Best place for Backpackers in Kozhikode! An amazing group of people run this place and it has much more to offer than just a bed in a dormitory. Antique artefacts, age old structure, art exhibitions and music shows. Moreover the dorma are clean and just perfect for accommodation. The two loft beds are even better. There's no private parking space available and vehicles need to be parked on the road outside. Nevertheless, bikes can be taken into the inner courtyard and parked there. Vegetarian food options and beach are at a stone's throw from the hostel. Summing up, don't think twice if planning to explore Kozhikode and around. Go for it!

Before I even entered this place I knew I was going to be in love with it!! Right from the mustard wall outside the aesthetic, old wooden windows on the first floor, a piece of art door, and their beautiful name/logo on the wall made it for me. After that I was just jumping with joy and drooling over the beauty, aesthetics of every nook and corner!! Just couldn't contain myself from clicking photos. Got this place through couch surfing and the hosts are great! Extremely warm, accommodating, and a comfortable space. Fills you with positivity and happy energy. Will for sure return here and highly recommend to any back packers looking for a shared hostel stay.

A lovely open free space for anyone with an open mind! The property is a heritage piece with so much charm! It is close to the beach and offers a calm and peaceful stay and workspace at the same time. Also the location is wonderful and offers a lot of fun places around!

THE PLACE IS NOT FOR A FAMILY. The room's floor was dusty seemed as if had not been mopped for sometime. The bed was small for two people. There was just one tubelight in the room. The extra bed offered to my son who was sleeping on the floor was uncomfortable. I booked the place looking at the star ratings... Very bad choice.

I recently stayed at Design Ashram in Kozhikode, Kerala, and I had a great experience. The vibes at Design Ashram are very chill and relaxed. It's a great place to meet other travelers and creatives. The location is also fantastic. It's right in the heart of Kuttichira, which is a vibrant and happening neighborhood. There are lots of shops, restaurants, and cafes within walking distance. I stayed in the dorm, which was clean and comfortable. The beds were bunk beds, which is not ideal for everyone, but it was fine for me. The dorm also has a shared bathroom, which was kept clean and tidy. Design Ashram is very affordable. I paid 700 rupees per night for a dorm bed, which is a great deal for the location and the facilities. Overall, I would highly recommend Design Ashram to anyone looking for a chill and affordable place to stay in Kozhikode. The vibes are great, the location is fab, it's a dorm with bunk beds, and it's affordable. Here are some additional details about my stay at Design Ashram: * The staff was friendly and helpful.❣️ * There is a courtyard with a peepal tree, which is a great place to relax and people-watch.✨ * I would definitely stay at Design Ashram again! πŸ’•

I recently visited Kozhikode with my friends and we stayed there in design ashram which had dormitory rooms. We got the upper loft whole with us and it was really great. The washrooms are very clean and neat. The beaches were also within walkable distance. The overall stay was really new and amazing 🀩 I would totally recommend it if you are visiting with your friends.

Beautiful cafes around, food joints nearby are to die for!

They have an authentic touch and simple looking place. More than a dorm it looks like a hostel room. If you are lucky to get the bed on top just below roof, then it’s best. Only drawback I felt is, it’s cost. If it was bit cheap, then it justifies for options they give.

Beautiful space to stay at in Kozhikode. Right next to the beach, hip cafes and a short walk to the unique mosques of the city. Very helpful staff made our stay comfortable and easy. Wish we would have stayed longer!

We called the property like 4 hours before we arrived and informed that we will be late since we had covered more than 600kms. Even after that, when we arrived at 12am, the caretaker was very rude to us and didn't even let us get freshened up before going out for dinner. He said, put your luggage, go out and that we should not be coming at that time. he was in a hurry to close the door and go back to sleep. There are couple of families staying there. The manager was cordial to us and said sorry If you are a backpacker or frequent traveller, then please don't go here expecting vibes of kochi, varkala etc. It's just like a ladies hostel.

We had the luck to get the one and only private room there. It’s a beautiful place to stay and calm down in the city. The banyan tree in the backyard gives it a very special character. We could even use the kitchen for making tea and breakfast. Thank you for the hospitality.

