I used to shop here very frequently. I'm still disappointed that thus store put Central City Dollar Store out if business when they opened leaving one more slot open in the dying downtown district in Central City, Iowa. With that being said, necessity won shopping in town. Mike, the clerk was always there, always knew where every item was, always courteous, and fast. For some reason???? Mike is no longer working there???? The faces keep changing constantly, your lucky if you can get a clerk to help you, and the lines and wait time in line are legenthy. What a loss! I avoid this store nowadays. And if you miss The Master Clerk Mike, you can find him at Lefty's. Really miss the customer service since Mike us no longer there.

All the people who work here are super friendly. They have a good variety of most of the essentials. The prices are fair and it seems like you always get a coupon on the back of your receipt which makes it even better. I do wish they would open a little more before school starts in case anyone wanted anything before they go to class.

I love Dollar General In Central City. I had one bad experience one night. Still had 4 minutes till 10. I pull up get out of my car go to walk in and the kid working lock the door in my face. There was still three minutes left where they could let me purchase what I needed to at the register and then lock the doors. The first bad experience I've had at that store. They need to keep their doors open until 10. It is posted they're open until 10 p.m. that is when the door is need to lock.

Its a cost abit more to go to dollar general, but for a quick stop to pick up something its worth it. Plus it does stay open longer than the grocery store that we have in our town. The down side is thats its somewhat confusing when you go to get some things because they have the same thing in 2 or 3 different spots and different priced. And it looks like it could use a good cleaning and straightening up. Otherwise its a good place. You pay for the convenience.

Friendly quick service. Great place to visit while camping. Usually have every thing we need for food and extras when we forgot things at home.

Clean; customer service is wonderful: friendly, smiling, and helpful. While I was there one day and a customer used a cuss word at the front of the store. The customer said it loud enough I heard them (quite clear and loud) while at the back of the store. One of the employees approached the customer and politely asked the customer to leave their swearing for outside of the store property. I LIKED THIS, GOOD JOB, there is no reason for customers to have a foul mouth in any public place, stores or anywhere else. IMHO, it takes more thought, common sense, demonstrates more care for those around you, and shows you've been raised to have manners when one uses clean language, AND you're thought of better for doing so. Back to the store: It's well stocked - not overly stocked = the store doesn't have products falling off the shelves, nor do they have it laying on the floors waiting to be shelved, nor sitting there because there's no room on the shelves. So, customers can move through the store aisles without banging into boxes, or dragging products off the shelves and around the floors. Carts are clean, roll without pulling to one side or another, and they don't make appalling noises! All of which, to me, add up to having exceptional customer service.

Just wanted to let you know of our very disappointing trip to your store in Central City, Ia. While camping nearby I realized we ran out of dog food. A quick run into town to the dollar general, I was very happy to see you carried the brand my dogs eat. Even better, was the sign for the 3.5 lb bag of beniful that said buy one get one free with the DG app. I took the 2 bags of dog food and my phone to the counter trying to find the matching coupon. The cashier even got out her phone and tried finding it on her app, (she ended up being the only good thing about my trip). When neither of us could find the coupon. She walked with me back to the dog food to check the sign. Right brand, correct dates. Everything was adding up except we couldn't find it on the app. So the cashier call over Renee the manager, who never tried to find the coupon simply scanned the dog food and said "nope. Must be a glitch in the app" Naturally I assumed she would honor the sign posted and I would be getting two bags for the price of one. Imagine my surprise when Renee looked at me and said "So are you going to pay for both or did you just want one?" Are you kidding? My mouth literally dropped open. As a manager in the customer service industry. I KNOW there is ALWAYS something that can be done to make customer happy. We were offered nothing. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. The cashier who I wish was wearing a nametag so I could tell you how nice she was apologized all over the place when the manager walked away. Maybe that girl should be in charge and Renee should stay in the back, and never interact with customers. Very disappointing!
