A Budapest expat here! I have been to low and high scale restaurants in Budapest for over 2 years. The quality of service this place offers is like a fine-dining restaurant quality. This place boosts up the service quality of Hungarian standards! The crew is very polite, attentive and informative. I felt incredibly welcome here and that is a rather rare experience you can have in BP restaurants. The crew honestly accepted to change ingredients of a meal due to a dietary need, they were quite open and suggestive. Let me talk about the food. Very rich variety of options for meat lovers as well as for vegeterians/vegans. The number of main dishes they offer was so high that I was skeptical about the quality that can maintain. Most of the time, the richer the menu is the lower the quality. Yet, it is not the case here! I loved the food; clean and high quality spices. They also offer Indian wine; sula! The portions are very filling so that I couldn't have space for desert. MahaRana was an exceptional experience for me in my history of Budapest. I hope they will keep this successful service and taste. dhanyavaad!

The best Indian restaurant I have visited so far in Budapest. The food is delicious, fresh, all the employees are kind and cheerful. Always a good choice for lunch.

The waitress was quite unaccomdating and they have very few options available in the Menu. We are vegetarian, ordered a couple of items but not happy with any one of them, only green salad was good😀. Not recommended at all. Even they don't have basic common Indian dishes and takes too much time for the food as they are understaffed.

Personally my favorite family-run Indian restaurant in Budapest. The staff is very friendly and the dishes never disappoint. The garlic naan is phenomenal.

Maharana Indian Ayurvedic Restaurant serves meals afresh 😋. The restaurant has no Photography/Video shooting policy, hence we did not click photos inside the Restaurant. The ambience was nice and interesting. We had to wait for around 30 minutes in the restaurant before the food was served (we were informed well in advance). All of their dishes are spiced according to Local standards. The food was very Tasty. We had Vegetable Jalfrezi, Palak Paneer, Butter Nan, Alu Parata and Mango 🥭 Lassi. 👍 👍 👍. Something to 📝 The Curry portion is almost Double when compared with other Indian restaurants in Budapest, also 😳 Parathas and Naans. Hence, we got for most of our food Packed 😀😋#maharanaindianrestaurant #indianrecipes #indianrestaurant #budapesthungary #indianfood #goodfood

The decor is beautiful and that’s the only positive I can mention about this restaurant. This is not good or authentic Indian food at all. The portions were very small and the prices far too expensive. The waitress asked specifically if I wanted it “Indian spicy” and it was anything but. No flavour and no salt either.

Very bad food. Not worth for Money. I do not say this is Indian delicacy at all.

The food was absolutely delicious and the interior design of this restaurant makes the visit a special experience. In addition the service couldn't be friendlier and gave us great recommendations. This place is really recommended. The garlic naan is amazing.

We encountered this place while were on our search for some indian food after a whole day eating some good Hungarian food. The ambience is nice, looks like an underground cave and the owner is quite nice and welcoming. I ordered a mutton curry dish which came with vegetables in the curry. On looking at the dish, i started having second thoughts, but when i starting eating the dish, i must say that it was good. Generally Mutton curries don't have vegetables in them, but this was different and tasty. This difference maybe due to the Ayurveda theme of the restaurant, but as i am not an expert in Ayurveda, i wont comment. The breads/naans were good and the overall service was good. Overall a good experience, will visit only if i am craving for some decent indian food in my next visit to Budapest.

The best Indian food I have ever had! I asked for a suggestion of a new lamb dish and it was incredible. The garlic naan was bigger than my head and delicious. The gulab jamun was the perfect dessert afterwards. My only regret is not having discovered this place earlier as I am leaving tomorrow. When I come back to Budapest, I will definitely come see my friends at MahaRana again!

We were lucky in that there was only one other table occupied when we arrived. So the service was good, but I guess it slowed down later as there was only one waiter that I could see. The food was very good although for British tastes "spicy" is only mild. Value for money was quite good. The surroundings were not special and certainly not top class, but for me the food is the most important. 😋 Unfortunately they had no Samosas- BIG disappointment.

Im from Pakistan, and extremely picky about desi food. This place rocked my socks off. Seriously. It might just be the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and that’s 10 cities I’ve lived in worth of comparison. We were lucky and just slid in on our first day in Budapest since we were craving desi food. Get the biryani. Get their recommendations. It’s phenomenal. Portions are smaller which I actually preferred since we could try different things since pricing is very reasonable. Hospitality was also amazing, our hostess took really good care of us and calibrated spice level to what both of us wanted and they nailed it. If I could give 7 stars out of 5 I would!

So good! Distinctive flavors, interesting menu, cozy atmosphere, and unusually warm, friendly staff. Both I (vegetarian) and my friend (carnivore) were very impressed, and Budapest has many good Indian restaurants!

Dont really understand why the other indian restaurant was so full today and this one empty. Food is well made. Ambiente is great. And service is friendly. Nothing to complain.

If any of you are looking for absolutely delicious Indian food I can't but recommend MahaRana restaurant! I had an amazing experience with them. Kind, generous, flexible and super accomodating. I came to them with a rather unorthodox idea, I wanted a platter with different dishes, in a sharing style and they performed beautifully. Pictured was butter chicken, vegetable biryani, chicken masala and mixed pakora. Sorry for the bad picture quality, we were too hungry (those who are fasting the month of Ramadan can relate 😅) to take a proper one, there was also dipping sauces and freshly made naan bread. Not to forget they kindly added sweets as a gift 🎁 Absolutely wonderful owners, thank you, we enjoyed every bite of it!

What a great restaurant! It was already late in the evening and though the regular closing hours were only half an hour afar, we were still allowed to enter and get something hot to eat. The food was very good and they use alot of different spices. I can definitely recommend it. Thank you again for giving us such a nice welcome and time.

If you want to have an improper impression of Indian food, you can visit the restaurant. The biriani was floating in oil, and the oil was overflowing from the pot. The taste of the biriani was not even close to the real biriani. The atmosphere was suffocating as there was no window for ventilation. Completely waste of money.

Authentic dishes in a small family run restaurant near Vigszinhaz and Nyugati railway station. I have had a couple of Indian food experience before, and I am quite picky when it comes to my food, but I can say with confidence that the food here was probably THE BEST have ever had! Spices are important but the heart of the cook too! Thank you for the apetizer gift, it was really thoughtful.

Great restaurant with great cuisine and very kind service. They are a bit lacking on staff, so calculate with a calm 90 minuteish mealtime at least. Also, the restaurant isn't too big (roughly six 4 person tables plus a vip room) so it may be a best practice to book a table in advance.

Located downstairs - staff friendly - my oder of Kaida Paneer and a butter nan was disappointing. Didn’t taste anything like I had in India as it wasn’t at all spicy - but they may have tamped down the spices - the Butter Nan was huge - extremely hot but a little chewy. The Mint Lemonade was very good. I would try again maybe order something different as they have a huge menu. Service was great!

Go for the naan basket as you'll get to taste all of their breads. It was ample for our large group. The portions of curry are enough for a single person. :) Please check with them about the spiciness level. They are kind and meet your expectations. Also booking ahead of time is not a bad idea.

Beautiful dinner, the owner was lovely and gave us many suggestions which we loved. Good food and good prices. Will surely come back again. P.s. if you go make sure to order the mango lassi and the dessert!

While in Budapest for a few days, we ate here ...twice! We dined in and did take out. So delicious and authentic....not to mention, reasonable! The kindness and warmth was also very welcomed by the owners...they remembered I have special dietary needs! Give yourself a treat and go eat here if you are in Budapest!!!
