I was incredibly moved by my experience meeting some of the wonderful folks at Cafe de las Sonrisas, and was happy to find that I could converse using ASL even though Nicaraguan sign language is its own unique language. There is enough overlap that myself and Irma could easily understand one another. The atmosphere is very welcoming and you can see the love and care put into this environment. I definitely recommend checking it out and buying a few items to support the wonderful cause of inclusive employment opportunities!

I had a delicious lunch at Smile cafe. The toastie and burrito were both very tasty, and the service was fast and staff very friendly. It was very good value for money. We didn’t know when coming here that the staff are deaf and it was a really lovely surprise. I even learnt a few words in sign language!
