spaghetti and pecorino romano. Honestly, this was subpar. I get the quality over quantity when it comes to but food for me, this dish didn’t meet both. The flavors were bland and the serving was so small that I don’t think it was worth its price. Overall, the food that we ordered was all flavorless. I couldn’t even taste even a pinch of salt and pepper in there which was sad. On a brighter note, we enjoyed having drinks and hanging out in the balcony. If we were to return here, we’ll most likely just order drinks but will be hesitant to order food again. To be fair, the ambience was great, we enjoyed our drinks, the staff was accommodating and we got our food in a timely manner.

Absolutely love the new patio! Perfect place to sit down with some drinks. Cocktails and food are outrageously good, especially the pork belly

The owners of this establishment could not have made me feel more unwelcomed. We were a party of eight and upon arriving, discovered that they only would allow up to six people, (This is not mentioned on their website) so we requested to be split into two parties of four. The owner reluctantly accommodated. We explained that all we wanted to do is have one cocktail. That’s all. After being seated for about 30 minutes we were coldly reminded that we would need to leave in time for the next party. Again, we were only wanting to stay for one cocktail. Upon leaving, I expressed my displeasure with our experience but it fell on deaf ears. I will never return even though the cocktails were great.

Nice atmosphere with friendly waitstaff. Wife and I came here for a dinner date - each had a couple of drinks, an appetizer, and an entree. The drinks were phenomenal - delicious, interesting, and well balanced. The appetizers were also good, but the entrees were a bit plain in comparison. While trying to do subtle it came off just a touch bland, which is unfortunate because it was all well prepared and the presentation was nice.

9/24/2022: Had reservations for 2 at the bar. Really great cocktails. Ordered the tenderloin and lamb. Both very delicious! FYI for out of town visitors. We were visiting from out of town so we had to take a Lyft to the restaurant from downtown St Louis. It was really difficult to get a ride on a Saturday night, there weren't any drivers out. Took about 30 minutes for a ride.

Could we give a place more stars!!!!! First off, cocktails are out of this world. Handcrafted, fresh, unique, gorgeous, superior ingredients… need I say more! Such a large selection. Food. A small, thoughtful, eclectic menu. A little something for everyone. Creative twists on old classics. Stellar presentation and fantastic delivery of flavor. Lastly, service! Amazing, friendly, helpful, attentive people. What more could you want. A St. Louis must see.

I recently had an opportunity to check out Planter's House thanks to a Happy Hour organized by Steven B, or local Yelp fame. Steven knows cocktails, so if you are ever given a chance, I highly recommend attending one of his happy hours or following him on Yelp. Planter's House is located on the outskirts of Lafayette Square, however it still within walking distance from the heard of the square. Once inside, you will notice a warm, inviting bar with both booth and table seating for larger groups. During my visit, I grabbed a seat at the bar and was immediately greeted with a smile and welcome. My bartender informed me that it was still happy hour and they were offering discounts on various drinks. I started off with an Old Cuban, which was made with Plantation 5yr Rum, Mint, Lime, Angostura Bitters, Bubbles; it was a perfect drink to start off my evening. If you are a fan of good rum, this is your drink. Food is available here, although I didn't get to order anything to eat during my visit. Both service and atmosphere at Planter's House were excellent, prices were reasonable for the quality of the drinks being served. Everything here was made to order, which in some places is a rarity. Overall if you are craving a cocktail, I recommend you check out Planter's House.
