The outside of this cathedral is stunning. It's simply enormous and the stone used in its construction is beautiful. The inside, however, is less than awe inspiring. The interior of the dome is highly decorated, but there are few other decorative elements to enjoy inside the walls. I would recommend visitors take their time walking around the building, but skip the long line to go inside.

Amazing building. It's so huge and incredible. Very nice historic cathedral. I haven't never before seen church like this. Very powerful place. I strongly recommend visits it. Only the are around 145 stairs steps to go to the top of tower.

This was the most impressive building I had ever been inside of. The architecture is immaculate. The interior painting is beyond elegant. The view from the top is beautiful on a clear day. Take the guided terrace tour for look at some of the less seen sections of the Cathedral. I would visit this building every time I visit Florence.

Amazing building. Italy’s cathedrals never cease to impress me. Every time I go near it I am in awe of its beauty. I would recommend to buy a ticket to climb the tower. With the tower, you’ll still get the view of the Duomo, but perhaps without the day long queues. The morning time is much easier in terms of crowds than evening times. Even at midnight the crowd never stops. Definitely go here when you get the chance!

You should visit the dome and the tower! Although you have to book a time slot with the ticket and also have to wait in a long line, it deserves. The tower has a narrower staircase, so I recommend you visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Just magnificent! Stunningly beautiful! Just go. It is advertised as free and you can enter the primary cathedral for free, but to climb the dome and other things like the museum is 30 euros per person and you get an assigned time slot so plan ahead. The view of the city is worth the climb so plan ahead.

One of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I have ever seen! Amazing really! It’s absolutely stunning! You cannot come to Florence and not visit this! The outside structure it’s gorgeous and has an interesting history. To contrast, the inside is very simple, but still beautiful! Loved it!

Absolutely stunning. No pictures can do it justice really. You can climb to the top of the dome and the views are stunning of Florence. Climbing to the top though is not for those who have anxiety in small places as it's one way and people with kids will stop the whole group. The inner dome has some very beautiful paintings in it and you're so far up from the floor it's a little dizzying.

Very nice cathedral, the exterior is very beautiful and nicely lit up at night. Inside is okay, the ceiling is very nicely decorated and you can also get a ticket to visit the roof top and the museum as well. You can also check out the chapel, I enjoyed my time here and would recommend checking it out when in Florence.

Going to the top of the cathedral was an awesome experience. On the climb up you get a up close view of the painted ceiling which is amazing in itself. I wish they didn’t rush you through that part as I could have spent more than a few minutes staring at it. The view from the top though was amazing and on such and beautiful day it felt as if I could see the entire city. Definitely a must do experience if you are spending some time here. The outside of the cathedral as well deserves some time walking around or sitting at a restaurant to ensure you can really appreciate the art that it is.

Such little time to enjoy the view I wanted more time The tour to the top of the Florence Cathedral, specifically to the dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, offers a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors. Climbing to the top provides panoramic views of Florence and its surrounding landscape, rewarding tourists with breathtaking vistas of the cityscape and the Tuscan countryside. However, it's essential to note that the ascent can be physically demanding, involving a steep climb of approximately 463 steps. Visitors should be prepared for narrow passages and limited space, especially as they near the top of the dome. Overall, while the tour requires some effort, the stunning views and the opportunity to appreciate the architectural genius of Brunelleschi make it well worth the journey.

It's beautiful and magnificent from the outside. You can go in for free. You do not need to buy any ticket for the main cathedral. Inside is good. The dome from the inside is superb. The overall place js really nice but crowded most of the times.

The Florence Cathedral is absolutely incredible! The first time I saw it, I was literally blown away by its beauty. The facade adorned with colorful marble, the intricate details of sculptures and reliefs, and of course, the iconic dome towering over the city's skyline, it's all just stunning. The interior is equally impressive, with its vast spaces, magnificent frescoes, and serene spiritual atmosphere. It's truly a must-see for anyone visiting Florence, and it's definitely worth the visit.

It’s unbelievably remarkable. If you are able to visit this place early in the day, please do so. We got there around 3pm and it was too late to get inside. There are many lines outside the building on each side of the building. Different lines for different entrance. Some part of the building for free and some are not. Stay for a while until you can hear the bells rang. It’s a truly unique experience.

A stop in your tracks kind of beauty - I rounded a corner and was instantly facing this magnificent cathedral - stood in awe for ages. The scale alone is hard to comprehend Sit outside the local bar and wait for nightfall as it’s equally beautiful lit up at night

A breathtaking building with a lot of history behind it. There are a lot of detailed figures sculpted onto the parts of the buildings and beautiful paintings in different areas of the structure. The colour combination is so well done that you cannot get your eyes of it. The more you look at it, the more details you notice. Truly incredible

It gives me goosebumps to think about the history of this place!!! Amazing! After six centuries, this church looks spectacular. The Duomo is, in my opinion, the landmark, the banner achievement which determined that the Renaissance brought light to the darkness of the middle ages. What an awesome display of power and worship. It will always be one of my favourites ❤ places in the world.

