We also had the chance of meeting el "Tío" of these kids a charming and friendly Spaniard/Nicaraguan that came on vacation but ended up staying forever in Nicaragua. He truly seems to love these kids and has several other social projects aiming to improve his adopted homeland.

I was incredibly moved by my experience meeting some of the wonderful folks at Cafe de las Sonrisas, and was happy to find that I could converse using ASL even though Nicaraguan sign language is its own unique language. There is enough overlap that myself and Irma could easily understand one another. The atmosphere is very welcoming and you can see the love and care put into this environment. I definitely recommend checking it out and buying a few items to support the wonderful cause of inclusive employment opportunities!