Beautiful place. The place is unique and feels like it has stories to tell. The ambiance is calm and fulfilling. Haven't stayed there but have attended programmes. They encourage programmes related to art, music, culture, etc. Also a great place to just hang out.

It is a very nice place to stay and Mr Brijesh , who manages it treats guests with warm heart. The location is also such that, if you are looking for an alternative for a work-from-home, please go for this. The co-working area will be good for your official works and for meetings, you wont need an artificial background as the location itself suits better. There are plenty of veg and non-veg options available nearby.

I slept in the Design Ashram's dorm for six nights. A beautiful old house with a courtyard and an AC dormitory with 12 beds. Everything was clean and very well maintained. Before I arrived, I received valuable tips from the manager via WhatsApp. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There are many restaurants and cafes in the area and the beach is only 5 minutes away. Thank you and gladly again 😊

So I booked a dorm bed at a place called as Design Ashram without reading much about it on my solo trip to Calicut. When I actually reached the place, I realised it's no ordinary backpacker hostel, it's a community place for artists to gather, showcase and hone their skills. It's a very rustic property with wooden infrastructure and you will definitely feel like living in a art school. They have a big dorm room and a common kitchen. The beach is at a walkable distance and it is situated on the very picturesque and instgramable Gujarati Street. You have so many restaurants also nearby. You'll find many people doing photoshoots both outside and sometimes inside the property as well. Overall, a good place and definitely recommended.

They have converted a very old building into a hostel, which is good, and they organize music events, which feels nice. Dorms are fine, but the AC only runs from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning, no matter how hot it is. Everything else is good 😊

If you need a place to crash for a night or two, this artistically designed place is perfectly located at a stone's throw away from the beach ⛱️. The toilets are clean and there is a kitchen if you want to cook something quick and a nice coworking space as well.

Probably the best budget stay in the city. Also has other accomodation options, conference room and an open courtyard everyone takes selfies in . The kitchen and refrigerator work properly. Staff are devoted and respectful.

It was my first experience as a traveller after deciding to stay in design ashram a place very unique, quirky and creative. Who would have imagined that a dormitory would be the perfect place to unwind, relax and be yourself. The experience was one of a kind as you take a stroll around the localities. Gujarati Street, Halwa bazaar, Bazaar road, SM Street all steeped in rich history, culture and art. The location of D A was perfect as it gave me walkable access to explore the best of Calicut including beaches. The banayan tree inside D A cannot go without mention as that's what you see first as you enter and it stays with you intimately throughout your stay. The staff, who mainly was one the caretaker Mohan chettan and the manager Mr Sherbas makes you feel comfortable instantly. Mohan chettan lives in D A and takes care of the inmates like family. He is a true musician as he plays the violin passionately and if you are lucky may get a private performance. All in all a very unique experience.

Design Ashram is undoubtedly one of the best backpackers’ hostels around. Clean and cozy with wonderful staff who are always there to help. It is set in a 100 year old house and is right next to the beach. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes just a minute’s walk away, and the setting is very serene and peaceful. The highlight of the property is its modern co-working space which makes Design Ashram apt for those working on the move or looking to take a break from the usual work space. Will definitely keep visiting!

I stayed at Design Ashram for a week. Was working remotely from there. It was amazing and pleasant stay. I took private room. It was clean and big enough. Good vibe. Colorful. Location is amazing. Lot of food options nearby. Parking is available on street. Mr Sherbaz and Mr Mohan are very friendly and helpful. They helped me with food and sight seeing options. Appreciate it! I recommend it to everyone.

For a solo traveller, this is a comfy spot. Bathroom being shared has its limitations, but apart from that, I'd highly recommend this. Pretty safe for solo female travellers too.

My trip was all about architectural visit at wayanad which is nearby kozhikode. When I got this place through couchsurfing, my first priority was to stay at this place beyond doing a architectural visit at wayanad. Iam an architectural student and I loved this place since it was totally a place beautiful traditional Kerala architecture. The location of this place is very near to the beach and we can find many eateries near by. The staffs mohan sir, sherbas sir were totally great in hospitality. Would love to visit this place again when they have events in their beautiful courtyard.