Amazing masterpiece. Must see from all angels. I'm recommending buying tickets online way in advance, especially in high season. Don't forget to leave your backpacks in a luggage storage behind the cathedral. They are not allowed inside, and it's free with valid tickets. If you have a ticket, you don't have to stay in that huge queue to enter Cathedral. You enter from a side to enter Baptistery, and then you can stay inside the Cathedral and enjoy it as much as you want.

Florence was home to the Medici, one of European history's most important noble families. Lorenzo de' Medici was considered a political and cultural mastermind of Italy. Florence is known as the "cradle of the Renaissance" (la culla del Rinascimento) for its monuments, churches, and buildings. The best-known site of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as The Duomo, whose dome was built by Filippo Brunelleschi. The nearby Campanile (partly designed by Giotto) and the Baptistery buildings are also highlights. The dome, 600 years after its completion, is still the largest dome built in brick and mortar in the world. In 1982, the historic centre of Florence (Italian: centro storico di Firenze) was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

Beautiful cathedral! Definitely worth waiting in line to visit. Unfortunately tickets to visit the dome were sold out for the days we were there but luckily you can get a pretty good look at it from the ground floor. It is free to enter.

Religious or not, this building and its incredible history are just spectacular to behold. The square around it is usually quite busy during the day, but at sunset and into the night, it’s a lot quieter, lit up beautifully, and you can enjoy a drink or two in one of the little restaurants or cafés close by and look up to appreciate the Duomo in all its glory. The jewel in Florence’s crown for sure. A must see.

Beautiful place to visit. High up on a picturesque hill sits this church. Actually climbed the stairs to reach the top, before i realized there was a driveway on the other side. Totally worth the views though. They do have public bathrooms inside as well as an elevator that takes you all the way to the top. Would recommend.

Duomo is a must-see for anyone visiting Florence. It is a truly awe-inspiring building, and it is a testament to the skill and ingenuity of the Renaissance architects. The massive dome is simply breathtaking. It is hard to believe that it was built over 600 years ago. The intricate carvings and sculptures on the exterior of the cathedral are amazing. There is so much detail to see, and it is all so beautifully done. The stained glass windows in the interior of the cathedral are also stunning. They cast a warm and inviting light on the space, and they create a truly magical atmosphere. The overall design of the cathedral is simply awe-inspiring. It is a truly unique and innovative building that is unlike anything else I have ever seen.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Florence. We wandered around the outside of the building, but the line-up was too long, so we did not go in. It is free to enter. The outside is magnificent. The artwork and decoration of the facade is intricate and brilliant.

(Translated by Google) The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, commonly known as the Duomo of Florence, is the main Florentine church, symbol of the city and one of the most famous in Italy; when it was completed, in the fifteenth century, it was the largest church in the world, while today it is considered the third in Europe after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul in London. It stands on the foundations of the ancient cathedral of Florence, the church of Santa Reparata, in a point of the city that has hosted religious buildings since Roman times. Essa sorge sulle fondamenta dell'antica cattedrale di Firenze, la chiesa di Santa Reparata, in un punto della città che ha ospitato edifici di culto sin dall'epoca romana.

We landed in Florence on 01/01 so we were not able to enter the cathedral during our stay but the outside was grand enough! surrounded by shops, eateries, and artists, this is a great square and cathedral to visit while in Florence. I wish we could have went inside though!

Amazing, impressive and beautiful Medieval church! To think about the process and the many many years it took to build this church with the technology they had then, it’s just mind blowing. This is by far the most beautiful church in Italy and maybe the world! A must visit if you are in Florence and have to go inside.

Absolutely beautiful cathedral. The actual cathedral itself was closed when we visited at the end of February, but we were still able to climb both the Dome and the Bell Tower. They are quite sticklers for entering exactly when your reservation time is, so make sure to not enter early or you will be turned away. We thought both the Dome and the Bell Tower were worth climbing. It does get a little tight in the Dome, but you're rewarded with a wonderful view of the interior of the Dome. For a more complete view of Florence, the Bell Tower is where it's at as you get to see the Dome. I would suggest climbing the Dome first as it closes earlier, then doing the Bell Tower during sunset, as you get a wonderful view of the city.

One of the most beautiful and imposing cathedrals I have ever seen. The architecture, scheme of colours, and the size of the Duomo is so impressive. The structure can be seen from several streets and vantage points around the city of Florence but when you are close-up, the building looks enormous. It is a busy attraction all year round as the city attracts fairly good weather.

During my recent visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, I found the architecture to be awe-inspiring, showcasing intricate details and historical significance. The interior is vast and impressive, with beautiful artwork and stained glass windows. However, the crowds can be overwhelming, affecting the overall experience. Additionally, the limited accessibility for visitors with mobility issues may pose a challenge. Overall, it's a remarkable historical site, but the visitor experience could be enhanced with better crowd management and improved accessibility.

Even if you visit off season and get there early, be prepared for a 30 minute queue at the least. There are different areas to visit (each with its own line), but the only free one is into the main part of the chapel. Fortunately this is the one where you get the see the underside of the dome, which is definitely a must! Unfortunately, despite signs asking for silence, it is a very crowded and noisy space.

  • 4/5 Kat J. 3 years ago on Google
Very beautiful from the outside but inside is pretty basic. Did the cathedral climb and safe to say it’s not for someone who is claustrophobic or doesn’t like heights. LOTS of spiral stone stairs so bad if you have vertigo or just overall can’t handle small spaces. Once at top it was a beautiful view but still not for the faint.

Absolutely amazing piece of architecture! Go to the top of the dome if you can. Don't bother going inside the cathedral of there's a big queue. This has to be the most underwhelming church interior in the region. Every other church in the city has vastly superior interiors.

We came back to the cathedral every night of our five night stay just to marvel at the architecture. It is truly beautiful, especially at sunset. I agree with the other commenters that the only thing to keep is mind is the popularity of the area for people selling items on the street. Some of these are beautiful artists which I appreciated, but others are selling various toys/jewelry and kill the vibe a little bit. I would still recommend you at least stop by once, but keep in mind the crowds.

Highly recommended ! We were left speechless as we saw this breathtaking monument. Don't forget to walk the place and see the building from all sides.

Lot of history in Florence. The cradle of the Western European Renaissance. If you ever visit it, use some guide services in order to explain you the whole story for Firenze, the complex story of the powerful Medici family.

Wow, this is amazing! We didn't go inside as the queue was really quite long. Just walking around the outside was breathtaking!

Florence cathedral or Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. It was built in 1296 AD in the beautiful traditional Gothic style, 114 meters high. The dome was designed by architect Filippo Brunelleschi, which is the central church in Florence and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Which made it one of the most important tourist places in Italy

Unique style. The cathedral dome is one of the largest in the world. It's just few mins away from the central station. You can visit Florence and Pisa in single day if you plan well.

The line was long but moved quickly. Security has to check all bags and vaccination cards. It's free to go inside. You can light a candle with a small donation.

Wow, was blown away by this place. The intricacy and level of detail that has gone into the façade, from the statues to the tiling patterns, was stunning. I had to laugh when I first cast eyes on it. Then spent ages just marvelling at it, and never failed to be impressed by it each time I walked past during my stay in Florence. Never thought that anything could come close to the brilliance of the Alhambra palace, but this did so and more.

Truly beautiful, breathtaking and spectacular. Unfortunately, I was there on a warm and sunny Sunday in May, and the amount of tourists and people around the Dome just made me feel overwhelmed. It could be much more fun with less people around, but since it's a very significant tourist and historical attraction, dozens wish to visit and see it, therefore I recommend visiting the place at any "odd and unusual" time including very early or very late. However, if you wish to enter (general admission is free), you should visit during the opening times and be well-prepared for long queues. Regardless of this minor inconvenience, I still can only recommend it.

It is an incredible building to see. The craftsmanship that has gone into building this must have been incredible. Ok, so I did not ho inside because I did not feel that the huge wait would be worth it. Instead just walked around it and admired the gorgeous details on the building. And those are incredible.

The cathedral was very spiritual and serene. The moment I stepped in I felt peace and calm inside. I amazed by the magnificent architecture and painting in the cathedral. The ceiling was gorgeous and the carving were spectacular. This is a beautiful place and a must visit when visiting Florence.

Beautiful doesn't do it justice. An amazing piece of architecture. The view atop is amazing so please book the tour that takes you up there. The lines to get inside are long and take a lot of time to enter so I was not patient. I regret it so I advise to get a guided tour to avoid the lines to get inside.

The 400 steps were worth it! Warning, you cannot bring a back pack or a purse, but you can bring a Fanny pack. The view was beautiful and breathe taking. While it was quite the trek (cue heavy breathing) getting up the stairs to see the view and roof of the church are moments that I will never forget.

A very nice one. It's free to visit but if you want to climb up to its dome and see the city from the top you must get a ticket. If you visit Florence you must definitely visit it during day time and it around the Duomo square at evening time.

Other than the long queue,( buy tickets in advance) this is one of the most impressive building s I have been in. Fantastic interior and the sights from the top over the city are out of this world. The steps up are not for the faint hearted, but you can stop about half way and still go around the outside and get a good view.

So awesome to see in person from the inside and outside. It gets pretty crowded, so make sure to get advances tickets. And if you go with a guide or tour, you’ll get right in. So much to see and such beautiful architecture. A must see in Florence!

Amazing structure. Couple of things to remember...ladies should be dressed appropriately so no short skirts and covered arms, no backpacks. Backpacks can be put away next to the cathedral for free. Buy a ticket for multiple attractions so you do t have to stay in the super long line. Bell tower is really nice to see if you can't get a ticket for the dome.

Booking tickets in advance would help tremendously. We didn’t go for the dome nor the bell tower. The ambulances downstairs speak for itself. Inside the cathedral, it’s quiet and sacred, tho I’m not a Christian, I could still feel the tranquility that this cathedral could bring. The archeological site downstairs were pretty interesting as well. But keep this in mind, it’s pretty hot in there since it’s tiny but packed.

The beauty can be seen from the outside. I don’t personally think it’s worth waiting 1.5 hrs to see the cathedral only (free entrance). We didn’t pay to see the top of the tower, so can’t speak to that. There are other just as beautiful churches around the city (inside).
